Newbie needs help: Authorware Web Player for Intel Mac OS X

Hi guys,
Complete newbie here in need of assistance please.
I am using a Intel MacBook Pro 3.1 (early 2007) running Leopard OSX 10.5.8
Have paid to do basic computer Microsoft Office course via net. College still uses MS 2003 and so I bought Office for Mac 04 as I was told all
I needed to be able to do this course was to be able to open office docs via email.
Have just received the course book and page 2 tells me to download Macromedia Flash and Authorware Web Players 5 and 7.
Flash loads without a glitch. Went to Adobe-Downloads-Web Players page, scrolled down to Authorware player which lists both a compact and a complete version of Web Player 7 for OS X on Safari. But here's the kicker - it specifically states for Power PCs. I tried to download it anyway and
of course it will not load. So I am apparently up the proverbial creek as far as the course goes.
So my question is this: Has Adobe just wiped its hands of all mac users of this app once Apple changed to the Intel architecture?
Or does anyone know of a work around or another app that can help me out of this problem?
Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated as I am supposed to have started this course and unbelievably cannot get past page 2!

Just thought I would give you an update on my problem. I was contacted by the lovely Matt from Adobe customer care, who was right on the ball as far as accessing my problem and was as helpful as can be. I just thought I would post his reply to my email to let everyone here know that Adobe do have a customer care line and people there to help us.

With regards to the problems you’re having, the course book is probably indicating these older Flash and Authorware Player versions simply because they were contemporary when the book was authored. The Player teams put a lot of work into ensuring that new versions can play any content that worked in the previous versions. So my recommendation is to uninstall any older versions, and just install the most recent versions of the players. These should be capable of playing any content that was authored for use by players 5 & 7 ,etc.

Hi, has anybody had any experience installing the Authorware Web Player for use with Windows 7 & Windows 8? I'm looking at upgrading computers from Windowx XP on a standalone network (no internet access), and need to be able to display our Authorware content accessed via an LMS.

I attempted to download macromedia authorware web player for elearning course but program hangs up

I needed to download two programs in order to view the course material for an elearning course. I was able to download one but the other seems to be hanging up. It states loading and goes no further. The course is Macromedia authorware web player. And it does not show a movie but shows "Loading".
Now when I try to reload it comes up at the download site "loading". Anyone have a similar problem.

Windows media player for intel macs?

im so bumbed that windows media player wont run on intel macs...does anyone know when they plan on getting it for intel macs!..i need it!...Flip4mac *****...the formats that it plays i have not come across yet..and thats even if its working properly...i think im gunna uninstall that actually....Please I need windows media player!!!...anyone know anything about it?

That being the case if it won't run I'd do the "regular drill": Repair Permissions, download & run Onyx or Cocktail, consider booting from your install DVD and running Disk Repair. If still no joy post back.
not sure what to make of this....i might just wait for the intel version of flip4mac..because im not sure if i should do all that....i dunno im so confused...why cant it just work?....what is onyx and cocktail?.....what is Repair Permissions?....im not exactly a techy so im not to comfortable running the instal DVD..wat if i mess everything up?..isnt there and easier way to get WMP on my macbook pro?...anyone else have problems downloading and using WMP..and found a way to run it?..or am i seriously the only one that does not know what to do....im not trying to be annoying, but some please help me...

Need an audio routing utility for intel mac

i would like to know if there is a utility for intel macs which will allow me to specify which audio output is used by specific applications. to be more specific i would like itunes, DVD player, Eye TV applications output to go via the digital output on my Mac Pro which is linked to my Hifi, and everything else (system sound effects, iChat, etc) to go via the analog output which is linked to small PC speakers.
I am aware of the 'Detour' plugin, which sadly doesn't work on intel Macs, and basically am looking for a similar application for intel Macs

I might have an answer. After trying every audio routing program I could find, I poked around in Nicecast. I found a deeply buried menu for an output choice of default or 1/2. It was on default so I chose 1 for left and 2 for right and this accomplished what I need. Until I quit the programs. Then I was back to square 1. I disabled Detour and tried a currently supported program, Jack. jack would not even load the currently running programs to be able to route them. So I went back to Detour and had to add Nicecast to it's list. All is well, I hope
In fact I tried another application at the same time and Detour did what it was supposed to, so it looks like my problem might have been with Nicecast all along, but I set the output back to default and it still worked. Maybe after some updates I just need to reset all the preferences? But Detour has not been supported since 2005 and Jack seems useless.

Has anyone tried using Explorer or Firefox (both NOT universal) on their Intel Mac through Rosetta? Does it work ok? Or does it slow things down, crash, or other problems?
Safari DOES NOT work well with ebay. I tried to sell an item on ebay and it wouldn't work. Ebay says Safari is the problem.

Newbie need help with Web BEx setup!

Out of curiosity, I decided to install Netweaver so I can have a play with it. I am a complete newbie to Netweaver therefore I apologise if this is out of context...
Here's my question:
How do one go about getting Web BEx to work?
Whenever I activate the link in the portal, I get an error about unknown "SWITCH_AXES" command and 0ANALYSIS type 4 error. I search the forum and the few passing mentions of the problem points to OSS notes that is only accessible through service marketplace (which I don't have an ID). I have check the object types in BI content and seems that 0ANALYSIS is already activated. There must be something I am missing. Tried blindly and randomly installed other BI content (mostly Web templates and objects) but to no avail (and encounted a few short dumps).
Any help is greatly appreciated!
So far, here're what I did:
1) Install Netweaver 2004S ABAP and Java on the same machine. Instance 00, 01 and 02 respectively.
2) Try to run BI-Java template installer, but met with error part way. So some of the steps are done manually.
3) Set up SLD (both instance are in the landscape), and 'partially' set up SSO. Partially as while JAVA to ABAP seems to work, ABAP to JAVA is not working. Anoying but livable.
4) Installed TREX (instance 03) and are seen by ABAP and JAVA.
5) ABAP is seen in the portal and I can create transactional iviews and put them in the Portal (with working SSO).
6) Did reverse-proxying with Apache, but I don't think it matters as it seems to be a backend module issue.
7) Business planning/wizard is working (in ABAP and Portal) as is Broadcast. As you can see, Web BEx is the only thing that is not working

The default link for Web Analyser in EP 7 seems to point to the new template. When opening the analysis template in the new BEx windows tool, the same error is being reported. Using 3.5.x WAD, I can't locate the template.
More on this issue Although for that case, the meta data is not installed. Is there a way to trace missing component and reinstall the needed BI content in RSA1?
BTW, these are on JAVA SP9 and ABAP SP11.

Crypto newb: Need help with encrypting data for offline Swing app

Hi all,
I'm VERY new to cryptography. Can somebody point me in the right direction? I've created a Swing application that is intended to be used offline (no network connections are established by the app). I need to export XML files from this application, to be transported via floppy to another instance of the application on a different computer for import. The information is sensitive and must be encrypted!
I started looking into AES and using asymmetric ciphers (public/private key encryption). But then I realized that if Jane is exporting a file for Bob to view, she won't have access to Bob's public key (no network access). Ugghh!
I noticed another solution in this forum where the person suggested using password encryption. It was an old post and I think it used DES. Anyway, password encryption doesn't seem too secure.
So, I thought I'd create a symmetic key (correct term?) once, store it in the program directory, and distribute it with the application installer. That way, everyone would have the same key and would be able to encrypt/decrypt each others files. Right? Err... I'm not sure.
Like I said, I'm a newb at crypto. If someone could suggest the best/most secure way to accomplish this, I would be eternally grateful.

choose/provide the password is the best solution?Well, as you noted, giving everyone two sets of keypairs is semantically equivalent to giving everyone a single symmetric key. And, as I've noted, it's completely INsecure - everyone who gets access to an install disk, either legitimately or no, can read every transmission your app makes forever after. Cryptographically speaking, this is Not A Good Thing.
The advantage of PBE is that it's easy for your users to exchange keys when their machines can't see each other. The real key here is that your app, if you really want it to be secure, MUST allow/require that transmission between Alice and Bob use a different key than that between Alice and Carlos or Bob and Carlos - otherwise, if Eve compromises any user of your software, ALL users are compromised.
I'd go with PBE, just because other alternatives are painful for your end users. You could use generated KeyPairs, for example, if you provide a means for users to exchange public keys. If you display Bob's public key in encoded, String-able form, then Bob can either email that to Alice or read it off to her over the phone. Into your app Alice loads/types in that public key, and the app now knows how to secure communications with Bob.
Public keys are large, though, and people screw them up typing them in. And many users have TERRIBLE key discipline - if Bob loses access to his private key, he can't read anything Alice sends. And if his private key is readable on some public shared folder (which happens with a totally-frightening regularity), then we're back to no security at all.
Use one of the triple-DES PBE Ciphers, and get on with making your app do what you really want it to do, would be my advice. (Free advice, of course, being worth every penny you pay!)

Newbie needs help on Quad encoder for cRIO 9421

Hi,
When using PCI 4451/4452, we can use the GPCTR0_UP_DOWN Signal and input this signal on the DIO6 pin; this general-purpose counter 0 counts down when the pin is at a logic low and counts up when it is at a logic high.
If we are now using cRIO 9421, how do we achieve both the count up and count down capability which can be easily done using DAQmx?

Mr. Bing,
You can do the UP/DOWN counting programatically. You can modify the examples in this folder for your application C:\Program Files\National Instruments\LabVIEW 7.1\examples\FPGA\Counters\Event Counters. To count UP you can increament as you get the events and to count DOWN you can intialize a numeric control and decreament the value as you get the events.

Download Authorware Web Player

Hi,
I am trying to download the Authorware Web Player for
viewing of training disks created by this product on a intranet
with no internet access. Every time I go to download, it wants to
install on my home machine which does me no good. I do not have the
full version Authorware creator nor have a need to make training
mediums, just utilize the viewer. Is there a link anywhere to
download the .exe/.cab viewer so that I can through it on a thumb
drive and bring it into work? Appreciate the help.

Here are my suggestions, but the real solution is that we really need Adobe to support this amazing educational product from the operating system vista and up and for any new browsers other than Internet Explorer.
How can we do that? I have spent hours on the phone and it is impossible to get through to Adobe experts able to create this solution.

It is recommended that you access the program via Internet Explorer.
Windows 7 users:
Later operating systems have higher security features. Here are the workarounds: Accessing the Demo Program - When clicking on the Demo link, a pop-up appears asking, "Do you want to run the following Authorware file?" - Click Yes. The Macromedia logo appears. Next, in the browser, click on Tools > Internet Options > Security. Uncheck Enable Internet Protection this allows the Demo Program to open in a pop-up window. Restart Internet Explorer and return to http://www.nurseeducation.org/. Now when you click on the FREE Demo link, the Demo Program will open. Once the program Demo has opened, simply recheck the Enable Internet Protection box in your browser's securty settings. If necessary you can manually download the free Authorware plugin at Adobe.com If your computer is later than 2008, you need to allow Active X controls to download. Click LOGIN on the side navigation. A BAR appears at the top of the pop up page. Click on INSTALL ACTIVE X CONTROL. Another prompt pops up - CLICK INSTALL. Now RESTART YOUR BROWSER. Return to www.nurseeducation.org. Click LOGIN. When the prompt appears, click OK. You’re now able to access the program. Still having trouble? This problem may be easily resolved, by temporarily turning off the new security settings completely. Go to TOOLS > INTERNET OPTIONS > Select the SECURITY TAB > UNCHECK THE BOX that says ENABLE PROTECTED MODE. Now just restart Internet Explorer and it will work the next time you try to log in. Do re-enable protected mode after your download has finished by just rechecking the Enable Protected Mode check box. If it still did not work it could also be that your browser’s internet options must be changed to allow this player to be downloaded. If so, with internet open go into TOOLS at the top, then click INTERNET OPTIONS, then click SECURITY and then click CUSTOM LEVEL and then change Disable To Enable wherever it says Active X files. Windows XP users: If a new window does NOT pop-up, check the task bar at the bottom of the screen. Some Operating Systems, such as Windows XP, will not permit a link to open above the program, and instead will flash orange in the task bar at the bottom of the screen. Click the orange item to open the link.

A bug in my Authorware Web Player 2004 Helper was just
uncovered. It was poking a misspelt cab reference "awswaxd.cab"
into Authorware's OBP.INI file, which when then written into html
for web deployment of applications, would fail to call up the
player properly.
This problem occurred from July 2006 when I updated the
product to handle libraries properly. Unfortunately, it was at that
time that I somehow mucked up the reference, as it was correct for
the two years previously. Since it's only poked in once, I never
caught it on my own systems.
I have placed a corrected version at
http://www.clickcraft.com/ko/AW2004WebPlayerHelper.zip.
Please obtain it and replace the commands in your AW6.5 and/or AW7
folders.
I apologise profusely for the trouble this has surely caused
a few of you. I only wish I'd found out earlier.

Need help Installing Flash player 10.3 for firefox. It stops at 50%

So I have Windows Vista Basic Home, I tried updating my Flash version in firefox because it was out of date, but everytime it start downloading it , then I get the a message that says "Error " Appliation in use." I uninstalled it and followed all the suggestions on the websites nothing is working. I even uninstall google chrome thinking it was the problem but I'm still having that problem so I really don't know what to do because now the only place Flash player is installed seems to be Google chrome that I had to redoawload, but everywhere else tells me that I need to install it.
