Newbie Mac User

I dont know where else to post this so here goes...
I just switched from pc to mac. I bought the macbook "13"
Ive been using it for a while, and I had all my settings just the way I want them, but then I turned it on the other day, and it was back to the default settings. When I go to the Hard Drive/Users I see my account with all my photos (that i cant get to unless I got through that folder, there not in Iphoto). I try logging out and logging in, and nothing happens.
Did I accidentally change some setting? Im so confused!
Any help would be greatly appreciated...Thanks

The folder inside of Users which contains your photos and other data should have a house icon, which may or may not have a combination lock in it. If the folder you see has a generic icon, look at the other folders inside of Users for one which has a house icon. If none of the folders inside of Users has a house icon, open the NetInfo Manager in the /Applications/Utilities/ folder and check the home property for your user account; next, use the Go to Folder command in the Finder's Go menu to navigate to this location, press the Command and Up keys simultaneously, rename the item with the house icon, and drag the folder with your files so it has the same name and path as the folder with the house icon. Alternatively, you can change your account's home property so that it points to the location of the folder with your data; don't alter or delete any other accounts, properties, or groups.

  • HT4410 Newbie MAC user...Boot Camp question

I have the OS X 10.7.2.  I need to be able to access web statements for our franchise, but according to our IT contact, the web statements are not compatible with Apple, only Windows.  Does anyone know if Boot Camp will solve this issue for me?  Thanks!

You want to run Windows natively, you do so with Boot Camp Assistant.
Want to run Windows as a Guest OS VM within Mac OS, you use one of the three VM programs.
When you are running Windows it is 99% Windows.
Try the various browsers first and change the User Agent from auto detect and check their support forums.
Things that aren't compatible with Apple aren't WWW standard or relies on MS Active-X. Or Apple's Safari. So try Firefox, Opera, OmniWeb or Chrome.

  • Help - Newbie Mac user needs help removing malware in Safari

I've tried researching this but I haven't found exact steps on how to get rid of different website popping up in my Safari browser. I'm a little gun shy with deleting files, etc on the Mac so I hope you can help me fix this. Or better yet, is there software that will fix it?
Thanks in advance for your help.
    Wendy

    1. This procedure is a diagnostic test. It changes nothing, for better or worse, and therefore will not, in itself, solve the problem. But with the aid of the test results, the solution may take a few minutes, instead of hours or days.
    2. If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data before doing anything else. The backup is necessary on general principle, not because of anything in the test procedure. Backup is always a must, and when you're having any kind of trouble with the computer, you may be at higher than usual risk of losing data, whether you follow these instructions or not.
There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
    3. Below are instructions to run a UNIX shell script, a type of program. All it does is to collect information about the state of the computer. That information goes nowhere unless you choose to share it. However, you should be cautious about running any kind of program (not just a shell script) at the behest of a stranger. If you have doubts, search this site for other discussions in which this procedure has been followed without any report of ill effects. If you can't satisfy yourself that the instructions are safe, don't follow them. Ask for other options.
Here's a summary of what you need to do, if you choose to proceed:
☞ Copy a line of text in this window to the Clipboard.
☞ Paste into the window of another application.
☞ Wait for the test to run. It usually takes a few minutes.
☞ Paste the results, which will have been copied automatically, back into a reply on this page.
The sequence is: copy, paste, wait, paste again. You don't need to copy a second time. Details follow.
    4. You may have started the computer in "safe" mode. Preferably, these steps should be taken in “normal” mode, under the conditions in which the problem is reproduced. If the system is now in safe mode and works well enough in normal mode to run the test, restart as usual. If you can only test in safe mode, do that.
    5. If you have more than one user, and the one affected by the problem is not an administrator, then please run the test twice: once while logged in as the affected user, and once as an administrator. The results may be different. The user that is created automatically on a new computer when you start it for the first time is an administrator. If you can't log in as an administrator, test as the affected user. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this section doesn’t apply. Don't log in as root.
    6. The script is a single long line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, though you may not see all of it in the browser window, and you can then copy it. If you try to select the line by dragging across the part you can see, you won't get all of it.
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it:

Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
    7. Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste by pressing command-V. The text you pasted should vanish immediately. If it doesn't, press the return key.
    8. If you see an error message in the Terminal window such as "syntax error," enter
    exec bash
and press return. Then paste the script again.
    9. If you're logged in as an administrator, you'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You will not see the usual dots in place of typed characters. Make sure caps lock is off. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you make three failed attempts to enter the password, the test will run anyway, but it will produce less information. In most cases, the difference is not important. If you don't know the password, or if you prefer not to enter it, press the key combination control-C or just press return three times at the password prompt. Again, the script will still run.
If you're not logged in as an administrator, you won't be prompted for a password. The test will still run. It just won't do anything that requires administrator privileges.
    10. The test may take a few minutes to run, depending on how many files you have and the speed of the computer. A computer that's abnormally slow may take longer to run the test. While it's running, there will be nothing in the Terminal window and no indication of progress. Wait for the line
    [Process completed]
to appear. If you don't see it within half an hour or so, the test probably won't complete in a reasonable time. In that case, close the Terminal window and report the results. No harm will be done.
    11. When the test is complete, quit Terminal. The results will have been copied to the Clipboard automatically. They are not shown in the Terminal window. Please don't copy anything from there. All you have to do is start a reply to this comment and then paste by pressing command-V again.
At the top of the results, there will be a line that begins with "Model Identifier." If you don't see that, but instead see a mass of gibberish, you didn't wait for the "Process completed" message to appear in the Terminal window. Please wait for it and try again.
If any private information, such as your name or email address, appears in the results, anonymize it before posting. Usually that won't be necessary.
    12. When you post the results, you might see the message, "You have included content in your post that is not permitted." It means that the forum software has misidentified something in the post as a violation of the rules. If that happens, please post the test results on Pastebin, then post a link here to the page you created.
Note: This is a public forum, and others may give you advice based on the results of the test. They speak only for themselves, and I don't necessarily agree with them.

  • Can I have some simple answers for a newbi Mac user!!

I've just added some photo's in Iphoto 08 of my holiday which was about 3GB from my pictures folder, Now by importing them into Iphoto is kind of taken up 3gb of my memory from my hard drive.
So 6gb in total for my pictures which seems to be a waste of memory..
I thought Iphoto may just take the info of each photo as a resource not actually copy the photos, Anyway what;s the best solution on storing image's and using as little memory as possible if there is a way at all.
Or is doing what i'm doing the best way? I mean what would be the down side of once importing to Iphoto deleating my photos from my pictures folder?
Sorry for my basic questions but i thought you guys would be the best peeps to ask
    all the best

There are many, many ways to access your files in iPhoto:
For 10.5 users: You can use any Open / Attach / Browse dialogue. On the left there's a Media heading, your pics can be accessed there. Apple-Click for selecting multiple pics.

To upload to a site that does not have an iPhoto Export Plug-in the recommended way is to Select the Pic in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export and export the pic to the desktop, then upload from there. After the upload you can trash the pic on the desktop. It's only a copy and your original is safe in iPhoto.
This is also true for emailing with Web-based services. If you're using Gmail you can use iPhoto2GMail
If you use Apple's Mail, Entourage, AOL or Eudora you can email from within iPhoto. With 10.5 you can access the Library from the New Message Window in Mail:
    Uploaded with plasq's Skitch!
If you use a Cocoa-based Browser such as Safari, you can drag the pics from the iPhoto Window to the Attach window in the browser.
Or, if you want to access the files with iPhoto not running, then create a Media Browser using Automator (takes about 10 seconds) or use this free utility Karelia iMedia Browser
    Other options include:
    1. *Drag and Drop*: Drag a photo from the iPhoto Window to the desktop, there iPhoto will make a full-sized copy of the pic.
    2. *File -> Export*: Select the files in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. The dialogue will give you various options, including altering the format, naming the files and changing the size. Again, producing a copy.
    3. *Show File*: Right- (or Control-) Click on a pic and in the resulting dialogue choose 'Show File'. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.
No, iMovie works differently. Best to ask on that forum.

  • Newbie Mac user:  Selecting block of text via the keyboard only?

    Hi,
I'm switching over to a Mac from a PC and haven't been able to find an answer to this question. How do I select a block of text only by using the keyboard?
As an example, on the PC from wherever the cursor is in a document, if I then hit Ctrl-Shift-end, the entire rest of the document from the cursor down is selected. Another similar task would be to select all of the text from the cursor to the end of the line, which on the PC can be done with Shift-end.
    Are there Mac equivalents?
    Thanks.
    Les
MacBook Pro Mac OS X (10.4.10)
MacBook Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

COMMAND-SHIFT-end to select from the cursor to the end of the line. COMMAND-SHIFT-pagedown selects from cursor to end of document, use pageup to select entire document.
    Other alternatives:
Press SHIFT and use the right arrow key to select characters. Use OPTION-SHIFT and right arrow to select words. COMMAND-right arrow key moves cursor to end of line and OPTION-right arrow moves cursor to next word.

In many instances wherever Windows uses CTRL in a shortcut the Mac uses COMMAND (Apple Key - ⌘)

  • Newbie Mac user with iTunes problems

I recently bought a Mac. I'm attempting to import CDs into my iTunes, but when the CD is finished importing, the songs aren't in my iTunes. How can I remedy this?

Whilst browsing through the other questions...I found a solution that whilst seemingly unlikely...worked for me.
The full description can be found here:
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/13124170#13124170
    Quick summary:
Under parental controls, disable the app store option but enable the iTunes U option. Click okay. Wait for iTunes to load iTunes U. Once that's done, go back to parental controls and enable the app store option and voila! problem solved. Strange but true. =)

  • Newbie Mac User--Opening .docs with footnotes

I am a recent convert to Mac, but my co-authors are still using Windows and Word. I have not been able to successfully open a Word document with footnotes in Pages, Text Edit, or NeoOffice. They are all at the end of the document rather than the bottom of the page. I have gone to "tools--footnotes" in NeoOffice, but it did not help. Does anyone have a solution in Pages?

I'm afraid that the notes are not treated as notes but as a supplement to the main doc.
May you attach a sample .doc file to a mail and send it to:
koenig PERIOD yvan AT tele2 PERIOD fr
I will look at the way it behaves.
For your work, it would be interesting to try to use the FREE openOffice or neoOffice.
I know that both are able to create footnotes and endnotes but I don't know if they import correctly those created in the µSoft's Office.

  • Newbie Mac user needs help for mac to tv video/audio connection.

Alright so I scrolled through the forum posts of lots of people with specific problems on connecting to their tvs, but I have a far more general problem.
I really have no idea what cable(s) I need to in order to watch items playing on my laptop on my tv. It is an older tv, so I don't have HDMI connectivity, so right now my choices are basic 3 component or the 5 input color stream component.
So what cable(s) do I need to do this? A link to the item(s) in question in the apple store would be very helpful.
    Thanks so much!

  • Using a VMware Fusion XP environment with multiple Mac users

    Hi,
I have installed an XP environment using VMware Fusion. I am only able to start this XP environment when logged in as the user that created it. How can I grant access to this environment to other MAC users on my machine?
    Any input is much appreciated.
    Kind regards, Hans.

Thanks all, thanks for your input. I have been able to solve it now.
As suggested I moved the VMWARE file to the shared folder. Then I assigned read/write access rights to the specific users. This is something I had not tried before. Somehow just moving to the shared folder did not change access rights on file level.
    Thanks all,
    Hans.

  • HP Officejet Pro 8500 Premier prints only in black/MAC USER & won't align?

PROBLEM # 1) I've replaced all my ink cartridges, but can't find out why my printer is now only printing in black? I'm a MAC user, so I want to print in color, and am trying to find instructions for a MAC on how to get back to printing in color?
    ACTION TAKEN #1
UPDATE: I've done a three level cleaning of the printer heads, which DOES print in color and each color block now looks great.  The printer heads were not printing any color blocks, but the pink color block,  until the first third level cleaning. I then cleaned the printer heads a second time all the way through the third level.
RESULT: However when I print from any document/web page my printer only still prints in black & white after these two printer adjustments double three stage printer cartridge claening?
     ACTION TAKEN #2
    I found this very detailed report and video on cleaning printer heads, alignment issues, and calibrate line feeds;
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?cc=us&dlc=en&docname=c01624398&lc=en&product=3964986&tmp...
The Print Quality Diagnostics Page looks perfect (including the alignment section)  in all 3 test patterns, and again prints in color.
RESULT: However, my printer still will not print in color after trying all these steps?
IPROBLEM #2)I  've also tried a align printer which also prints in color,  but states, "alignment failed see documentation manual"? To make the situation more complicated the alignment page looks perfect  and prints in color before the error message displays.
After puling the power cord  twice while ON  and wiating 20 seconds, as discussed in the above link. my printer "won't remove the, "align  error message see diagnostics manual".
RESULT: Printer "won't remove the, "align  error message see diagnostics manual", even though the Printer Diagnostic Pages looks great, and the alignment page as well.
I'm operating a lastest version Macbook Air laptop OS X 10.9.4. I have not upgraded to a new operating system since this problem started a week ago, and Ive owned this HP Printer for 2 years.
UPDATE: ISSUE SOLVED. Well you can imagine when I say that I spent about 2 hours on this yesterday that yea he's right. This took a long time to research and try all these solutions. I told my wife about the issue and had her try:
ACTION TAKEN #3: Print a page from a second computer. Windows laptop printed a colored page from a web site.
SOLUTION: (Printing only in Black Color): Wife literally solved the problem in 3 minutes!
Look below at the presets drop-down arrow tab, which is right below the printer name: You will see PLAIN PAPER, FAST DRAFT, BLACK AN(D WHITE). I'm not sure how I checked this, but this is how you can print only in black ink. NOTE: I looked at dozens of answers across the web, and didn't find this info anywhere else!
This screen shot show you what the setting should be if you want to print in fast draft mode to use the least amount of color ink.

    Hi monkplayer,
It looks like your problem is solved? There wasn't a problem with the printer itself, just the printer settings on your Mac?
This is good information though. We don't always have detailed solutions for customers that are using Safari, since it is hard to write instructions for the general public with specific steps for each operating system.
    Best of luck,
    Mary

  • Mac User Cannot Use Form Created in Windows Acrobat 9.0 Pro

I have created a form and emailed it to a Mac user.  He does not know what version of Acrobat he has or even if he is using a full version of Acrobat or Acrobat Reader (I tried to walk him through to check his version, but he could not find it).
He is using a laptop that is about 5 years old.
Anyway....I created this form in Acrobat 9.0 Pro.  It works great for me...when I type in the fields, the text falls perfectly on the lines; the autocalculate works perfectly, and the RESET button works perfectly.  When he opens the file, the text shows all below the lines, the autocalculate does not work at all, and neither does the RESET button.  He sent it to another person, and they too could not use the form.
I have enabled the PDF so it can be filled out by Reader users and it is not in PDF/A mode, but it still is not working for him.  I went to the library where they have a Mac and I was able to open it through Acrobat Reader 9 and again, I was able to fill the form out and it worked perfectly for me.
Would anyone be available (with a Mac) through email so I could send you the file to see if any Acrobat pros might be able to tell me what is wrong with it?  I am absolutely frustrated to the points of tears over this.  If you do not want to place your email here, I will give you mine so you can email me first ([email protected]); just let me know here that you are emailing me so I know to check email rather than check here.
    Thank you!
    Laura

He's probably not using either Acrobat or Reader. The Mac comes with a built-in PDF viewer named Preview and it has limited support for PDF forms. It even corrupts them when it saves. It should definitely be avoided. Fortunately Reader is freely available, you just have to get him to install it.

  • I am a new mac user and I switch to mac due to the graphics that it brings. I do website in pc and I heard iweb is the best.NOW i heard that iweb will be discontinue. so what is the best application there for website using MAC OSX lion?

I am a new mac user and I switch to mac due to the graphics that it brings. I do website in pc and I heard iweb is the best.NOW i heard that iweb will be discontinue. so what is the best application there for website using MAC OSX lion?

It is now confirmed  that iWeb, and iDVD, has been discontinued by Apple. This is evidenced by the fact that new Macs are shipping with iLife 11 installed but without iWeb and iDVD.
On June 30, 2012 MobileMe will be shutdown. However, iWeb will still continue to work but without the following:
Features No Longer Available Once MobileMe is Discontinued:
    ◼ Password protection
    ◼ Blog and photo comments
    ◼ Blog search
    ◼ Hit counter
    ◼ MobileMe Gallery
All of these features can be replaced with 3rd party options.
I found that if I published my site to a folder on my hard drive and then uploaded with a 3rd party FTP client subscriptions to slideshows and the RSS feed were broken.  If I published directly from iWeb to the FPT server those two features continued to work correctly.
There's another problem and that's with iWeb's popup slideshows.  Once the MMe servers are no longer online the popup slideshow buttons will not display their images.
However, Roddy McKay and I have figured out a way to modify existing sites with those slideshows and iWeb itself so that those images will display as expected once MobileMe servers are gone.  How to is described in this tutorial: #26 - How to Modify iWeb So Popup Slideshows Will Work After MobileMe is Discontinued.
It now appears that the iLife suite of applications offered on disc is now a discontinued product and the remaining supported iApps will only be available thru the App Store from now on. However, the iLife 11 boxed version that is still available at the online Apple Store (Store button at the top of the page) and those still on the shelves of retailers will include iWeb and iDVD. Those two apps were listed in small, gray text on the iLife 11 box that I bought.
Personally, if I didn't already have a copy I would purchase one to have it for reinstallation purposes if ever needed.
This might be of some interest to you at this time: Life After MobileMe.

  • I am a new Mac user, and I love everything about it!!!

Hi to all fellow Mac users,
That's it, I've finally had enough of Bill Gates and his crappy software. I tell you all now, if I ever saw him on the street, I couldn't guarantee I would say anything nice to him, quite the opposite.
I met a friend from a drama club I go to, and after several playful arguments and games deciding what was better; Apple Mac or Microsoft Windows, I think the Apple Mac seemed to take over everything that Windows can do. Ok, an example, I do subtitled videos for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing community... after several months of using Windows Movie Maker (apologies for the foul language) I decided to take my friend up on his offer. After 5 minutes of using Final Cut Pro... I was amazed. 5 simple words sum up my experience of subtitling on a Mac... easy, simple, FUN!, smooth, quick. It was fun to do, a challenge after suffering with another Bill Gates failed program, quicker and easier than I EVER thought it would be, and just to remind you all, that I have been a windows user for 9 years. I loved windows, I thought my Windows PC was my life, the music sounded great, I was happy with virus threats, and pop-ups from everywhere...
I told my kind hearted friend that I have always wanted a laptop, so I could listen to music on the train, whenever I go to visit my folks, I could watch DVD's, videos etc... and he very kindly gave me his old Dell Latitude laptop.. (200MHz, 256MB RAM) It looked like it needed a facelift, and a new battery (the battery charge only lasted 3 minutes on a good day), so it constantly needed to be plugged in. Installed on this laptop was a new piece of Operating System I had never used before. Linux, Ubuntu. My friend told me that it used the UNIX system, and was fairly similar to a Mac. Over the moon, I disappeared never to be seen again, while I figured out how to use this machine. Easy - not bad, fun - ok, however I soon got bored of it. I wanted the Mac... I wanted a mac, REALLY BADLY.
I came into a little bit of money, and now I have bought a second hand iBook G4. I have stopped sleeping with it now... after some strange looks from my girlfriend. (I'm not joking) However, I may have kicked it out of bed, but god I love this thing. No spy-ware... no ad-ware, no pop-ups, no viruses, no 'DLL ****' no goddamned Bill Gates ****-up of a Registry either. I seem to spend more time looking at this, because normally I would be clearing all the goodies that come with Windows... as mentioned above. The mac doesn't have it, it's smooth... even the cat has taken a fancy to it... (keeps sniffing it, it wont be long until he tried to bonk my ethernet port!) Even my grandma could probably use this... and she's 65 something. She doesn't even know how to turn on a computer!
iTunes... iPhoto... iChat... *nods in satisfaction* Open source software, not bad stuff really. The only thing that I have to groan about the Mac is the price of their products... a little on the pricey side, but the one solution to that? Get a better job!
But, what can I say... If you have the same problems with Windows as I have drivelled on about, get a mac... no, get a mac! I will not accept anybody using Windows. Get a mac. I wont repeat myself again, get a mac. Oops.
    Many thanks for reading,
    Kieran
    iBook G4 1.07GHz   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

    Hi Kieran,
Welcome to Apple Discussions and the world of Mac!
My 'rebirth' happened about 3 years ago after staying up all one night trying to clear the latest virus from my Windoze lappy. I've forgotten what it was called, there were so many. I do remember, though, that it was a juggling act trying to download the patch from M$ before the virus stopped me. Apparently that particular one was designed to do just that. (It blocked the download site, or was designed to overload it or something…?)
I'd vaguely heard/read that Macs were supposed to be immune to such attacks so decided to explore…
At the time PC World (dreadful place!) had a special offer on, what was then the new, eMacs. We went and had a look but 'er indoors hated the look of them, as I did. They had one poor, lonely iMac left, a 17", ( the model now known affectionately as the iLamp, ET or iGloo - see avatar ) which had been returned for, supposedly, one dead pixel. They had it sadly stowed away underneath the main display still in its box with a tatty handwritten 'Manager's Special' ticket on it with successive reductions marked. Cut a long story short, we got it for a stupidly low price, about 40% off list, & we gave it a home.
I had great fun playing with it and after only 10 minutes felt totally at home with its GUI. After another couple of hours of 'playing' I thought it was time to do some serious stuff and try and get some of our files off the Windows 'thing' onto the iMac. I was a total tyro at networking and didn't even know how to begin so everything got burned to CDs on the lappy and put onto the iMac that way, where compatible. (I've still never ventured into the dark arts of Win/Mac networking, I've never had to.) What shook me though was, even after only two hours on the iMac, how 'kiddy' the XP interface seemed, like it was a FisherPrice toy computer compared to the Mac (Jaguar) interface.
The iMac soon had company when my iBook joined the family. ('Er indoors quickly appropriated the iLamp for her eBay business) Now I prefer the iBook, the iMac keyboard seems so clunky after the iBook's. My only regret is that I didn't go for a larger HD when I ordered it. 30GB doesn't go anywhere these days. Yet my first, very own XP machine only had 3.2GB!
From those early days we've never looked back. I've gone out of my way to learn more about Macs mainly through this forum and other online resources, but there's no way I'd consider myself any kind of expert. I shy away from most things 'Terminal' sticking to sudo periodics and the like. Occasionally I have to 'face' a Windows machine, and hate it. Everything just seems so difficult and non-intuitive, but maybe that's because I am out of practice. To be honest, I don't really care. Windows is not something that I have the slightest inclination to re-familiarise myself with.
Would I change back? I think I've answered that!
Enjoy your Mac and visit frequently. 'Here' is an invaluable, free resource that can answer most of your questions via the search box or just browsing. And if you're still stuck anytime someone will always go out of their way to help.
    Take care,
    Adrian
ps The iMac's still going strong and I never did find that that 'dead pixel'. His loss, my gain!
pps Watch that cat, they love the warmth of laptop keyboards which, of course, increases the longer the cat lies on it until....poof! Overheated iBook and singed cat. Sometime during the last week or so, someone posted about their cat who, when asleep on the keyboard, could mysteriously activate the password to wake it up! I kid you not, have a scroll back.

  • How do I save PSD files created in windows so MAC users can open and work

I have been designing photoshop files for sale to photographers online and all of my work has been created in a windows 7 system. I had a photographer contact me saying that the PSD was trouble to open and that the fonts would not work on his MAC computer.
Can someone supply me with information on creating/saving windows PSD files so that a MAC user can open them and also use the fonts I supply with the files.
The files I create are multilayered PSD's and contain fonts for windows PC use and I don't want to exclude MAC users from utilizing my work.
    Any help appriciated.
    Bqwhitten

Just save.  There is no difference in files between platforms.
There are some Windows-centric font formats that aren't portable, by any OpenType or TrueType font will be portable between platforms.

  • Is it too much to ask that a Mac user can just OPEN and USE a PDF form created by LiveCycle Designer PC software?!?

My problem is just that- I have created all my forms using LiveCycle Designer because it is easier to make the forms accessible to individuals with disabilities.  Apparently it doesn't make Mac users have access to the forms.  I've received complaints from Mac users that cannot complete or submit the forms that I created.  I'm not asking how to recreate using another software, I know how to do that.  I'm asking is there a work around to allow a Mac user to open a PDF form or even XML (bedded within an HTML page) on a Mac computer WITHOUT having to use bootcamp, parallels, etc. and be able to complete the form and submit, print or email it?????  I've exhausted all my knowledge on this thus far and I'm hoping to find something that will help.  So far all forums talk about how Mac users need to have a PC side to their computer.  Isn't there another way?
I've attached an example form that we are no longer using (though still created exactly the same as the others)
    Thanks!

Hi, as far as I can infer, that term means it's not loading any resources until needed, opposite of this...
    -bind_at_load
Sets a bit in the mach header of the resulting binary which tells dyld to bind all symbols                when the binary is loaded, rather than lazily.
    https://developer.apple.com/library/mac/documentation/Darwin/Reference/ManPages/ man1/ld.1.html
    Load resources lazily.
You should never load a resource file until it is actually needed. Prefetching resource files may seem like a way to save time, but this practice actually slows down your app right away. In addition, if you end up not using the resource, loading it wastes memory for no good purpose.
    http://developer.apple.com/library/ios/#documentation/iphone/conceptual/iphoneos programmingguide/PerformanceTuning/PerformanceTuning.html
And, higher OS versionsare even worse with Bonjour/mDNSResponder, but might see this...
