Newbie : HD / SD / footage length

Hello
I have finish the editing of the film of the wedding of my daughter.
This film was made with 4 cameras.
1 camera is in 1920 x 1080 29,97 fps
3 cameras are in 1440 x 1080 25 fps
All my sequences are 1920 x 1080 25 fps or 29,97 fps
Now I want to put this footage on a DVD :
- Will I have problem because of the 2 format used ( 1920 x 1080 29,97 fps and 1440 x 1080 25 fps)
- What format do I have to use to export the films ?
- HD or SD ?
Thanks in advance for your help
Best
Cyril
P.S. If I want to share this film on Internet,
- what is the best place ?
- what format ?
- can I share it using what I have done in DVD studio pro

Hello Drew
Many thanks for your long answer, very helpful
You are welcome
All my footage are in PAL, but as my daughter has married an American I have to send for XMAS a NTSC version of the DVD to his family
The PAL version is almost finish. (it contains 6 films and some slide show)
Do I have to convert every film to NTSC or can I convert the DVD in one go
In general, a PAL DVD cannot be directly converted to an NTSC DVD or vice versa, you will need to make a new projects.
On the video side of things (disregarding the slide show for a moment) if you have made one long video in Final Cut, if you export the entire video out from Final Cut you can use Compressor to convert formats from PAL to NTSC. Usually what I do is export as a self contained movie (you can use reference) then in Compressor convert that to NTSC in the same codec then encode again to an NTSC m2v. For the first step (PAL to NTSC) I will use one of the presets - for instance if it was 1080i50 in one codec, I will copy the 1080i60 preset then adjust frame controls to have retiming as better, and most of the other settings to better (not best.) There are some other approaches people use, but I have been pretty happy with the results. Some other threads on the subject [PAL NTSC|http://discussions.apple.com/search.jspa?threadID=&q=PALtoNTSC&objID=c123&dateRange=thisyear&userID=&numResults=15]
On the slideshow side of things, you may be best off by rebuilding in the NTSC project, making sure to scale to proper size. Another option is to build the disc and then using MPEG Streamclip (www.squared5.com) to convert the VOB with the sildeshow to a movie and then convert the movie. Take a look here to see how to find which VOB has the slideshow http://dvdstepbystep.com/vts.php You will in all likelihood lose some quality and functioninality (i.e., if you have pause at each slide), and ultimately in may be easier just to redo the slideshow. Also keep in mind that slideshows sometimes work strangely and then converting the slideshow to a track may provide better results (keeping in mind that the conversion only goes one way, so make a copy of the slideshow before converting, just in case, or exporting the item description) and/or use iPhoto/Motion etc to make a video....
If the films do no go on one DVD, is it possible to have a multiple DVD ?
How do you link ?
Not sure how much video you shot or the length of the movie, but you could use a DL disc
[Making Content Fit|http://dvdstepbystep.com/faqs_7.php] You should be able to get 3-1/2 hours on a DL easily and a Single layer can hold 2 hours (depending on the footage and encode rates) give or take some. Take a look [here|http://dvdstepbystep.com/faqs_3.php] for issues surrounding encoding. For a wedding where there is not that much action (other than dancing) where people are speaking to the camera giving congrats, the wedding service etc, there is alot of low motion sections that should hold up fine with lower rates.
Also keep in mind you will need to set a DL break point [take a look at this thread and links|http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=2206544&#2206544]. Lastly make sure to use good brands of media, o matter which way you go, single or DL. Taiyo Yuden-R are good for SL and Verbatim +R always work well for me on DL.
There is not real way to jump from disc to disc. If the movie is real long at the end you can put a messgae such as put in the other disc to continue viewing, much like you will see two disc sets where they will mention that there is bonus material on the other disc or something.

I am using Premiere Pro CS3
I have a long sequence that I built a generic end tag for and some generic effects to go under title slides. How do I save just those elements for future use in other projects without keeping the entire sequence?
I would like to keep them in their original layout. i. e. End tag has 3 video tracks and 2 audio tracks. I would like to save this section such that when I import it into my next project I will still all 3 video tracks and 2 audio tracks.
    Is this possible?
    Ila

Make a copy of this project. Open the copy and delete everything that you
don't want to save. Now you can import this project file into future projects with the tracks the way you want.
You will also find links to many
free tutorials in the PremiereProPedia that will quickly show you how things are done in Premiere Pro.
    Cheers

  • Premiere Pro CS 5.5 can't do a simple cross dissolve with MPE enabled?

When adding cross dissolves to a project that I'm working on, I've come across an odd problem. I say odd because this should be dirt simple, but Adobe seems to have messed this up. Please advise on any solution or work around, or perhaps simply see if you can recreate the issue so we can get Adobe to fix this.
    Problem:
Cross dissolves transitions don't seem to work consistently in cs 5.5. Note: I know how transitions work, and I'm not doing something stupid like trying to apply a transition to a cut without actually removing any video between the two clips (assuming the clips came from the same source video.). I'm able to recreate this issue on two different systems with premiere pro cs 5.5 by doing the follwing:
Create a new project and and sequence with the default settings.
Enable the Mercury Playback Engine if it isn't already enabled.
I import the Wildlife.wmv video that comes default with Windows 7 systems.
Drop it the video into the sequence.
Ripple delete about a 2 second section of the video. be sure to do this in the first half of the video, and make sure the the video changes the scene during this period so that you will notice the cross dissolve transition when it is applied.
Apply the default cross dissolve transition to the edit.
Review the edit. For my test, this edit always seems to work fine.
This is a screen capture of the working cross dissolve transition.
Now let me show you what happens when I do a similar edit somewhere in the second half of the video clip.
As you can see, for the duration of the transition, only the clip to the left is shown. At the end of the transition effect the program out preview jumps to displaying the clip to the right. There is no transition.
    Additional notes:
This second transition works fine with MPE disabled, but because if of my other problem http://forums.adobe.com/message/3725642 that I have with MPE disable it is not a viable work around.
    Help?

I too am experiencing this issue.  AVCHD footage, GPU Acceleration, trying to apply a cross dissolve, and instead it randomly seems to see it as a simple cut.  The Cross Dissolve is simply ignored... Adjusting the footage length, removing the CDissolve, re-rendering, etc. have no effect.  For whatever reason, in that specific location on the timeline, a cross dissolve with GPU acceleration is impossible.  Yet, in other sections of the timeline, it is just fine.
(The Fast Blur trick mentioned above worked (Thank you!) however, when I changed my playback resolution on the screen display, that broke the fix.  Deleting the fast blur, and applying it to the clip on the other side of the cross dissolve, re-enabled the work around)
I also see an issue when a clip changes in the timeline, (cut from one piece of footage, to another) the video will begin to studder, dropping frames.  Framerate seems to drop to about 2fps.  To get smooth playback back, I have to pause and resume the playback.  Even if this is done very very rapidly, it still fixes the playback issue.  it's just really annoying to have to constantly stop and resume playback everytime a video clip changes in the timeline.
I have a dedicated hard drive for video, and a dedicated mirrored array for the OS.  the video drive is a 7200rpm SATAII drive, and I'm using AVCHD footage.  I really don't think it's a disk speed issue... particularly as pausing and resuming (even if you do it as fast as you can possibly hit the keys) fixes it.  I'd rather not spend the $ to set up a RAID 10 for video, if I can avoid it and particularly if it's not needed.

  • How can i set each still image to show for 1 frame?

im trying to create a 60fps timelapse but i just can't get each image to show for less than 2 frames, i've gone to edit>preferences>import and set the still footage length to 0:00:00:01. and i've set the sequence footage to 60fps(although i'm not positive what this does)
i then bring my photos down to create new composition set it to 0:00:00:01 still duration and then each photo shows for 2 frames, any ideas?
    thanks a lot!

If you import a single frame as an image sequence it will be 2 frames long.
If you import an image sequence as an image sequence you won't be able to see the individual frames in the timeline as being 2 frames long. However, if your composition is set to 60 fps and the image sequence is interpreted as 30 fps, when you step through the footage there will be pairs of identical frames. Change the interpretation to 60 fps and the image sequence will be half as long but each frame will be unique.

  • Importing AVCHD

Just bought a Canon HF R10 and imported into iMovie. Been shooting at the highest quality (FXP, or something like that), and still struggling to get a quality DVD burned, but my first question is about the import.
    1. Our use is home movies which will be burned to DVDs. We have 2 hi-def TVs, but don't even have a blu-ray machine yet. I tend to import things in highest quality (which is "full" in this case) just to keep my options open. But is this silly for home DVDs? Should I just use "large"? Opinions on this appreciated.
    2. I notice that iMovie converts the AVCHD into quicktime (not sure if it's AIC or H.265) upon import. Great, it then works with iMovie! As for quality, are there views as to whether this conversion is being done well? Or should I consider an alternate converter outside of iMovie?
Bottom line is that I'd like to have excellent video quality, even if they're just our silly home videos.

I'm not an authority on the subject, but I've run into similar issues with Canon HF 20, AVCHD files, MXP or FXP (highest 1920x1080 quality modes of the camera) and iMovie 08.
My camera is recognized by iMovie, and imports the files, which iMovie will always (to my knowledge) bring in as AIC format (Apple Int. Codec). Supposedly this is necessary for iMovie to be able to do all the editing. This process will also bloat up the file sizes massively. Example... a 47 MB file on the camera will become 221 MB or more in AIC after iMovie pulls it in (using the "original" 1920x1080 import setting). This also takes roughly twice the footage length in time to convert. Also, importing MXP and FXP resulted in almost the same final file size once iMovie put it into AIC format, so might as well use MXP on the camera for the best quality.
Using "large" mode (960x540) for importing into iMovie took roughly real time (40 sec for a 38 sec clip), and keep the file size down (115 MB clip on camera became 134 MB clip on the computer after iMovie imported into "large" format).
However, all of my AVCHD clips imported into iMovie using "large" format import all had a "sped up" feel when playing it back. Very odd. Just like the fight scenes in Russell Crows' Gladiator movie. It was very subtle, but still noticeable. I don't know what the differences between iMovie 08 and 09 are for all this, but perhaps iMovie 09 can fix the "sped up" issue.
As for burning to DVDs, I haven't gotten that far yet, but I think I've read there are some hoops to jump through.
In my research, one person suggested the software from:
    http://shedworx.com
The FlamingoHD is suppose to store AVCHD imported movies in their native format and functions as a library. However, it took forever to build it's "filmstrip" for me, whatever that is (I still don't know). And I could not figure out how to simply play the clips from this program.
VoltaicHD is suppose to let you convert/share your AVCHD movies, and RevolverHD is suppose to let you disk burn HD. I haven't used either of them.
FYI, from what I've been told, converting from AVCHD to MP4 h.264, even with a high bitrate, will offer superb quality with relatively small file sizes, but there will be quality loss. So it's best to keep the conversions to a minimum. I ran into this question with the idea of converting AVCHD into something iMovie could recognize.
I'm not sure how iMovie AIC is compared to this, but I suspect it's similar. Almost the same quality, but there might be loss, since it is a conversion. To my knowledge, even Final Cut Express uses AIC, and Final Cut Pro uses its own format, but it still converts it from AVCHD to something else.
If you are looking to simply PLAY the AVCHD files in their native format on the Mac, I uncovered a great little utility called MOVIST that can do it:
    http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/27642/movist
If you are looking to convert AVCHD files into something even easier to play on Mac (rather than the MOVIST route), you can use ClipWrap utility to convert them into DV format (stan.def.). This would simply be for viewing on your computer, not for editing for high quality burning. ClipWrap can rewrap AVCHD into MOV too, but it didn't work well for me.
Finally, iMovie has some issues with interlacing, but I haven't read up on it yet. I get the impression it drops video information.
I have not read this eBook yet, but seems like people are recommending it to cover all these issues:
    http://www.mindspring.com/~d-v-c/page1/page1.html
The final solution might be to use software that works with AVCHD files natively. The only inexpensive (cough, if you call it that) one I know of is the $800 (or $299 upgrade) Premiere Pro Creative Suite 5 coming out in May. No transcoding or rewrapping. Just raw AVCHD goodness.
My hope is that iMovie 10 will be AVCHD native, but I doubt it.
One thing to note is that AVCHD is native to Windows 7. So you could setup Win7 on Boot Camp and use a PC program to edit (premiere elements 8, etc.) then put the final products on your Mac side for playback.

  • Importing AVCHD: iMovie vs. Voltaic HD

I'm going to use a new HDD-based camcorder (those who read my previous topics will know why I - or rather someone else - chose HDD over tape). I've narrowed down my choice between a "basic" standard definition model, and a choice of more expensive high-def. models which feature optical image stabilization and take nice still pictures. Since they're HDD-based, they record in AVCHD.
I've been recently given a 10 s. sample of AVCHD video which I converted using Voltaic HD, but it took about 2 minutes (and I can consistently reproduce this time when converting it again) on my 2.2 GHz MBP. This is far from what I've read here when importing with iMovie '08 (which seems to take about twice as long as the actual footage length, and not ten times).
For those who own and use an AVCHD camcorder with iMovie '08 (and possibly Voltaic as well), how long does it usually take you to import footage with iMovie? With Voltaic?
Do you think (or know from personal experience), importing with Voltaic would be faster when importing larger clips, or do I really have to expect it taking ten times as long as the footage to import AVCHD?

I used "Voltaic" to test a short sequence recorded with a Panasonic AVCHD SD5 camcorder - to see what the quality was like before buying the camera, and before buying an Intel Mac to go with it.
Like Appleman's ..that camcorder shoots on SD (..or SDHC..) memory chips, not a hard disc.
Actually, that's what my sample came from (an SD5, or possibly an SD9).
I was disappointed with the results - though that might have been because I didn't choose some settings correctly - because although normal zooms and pans and static material looked OK, fast-moving material (..e.g; a train passing by..) seemed to have its fields reversed or overlaid, with an annoyingly imprecise location of vertical edges, and strong "comb" effects on moving edges ..as if the interlaced fields had been de-interlaced and then doubled to make Voltaic's frames (..this was using PAL video at 'full' 1920x1080i).
I'm not sure I understand all of that, but I was also disappointed with Voltaic's results on fast-moving objects (there wre two in the sample clip). Overall quality was very good though, and once the footage was converted from AIC to DV, the problem was less noticeable.
P.S: ..You say "..it took about 2 minutes (and I can consistently reproduce this time when converting it again) on my 2.2 GHz MBP.."
On Voltaic's website FAQs (..scroll down about halfway..) they show:
"How long does the conversion take?
This depends on your machine, but as a guide, on a 2.0 GHz MacBookPro with 2Gb of RAM, a 10 second AVCHD clip takes about 2 minutes to convert. In other words, it takes about 12 times as long as the original footage to convert the clip."
Thanks. That settles it. 12x is way to slow, and while iMovie can apparently import the footage faster, I want to keep the ability to transfer the footage from the camcorder's HDD to my drive and convert it later. So, AVCHD is not for me yet.

  • Very slow render on my beast of a machine

Hello, I have an issue whereby my rendering is very slow. I am using premier elements 12 with a windows 8.1 computer that has an 8-core amd 8350 processor, 8 gbs of ram, and I have an AMD 7970 6gb video card crossfired with an AMD 280x video card. Crossfire probably doesnt even work, but even with just the 280x, it should be faster than this.
I capture game footage, which is captured in xvid format, which I then import into PE12. I don't add any effects, other than some color tweaking, and some brightness/contrast tweaking. Then I export it in the same specifications it was captured in (1080p 30fps). A 7 minute video takes about 20 minutes to render/export using MP4 codec. If I try to use other codecs, it takes even longer. On my Mac Pro, using other programs like iMovie, this sake video would take like 2 minutes, and it only has a 4-core processor at a much slower clock speed, and only has a 6870 amd video card, which is like 1/4 the power. I feel that either the 8-cores aren't being used, or something else is wrong. No rendering that doesn't involve complicated effects should take longer to render than the footage length is. If the video is 10 minutes long, it should take 1 minute to render if it doesn't have chroma keying or anything heavy like that. How do I fix this?

Thanks for the tip. Bandicam already works when I choose "motion jpeg", and it works very nicely as far as being able to record in very high quality without disrupting my gaming performance. The issue is that it still takes longet to render a video than the length of the video itself. So a 6 minute clip, for example, will take about 15-20 minutes. This is unacceptable when ther are no major effects going on, such as chromakeying. I should be able to render atleast at speed play (ie, if a video is 2 minutes, it should take no more than 2 minutes), based on performance I get on my lesser Mac with a lesser CPU, lesser video card etc. It may be the rendering settings. I am using the stock "youtube widescreen HD" preset in PE12, and i manually change teh 720p to 1080p (like my footage). What else can I try?
The only thing I can think of is that PE12 doesnt use 8 cpu cores, or it doesnt use OpenCL. Does it? I cannot find any settings in PE12 for "enable multicore processing" or "enable openCL" etc.

  • Create change lists for HDCAM project without Cinema Tools?

    Hi
We have an HD project, shot on video, and are getting to final stages of mixing. Is there way to set a version, and then make changes and generate a change list? Needless to say, we haven't been using Cinema Tools (and the Export Change List process asks us to select a CT database). Is this only possible for film projects?
    Thanks!
    Matt

    Actually, I figured it out.
    1) Open Cinema Tools and create a new, blank database. Remember its name and where you saved it.
    2) Open your original sequence in FCP. Go to FIle - Export - Cinema Tools Film Lists. If it's a video project, you can ignore the film-specific fields (footage length, key numbers and the like), but make sure that "Save a Cinema Tools program file" is ticked. In the columns on the right, I have "Time", "Source Time" and "Clip name" added. When prompted, locate your database file.
    3) Export the file.
    4) Now, open the changed sequence in FCP. Go to File - Export - Cinema Tools Change List. Locate the Cinema Tools program file you saved earlier.
You can select "Combine deletions" if you don't want to see separate edits across a multi-clip deletion. (ie, trim tail, delete clip, delete clip, trim head).
The first few pages will probably be most useful for video projects, since they use timecodes; the other sections of the report seem to be based on key codes.

  • Compression Advice

I have some lectures that consist of someone standing at the front of a room in front of a static background, though the person is using her arms to sign and interpret narrated spoken word. The video will be compressed as Mpg2 and be brought into DVDSP. I tried compressing at different presets, and can not really the difference, though I am concerned that it might appear and sound different on different computers, players, etc. I am also new to this and have an untrained eye and ears.
What presets would you recommend using for a project like this based on the video and audio I am using.
    Thanks!

the best way to know how it'll look is watch it up close on a really big TV (but not one that scales regular SD up to HD sizes, because that will almost always look bad anyway, and you won't know what you're really dealing with).
Generally though, I usually use the 2 pass vbr (high quality) preset that's the closest to my footage length, and if I am using footage shorter than 60 min, I make a new preset and bump the 60 min bit rate up a bit just for good measure.

  • HD Encoding

I am encoding from 10 bit uncompressed 1080i HD. The footage length is 55 min. I am interested is finding out what the settings are for the best quality HD encode, using compressor 2 and DVD Studio 4.

    hello BBP/BR
if i am not mistaken, DVDSP 4 only lets you import 720p material.
when i did tests on 100i i always had to down-convert to 720p to able to import it into DVDSP.
also, are you using the advance conversions tab in compressor. they have some really nice presets that can help you start going in the direction you want.
be warned.. like everyone is saying, and i have also experienced.. encoding times are unbearable, but that's the nature of HD material. shoot, i have a turn-key system that i use for othe rmaterial for HD delivery, and it is hardware based and that is even slow!
so guys.. be nice to apple
    anyway,hope that helps

  • Workaround? - Using Interpret Footage AME renders active content only for original movie length

I submitted a bug on this behavior, but I am hoping that someone has found a workaround or maybe I am just using Interpret Footage incorrectly.
    Here is the problem:
    1. Import 20 second long 23.976fps source file into AME
    2. Right-click item in Queue and choose Interpret Footage
    3. Choose "Assume this frame rate:" and set to 18fps - Duration will update as expected to 0:00:26;19
    Results:
Output file will have correctly re-timed active content up to 0:00:20;00 and then hold that frame (which correctly corresponds to 0:00:15;00 from the source file) to the end of the file at 0:00:26;18
    Expected results:
Output file should contain the full content of the source file re-timed for the new duration.
NOTE: This behavior will also be apparent in the Export settings Preview window prior to encoding.
    Mac OSX 10.7.5
    AME: 6.0.2.81 (64-bit)

We are actually generating the files ourselves and keeping them 23.976fps (or 25fps for PAL-country clients). We're interpreting the incoming 23.976fps file as 18fps because that is the speed at which it was shot. Super-8 sound film like most other sound film was 'supposed' to be shot / projected at 24fps, but many shooters used 18fps to get more time out of a 50-foot camera load. Our company provides 24p (or 25p) files to clients, and in addition to providing 1 to 1 representations of their film at 23.976fps, we also provide 24p files with duplicate frames inserted so they are easy to work with in NLEs, yet approximate the correct motion for material that was shot at 12, 14, 16, 18 or 20 fps. Our Apple Compressor workflow works great for the 90+% of material that is silent or is sound film shot at 24fps. We would experiment with moving the entire speed-correction workflow to AME if it solved the 18in24 sound problem, and it _almost_ does. The behavior I described is obviously a bug and not 'works as intended' - it will then be a question of whether such an outside use case gets any attention. If I can come up with another use case that would be more popular, then I might get more visibility for the bug. I suppose that some may wish to batch out 24p files from 25p files using the same technique. That is, throw a pile of 25p files into AME, interpret them as 23.976 and write them out to 24p files. I would expect that the last 4% of those files would show a freeze frame...

    Hi Folks,
I'm such a newbie to DW   I've been using it for a few years actually, but in a very basic sense.
I dloaded a template, added some graphics, made some buttons etc.. and of course text, but when it comes to coding,
I've only figure out how to add spaces  lol
I'm trying to add a flash video to my samples page.  I can add images, but every time I add the .flv, I receive the subject message.
    So here are 2 issues:
    1. I don't know if this related to #2, but I can't erase the 3rd column...or even use it. it's locked - I see a circle with a line through it.  The template I bought did say it was 3 columns, but I don't understand why I can't touch it.  I've attached a tiff of what it looks like right now.
    2. as the subject says "changing code is locked by the template is locked a template or translator" is giving me grief.
I've reviewed the previous posts on the subject, but I'm afraid my newbie-ness has left me not knowing what to do.  ie. I can't find a time/date to change...I see the <head> and <script>, but they're greyed out on the one page I'm trying to edit.  They're not greyed out on the template page however.
I also tried saving my .dwt as a new template, but that didn't work either.
Here is code for my Samples page.  I'll post the code for the template page under that.
    <html><!-- #BeginTemplate "/Templates/Main2.dwt" --><!-- DW6 -->

    thanks for the quick reply!
I found the 2 things to change, but when I go back to my page...everything is gone!  eek
(fear no panic - I did back up my website prior to making any changes
    (file attached).
it looks like there is only 1 column instead of 3 sections. I was hoping to lose just the one on the right.
here is the new code from my Samples page (not the template)  I"ll post that below.

  • How to deal with huge old stockpile of footage ala "Mr. Brainwash"??

Total newbie who is feeling a little stuck, and could really use some help dealing with a "video hoarding paralysis"...
Here's what I've got: about 250gb of clips, covering a span of 5 years and a dozen main projects.
I did all of the original uploading to iMovie on an old MBP, and made some quick youtube videos with some of the stuff.
I now have all those iMovie events and projects on an external HD, with a new(er) 2012 iMac, and considering what to do next.
=> Possibly migrate over here to FCP, and start working with somebody more skilled with the editing process, towards a final cut or short series of edits, featuring all my past work. A showreel sort of thing.
For those who have seen the film, I guess its similar to Thierry Guetta aka "Mr Brainwash" in Exit Through The Giftshop-- the way he kept stockpiling years of footage of street artists (then just sitting on it)... until Banksy came along and patched it together for the full-length documentary.
Anyways, I'm looking for help/suggestions/anything to get going on this. I'd like to try and clean up all my clips and get them well-organized, or in a presentable enough state, to then share with a skilled editor and eventually do something more professional with it.
Suggestions on where to begin would be really helpful right now. Thanks for reading.

may be a bit abstract what I'm telling now… but I try anyhow:
    • when you import from a SDcard (or back-up of a SDcard) you can select what to import, what not; for 'files' FCPX doesn't give this option, you have to use this handy tool
    http://www.spherico.com/filmtools/X-Files/VirtualCameraCard.dmg
which 'converts' files into 'cameras' …
Hint #1 => if you know what to keep and what not, import smart!
    • use paper&pencil: What in the end should the final project look like? What highlights? What makes a clip special, that is allowed to be part of that Project? Write down criteria.
Hint #2 => work backwards, from final project to keywords
    • in FCPX you can apply keywords to a clip, part of a clip, several keywords for one clip, overlapping 'zones' of keywords;
Hint #3 => don't think in shallow 'drawers' (one clip = jst one folder; tags are much smarter)
    • then, FCPX creates automatically 'playlists' - if one of your keywords is 'Interviews', click on corresponding playlist - tadahh!
Hint #3 => learn to use FCPX mighty 'data-base features', invest 20$ into Lessons for FCPX << link to AppStore
    • FCPX allows to create smart-lists - combine criteria, e.g. "outdoor + interviews" to filter clips.
HInt #3 => no need to organize manually; FCPX is faster than you
So, it's all about organizing the clips; here, pro Michael Graber explains his sorting schemes

… and 250 GBs isn' that much
