Newbie K8N Diamond and 4400+ DUal core

Hi
I recently put together a k8n diamond and a dual core 4400+ processor. SInce i am no so fluent with voltages etc... I tried running the Ntune "performance Tuning wizard". Whereas all the other utilities work fine .. this just does not run.... if i click nothing happens (like a dead link icon)....
I reinstalled, redownloaded etc.... several times... anyone have a solution ?
Is there alternative software that can optimally configure my memory voltage, cpu voltage, FSB etc.....
My system is slightly unstable and crashed sometimes at the moment.
Another thing i noticed is that my HD (Seagate 80GB SATA - ST380817AS) is showing on secondary channel (hardware, device manager, IDE/ATA COntroller, properties.... with  theoretical  burst 10Mb/s  burst 113Mb/s  sustained 59Mb/s)...is this right ?
Thanks for your help
Matteo

Wow MatteoB, youve got a bunch of issues going on there...
-First off, try to keep posts to one issue, the ntune, the system instability, the hard drive problem, its hard to respond to-
-Please put all your system components in your signature, it's basically the first item in the new members to do list, suprised the moderators didn't snipe your for that, but most folks probably just passed by due to the first problem-
+The nTune Performace Tuning Wizard and the Profile Module does not work with dual core cpu's (i've only unoffically confirmed this with a handful of others), however you can manually change some settings in the Adjust settings screen+
++If your system is unstable at stock default settings and speed, you need to fix this the old fashioned way, ntune does not do this for you++
The hard drive problem sounds like it can be fixed, but again a remedy for system crashing should be your #1 priority as it may be tied to the hdd.
Make a signature file with your system components and elaborate on what is happening on the computer when it crashes and I am sure you will get a lot of responses.

    Hi, i have K8N Diamond and i can't enable sil3132 controller in the bios ... because there isn't a settings !!!
I know, it seems to be amazing, but it's true, it doesn't appear the setting of onboard Sil3132 RAID chip, i can't watch the Setting options: [Enabled], [Disabled] and mode settings [SATA], [RAID]. under INTEGRATED PERIPHERALS > ONBOARD DEVICE.
I never watch the screen on Sil3132 bios !! ad i never enter on it with F4 or CTRL+S key.
I'm testing all version on Diamond Bios from 1.0 to 1.6 but no one can show me the  Sil3132 settings.
    What's up? it's amazing ... i think that Sil3132 is damaged ...
    Someone can help me?

  • Original 22" Cinema Display and G5 Dual-Core Machine

    Good Morning, All!
Is there a special adapter or converter I need to run my old 22" Cinema Display on my G5? I had to go back to the Dr. Bot I had when I had the monitor on a G4 450. With the arrival of the G4 933, I was happily able to do away with the Dr. Bot "octopus" and take full advantage of all the display on-board stuff (power switch, USB ports, etc.) However, the new dual-core has forced me back to that friggin' Dr. Bot, even though the G5 books says it's ready for ALL Cinema displays. Well, obviously not mine.
A part number and a place to purchase would be most appreciated!!! I got spoiled to the power switch on the monitor. It was really rather dumb for Apple to put a metal start-up button on the front panel of the G5. With the air as dry as it is right now, the static is horrible and I don't like giving the machine a jolt when I started up in the morning. I find myself having to ground to something before I ever touch the machine these days.

    Hi,
Well I have just bought a Quad G5 that I was gonna
use with my old DVI equipped 22in Cinema Display and
now discover that the connector on the display has
more pins than the connector on the video card. How
am I supposed to get around that?!
Are you sure the display is DVI (screw knobs), and not ADC (clips)?
If it is DVI and has six round pins (2 X 3) in the middle that are not on the video card connector, the extra pins are for dual link, which is only used on the 30" display. Depending on which video card you have, one or both connectors may be dual link, but you don't need the extra pins for the 22" display.

  • K8N DIAMOND and MAXTOR 200Gb ATA size problem

Hi all forum! i´m new here. I have a MSI K8N DIAMOND SLI board, all is ok but the Maxtor DiamondMax Plus 9 200gb is only 33gb in the Bios and in Windows XP SP2. The Jummpers are fine and i chaged it for all positions and the result was the same.
And in the Maxtor page it says
    https://maxtor.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/maxtor.cfg/php/enduser/olh_adp.php?p_faqid=1062&p_sid=3mOkRPXh&p_lva=#
The Solution 1: I reformated the hard drive severals times and the same result :(
The Solution 2: I have de newer official bios 1.7
The Solution 3. I have formateated with ntfs
I don´t know how resolve this problem, thanks for your time reading my post and sorry for my bad grammar.
    See You!

On K8N Diamond the Sil3132 is a Raid5 controller. You can only install Raid5 driver (SataLink and SataRaid drivers don't work, only SataRaid5).
Use the latest driver version 1.2.3.1. You can download it from MSI.
If you don't use Raid, then you must go into the Silicon Image bios setup utility (CTRL+S or F4, when displayed) and set for each drive a JBOD array (Create Array -> JBOD).
(On newer bios JBOD has changed to CONCATENATION.)

    - Removed the MB from the chassi and put it on cardboard with only CPU and PCI-E card on power
    - Removed one memory stick
    - Tried with second memory stick in different position
Nothing happens.  The fans are spinning on the CPU but no POST. I though it was lack of power so I bought
the Tagan PSU which was the biggest I could find, but it did not help.
Is there problems with the BIOS and FX-55 that I should know about? Or is it the MB that could be dead?
Hope someone could help me. I did not miss the 4-pin connector for power the CPU.
    Many thanks in advance.

    Hello,
I also had a K8N Diamond board with the same problems you are listing here.
In the end, I had to get it exchanged by another one. The one I got then
was the K8N SLI Platinum (also MS-7100 Ver. 1.0)
It has most of the features included on the K8N Diamond, except the following:
Sillicon Image SiL Serial ATA Controller Chip and SATA ports 5 and 6 : Gone.
Marvell Yukon LAN Controller Chip and Second RJ-45 Ethernet port  : Gone.
Voltage Regulartor Active MOS Fan : Gone.
IEEE 1394 Firewire Bracket            : Gone.
K8N "Diamond" Full Screen Logo     : Replaced by K8N SLI "Platinum" Full Screen Logo.
About all other features included in the K8N Diamond mainboard (MS-7100, Ver. 1.0)
Active MOS Fan Connector                      : Still there and functional. You can plug a compatible fan there, to cool down the Voltage Regulator, if you want.
Creative Sound Blaster Live! 24 Bit            : Yes, and complete with all audio ports, including Optical and Coaxial plugs for 7.1 Ch audio.
Back I/O IEEE 1394 FireWire Port             : Yes
On Board IEEE 1394 FireWire Connectors  : Yes
    D-Bracket 2                                           : Included in the box.
10 USB 2.0 Ports                                   : Yes. 4 on back I/O, 2 on D-Bracket 2, 2 for Case USB 2.0 Ports, 2 for internal use or additional back USB 2.0 bracket.
which can be an MSI USB 2.0 Bracket, a Modified MSI D-Bracket 2, or a USB 2.0 bracket, from Belkin or any other
brand, or a generic USB 2.0 Certified bracket.
Everything else is on this board, is exactly the same as with the MSI K8N Diamond. My advice for you is to get your MSI K8N Diamond exchanged by an MSI K8N SLI Platinum. Beleive me, this board doesn't have the problems most K8N Diamond users are having, and for me who once had the K8N Diamond mainboard, it is the best alternative comming from MSI. It's the same model, but without the extras I mentioned above.
    I highly recomend this one

  • P6NGM and MSI Dual Core Center - can't change FSB

I'm running Vista Business 32.  Just installed a P6NGM with a E6750 and updated all the MSI utilities to current version - but I can't change the FSB anywhere. I can't click the "D.O.T." button on the main menu, and there are no arrows near it. In the advanced screen, the FSB +/- buttons are grayed out.   How do I enable its FSB overclocking?
    Thanks

Are you using the latest Version of DCC?
    http://global.msi.com.tw/index.php?func=downloaddetail&type=utility&maincat_no=1&prod_no=1330
I downloaded and installed this version -- but, as the tool does not appear to have an "About" box that gives its version, I can't really confirm that it is indeed the latest one.

  • 64bit and multiprocessor / dual core

(This message was already posted in te JRE forum where it may have been at the wrong place.)
    Hello
I'm investigating on Java2SE 64Bit and multiprocesssor support but I didn't find explicit and recent articles. I'm explicitely interested to know what gain in performance I could expect for Java.
Does anybody can give me a link to articles treating those subjects? I'm interested in the following topics:
    - Current support of Java for 64bit and multiprocessor
    - How to benefit from 64bit/multiprocessor enhancements in Java
    - Restrictions
Thank you in advance for anly link
    Yves

Depends on which jvm's there are that support 64 bit processors. I only have experience with a jvm for AIX (IBM) 64 bit OS. I saw the following advantages and disappointments:
    * Could allocate 3.4 GB instead of just 1.6-1.8 GB - but I had expected more than that.
    * Saw no performance gain in our applications.
I have used multiprocessors for a Red Hat Linux installation. Our application in Java nearly doubled the speed of it's execution - there didn't seem to be any strange bottlenecks, but the processors could be fully used.

  • MSI K8N Diamond is AMD X2 Compatible?

    Hi,
As you will have gathered, I am enquiring about if the MSI K8N Diamond supports AMD dual core CPU's?
    Thanks!

Make sure that if you manually flashed your BIOS, reboot a couple of times in different manner so that the motherboard properly detects your dualcore configuration.
I do not know if this happens to Diamond range but it does happen on mine whereby sometimes at different startup methods (for the BIOS of course) it only detects one CPU even though it says on the CPU ID that its X2 (obviously dualcore). Refer to my sig if you don't know about my motherboard

  • "K8N Neo4" dual core? NOT Neo4-F or platinum or SLI

I have a K8N Neo4. <- period.  msi seems conveniently to have forgotten about this model, it doesn't show up on their site at all.  literally a week after I bought it, it looked like they repackaged it and put a "dual core ready" sticker on it.
just wondering if the F model was just a bios update, or if they're just pretending that a single core limited version of the neo4 never existed.
    thanks
P.S. I tried to search for the answer before I posted, but all I found was people talking about their F or Platinum series and the dual cores they have in them.

Quote from: arpheztwig on 23-December-07, 02:39:41
well, the box didn't say it was an -F, and the box didn't say it was dual core ready, is it still possible it's the black?
does anyone know for sure that it ISN'T dual core ready?  otherwise I'm going to assume that it is and buy a new processor, I'll let you know what happens.
"F" usually is not written. You must have this one---> K8N Neo4-F (PCB 1.0) in Black PCB, but if its somethink else from possibilities like K8N Neo4 Platinum (PCB 1.0) or K8N Neo4-FI (PCB 1.0) it doesn't matter, all boards support dual core CPU and shares same BIOS in same time.

  • Neo Platinum and K8n Diamond

, is all this Noe Platinum stuff
i got a K8N Diamond , and i've seen peple say that the Neo Platinum is untoched by it?
is this true, if so,  how  and why?

    hahahahahahaha!
difference is just that the Diamond comes with a Wifi 802.11G card w/ Bluetooth. in some regions (like where im from), the Diamond also has an actively cooled heatpipe for the mosfets. the SLI Platinum doesnt.
i have however seen a review of an SLI Platinum with actively cooled heatpipe so it really depends on the region. its the Wifi + Bluetooth card that is the main difference afaik
also, you are a member of the Diamond club and get this nifty little credit card type thingy which you can use to join MSI's online Diamond club.
does that answer your question? please dont swear at me!

  • Tips for my K8N Diamond Plus

so although i have been into hardware for awhile now i have never really been a big OC'er.  it was never something i really wanted to do since i work my arse off to get my hardware.  my buddy recently OC'ed his micro-ATX board with his AMD 3700+ from 2.2 to 2.9 on a stock heatsink and he is sitting stable.  this got me thinking and wanting to try out a bit of OC'ing just to see what i am able to push my system until i upgrade from my current CPU to a new 4400+ dual core.  so here is my system and im just looking for tips/a quick walkthrough of what i need to tweak to OC my box and keep it stable.
CPU: AMD 3500+ 939-socket, Newcastle core stock at 2.2ghz
MoBo: MSI K8N Diamond Plus with the 3.09 BIOS
RAM: 2x1gig sticks of PQI Turbo 400mhz/PC3200 timings of 3-4-4-7
    PSU: Sunbeam 550watt SLI certified
    Video Cards: 2x eVGA 7900gt's SLI'ed
that is basicly the big stuff, i have  a X-FI soundcard and all SATA HDD's and stuff but that stuff doesnt really matter too much when it comes to OC'ing.  anyways, im just looking for directions on what i should set my stuff to.  if you could also through in a run down of how HT, the multiplier, my FSB, and the DRAM/FSB settings affect each other i would really appreciate it.
basicly all i would need is something like this for my settings:
    multiplier:
    vcore:
    FSB:
    DRAM/FSB:
    mem timings:
    HT settings:
and anything else i have left out.
again, i would really appreciate the help.

    k8n diamond plus doesn't have a 3.09 BIOS.
so iostream, please make sure that you get the details correctly.

  • Just built a K8N Diamond system with Silverstone Zeus 650w PSU - wont boot

    Hi
I just built a system with a K8N Diamond and a Silverstone 650w PSU. When I turn on the PSU i get a "thumping" sound from it for a short while and a green light on the back panel of the pc case. No fans or anything else starts to run. I have connected both cables to the mainboard from the PSU, and everything else, gfx, harddrive and so on. Any suggestions?
Correction: I have not connected any of the cables with power swith, leds and so on..

    1 x MSI K8N Diamond
2 x Gainward 6800 Ultras in SLI mode
    1 x WDD Raptor S-ATA
    1 x keyboard
2x256mb Corsair dual channel ram in the green slots
I have connected both cables to the mainboard to power it up, and the cpu fan and a case fan. I have not connected the series of cables with hdd led, power switch and so on..
When i turn on the psu i get a "thumping" sound.. a strange sound i havent heard from any psus before. and the only activity i get from the mainboard is the green light for a short while when i turned on the psu. *frustrated*

  • K8N Diamond shutting down with FX-57

    Hi all,
My water cooling solution suffered a water pump failure which in turn led my comp to shut down after hitting the heat safety ceiling of 60deg. I replaced the water pump, turned back on only get CMOS checksum errors. I tried to enter BIOS setup but the system would not enter the setup, instead just displaying a flashing underscore immediately after the SilRAID startup screen. I reset the BIOS via the SW1 Clear CMOS button and also by disconnecting power and removing the battery. Neither did any good. I then reflashed the BIOS to v1.8. Flash was succesful but still could not enter BIOS setup. I need to get in there because I run a RAID0 array off the Nvidia RAID controller which needs to be configured within the BIOS.
I presumed the mobo was damaged during the cooling failure so tried using another K8N Diamond from another computer. After turning on the comp, it promptly shut down after around 15 seconds, never making to attempting a load of the OS. The more I tried to turn it on, the quicker it would shut down to the point where it would shut down after 2-3 seconds. I thought something was overheating so checked all fans, replaced the water cooling with the stock AMD cooler, left it to cool for hours - it still shut down within seconds.
I feared that perhaps the CPU was damaged when the cooler failed so I tried to swap the CPU's from the problem computer and another computer. Both the FX-57 from the problem comp and the FX-53 from my other comp ran fine on the other's mobo, managing to complete benchmarking / run games / stay on overnight. So the CPU was fine.
I thought it was simply that the second K8N Diamond just didn't get along with FX-57, for whatever reason, maybe just those two particular components were not working seeing as I had no problem with the original K8N Diamond staying powered. So I bought a brand new K8N Diamond, installed, powered on - same problem!!! Computer shuts off in less than 5 seconds again...
I tried alternative PSU's (Silverstone 600w and Thermaltake 680w), two vid cards (each of my 7800GTX 512's), diff memory (Corsair 2-2-2-5 and OCZ EL  Dual Channel Platinum Elite), stock cooler / water cooler, with and without HD's connected / powered. Even tried booting with just the CPU, CPU cooler and graphics card plugged in and drawing power - still shuts down in 3 seconds.
I'm at a loss to explain this and not to mention extremely frustrated. The computer ran fine for 3 months, staying powered 24 / 7 but after the cooling failure, I can't even get it to boot on 3 different K8N Diamonds and all different components. Yet an FX-53 in any of them works fine, and the FX-57 on another motherboard is fine.
After all that, does anybody have any ideas / suggestions? Any help would really be appreciated. Otherwise I'm off to buy my 3rd! () motherboard for this comp, and after all this hassle, it won't be an MSI should it come to that. Sad because before this, I had a good experience with MSI.
Thanks in advance for any help...

OK you tried a different MB, CPU and RAM... What else did you have in the system when it failed that you haven't swapped out? The Vid card maybe.
If the board works with an FX 53 and not the FX 57 that would lead me to think right off that the chiop was cooked. Yet if it works in another rig then that scraps that idea. And it sounds like you chasing your tail in these other items as well. My first thought would also be a PSU and maybe the one you swapped in was not heavy enough to handle the load. You did not say so that is also suspect.
You may have to use that second rig as a temporary testbed to check each part out until you find what failed as well. You may have messed up more than one part and you could chase yourself forever trying stuff in the machine that dropped the pump.

There are many other Apps out there that could do the job of DualCore Center.
i know , i unable to use dual core, i can't says i like it. it's just a little question , no need to worry
