Newbie confused about setting up E3200

Bought E3200 today. Guy in store told me not to use install CD. He said just hook it up and my computer will direct me on what to do. I would like to know if he is right. Why would I not use the CD? I know almost nothing about routers and want the installation to go well. They fellow said that the install CD would just mess me up. I do know how the router should be wired up I just don't know anything about the rest of it. Need the true skinny!

Well if you know how to make the physical connectivity between modem, router and computer then you can install the CD for the router E3200 with any problem. Basically the CD consist of Cisco Connect software which comes with the Linksys Wireless-N (E-Series) Routers and lets you manage your network easier. For the setup process, you need to perform the following:
i. Verify that there is an active Internet connection between the computer and modem
ii. Set up the router using Cisco Connect
You can try installing the router with the help of the Cisco Connect software. Here is the link for installing the router: http://www6.nohold.net/Cisco2/ukp.aspx?pid=80&app=vw&vw=1&login=1&json=1&docid=e30f926604334d5386685...
Here is the link to install your router without using the setup CD : http://www6.nohold.net/Cisco2/ukp.aspx?pid=93&login=1&vw=1&app=search&articleid=22734&userrole=Links...

  • Newbie question about setting up iTunes to sync across multiple computers

    Hi,
    Right now I am using iTunes primarily for listening to streaming radio. However in about 2-3 weeks after I move, I am considering importing all my CDs into iTunes.
    So my question is this. What can I do before I start that will make my life easier for syncing my iTunes across multiple computers.
    I don't expect the computers to connect to each via internet but I do have a 4 GB flash disk and 230 GB firewire drive that could be used. And since one of the computers is MacBook Pro, I could use it in target mode I think.
    Thanks.

    Authorization only applies to computers. When you update a device any protected content on the device for which the library is not authorised will be removed. Otherwise no attempt is made to remove content that was added by a now deauthorised library.
    There is a separate scheme permitting up to 10 devices (computers, iPhones, iPad or iPod touches) to be registered for automatic downloads of your purchases with a different mechanism for deregistering devices.
    Once you have a file on your computer you can physically copy it to any other computer in the same way that you would copy any other file like a Word document, put it on a disk, email it if not too large, burn it to DVD, stick it on an external hard drive or move it over a network. You can use Get Info. To tell you where it is now and you can drop it into the library at the other end.
    The user tip shows how to backup the whole library and then update that backup efficiently. Such a backup to a portable drive also provides a possible tool for transporting any content to another computer.

  • What is DHCP? I'm still confused about setting up Airport Extreme

    I still unfortunately an confused by this:
    No problem. I certainly understand. Again the key is only the device directly connected to the modem should be configured to provide the PPPoE credentials ... and (again) if the G5 was configured to do so, it would now have to be the AEBSn. In turn, the G5 would need to be reconfigured for "Using DHCP."
    I don't know how to reconfigure my G5 and I'm afraid to do so. And, I don't know what DHCP is?
    What you were saying is that I have to configure my Airport Extreme to the same settings that are now on this G5 and change the G5 settings to DHCP.
    Sorry to be a bother. I just returned from a long trip and am getting ready to install the Airport Extreme. Would the software we simple enough for me to understand and just follow the instructions that Apple supplies?

    lucin wrote:

    Older DSL modem require that the device connected to them supply the PPPoE sign-on information. However, I've seen DSL modems that can store and supply PPPoE sign-on information so that the device connected to them doesn't need to.

    Like you just stated: "Using DHCP".
    I don't know what DHCP is?
    DHCP is "Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol". It's intended to provide an Internet client with all the information (IP address, etc.) that it needs.
    What you were saying is that I have to configure my Airport Extreme to the same settings that are now on this G5 and change the G5 settings to DHCP.
    Yes.
    Your post strikes me as a reply to another message that's not in this thread. If you intended to continue another discussion, you should have done a "reply" to a message in that discussion.

  • Newbie question about setting the date of a UIDatePicker

    I created a UIDatePicker in my view and called it targetDate.
    If I don't set targetDate's date property, the UIDatePicker shows up by default with a date of November 30, 0002.
    So, when the view loads, I did this:
    NSDate *today = [NSDate date];
    targetDate.date = today;
    (Note: in the above expression, the square brackets around "NSDate date" don't show up and are turning the expression into a link instead.)
    After doing that, when the view loads the UIDatePicker object initially shows the correct month and date, but it shows 0001 as the year.
    So my question is, why doesn't this set the correct year?
    In the Interface Builder the UIDatePicker's minimum and maximum dates are set from 1/1/0001 to 1/1/4001. I don't know if that has anything to do with the problem. I assumed that was just setting the allowed range for picking.
    I don't know what the "Date" setting field in the IB above the minimum date field is supposed to be for either.
    Anyway, am I not setting the date property correctly?
    Thanks,
    doug

    Instead of setting the .date property when the view loads I ended setting it when the UIDatePicker is displayed and the date setting works ok now.
    By the by, if you have very early dates set, like January 1, 0001, the dates of the months are off by a few days. I guess that has to do with the whatever happened like 1000 years ago when they made a big adjustment to the calendars.

  • Newbie - confused about clips and "Unrendered"

    Hello - Sorry for the newbie-ness. Just got FCE, watched the tutorials... Imported a .mov file, have edited the clip a bit and I have two clips in the timeline using "superimpose" for the second one, so that I could view both happening simultaneously. But when I try to play them back to view them I'm not seeing them, though I hear the audio of both clips.AND, when I press play the far right window says "unrendered," but when I pause I see the clip in the far right window. So, what am I doing wrong? Thank you very much.
    Nick

    Nothing. Superimpose puts one clip on top of the other. It does not adjust the transparency or alter the clip in any way to see the underlying image. If you want to do that you can do it by opening the clip from the timeline into the viewer and in the motion tab adjusting opacity, scale, crop, whatever.
    The material is unrendered because it probably does not match the sequence settings. Check item properties for both the sequence and the clips and make sure they match in every respect.

  • A bit confused about setting up two accounts in iTunes

    Dear Folks,
    I now have two iPads, which I (need to) have separate AppleID's for. I understand I can share apps between them if I authorize iTunes on my iMac with both ID's. I am not quite sure about the correct way to do that. I already have the iMac authorized for AppleID#1. If I go into iTunes and click on Store/Authorize this Computer... and enter my AppleID#2 information into Account name and Password boxes, does this authorize my iMac's iTunes for BOTH ID's or does it just change the authorization from ID#1 to ID#2?
    If the former is correct, I understand the way to proceed is to xync up both iPads to iTunes and then I can drag and drop apps from one iPad's library listings to the other, right?
    If this is not the correct way to get dual authorizations, what is?
    Thanks!
    pax / Ctein

    No, there are many discussions here that clearly state that is not the case.

  • Totally confused about setting up printer

    I am using an iMac G5 running OS X 10.3.9. I have an Airport Extreme base station and an HP Officejet 7210 All-in-One (printer/scanner/fax/copier). I somehow managed to get the Airport Extreme network up and running successfully. The iMac G5 is connected to the base station directly via the LAN port (since the iMac is not wireless) and the base station is connected to a cable modem via the WAN port. The network is being shared by a Windows based computer with a Linksys wi-fi card, and is working fine.
    My printer is ethernet network-enabled (or so the store told me), but since there is only one LAN port on the base station, I am guessing that my only options are to either connect the printer to the USB port on the base station, to connect it to a USB port directly on the iMac, or to buy some kind of hub thingy that would let me connect more than one device to the LAN port on my base station. Is that right?
    First, I tried to connect the printer to the USB port on the base station, but when I did this I was unable to even run the printer set up utility for the iMac because it couldn't find the printer (even though it shows up on the Airport Admin Utility when I go to Configure / USB Printer).
    So then I connected the printer directly to the iMac and ran the printer set up utility, and once the utility had been run and the drivers installed, changed it back so that the printer was again connected to the base station. But once I did this, my computer was again unable to find the printer.
    So what do I do now? If I have more than one option for setting up this network and connecting the printer, please let me know the pros and cons of each.
    Thanks.

    I have a similar setup. G4 connected to the Lan port and cable modem connected to the WAN port of the AP Extreme base station. Dell lap top with a DLink PCMCIA card.
    The ethernet port on my printer required a card in the printer - expensive. I found the USB route worked fine.
    Setup: You are looking for USB > HP in the pull down menu. A bonjour driver should appear. You do lose the abiltity to activate the printer utilites however.
    Oh yest try turning the printer on and off to register the USB cable with the base station.
    Because you have installed drivers via a direct connection already you may end up with two drivers in the printer list after searching. Check the get info to confirm the Bonjour driver which you want to keep and use.
    I found Bonjour for Windows was a great utility for the Wirelss PC client. Only run Bonjour for Windows after setting up your printer to run via the base station /USB connection.

  • Newbie question about setting up a wireless USB device as a router.

    Hi. I have this Nintendo Wi-Fi USB Connector, which used to be very useful for getting my DS and Wii online (I don't have a wireless router.)
    By using some modified drivers from Buffalo I think, I eventually manage to install it as an ordinary wireless device and later set it up as an all-purpose wi-fi router device. I want to do exactly this in Arch if possible.
    As far as I know, there are no real drivers for this device, but I tried some, and got stuck later on.
    I basically want to simply be able to use my laptop, PS3, Wii and DS on it. Nothing fancy, and no encryption, as I only use it when necessary.
    After plugging the device in the USB, I ran
    $ hwdetect --show-net
    NET : forcedeth ppp_generic slhc mac80211 rfkill rt2500usb rt2x00lib rt2x00usb cfg80211
    I looked like it's was quite ordinary actually. So I tried modprobing rt2500usb (should I modprobe the 2 others too?).
    Surprise, surprise! I haven't edited my /etc/rc.conf at all yet.
    $ iwconfig

    Well, at least it detected my wlan. I haven't been able to test if I can actually get online with this thing as there is no network to try on around here.
    So, where do I go from here? The KISS way, if you know what I mean, hehehe

    Thank you. Got a bit further, but probably not in the right direction  : [
    Figured out that the WFC uses the rt2570 chipset (according to wikipedia), which I downloaded from the link you gave. Installed it, and had to blacklist the other ralink-modules that were present for it to work.
    Now, my iwconfig looks like this:
    lo no wireless extensions.
    eth0 no wireless extensions.
    rausb0 RT2500USB WLAN ESSID:"" Nickname:""

    Rx invalid nwid:0 Rx invalid crypt:0 Rx invalid frag:0
    Tx excessive retries:0 Invalid misc:0 Missed beacon:0
    Well, it apperaently did something.
    By looking at the lsmod it only shows up the rt2570.
    Well, sudo iwconfig rausb0 mode master returns the same error I had ... :[
    Does this mean I'm screwed? xD
    EDIT: The forums on that site suggested that the master mode was disabled in the legacy drivers (and the other drivers for that matter) :[
    Well, dual boot here we go

    I am so confused about iCloud.  My husband says he never set it up but all is information is on both his iPad and iPhone.  How can that be and do I have to have iTunes Match?

    "All his information" may or may not include things customarily stored in iCloud.  Perhaps all the information is on both devices because they were both recently synced using the same iTunes sync.
    Do you have to have iTunes Match?  No.  Many folks do not have iTunes Match.  The music purchased from iTunes is always available to the purchaser.  Other music is stored in iTunes on the person's computer.

  • Confused about the 'cpu fsb clock frequency' setting, etc., in cell in bios

    just got a new k8n neo2-f nforce3 board with an a64 3500+ venice chip.  It is properly recognized in the bios and windows as an a64 3500+ at 2.2ghz, but I'm confused about the cell menu settings in the bios. I see a 'cpu fsb clock frequency' which was automatically set at 200mhz, but the fsb runs at 1Ghz (1000mhz), so what is the 'fsb clock frequency' if not equal to the cpu fsb?  Is 200 the correct setting for that?  Should I need to change any of the other settings in here?  I wonder, because my 3dmark03 score only went up 200 points from the same system with a AthlonXP 2500+ chip and kt4avl mobo, which seems like a low increase to me.....

    I would set that to Manual in BIOS, so that you can incremently increase the CPU speed without causing a sudden crash. Each system is different and operates within the specs of not only the CPU, but system memory and PCI-E add-ins as well. Your video card is the primary driver behgind your 3DMark scores...but you haven't listed that?!

  • Confused about CLASSPATH and how java handles import statements...

    Hello,
    I must admit I don't get it. I read the articles about setting CLASSPATH etc. but I still wonder:
    If you use an import statement, what does the compiler do? I.e. where does it look for the specified classes? I find it confusing because I see in different locations different .jar files:
    C:\jdk1.3.1_03\lib\dt.jar
    C:\jdk1.3.1_03\lib\htmlconvertor.jar
    C:\jdk1.3.1_03\lib\tools.jar
    and also
    C:\jdk1.3.1_03\jre\lib\i18n.jar
    C:\jdk1.3.1_03\jre\lib\rt.jar
    C:\jdk1.3.1_03\jre\lib\jaws.jar
    C:\jdk1.3.1_03\jre\lib\sunrassign.jar
    Can someone explain me what the purpose is of these files?
    And why do I have the same contents in
    C:\Program Files\JavaSoft\JRE\1.3.1_03\lib
    and in
    C:\jdk1.3.1_03\jre\lib
    Why is that?
    Thanks for answering my questions!
    -mike

    Thanx for the answers, but I still wonder, everyone
    here says I need to set the classpath, but I don't.Probably because your classes are already in the class path. The compiler/jvm also look for classes by themselves not just in jar files, when just a directory is supplied in the class path. And a period (".") is a valid directory.
    Programs importing different classes compile with no
    problem. So what's up with that?
    Presumably you are referring to your own code - because they are in the class path.
    Second, I still don't understand why the runtime needs
    the .jar files. The runtime uses classes, like String, that have to come from somewhere.
    This would also mean that end-users
    need to set the classpath to the .jar files in their
    JRE directory to be able to run programs that import
    classes from these .jars. But this is not true, right?No it is true. The end-users will have to set the class path. There are variations on this which make it seem like no class path is set. For instance applets in a browser are java but the end-user does not need to set a class path. That is because the browser knows how to download classes/jars and how to set it up so it uses them. (Actually it uses a class loader, but that is probably more information that you need.)
    Because if I make some nice classes myself and import
    them, how can I expect my end-user to install these
    classes and make a classpath for them?That would be between you and you end-user.
    First installation is not part of java. For installation you will have to find something outside of java to accomplish the goal.
    Additionally how the class path gets set is OS specific. Java does not deal with that. You will also have to find some way to deal with this (most likely part of the installation.)
    There are also variations on this. For example the browser example I gave above. Or using the ext directory. Or creating an executable jar. Or simply setting the class path.
    In my understanding it should only be needed in the JDK, not
    in the JRE. True or am I mistaken?Mistaken. The class path is needed in the JRE as well. You will need to set it.

  • Confused about extending the Sprite class

    Howdy --
    I'm learning object oriented programming with ActionScript and am confused about the Sprite class and OO in general.
    My understanding is that the Sprite class allows you to group a set of objects together so that you can manipulate all of the objects simultaneously.
    I've been exploring the Open Flash Chart code and notice that the main class extends the Sprite class:
    public class Base extends Sprite {
    What does this enable you to do?
    Also, on a related note, how do I draw, say, a line once I've extended it?
    Without extending Sprite I could write:
    var graphContainer:Sprite = new Sprite();
    var newLine:Graphics = graphContainer.graphics;
    And it would work fine. Once I extend the Sprite class, I'm lost. How do I modify that code so that it still draws a line? I tried:
    var newLine:Graphics = this.graphics;
    My understanding is that since I'm extending the Sprite class, I should still be able to call its graphics method (or property? I have no idea). But, it yells at me, saying "1046: Type was not found or was not a compile-time constant: Graphics.

    Thanks -- that helped get rid of the error, I really appreciate it.
    Alas, I am still confused about the extended Sprite class.
    Here's my code so far. I want to draw an x-axis:
    package charts {
        import flash.display.Sprite;
        import flash.display.Graphics;
        public class Chart extends Sprite {
            // Attributes
            public var chartName:String;
            // Constructor
            public function Chart(width:Number, height:Number) {
                this.width = width;
                this.height = height;
            // Methods
            public function render() {
                drawAxis();
            public function drawAxis() {
                var newLine:Graphics = this.graphics;
                newLine.lineStyle(1, 0x000000);
                newLine.moveTo(0, 100);
                newLine.lineTo(100, 100);
    I instantiate Chart by saying var myChart:Chart = new Chart(); then I say myChart.render(); hoping that it will draw the axis, but nothing happens.
    I know I need the addChild method somewhere in here but I can't figure out where or what the parameter is, which goes back to my confusion regarding the extended Sprite class.
    I'll get this eventually =)

  • PSE 7 confusion about folder location, help needed

    Here's some background: I'm using PhotoShop Elements 7 on Win XP.  I have an external firewire hard drive I use for overflow/backups.  Originally, this showed up as a K: drive on my system.
    I added a RAID controller and two more drives to stripe as a single drive for temp space rendering movies.  This ended up as a K: drive and the external moved to L:  However, when I did this there were some pictures from my catalog that I had on the external drive.  I have used File > reconnect missing files to handle the moves, but PSE is still confused (very).
    PSE has started to mix up the RAID (K:) and external (L:) content.  If I move a set of pictures (e.g. a folder of them) onto the external drive (L:) via drag and drop in the folder location view, the folder will show up empty on the L: heirarchy, but will show up as a gray folder icon in the K: RAID drive hierarchy.  If I open up windows explorer, the RAID drive will appear empty.  In other cases (I'm not sure when/how yet), pictures physically end up on the RAID drive itself instead of the external.  I have uninstalled both the external drive and the RAID drive and reinstalled them both, but they are still getting confused in the folder view by PSE.  I've also tried moving content outside of PSE and just reconnecting missing files, but it still wants to put things under the K: RAID drive instead of the external L:.
    I've searched everywhere I can think of for a description of what gray folder icons in the folder location view means and can find none.  I'm not sure how to convince PSE that there's nothing on the RAID K: drive and it shouldn't try to connect the two.  Any suggestions?
    Thanks,
    Jim

    Thank you!  I ran psedbtool and the output shows the catalog has the wrong drive letter for the L: drive.
    Is there a way to make PSE forget about the K: and L: drives that it is so confused about so that it can relearn of their existence?  If I use the drive letter reassignment to fix PSE, it will break other apps that are now dependent on the current drive letter assignments.  I've tried removing all files from the L: drive, but it's still remembered as part of the catalog.
    Thanks,
    Jim

  • Confusion about report Server

    Hi all ,
    I am complete newbie to Report Server.  I have a query regarding the report server . We have installed 11gR2 Report server , on OEL  following the standard Oracle Documentation. After completing the installation some online blogs suggest about Setting up A stand alone Report Server , I want to know that what is the purpose of this stand alone report server .
    Thanks

    See my Friend, Its completely two different things which you must to know first ...
    One is Oracle Reports Server will run independently (on most cases) to execute your reports.
    The next thing is when you call a report from your forms (which you have designed) you must specify the port ID of the reports server to communicate.
    If you are a newbie (as you said) then have a look on the following link to know the basic working and knowledge about Oracle Reports

    I must be missing something very basic. In Aperture ( & in Lightroom) I've noticed that there are 3 levels of brightness in the view panels - ie. if I select all, all photos light up. If I then select only one photo, it becomes a bit brighter. And if
