Newbie Flash Banners Help

First I am new to Flash and have mostly worked in PS.
I have created several animated banners in flash.  The file sizes are large.  I am trying to find a what is the best format and settings to use export these for upload into an website affiliate program (CJ).
I also want to know if I should have taken all of the media from PS and "saved for web" and stripped them down before I imported them to flash.  I was hoping that there was a setting in Flash that would do that but I am not sure if there is one.   The files for web banners are supposed to very small.  I am just trying to understand how I should have created them and also how to publish them.   I converted all of the images symbols thinking that would help. That did not.
Currently if I publish a gif they look horrible.  I know I doing something wrong, but I just direction. They look great in flash but I am stuck.  Any help is greatly appreciated.

You should save for web out of PS. If they need transparency, use png. If they are simply rectangles, use jpgs (about 65 - 70% out of PS). Then in flash, in the library right click on your jpg and hit Properties, uncheck "Use Imported Bitmap Data" and change that percentage to what ever you like - the higher the number the larger file size, the lower number the worse quality.
Text in flash looks much better. Keep in mind that fonts can carry extra weight.
Ned and KGlad are also right, make the images the correct size out of PS first.
There is a lot that goes into optimization, read the link above, its only part of optimizing - the images part.

  • Newbie flash site help needed

    I am building my first website (for photography) and I am
    trying to learn as much as possible to do it right. I bought a
    flash template from Tempate Monster.com (#11226) and I have
    modified as needed, to include my name, and my photos. Can I upload
    this site as a whole onto the net? or do I need to input that into
    Dreamweaver or similair? Next question, is as the pages are all
    movies essentially, can I add more pages? And lastly, can I
    reference a 2nd flash template from the first, as I want to buy
    another template, which is more geared towards a photogallery,
    rather than an information database.
    Thanks for your time, I feel I am right there....but then
    again, so far away!!!

    Hi there, looks like you posted this one a couple days ago
    but incase you come back to check I think I can help.
    Well, if you're using a template within flash you can simply
    use shift+F12 to publish the site. It will create a .html, and .swf
    file in the same directory you have the .fla flash file stored. To
    publish to the web, upload the .html and .swf file to your public
    web directory. Simple as that.
    no problem linking pages etc. Just create a button and link
    use getURL(website,"_self") in your onRelease event handler. Happy
    to give more detail if you like.
    Cheers,
    Tom

    sorry if i had to ask again. but when you mean during install does that mean during installation of windows?
    thank you very much for your quick response.
    yes, in a begging of XP installation press "F6".
    hit "F6" here few times.
    then at next screen put diskette which contain RAID drivers into floppy and load them with pressing "S" key.
    load 1st one, and config. them hit "S" key again and load second one as well. you need to load it both:

  • Flash Banners not working in IE7

    Hi,
    On our websites we sell advertising space and allow our
    customers to use flash banners as advertising. We have had this
    system in place for several years, but all of a sudden it has
    stopped working in IE7, much to the displeasure of our customer.
    The system we have had in place is that we ask our customers to put
    the following action script in their banner:
    on (press)
    getURL("fscommand:click");
    When the banner is clicked it calls the associated java
    script:
    function Banner1234_DoFSCommand(command, args)
    if (command == 'click')
    window.open('
    http://www.website.com')
    This use to work in IE7, but doesn't seem to any more. This
    system still works in FireFox, Opera, Chrome, Safari and IE6. If
    anyone has any idea why this would no longer works in IE7 it would
    be much appreciated, and any kind of work around would be
    fantastic.
    Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

    Hi,
    I have managed to solve my own problem and thought that I
    should share the solution for any one having a similar problem.
    The problem was that the flash file I was displaying was
    stored on a different domain to the website I wanted to display the
    flash file on. This activated a little documented (as far as I can
    tell anyway) and rather annoying feature of IE7 called
    "Cross-Domain Protection". This feature appears to prevent you from
    clicking flash files that are sourced from other domains, so to
    solve the problem I moved the file to the same domain and it works
    fine.
    We store many different file types and various pieces of
    content for our websites on different domains to the ones they are
    displayed on, and I have only encountered this problem with flash
    files, why this would be the case is beyond me, but there it is.
    Thanks,
    Ryan

  • Linking Flash Banners to a Web Page

    I've had a bunch of Flash banners created.
    In DW CS3 (on Mac OS X 10.5.8), they display just fine, but I can't link them to a web page, like I can with any other graphic.
    Some old info I saw (three years old) says I have to create an invisible button in Flash (which of course I don't have) and place it on top of the banner. Can that be true?
    It seems to me incomprehensible that there isn't a reasonably simple method to link ANYTHING in DW to a web site.
    Can anyone guide me? Thanks.

    I haven't seen any Flash affiliate banners.  But I'm not hugely active with affiliate advertising.
    Basically,  you want to give your  affiliates a  snippet of JavaScript or HTML code they can copy & paste into their web pages.  The  code retrieves an image (most often a Jpg or animated Gif) from your server.  When someone clicks the link, your site collects and tracks the   affiliate ID using cookies and most likely stores this info for later use.
    If you're new to "affiliate marketing,"  there are tools & services to help you.
    Commission Junction has been around for quite a while.

  • Flash button help PLEASE

    PLEASE HELP ME!!!
    Ok, here is my problem in short. I am fairly competent in
    flash. I am able to export a flash button out in flash 6, but am
    not in flash 8 or 9. The button just turns dead after i upload the
    button into dreamweaver even though its working when i export it
    out in flash.
    I did ALOT of experimenting. The button that was exported out
    in flash 8 or 9 can work with "_blank" but not "_self". I did
    exactly the same thing for flash 6 and it works!!! This is so
    frustrating.
    I was hoping to export it out in flash 8 or 9 because it has
    additional graphics in it.
    Can anyone please tell me what is wrong. THANKS.
    (dead button means when clicked on nothing happens)

    If you want to use Flash for navigation, consider this -
    1. Some people don't have Flash installed - what do they do?
    2. Search engines don't parse Flash links - your site will
    not be spidered
    3. Screen assistive devices don't parse Flash links - what
    will those users
    do?
    4. DW cannot maintain links within a Flash movie, so if you
    move or rename
    a linked file, your navigation will break - what will you do?
    It's usually a very bad idea for these reasons...
    Your link doesn't work.

  • Flash Banners Click tag info wars AS2  or 3

    I do a lot of Flash banners for clients, I have a situation where I had a client send me this article
    http://www.flashclicktag.com/
    and tell me that I should not be using Flash for banners in AS3.
    I have click or clikTag info for AS2 and 3
    AS2
    on (release) {
    if (_root.clickTAG.substr(0,5) == "http:") {
    getURL(_root.clickTAG, "_blank");
    CLICK TAG AS 3.0
    myButton.addEventListener(  MouseEvent.CLICK,
    function():void {
    if (root.loaderInfo.parameters.clickTAG.substr(0,5)=="http:") {
    navigateToURL(
    new URLRequest(root.loaderInfo.parameters.clickTAG),
    "_blank"
    I even have the click tag code for Google Ad serve which just replaces the & with~
    ButtonName.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, functionName)
    function functionName(event:MouseEvent) : void
         if (root.loaderInfo.parameters.clickTAG.substr(0, 5) == "http:")
             Url = String(root.loaderInfo.parameters.clickTAG).split
    ("~").join("&");
             navigateToURL(new URLRequest(Url), "_blank");
         }// end if[/code]
    In an honest opinion which format should I use? as I don't need to do double the work to re do from AS3 to AS2. Obviously some as services will only allow AS2 for clickTag info.
    any help?

    I'm in the same position, just starting to move from
    intermediate comfort with AS2 to a fresh beginning with AS3...not
    so easy for a guy who has so little logical thinking that I failed
    algebra in high school! I too am a bit annoyed by all the extra
    steps involved, such as having to add EventListeners for mouse
    events, when these really ought to be simplified and there by
    default, like in AS2. For example, why can't onMouseDown remain as
    a built-in behavior rather than having to take up 2 lines of code
    to insert it each and every time now?
    On the other hand, I am delighted at the way a lot of the
    inconsistencies in AS2 have been gotten rid of. No more having to
    remember when to put .x and when ._x, and so on. And now that I'm
    finally starting to learn how to use external classes, I see the
    beauty in it, and AS3 is custom-made for this. It seems that if you
    ever want to really advance in ActionScript programming, you need
    to start working with creating your own classes, and as long as
    you're going to learn those from scratch, may as well learn it in
    AS3.
    Putting AS on buttons was outdated practice years ago. It
    makes much greater sense to place all script on the timeline, with
    comments to separate it. Try programming the simplest game where
    objects are moving around and colliding, all controlled by script,
    and then a couple coded buttons control them. Bugs are inevitable,
    and debugging script when it's partly on the timeline, some is
    attached to main movie buttons, and some attached to movie clips
    inside movie clips, is a nightmare. Once you do scripting on the
    timeline, you'll never want to go back to the crude practice of
    attaching script to objects.
    Overall, it's a steeper climb than I'd have liked, to upgrade
    my knowledge from AS2 to AS3. But ultimately I think it's the best
    idea.

    flash player has been installed multiple time without errors but bbc news website and even flash player help say it isn't. How do i get out of this loop? - using windows 7 ultimate and latest IE11

    I have had the same problem for WEEKS and I cannot access any sites that use Flash. Flash has been installed on this computer since I bought it in 2012. I have allowed auto updates but for weeks the updates never get past Step 2 - is this because I do NOT want the Google Tool bar? I use NO tool bars as there is only 6 inches of vertical screen space. Is this because I uncheck wanting Chrome as a default browser?  It is already installed, I just don't use it.  I came to this site and ran the check is it installed and the system says it is either not installed or not enabled. Version 14 just downloaded about 30 minutes ago - but did not progress to Step 3 although a pop up screen came up with a finish button, which I clicked. WHAT is the problem and how do I fix it?  If this were just a compatibility bug between IE11 and Adobe they have had plenty of time to fix it.

    Hello,
    Some problems with Flash video playback can be resolved by disabling hardware acceleration in your Flash Player settings. (See [[Flash Plugin - Keep it up to date and troubleshoot problems|this article]] for more information on using the Flash plugin in Firefox).
    To disable hardware acceleration in Flash Player:
    #Go to this [http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/video-playback-issues.html#main_Solve_video_playback_issues Adobe Flash Player Help page].
    #Right-click on the Flash Player logo on that page.
    #Click on '''Settings''' in the context menu. The Adobe Flash Player Settings screen will open.
    # Click on the icon at the bottom-left of the Adobe Flash Player Settings window to open the Display panel. <br/> <br/>[[Image:fpSettings1.PNG]] <br/>
    # Remove the check mark from '''Enable hardware acceleration'''.
    # Click '''Close''' to close the Adobe Flash Player Settings Window.
    # Restart Firefox.
    This [http://www.macromedia.com/support/documentation/en/flashplayer/help/help01.html Flash Player Help - Display Settings page] has more information on Flash Player hardware acceleration, if you're interested.
    Does this solve the problem? Let us know.

  • Can't click newer Flash banners

    Hello.
    I'm a web developer for a small Danish marketing company, and get sent Flash banners from advertisers, but we don't own Flash ourselves, so I can't get official support. I'm also not very good at Flash myself, so bear with me.
    Problem is, that lately we have begun to receive banners that don't link. Actually, if I open them in Flash player / MPC locally, they link just fine, but as soon as I upload them to my banner system, they stop working. It's not the banner system's fault, though, as I've tried making a simple test page with nothing but the respective object/embed tags, and still no dice. The problem seems to occur when the banner is located on a different server than the displaying page. The advertisers also claim that other companies have no problem showing/linking the same banners.
    I talked one of the advertisers into sending me the .fla files for a campaign that didn't work, and have studied the actionscript, but found nothing out of the ordinary. It does seem that the non-working banners are made with Flash CS4, but I'm not sure about that.
    This is a huge problem for this small company, as we have been forced to ask advertisers to only send GIF-banners, which many, unsurprisingly, don't appreciate.
    I have attached (if this thing works, that is) one of the non-functioning banners' .fla file.
    Also, here are a couple of test pages to show the problem:
    http://elek-data.dk/test/flashtest.php
    http://odsgard.dk/test/flashtest.php
    - Notice the banner is the same, and in both cases it is loaded from odsgard.dk. The odsgard.dk test works fine, but the elek-data.dk one does not. You can click the banner all you want, but nothing happens.
    What to do, oh gurus?

    Actually when i embed your swf in my server it is working
    <object classid="clsid:d27cdb6e-ae6d-11cf-96b8-444553540000" codebase="http://download.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=9,0,0,0" width="140" height="140" id="test" align="middle">
        <param name="allowScriptAccess" value="always" />
        <param name="movie" value="http://odsgard.dk/test/test.swf" />
         <param name="quality" value="high" />
         <param name="bgcolor" value="#ffffff" />

        </object>
    and when I remove the   allowScriptAccess="always" not working.
    First you embed the movie like above and test it

  • Will Flash Catalyst help "me"?

    Flash Catalyst is supposed in bring developers and designers together. But I am one of those hybrids and does the devloping and designing. Usually I will create skins in Illustrator, then import skin artwork in flex, which auto generates the .css file applying each skin to each class, and all I need to do is reference the .css file. So with this in mind will Flash Catalyst help me at all?
    I have been using Illustrator for a while now and am comfortable designing with it, so would it really be worth learning a whole new app?
    There is one major drawback in the way I do it that I wonder if Catalyst handles. When I skin in illustrator the overall themeColor is built into the skin, so I cannot change the theme color simply by changing the global themColor style. Is this something that is addressed in Catalyst?
    Also off topic, does anyone know if Orielly is going to be publishing a "Programming Flex 4" book?
    Thanks!

    Catalyst is in his early birth stage, so for now it's really slow and memory consuming, you'll spend lot of time importing Illustrator stuff in to your Catalyst project. As to your question regarding themeColor, yes this could be done easily.
    Overall, I think Catalyst it's a handy tool to bring creative Designer Idea to live faster than ever, and it would be just ideal for making quick semi-functional sketches just to feel the breath of Idea in test-drive mode. As well it suits for simple applications better, the simplier application is - the more benfit you'll gain out of Catalyst
