Newbie got BB Curve 8520

Hello to all of you.
I am new here. I just bought a Blackberry Curve 8520.
I tried to connect to WIFI in my home but it still didn't work.
I already did the steps which i got from this:
http://www.dailydigitals.com/how-to-connect-wifi-via-blackberry.html
My blackberry is already connected to my WIFI.
BUT!!!
My BB can't obtain any IP Address.
In the website of my Router at home, i checked already, that my router can detect my blackberry.
Even there is an IP Address for my blackberry that is displayed in the website of my router.
So, i changed the configuration of WIFI Connection in my BB.
Instead of automatically obtain IP Address, i put an IP Address for my BB manually.
I clicked "save".
And i checked on Options -> Status.
The IP Address is still not displayed. It is still 0.0.0.0
Can anyone please help me?
Thank you
Enrico

Hi ronanodri,
Welcome to BlackBerry Support Community Forums.
Are you able to see the BlackBerry listed as a removable drive in Computer/My Computer on the PC?
Try connecting the 8520 to a different computer to see if the media card is detected there, or try a different USB cable and USB port to connect it to your PC. Also try disabling UAC on your PC and rebooting.

  • Curve 8520 - Video quality after v5.0 update

    Hello all!
Got a Curve 8520 and since updating yesterday, the frame rate when recording video has dropped significantly meaning jerky/jumpy video. It may be worth adding that even when in video camera mode but NOT recording the feed is still jumpy.
I can see the difference by watching video I recorded before the update and also by comparing to my wifes phone (exactly the same as mine) which has not had the update yet.
Any ideas or solutions would be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks

You can always downgrade back to the previous OS if you like and see if the video quality returns.
Always, do a backup first, using Desktop Manager > Backup.
    1. Delete the newer OS from your PC by going to Control Panel >Add/Remove Programs.
    2. Then download and install the older version of the OS. BlackBerry Operating System Downloads
    3. Install the older OS to the PC by running (double clicking) the file you downloaded.
    4. Go to c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader and delete the file named "vendor.xml."
    5. Plug in BB and double click on "Loader.exe." It's located in the same place as the above vendor.xml file.

  • Blackberry Curve 8520 blank white screen

I recently got the Curve 8520. It is supposed to be for T-Mobile, but my friend gave it to me unlocked, so I could use it for AT&T.
Today, it got a blank white screen. A pure white screen with nothing on it.
I could still make calls but the screen remained white. I tried pulling out the battery to reset it, but when it booted, it was still a white screen.
So I searched for solutions, and one said to wipe it.
So now the curve still has a white screen, and I cannot do anything. (call, etc.)
    Does anyone have a solution?

Yes if you able to receive calls on your hadnset then your LCD will be damaged. Please try this
    1.  May be your LCD will be damaged because of water. For confirmation about that please pull out the bettry and see the white sticker infront of IMEI number right side of bettry area (inside wise) if it is red then your LCD is damaged due to liquid of water.
Its the only soltuion for you that you must consult to market and tell them to replace the LCD.

  • What is wrong with my Curve 8520? Please help!

I am having problems with my BB Curve 8520. v5.0.0.592
First the phone started freezing all the time and I had to do a battery pull to unfreeze it, and everytime after it restarted it got the Uncaught Exception: java.lang.error.
I uninstalled my BBM V6.1beta and my appworld 3 beta and installed the lastest official releases for them but it didn't fix the problem.
I then deleted all the apps that I installed recently and after installing Photo Editor Ultimate the java error stopped.
Right now the freezing is gone but now when I download pictures or songs, they don't show up anywhere on the phone. Not in the gallery and not in the file explorer. They only show up after I reboot my phone. Also when right now when I press the menue button, the menu at the left doesn't show, it only appears after I scrolled over every item in the menu, so basically it was invisible until I went up and down on the trackpad.
    What can be the problem?

    Hi MarcC8520,
Welcome to the BlackBerry Support Community.
Try backing up your device via the BlackBerry Desktop Software and performing a clean reload of your device software. http://bbry.lv/bpv7DT Make sure to test for the issue before restoring any data from your backup file.
    Hope this helps.

Hi and Welcome to the Community!!
There's pretty much no diagnosing those -- they are the equivalent of the random errors in Windows for which tracing the root cause is fruitless. Basically, these are the last out in the programming code -- some event occurred for which there is no handler in the code. The fix is a code update that handles the event...but, again, knowing what the event is is pretty much impossible. So, there are a few things to try:
Sometimes, the code simply becomes corrupt and needs to be refreshed -- just like a reboot:
Anytime random strange behavior or sluggishness creeps in, the first thing to do is a battery pop reboot. With power ON, remove the back cover and pull out the battery. Wait about a minute then replace the battery and cover. Power up and wait patiently through the long reboot -- ~5 minutes. See if things have returned to good operation. Like all computing devices, BB's suffer from memory leaks and such...with a hard reboot being the best cure.
If it won't boot up cleanly, then you may need to try Safe Mode:
KB17877 How to start a BlackBerry smartphone in safe mode
There might be an updated code set from the carrier -- check them via this portal:
     http://na.blackberry.com/eng/support/downloads/download_sites.jsp
The toughest possible cause is a badly behaving app. To find it, there are a couple of options. One is to see if you can read the log file:
Go to the home screen. Hold down the "alt" key and type 'lglg'. (You will not see anything while you type). This will bring up the log file. Scroll down (probably many pages) untill you see a line that says 'uncaught execption'. Click on this line. The name of the app will be in the info. Alternative methods for bringing up the logs are in this KB:
KB05349How to enable, access, and extract the event logs on a BlackBerry smartphone
The other method is to remove apps one at a time, waiting a while in between (I usually recommend a week), until the problem ceases...thereby discovering the offending app. Still another method is to reload the BB OS cleanly, leaving some time between adding other apps onto the BB so as to be able to determine exactly which one is the cause.
Good luck and let us know!

Hi and Welcome to the Community!
    Please refer to this:
    KB05305Localization support for BlackBerry smartphones
It all depends on the exact BB OS package you have installed to your BB.
At the top of each device forum, there should be some "sticky" threads that discuss the OS levels available for many models. If they include your model, then please use those as reference as you proceed. Otherwise, you will have to dig through the official download portal for OS packages for your model:
    http://us.blackberry.com/support/downloads/download_sites.jsp
From a PC, you can install any compatible (e.g., for your exact BB Model Number) OS package to a BB via this procedure:
    http://supportforums.blackberry.com/t5/BlackBerry-Device-Software/How-To-Reload-Your-Operating-Syste...
Note that while written for "reload" and the Storm, it can be used to upgrade, downgrade, or reload any BB device model -- it all depends on the OS package you download and install to your PC. If that OS package is from a carrier other than the carrier for which your BB was originally manufactured, then delete, on your PC, all copies of VENDOR.XML...there will be at least one, and perhaps 2, and they will be located in or similarly to (it changes based on your Windows version) these folders:
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Research In Motion\AppLoader
    C:\Users\(your Windows UserName)\AppData\Roaming\Research In Motion\BlackBerry\Loader XML
Be sure that you remove, from your PC, any other BB device OS packages as having more than one installed to the PC can cause conflicts with this procedure.
If you are on MAC, you are limited to only your carriers sanctioned OS packages...but can still use any levels that they currently sanction. See this procedure:

  • I can't browse using my blackberry browser (wifi connection w/ BB curve 8520)

    good day!
i purchased a blackberry curve 8520 (w/contract) from one of the telecommunication companies in my country - philippines. everything started all good until one day i can no longer open/use my pre-installed blackberry browser.
everytime i click on the bb browser logo, the screen just does nothing... nothing loads up on my phone.
then i tried opening the bb browser throgh the task manager panel a message appears stating: "your device does not currently have any browser configuration service book entries. please contact yor service provider to enable the browser on your device"
i have tried rebooting the phone several times, both soft and hard.
can you give me any solution for my problem? TIA.
P.S. i have unlocked my phone so i can use it on other carriers. but the problem started a month before i did so. my two friends also have the same phone (bought the same day as mine) and they are not experiencing the same problem.

Hi and Welcome to the Community!
Here are updated instructions, including notations of the required response from each step. If the response arrives correctly, you move onto the next step. If the response does not arrive correctly, you drop out of the process and contact your mobile service provider for formal support.
I suggest the following steps, in order, even if they seem redundant to what you have already tried (steps 1 and 2 each should result in a message coming to your BB...please wait for that before proceeding to the next step):
    1) Register HRT
KB00510 How to register a BlackBerry smartphone with the wireless network
Please wait for one "registration" message to arrive to your Messages app
    2) Delete and Resend Service Books (pre-BB10 devices only)
KB05000Delete the service book for the BlackBerry Internet Service email account from the BlackBerry smartphone
If you have no CMIME entry, then skip the deletion
KB02830 Send the service books for the BlackBerry Internet Service
Please wait for "Activation" Messages, one per already configured email account, to arrive in your Messages. If you have no already configured email accounts, please wait 1 hour.
    3) Reboot
Pre-BB10 Devices ONLY. With power ON, remove the back cover and pull out the battery. Wait about a minute then replace the battery and cover. Power up and wait patiently through the long reboot -- ~5 minutes.
BB10 Devices. Hold the top button down until the counter reaches zero. Wait for the device to be fully shut down (e.g., nothing at all displayed on the screen, no LED lights, etc.). Hold the top button until the red LED is lit. Wait through the full boot-up process. IF this fails, you can attempt the battery-pull method above, but it is normally NOT recommended unless nothing else works.
See if things have returned to good operation. Like all computing devices, BB's suffer from memory leaks and such...with a hard reboot being the best cure.
Hopefully that will get things going again for you! If not, then you should try deleting and re-adding your configurations for the affected email accounts. Otherwise, you should contact your mobile service provider for formal support.
    Good luck!

  • Curve 8520 Alarm clock unable to disable

Hi all really need some help got a second hand curve 8520 phone and on the clock screen there is a icon for 8.05 in morning it looks like a phone calculator with vibrate icons each side in red now i have been through everything and the person i got this from cannot remove it it goes off at 8.05 in morning and i work nights. It will go for half hour and i cant stop it  HELP please

ndvia, Greetings, and welcome to the BlackBerry.com Community Support Forums.
    1. Use your BlackBerry browser to go to http://blackberry.com/blackberrymessenger and download/install the Messenger application again. If it asks to go to AppWorld to download this, don't, just follow the link to download.
After installation and possibly another reboot, check your Instant Messaging Folder, or Downloads folder for the application.
    2. I assume this is in regard to your BlackberryID password?
    BlackBerry ID issues:
In many cases the BlackBerry ID has not been created successfully and therefore will not let you past that screen.... go to www.blackberry.com/blackberryid and try to create a new BlackBerry ID , and then log in from the device.
Still others have been sucessful by editing to allow ALL permissions for App World.
    * Go to Options/Settings > Advanced Options > Applications, (you will see your list of all your apps on your BlackBerry)
    * Sroll down to BlackBerry App World, > Click the Menu key > Edit Permissions, and change everything to allow and save it.
Now go back to your App World login and see if it works.
REMEMBER, you can also have your BlackBerryID password send you a reset also:

  • How to download Thai Font to Blackberry curve 8520

My blackberry curve 8520, T-mobile network, ver 5.0.0.681 hasn't got Thai Font on it. I would like to download Thai font for reading and input (writing).please explain how to do it step by step because I do have not much knowledge about computer or software.  I have read some topics says that I have to download and choose the network provider which mine is T-mobile and it provides only Muli-language (not All Languages) which I can't write it (only reading). I am not too sure it is correct or not.I believe I need to download Blackberry desktop software as well. please also give advice on these software.

Hi and Welcome to the Community!
The simplest way is to, on a PC (you cannot do this on MAC):
    1) Uninstall, from your PC, any BB OS packages (add/remove programs, Uninstall a Program -- it depends on your Windows OS level)
    2) Make sure you have the BB Desktop Software already installed
    http://us.blackberry.com/apps-software/desktop/?lid=us:bboftwareesktopSoftware&lpos=us:bboftware
    3) Download and install, to your PC, the BB OS package you desire:
    http://us.blackberry.com/support/downloads/download_sites.jsp
If your carrier only provides a "Multi Language" package, then you may need to look at other carriers OS packages, and find some that have "East Asia" or "All Languages" ("Multi Language" indeed does not have Thai, as per this KB).
    4) If that OS package is from a carrier other than the carrier for which your BB was originally manufactured, then delete, on your PC, all copies of VENDOR.XML...there will be at least one, and perhaps 2, and they will be located in or similarly to (it changes based on your Windows version) these folders:
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Research In Motion\AppLoader
    C:\Users\(your Windows UserName)\AppData\Roaming\Research In Motion\BlackBerry\Loader XML
    5) Now launch the Desktop Software and connect your BB...the software should offer you the OS package you installed to your PC, and you should be able to select the languages you desire If, during the process, your BB presents a "507" error, simply unplug the USB cord from the BB and re-insert it...don't do anything else...this should allow the install to continue.
    Don't forget to backup.
If you are on MAC, you are limited to only your carriers sanctioned OS packages...but can still use any levels that they currently sanction. See this procedure:

  • Problem with Bluetooth on BB Curve 8520

    Hi everyone
got a problem with my Curve 8520 (OS v5.0). Everything is working fine apart from Bluetooth connection. I can connect my device to Desktop Manager via Bluetooth but when I try to get an internet connection it's automatically reboot my BB. Same happens when I try to connect to an internet without BlackBerry Desktop Manager, using standard Dial-ip connection via Bluetooth.  Using USB connection got internet access as well as with BB Desktop Software and Dial-up mode. Does anyone know what can cause this problem?

i got a new curve 8520 from phones4u the other day and the software is 4.6.314 but i would like to upgrade to 5 but on the desktop software it says no updates avaiable and also on wireless updates just wondering if it could be the sim card i got it in the phone or either its just the phone playing up? could someone help me please.

First, in order to update to OS 5 you'll need a sim card with a valid data plan.  Once you get that then you can update to OS 5 by following the instructions below:
    http://www.blackberryforums.com/general-8500-series-discussion-gemini/241870-latest-os-8520-5-0-0-16...
If you're brave, you can wipe the device with JL_Cmder and then load the OS 5 using the above instructions without a data plan.

  • Curve 8520 os: 5.0.0.681 randomly crashing and only shows white screen and unable to reboot unless plugged in

Anyone else suffering from their curve 8520 os: 5.0.0.681 randomly crashing and only showing a white screen as well as it being unable to reboot unless it is plugged in? It often occurs when I'm playing media, using apps and maps. Had the same problem with my previous phone so it was sent in for repair and replaced but I'm still suffering from the same problem with the replacement handset! Any ideas how it fix this?
    Thanks

    Hello Me_Again
Welcome to BlackBerry Support Community Forums
Since you got a replacement it the same old Battery you are using or its a new Battery  with your replacement device.Sometime this white Screen or unable to reboot happen because of weak battery .I suggest if you can arrange a good quality Battery then try running your device a few hours to see if the problem is within the device or its just Battery issue.
