Newbie looking for advice on spry tabbed panels for record view/add/edit

I have just got CS 5.5. Although old hand at IT this is fist use of DW. Have been through "The Missing Manual" and I am now trying somethings out.
I have an SQL DB and some "management" tables. I thought that in the admin section I could use the Spry tabbed panel to create a List, Add, Edit and Delete panel.
linking on a row in List will set the value of a variable (unique column) which is used by the Edit and Delete tabs. Add is just the wizard.
I am only trying things out. Is this is a sensible approach or should I look to have a page for each of the 3 functions which are linked from the list of rows. As given in the example in the book?
Regards

Thank you for this. I see that spry is now dead but I have the bit between my teeth for working this out. Partly because it helps me understand the way things are put together. So although Spry is not important. Understanding the system that I will then adapt into other circumstances and other variants is. So please bear with me.
So if anyone out there has some SPRY experience you may be able to tell me what knowledge I am missing here.
So at the moment I have a tabbed panel within a tabbed panel.
Header tabbed panel is called "TPMain"
Sub TB is called "TPAges"
TPAges has 4 tabs "List", "Add", "Edit" and "Delete"
"List" being the default tab.
Link style 1
Playing with forms and links, I have worked out that I can create a repeat region in the list and add a column with 1 hidden value (the id) and a submit button to set the value of the id, but the code to end up showing the Edit panel is not functioning. This is the form code in the table of the List Tab
     <form action="testtab.php?tab=3&panel=3#TPAges" method="post" name="FrmEdit" id="FrmEdit">
                      <input type="hidden" name="EditID" value= <?php echo $row_rsAges['oid']; ?>/>
                        <input type="submit" name="btnEdit" id="btnEdit" value="Edit">
                      </form>
In the edit tab I have the code
     <p><?php echo "*".$_POST['EditID']."*"; ?></p>
The page reloads but on TPMain and on the first tab (people) and not the second tab (Ages)
The value is correctly shown but with teh slash (/) character at the end?
Link style 2
I thought I would try and access it via an href. From googling I came up with this on one of the columns. I know it doesn't set the variable but I wanted to know if I could make it show the panel.
     <a href="javascript:; onclick=TPAges.ShowPanel(3)"><?php echo $row_rsAges['description']; ?></a
No errors just does nothing.
I'm off to hunt for jQuery tab as osgood suggests but would like to crack this out of sheer bloody mindedness.

  • Spry tabbed panels java script error screwing up whole page when I reopen document in dreamweaver

    I need help!
    I am creating a site in dreamweaver and I am using spry tabbed panels for my content on every page.  I've created 4 pages.  When I go to reopen the pages after quitting dreamweaver 2 open and work just fine.  However, for the other two I receive a window that says,
    this document contains javascript code for a widget that no longer exists.  If you don't remove the code, the browser may display javascript errors when loading the page.  Would you like dreamweaver to find all instances of this code for you.
    I've selected both yes and no options and either way my entire page becomes all jumbled.  I've tried deleting the script in code view and it doesn't help?

  • Google Analytics on Spry Tabbed Panels

    I have created a website where I am using a few main html pages and have vertical Spry Tabbed panels for sections of information within most of the pages.  I wish to track the clicks on the vertical Tabbed panels, but I am not having much luck implementing it.  I could probably figure it out if I saw an example somewhere.  I have also implemented a "back button" feature (thanks to Arnout Kazemier!) and clicking to go directly to a tab on a page using the SpryUtils into the default tab option for Spry Tabbed Panels.  The Google Analytics web pages have information on gadget tracking, and one on tracking AJAX,  and one on using the newer asynchronous tracking (which is supposed to be better for Ajax, etc).   I have tried to implement asynchronous tracking along with the "Tracking AJAX" recommendation by Google with no information being posted in a couple of days.
    My website page where I have tried to implement it is here:
    http://www.phostech.com/opt_con_v2.html
    I have also seen examples where a counter is used just to count, but I would like the information on which pages were clicked.
    I would rather not do this using the event tracking (but if that's the only way I'm OK), partly because the event tracking would be separate from the page tracking and the other features woudn't be as useful (exit page, sorting based on content, etc.).
    I am not a great programmer, but I could probably manage it I saw an example close enough to what I need.
    If anyone has any ideas, solutions, implemented examples that could help me, I would greatly appreciate it.
    Thanks!

    I have checked out your page using Firefox, firebug net panel that monitors requests from and to your page. And i do see a successful call to the google servers. But I also noticed a JavaScript error on your page caused by these lines of code:
      http_request.onreadystatechange = sendAlert;
           http_request.open('GET', url, true);
           http_request.send(null);
    You might want to remove those.

  • Spry tabbed panels - Different Hover Class for each tab

    Already posted this in the general Dreamweaver section, but just realized there was a specific Spry section. So, my apologies for the repost.
    I'm setting up spry tabbed panels, and I'm wanting to use an image for each tab, with the text already on it. I've figured this much out by creating a different class for each in the spry tabbed panel css.
    However, I'd also like to have a second hover image for each tab. I'm having trouble figuring out how to set up separate classes for each tab's hover state.
    Any help?
    Thanks.

    Just in case you did not notice the announce at the top of this forum's main page, I have copied it here.

    Actually, I do remember posting that, and have updated it with what worked for me. However, I could not recall posting it in a specific ajax spry forum, so I assumed I just posted in the general forum. Hence the current situation.

  • Looking to add animation to the spry tabbed panels

    SO I was wondering if there's any way to add a fade in/out to
    the content panel on the spry tabbed panels, whenever you click a
    new tab, have that content fade in or do some other kind of effect
    that adobe supports through the spry framework.
    I've already looked at the adobe labs documentation, and I
    can only find effect modifications for the accordion panels.
    Any help would be great!

    I have a simple solution posted on my blog:

  • How can I insert an existing ApDiv into a tab in the Spry Tabbed Panel?

    I have 5 of them all containing nested Apdiv within nested ApDivs (a long storie ) that I would like to insert into 5 tabs in the Spry Tabbed Panel.
    Please help.

    "Hi Gramp,I realize I have made hard work for myself but I really don't know any better. I also realize now that taking on this project may have been a mistake :-)I taught myself how to use the design side of Dream Weaver. These five ApDivs were created in the content area of the spry tool and it worked fine. (yes a lot of work though)For the first time I looked at the code side. I wanted to try to bring a peace of code from another page for something unrelated and when it didn't work I took it out and without noticing, deleting a line from the Spry tool.Of course like a classic newbe I was working without a backup copy so here I am. Loosing hours of tedious work and on the verve of tears :-)I do have some  questions though.  My APDiv
      What does "apDiv1" stands for and what does "My APDiv" stands for?Is the only thing I have to do is changing this line for my five ApDivs and paste it in the appropriate places in the code? Thanks again,Gilaad

  • Spry Tabbed Panels - Start with no default tab??

    Hi all,
    Is there any way that I can have a spry tabbed panels widget
    and NOT have any tabs open when the page loads? I want to put
    multiple tabbed panel widgets on one page for an artist's
    discography
    example:
    Singles
    - tab 1 - tab 2 - tab 3 - etc. etc.
    Albums
    - tab 1 - tab 2 - tab 3 - etc. etc.
    Misc
    - tab 1 - tab 2 - tab 3 - etc. etc.
    I just want the page to look clean and compact - I don't want
    any default tab to display. Is this possible? I looked on the Adobe
    customization help for the widget but I can't seem to find an
    answer. I managed to achieve this by deleting the
    (this.defaultTab); part of this line in the .js file:
    if (this.defaultTab)
    this.defaultTab = this.getElement(this.defaultTab);
    But when I did this, if I created multiple widgets, the
    second widget and so on's tabs would not work properly, for some
    odd reason. I'm kind of a newbie so I apologize for not making much
    sense.
    Thanks in advance.

  • Spry Tabbed Panels: Title Tabs shift left, Content Tabs stay positioned correctly, right.

    I inserted a clean Spry Tabbed Panel into a virtually empty HTML page (no content). I have a content div (624 px , float left) and sidebar (336 px, float right). When I insert the tabbed panel widget into the sidebar, the Spry Title Tabs go or float to te left, while the content portion of the Spry Tabbed panel stays correctly positioned within the sidebar on the right. I looked at the Spry CSS notes, and mentions something of by default they float the tabs left to allow for future divs without problems?? This problem only shows in Design View (leading me to think I've done something wrong). When viewed in Live View or Browser it looks fine, perfect! I have tried several float and clear combinations, none ave helped. I also deleted the Spry Tabbed CSS as to reset to default. Any Help or Advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

    Design View is not an accurate representation. Don't rely on it.  Use Live View and Preview in Browsers.
    Incidentally, the Spry framework is gone from DW now.  Most people have moved away from Spry to  jQuery or commercial widgets.

  • How to use H1, h3, h4 etc when using Spry Tabbed Panels?

    Hi folks,
    I am using Spry Tabbed Panels 2 on my site as it's the only way I know to direct visitors to particular tabs with links.
    Unfortunately I can't use any of my header tags because H2 is dedicated to the Spry tabs, and for some reason has also taken "ownership" o all H tags.
    Is there another way to mark my headings accordingly without having them turn into tabs?
    My site is at www.qtnz.co.nz/activities
    Thanks in advance for advice,
    Jo

    To help you on your way, have a look at the following. Just copy and paste into a new document and view in your favourite browser.

  • More than one spry tabbed panels

    Hi,
    On my index page I have a tabbed panel with it own css (size,
    color, etc.)
    I would like to insert another tabbed panel on another page
    (tabbed panel2). I would like this to have its own css style
    (different size, color scheme, etc.)
    When I insert a spry tabbed panel in dreamweaver it
    automatically takes on the css of my original tab panel design! How
    can I let the second tabbed panel take on its own life, completely
    independent of the first one?
    Thank you.

    Create a second set of CSS rules for it. The easiest way is
    to make a
    copy of SpryTabbedPanels.css, and call it
    SpryTabbedPanels2.css. Link
    SpryTabbedPanels.css to the original page, and
    SpryTabbedPanels2.css
    to the page that you want to look different.

    Hi there,
    I'm developing a website for my friend and i'm using DW CS5 spry tabbed panels. Everything looks great in DW but when i load the page to the server all of the content shows as one page and i can't navigate through tabs.http://dndperspective.co.cc/
    I'll give you the whole code, I am fairly experienced in html but have never used spry before, so it may be a silly mistake. Any Suggestions?

  • Spry tabbed panels as menu system

    Hi,
    This is actually for Dreamweaver CS6.    What I'm trying to do is use spry tabbed panels as horizontal my menu system.    I want to have basically the functionality of the adobe.com menu system where the drop downs are tabbed and the content box size varies depending on the tab and the content box moves it's position relative to the tab that's selected.     I did manage to get the mouseover working so the tab's change according to which tab the mouse passes over.
    My current problems are these:
    I managed to change the content panel box size so it's not the same width as the full panel tab group however I cannot get it to move relative to which tab is selected, it just stays fixed in one location.
    The content tabs are pushing the body of my page down instead of showing up over top of it which is obvioulsy not very condusive for a menu system.
    I would like the default to show none of the panels until someone mouseover's one of the tab's and for the panels to dissapear when the mouse is not in the menu system.
    For something similar to the adobe.com menu system am i using the right feature (it looks like tabbed panels to me) or should I be using a different spry feature, I would like to have text and an image in the content box under each tab just for overall effect.
    I'm quite inexperienced with CSS and Javascripting and have basically gotten this far with trial and error modifying the CSS settings but I'm unable to modify the javascript on my own.
    Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!

    As for your experiment, to prevent the "drop" reduce the spry CSS padding in line 76 selector from  21px to 18px.

    Having trouble with dreamweaver cs 6 spry tabbed panels, all content in each tab showes through like it was all created on one page, plus mouse over doesnt work on them.
    This started all of a sudden.
    The entire website is a series of spry tabbed panels.
    http://pacificlaser.com/const.html
    if you click on General construction tab things work ok...
    if you click on Machine control tab, mouse over doesnt work and all page content of each tab show through.
    ive been looking for the answer for 4 months with no success.
    Hope a fellow dreamwever-person can help
    Thanks Rick

    You called it: your links to the SpryAssets are linking to your hard drive, not to the files within the folder on the server.
    Correct these links:
    <script src="file:///C:/Users/work/Desktop/Sites/SpryAssets/SpryTabbedPanels.js" type="text/javascript"></script>
    <link href="file:///C:/Users/work/Desktop/Sites/SpryAssets/SpryTabbedPanels.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" />
    And you should be good to go.
    Beth
    ps. If you run into more difficulties with the Spry Widgets, take your questions to the Dreamweaver Spry Forum http://forums.adobe.com/community/labs/spry, where they will get quicker attention.

  • Multiple Spry tabbed panels?

    Is it possible to have more than one set of Spry Tabbed
    Panels .css rules, i.e., with different rules within the same web
    site?
    I'd like to have tabbed panels with differing heights or
    widths, but if the dimensions (and, obviously, other rules) are
    changed for one panel, it changes them for all panels within the
    web site.

    I would like to digg up this old post if possible and really looking for an answer asap!
    Unfotunately the answer given here was pretty poor and didntreally help, hence the reason the user I believe went else where and got a simpler and more in depth answer in a non techie jargon from asktheecpers.com.
    Anyway, my problem is slightly different but must be possible!!
    I have one tabbed panel, but I have a fairly complex slanted tabs menu, I have done well so far to get it to work, however the final step I need to apply a slighly diffent hover class to on eof the tab items (the first one in the list has a flat left edge and not a slanted.)
    The selcted and initial states are fine as I have applied a different class and therefore can apply a different image, however the hover class is applied dynamic throughthe JS (not my area of expertise!!) and so I need to create a 2nd hover class to apply to different list items within the same tabbbed group??
    Please, please help!!
