Newbie needs flash video advice please

I'm creating my first flash video and I have a couple of
questions.
We filmed an interview with some people which we'd like to
put on both a
DVD and on the web. I've edited the film in iMovie as that's
all I have
available and added some title screens between clips.
I have no problem exporting the movie and saving it as a .flv
file for
the web version. However as I also want to reduce the
dimensions of the
movie to be only about 320px wide and when I do so, the title
font looks
jaggedy and quite rubbish, because it's been shrunk.
1. Is there a way in flash that I could replace these titles
so that
this doesn't happen?
2. On a slightly different note, I'd like to be able to
display the
company logo in the main video area whilst the movie is not
playing.
I.e. Before the user presses play and when they press stop.
I'm new to
flash as a whole, so am not sure if this is possible or how I
can do it.
Any suggestions would be gratefully received!
thanks

You could, of course, try to overlay the video (with titles
stripped)
with Flash made title texts, but I would advise against this.
Scaling bitmaps (and a video is nothing more than a series of
bitmaps)
is never a good idea, so work with footage that has the final
resolution
so that no scaling is necessary.
Adding the titles to it would be easy with Adobe
AfterEffects.
Then, convert the final video into an FLV file and use AS to
make it
play. The help file is really, well, helpful in this area
(FLV playback).

Just put the logo into the video, but only in the first
frame. In Flash
you pause the video playback right there. Easy, but maybe not
so easy
for beginners. Take a look at Lee's great video tutorials:

  • Basic question about Flash video. Please Help

    Hello,
Sorry for the noob question but I'm struggling with the basic
    understanding about the Flash video.
I just need to reduce a large video file to a small size with
a nice quality and the Flash Video Encoder does very god job with
that. But when I double click the compressed .flv file it opens as
a blank screen in the stand alone player without playing any video.
I can use Dreamweaver to produce a web page playing the file, but I
don't need this file for posting it on a web page, I just want the
file smaller and to simply play it on my computer or send it to
    others.
What is the way to do this?
    I appreciate your help.

It sounds like you're not having problems with the actual
compression of the videos, just the playback, correct? All you need
is a standalone player that plays FLVs. Like Quicktime Player plays
MOVs, and Windows Media Player plays WMVs, you need something to
play the FLV files. There are many free options available. On a
mac, I use something called, strangely enough, SWF & FLV
Player. You can find it here:
    http://mac.eltima.com/freeflashplayer.html
Just do a search for FLV players and you should find
something appropriate. The only downside is you'll need to make
sure anyone you're distributing the videos to also has an FLV
player. If you're sending your files to just a few people, no big
deal. If this is for the public in general, you would want to embed
a Flash video player in an HTML page and send it like that.
    Hope that helps.

  • Need Flash Video Expert

Hi there, I'm working on a website and am in need of some
flash help. I am willing to pay for the services... and I like a
personal relationship via AIM or MSN where we can talk through code
    and figure things out.
I'm looking to be able to use PHP to dynamically generate
video links via a search engine. Those links allow a user to click
on them and play a flash video thats embedded into an iframe so
that the entire page doesnt have to refresh every time a user
    clicks on another video.
If this is something that you have experience in and are
interested in helping... send me an e-mail with an AIM or MSN name
or any questions you might have. Thanks a lot

  • Help Suggestions Needed: Flash Video VS. Animated .Gif

    Hi everyone,
My goal is to post an image on my blog that continuously plays different image frames. I'm new to using other programs in the Adobe Suite other than Photoshop, so I started to achieve my goal by making an animated .gif
The quality of the animated .gif anyway you try to adjust it ends up not being the best quality, so I thought I would try making a Flash Video. I was successful at making my image frames into a QuickTime Video, but this is not really exactly what I wanted. I was hoping someone might know of a way to achieve the animated .gif concept of continuously playing images, but with much higher quality??! At this point, any and all suggestions would be very much appreciated
    Thank you

    Hi Howard,
Yes, your wording is perfect! That's exactly what I'm trying to do and still be able to use it on blogger.com
Working with an Animated .Gif I'm not getting the quality I want, but other than that it would work perfect.  As a video with Flash the images don't
continue to loop, but start and stop as a video should with play options. So, this is even more of a stretch from what I originally was trying to
    accomplish.

  • Newbie - troubleshoot flash video

    HI All
Flash is not my normal area so I apologise upfront if I don't
    use the correct terminology.
Using Flash Professional 8 I want to convert movie files such
as .avi into a flash video file to be viewed online. When I do this
it outputs the audio but with no visuals. the process I go through
to create this is as follows:
    1. in flash select File > New > Flash Document
    2. select File > Import > Import Video
    3. I then select the video source by browsing my computer and
    select next
    4. I select progressive download from a webserver and select
    next
    5. I select next with following settings identified:
Video encoded for playback with flash player 8
    video codec: On2 VP6
    Video data rate: 150kbps
Audio codec: MPEG Layer III (MP3)
    Audio data rate: 32kbps (mono)
    6. I select an external skin and then next
    and then select finish.
after it is finished and I preview it I do not see the video
I just get the audio. Any help would be greatly appreciated
    Thanks....Doug

  • Need flash video jukebox

I would really like some help finding a flash video jukebox. Would like a player with either a list on the side or images and descriptions on the side so that viewers can pick which video they want to watch. I have about 5-10 movies on my site, in Flash, that I want viewers to be able to see in whatever order they choose, they may decide to only view one or two then move on. I originally loaded all of the flash videos and their respective players on to one page, but the downlaod time was horrible. And I would like something slicker that a page full of players.
Any help would be appreciated. If I get what I want I would be happy to post it somewhere for others to download.
    Steve

No. This page has some that might work. http://3d2f.com/tags/jukebox/flash/. Jalbum supposedly has a template like a flash slide grid that will handle videos.
The only other suggestion I can think of is to create an iPhoto album with your videos and use that to create a MobileMe gallery containing your videos. That would very easy to do and could be embedded into an iWeb page like in this demo page: MobileMe Galleries. The example is set to go directly to the mosaic mode. If you click on the Grid button at the bottom you'll see what it would look like. Just think of each photo as a video.
If you have other MMe galleries that you don't want connected to the video one just use the Advanced Settings pane to isolate the gallery from the others.

  • Flash Video, Streaming, Please Help

I have imported video to my flash AS2 project using ClearOverPlaySeek skin, and placed it inside mc, the player does not show up until the whole video is downloaded, visit: http://www.video-krecik.pl, go to galeria and click on the first video.
I don't know the reason why it is happening, I want my video to stream.
    Please help me

Of course I can ping, they are connected and share the internet connection which the laptop gets by wlan. Probably it is local, as I cannot call it from the laptop using the laptop's IP in the command, too. There is no way to easily get it to the 'net' if the program doesn't supply one itself, is it?
I'm using TVants, a windows application for internet TV, running in wine and I want the output on my television but I would like the program itself to operate on my laptop because I have no mouse and no keyboard connected to the media pc.
I also tried to run it on the media pc (which I control through ssh) and use X11Forward to get TVants on the xserver of the laptop, but it doesn't work as I get some "bad window parameters" errors from wine when forwarding.

  • I have Dreamweaver CS5 with Windows 8 and it won't stay connected to the server and it says I need flash plug in, please help

I have a Gateway computer with Windows 8 installed.  I have installed Dreamweaver CS5 to manage my website and it won't stay connected to the server.  It also won't play flash and says I need a flash plug in.  Please help

#1  Try toggling Passive FTP on/off in your remote server's site definition.
#2 Except for a handful of gaming sites, Flash is a dead web technology.  It's not supported by iPhone, iPad, iTouch, Android, etc...  I don't recommend using Flash for anything these days.  Better to use HTML5, CSS level 3 and JavaScript.

  • FLV video advice please

As a business we record webinars of our own products and host them on our website for people to come back to. My problem is making this process easy for me and easy for the viewer. Typically I receive a 60mb wmv or mpg file which is around 30mins long and it needs to be converted to flv which can take upto about 6 hours. It also needs to be quite large so viewers can see the software so I am resizing to 1024xwhatever depth it needs. The files end up being around 200-300mb and make viewing very hard. Im using Flash Media Encoder to convert, whats the best practice for this? and what file size could I consider acceptable? I have been using:
    On2 VP6
    1024 width
    15FPS
    700 bitrate video
    64 bitrate audio (mono)

    Hi there,
The answers to you questions are italized
Typically I receive a 60mb wmv or mpg file which is around 30mins long  and it needs to be converted to flv which can take upto about 6 hours.  It also needs to be quite large so viewers can see the software so I am  resizing to 1024xwhatever depth it needs. The files end up being around  200-300mb and make viewing very hard.Im using Flash Media Encoder to convert, whats the best practice for this?
There is no thing as best practice when it comes to selecting a software for converting videos. I used Adobe media encoder and I converted a 100 MB wmv file to a f4v video in around 4 minutes.
what file size could I consider acceptable?
File size is directly dependant on the resolution, clarity and duration of the video. So considering that you cannot edit the video to decrease the duration of the video, you can compromise for the file size either in resolution or clarity. Although 300 MB of video might not be a very big overhead If you use Flash media server to stream your videos.
    I have been using:
    On2 VP6
    1024 width
    15FPS
    700 bitrate video
    64 bitrate audio (mono)
The video format and encoding you use is totally based on the "Viewability" factor.
On2 Vp6 is a good encoding format. You can also try and stream using H264 videos.
On the whole I feel you must look into streaming you videos as soon as the size of your video file increases.

  • Photoshop Elements 7:  Newbie Needs Drop Shadow Help, Please

    Hello.
I'm brand new to Adobe Photoshop Elements 7 and need help with the Drop Shadow feature, please.
I've read the documentation, but it's not crystal clear to me, so maybe someone can guide me through it.
I want to create text on a blank white canvas, and add a little bit of drop shadow to it. That's all I want to do--plain and simple.
I can create the text, but I can't for the life of me find any drop shadow options.
The documentation I'm using is the on-line, web-based help. I type in Drop Shadow in Search, and select Add Text to a Slide.
The third step says, "In the Properties palette, set any of the following options" and then offers some options, including Drop Shadow and Drop Shadow Color.
I'll be darned if I can locate the Properties palette. Obviously, I'm not well-versed with Photoshop, so if anyone can just steer me towards this feature, I'll take things from there.
I know this is probably rock-bottom basic, but I'm stumped. Thank you!
    J. Danniel

I need a lot more help with this than I thought.
The problem I'm having is this: After creating the drop shadow effect, when I try to save the image as a transparent GIF, it quite simply.... looks horrible.
Here is what I'm doing in detail:
    1. New/Blank File.
    2. Blank File is set to transparent. (Is this the right way to make a transparent GIF?)
    3. Creating text.
    4. Cropping text.
    5. Selecting drop shadow effect.
Now, here's where I get confused. Do I just select File/Save As, or File/Save For Web?
When I just use File/Save As, and select the GIF format, the drop shadow effect in the final file looks horrible when I embed the image into a web page. The text looks good, and the file is transparent, but the effect is ugly.
When I try to use Save for Web, there is a Before/After screen. The Before side looks decent; the After screen looks horrible, too.
So, now I don't know what to do. Can you or anyone guide me through this a bit further, please? Thank you! Jd

  • AE "newbie" needs help with effect - (please!)

    Hi all:
I'm working on a highlight video of my daughter - she's the goalie for her H.S. Lacrosse team.  I recently bought the Creative Cloud subscription. I'm editing the video in Premiere Pro CC on an iMac - OSX 10.7.5.
I'm putting together a short intro/open, and trying to add some effect to my daughter in the clip shown below.  She is running/jumping - I want to be able to isolate just her and add some sort of color effect, a glow (or even just make everything else b&w).  Obviously, my problem is with masking or roto brushing.  I've spent many hours (probably too many!) watching tutorials and reading the help articles -- and I just can't seem to get it right.  I saw a video talking about the much anticipated October update - and wondering if the new Mask Tracker will do what I need/want?
Here is the clip - (my daughter is #11 - the only one wearing a helmet)
Thanks in advance for any guidance/help/suggestions you can provide,
    Kim

Thanks again for pointing me in the direction of the Motion Tracking and Rotoscoping tutorial.
I successfully (in my opinion, anyway!) was able to apply an effect to the moving object (my daughter ).  There are a few places that I could tighten up the mask, but it's not too bad - and I just realized I forgot to feather the mask - so that will help as well.
I tried a bunch of different effects -- but really wasn't happy with any of them.  I went ahead and just made her B&W just for illustrative purposes.
What I'd really like to do is make the background B&W and keep her in color.
I tried applying the B&W effect onto the footage layer -- but it seemed to make everything b&w - including my masked/rotoscoped object. I am sure that it is very simple to do -- but haven't been able to find the right instructions.
(I looped the clip a few times - since it is only about 1.5 seconds long)..
So - again - thanks in advance for helping me figure out how to apply the B&W to just the background!

  • Need some help/advice please

    Hi,
I am trying to fix a friends computer. She has a MS-6385 m/b but the keyboard does not work. When trying to boot to ME. you just hear clicks when pressing a key.
If I boot from a W98 disk, I get a beep on each keypress. The CPU seems fine as it will load the W98 boot disk OS.
I was going to try a PS2 to USB converter, but the manual implies that the USB keyboard is disabled by default and I cannot get into the the BIOS to change it.
So I am asking for any advice as to how and try to fix this, or should I just bin the m/b and try and get another socket 423 m/b with rambus slots.
    TIA

Using my keyboard though a KVM switch, which works fine on my network, so its not the kbd. I reckon the ps2 connection has gone belly up, so I'm stuffed for a fix.
Looks like I will need to get another board, I have found a 6339 board, which I might use or get the Asus P4t board.

  • Need a little advice please?

    Hi all
Been a while since I've had any problems with my system but just lately it seems to have gone a little flakey on me.
About 3 weeks ago I installed a Soundblaster 5.1Live card and was very impressed with the sound quality compared to my old Muse XL card. Everything was fine for a couple of weeks and then all of a sudden no sound would come out of the speakers! I hadn't touched anything to do with the case, either inside or outside since installing the card or any audio settings and I checked that the speakers where ok on another system.
As my wife had been very impressed with the sound quality of the 5.1 before all sound was lost and so I had already decided to put that card in her machine and had ordered an Audigy 2 for this system since I was sort of planning on hooking it up to our surround sound system. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers for the 5.1 card but this made no difference and so when the Audigy 2 arrived today I removed the 5.1 and installed the Audigy 2 instead. Everything says it's installed properly but there's still no sound at all. It's currently installed on PCI slot 4, the same as the 5.1 had been and the Muse XL before it.
I know there can be problems between VIA chipsets and creative cards but I always thought they were usually to do with distorted sounds or popping and crackling, not just a sudden loss of sound..i.e. Saturday night it was happily playing MP3's and then Sunday morning nothing!
    Would appreciate any advice
    Ta
    Chris

    Hi guys
Thanks for the advice. I've cleared the CMOS, reinstalled the Audigy2 in slot 3 and the NIC in slot 4 and then reformatted the HDD and now everything is fine. All I need to do now is find out what's the best slot to install the SB 5.1 on my wife's ABIT KD7-E Mobo...it's ok, I'm not asking...will go and ask on AMD forums

  • Need RAID 5 Advice Please...

Had a failed drive this morning.
My config is 3x 1.5Tb drives in RAID 5 config.  I understand the process to replace and rebuild the failed drive, my question is can I swap in a 2Tb drive so that I can eventually swap all of the drives and end up with a 3x2Tb array?
I need to get a replacement drive on order, I'd like to order the 2 Tb drives, but if you tell me the RAID will only work same for same in the swap out than that will be what I need in the short term.
thanks in advance for any advice.

I would backup and reload if possible. I don't think you can use the full capacity, but given how sensitive RAID5 is to drive spec and performance (and firmware) buy in sets and buy spares.
A friend was telling me about why RAID6, with more drives of course, would make more sense and offer better redundancy in case of failures.
I assume you are using Apple's, not someone elses. Reload vs rebuild vs what your future needs are...?
Apple has not supported 3TB drives btw, just to make sure you know.
And SoftRAID or any software based can't do RAID5, do you need that? I thought rebuilds were slow and as drives got higher capacity even more so, esp. when doing background build. A 3-drive mirror with theirs might make better sense. Check the features.
    http://www.softraid.com/index.html
Drive prices have not gone back to where they were last August and still nearly 1.75x what they were. Enterprise even more so but that is what you want to use.

  • Newbie to flash video streaming

Hi, I have a website that would like to stream videos, similar to how youtube does it, but for training purposes. I was wondering what software is most widely used to achieve this? Do you have to have a seperate server where the files reside? Does one have to build all the software to convert, store on the disk, etc.? How much is out there?
In case it's necessary to tell you about my environment, we're using Java with the Spring Framework.
    Thanks

I suspect they might be redirecting to two different web pages - i mean serving two different web pages bases on from where request is coming from. Now if you want to know how do they do it - might not be scope of this forum per se - but let me see if i can get more info on that.
