Newbie needs InDesign CS5 help: text overflow into new page

Hello... so, I've been using InDesign CS5 to create a document, because it transfers nicely into the pdf format. I had written most of the stuff a couple months ago, am transferring it to InDesign via copy and paste, and then have to go in an "re-do" the bolds and italics and hyper links etc, b/c it does not transfer those things to InDesign. I can live with that. However, with this 10+ page document, how can I copy all my text and paste it onto 10 pages+ of InDesign, rather than piece-by-piece on a page-by-page basis?
As of now, I have to take the first page of my original, and then copy and paste and estimate, add and subtract until the sizing is right... and then I have to do that with page 2... and page 3... and page 4.. and... well, you get the idea. More than 10 pages of this! Now, the straw breaking this camel's back is the fact that I have to go in and do a revision in one part... so that I have to move and shift part of page 2 to page 3, and page 3 to page 4, and page 4 to page 5, and... ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!
Is there ANY way to get text to simply overflow from one page to the next? When you try to drag a text box down to the next page you've added, it stops at the bottom of the page and will not let you flow into the next page. I am not particularly tech savvy and don't know coding or html or etc. I am looking for a way to allow text to flow from one page to the next as if you were writing a Word doc.
I have 80 more pages and 7 more documents to do this with. Please help! I want to cry at the thought of dealing with this in every single 8 to 12 page document I'm recreating.

All is not lost for autoflow even using copy paste. Here's a nifty little trick that will help you:
ID does not require a text frame before you paste, so if you don't start with one, or don't use the one you've already drawn, ID will conveniently draw a 2" square text frame in the center of the screen if you issue a paste command. This frame will contain all of the copied text, but most of it will be overset (you'll see a red plus sign inthe "out port" on the lower right of the frame).
Overset text can be picked up and flowed using autoflow, just as if you were placing a text file, so use the selection tool (black arrow) to select that small text frame if it isn't already selected, then click the red plus sign to pick up the overset. You should now have a loaded text cursor that looks sort of like the upper left corner of a page. DON'T click it anywhere yet.
First press backspace to delete the small text frame (which should have remained selected). Now you can start your auto-flow holding the Shift key and clicking your loaded cursor wherever you like. All of the text, including what was visible in the now deleted frame is in the cursor waiting for you.

I had the same requirement, I did as follows:
LEFT HAND SIDE SELECT "TABLE": check below right hand side properties for this object
1. table tab: select the check box allow page breaks within content.
2. pagination tab: place: Following previous
                            after:continue filling parent
                           overflow: none.
LEFT HAND SIDE SELECT "HEADER": check below right hand side properties for this object
3. row tab: select the check box allow page breaks within content.
4. pagination tab: place: Following previous
                            after:continue filling parent
                           overflow: none.
select the check boxes: Include header row in initial page
                                        include header row in subsequent pages
Binding tab property:
5.select check box: Repeat row for each data item
LEFT HAND SIDE SELECT "ROW": check below right hand side properties for this object
6. Row tab: DON'T select the chek box allow page breaks with in content
4. pagination tab: place: Following previous
                            after:continue filling parent
                           overflow: none.
Binding tab property:
5.select check box: Repeat row for each data item
Then test..it would work for you...ALL THE BEST!!!

Newbie--AppleScript for InDesign CS5 help needed

How can I select a page number in a table (a text string as a Source) and have an AppleScript read that text string and convert it to an integer value?
I have to put over 1,200 hyperlinks into a document that already has page numbers in tables. Each page number (Source) will be assigned a hyperlink to go to that page (Destination).
The page numbers in tables are in the preface to my document, which is 44 pages in length.
The actual pages in the main body of my document are numbered 1-432. Thus, the 45th page in the document is Page 1 to the person reading it, and the 476th page is Page 432.
So if a table in my preface has a page number of 32, for instance, the actual page number I want as a Destination is 32 + 44, or page 76.
If I manually double-click to select the text of a number "x" in a table as a Source, I want to write a script that when invoked will
• read the text string I have selected
• convert it to an integer value equal to the number in the text string
• add 44 to that value
• create a hyperlink that goes to the destination page number that corresponds to that value

How do I import an InDesign tagged text file into multiple pages and export as .ps or .pdf using Jav

I have an InDesign tagged text file I've translated from .xml. I need to automate the following steps:
1 - access specific InDesign template (eg. ABC_template.ind)
2 - import tagged text file into InDesign
3 - autoflow text to END of document (normally around 3-5 pages)
4 - save document as either .ps or .pdf file
5 - where the input file stub name matches the output stub name (eg., OrigName.txt outputs as OrigName.pdf).
I would like to completely automate this whole process using JavaScript (because I don't know anyone that knows AppleScript). I've automated the first part using a perl script. I've been trying to find sample snipits of JavaScript that would do one or more of the items listed above, but am having a hard time finding what I need.
Please, I'm desperate!! Can any of you InDesign scripting guru's out there help me??

InDesign CS5.5 crashes when deleting empty pages. Help!

Hello all,
I'm having an issue with InDesign CS5.5 running on 10.7.5. I have two empty spreads that I need to delete but everytime I try to, it prompts:
"The affected pages contain objects. Delete the pages anyway?"
I click Okay and InDesign crashes all the time. There are no objects on the page, I've applied no master, unhid and unlocked everything and can't figure it out! Does anyone have a solution?

Thanks for the speedy reply! I exported my "corrupt" InDesign file to .IDML and re-openned it. I was able to delete the extra pages which had some .psd files on it that I couldn't see earlier.
My question is can I just re-save this .IDML file back as a .indd file? What changes happen in between .IDML and .INDD if any? Everything looks the same to me but I was wondering if anything changed. Thanks!

Indesign CS5 crashing public.dll when copying pages from one document to another

I have several Lenovo W520 (Core i7-2720, 8GB ram, Quadro 1000M) and a couple Dell M6500 (Core i7, 4GB ram, Quadro FX 2800M) all running Windows 7 Pro x64, the latest video drivers and Adobe CS5, including Indesign 7.0.4. We have several different Indesign docs that for the purpose of interactive Table of Contents, are copying pages from one to another to end up with one master document. On the majority of the documents, copying as few as one page to another doc crashes Indesign with the windows system error below.

ORA-06502 on "Help Text" region when changing pages on a tabular form

We are developing an application on Apex 4.1.0.00.32. This application have some pages with tabular forms and these pages uses a page zero as template. In this page zero, we have added two sidebar regions: a list region to navigate on the application and a help text to describe how to use our application.
The problem occurs when the tabular split the records into pages (since it has more records that it can show on a single page). When the user clicks to change to another page, Apex raises an ORA-06502: PL/SQL: numeric or value error as described below:

There are no conditions on the region, and no date string within the Help text. Some HTML tags, that's it.
The Help region renders fine the first time.

I need to install my existing photoshop into new pc

I need to install my existing photoshop into my new laptop as this one is about to crash. Please infor how to download and move to new pc.

I have CS6 on my laptop and need to transfer it to my desktop/ I have copied it onto a memory stick (as previously advised by yourselves) and thence onto my desktop. I now get error message 1 and advice to uninstall, but nones of the exe files work so what do I do now? Waited 18 minutes on the phone this pm really do not have time for this can someone please help.

InDesign CS5.5 freezing upon opening new document Lion 10.7.3?

Hi there,
When launching CS5.5 InDesign, I select 'New document'. After it is setup (1-2 seconds), it freezes and InDesign is non functional and you have to force quit.
My console log states:
CFURLCreateWithBytes was passed these invalid URLBytes: ‘/Applications/Adobe InDesign CS5.5/Adobe InDesign CS5.5.app/Contents/Frameworks’ (a file system path instead of an URL string). The URL created will not work with most file URL functions. CFURLCreateFromFileSystemRepresentation should be used instead.
The freeze occurs in the admin account and logged in domain user.
I have tried updating InDesign- nothing.
Uninstalling through Adobe uninstaller and reinstalling- nothing.
Not using plugins. We are using Extensis Universal Type Client but I wuit it and turned off the Core to see if that helps- nothing.
Ive repair permissions- nothing
Rebooted- nothing
I ended up upgrading to CS6 and had no problems. I would like to resolve this CS5.5 issue though. Any help?

I copied Mac OS: [Startup Disk]/Library/Applications Support/Adobe/SING/Mark II/Datastore to the desktop and deleted it from that directory. Did the same for the Mark II folder (Solution 2)
-Failing that the first time, I uninstall/reinstall and didnt bother to update, which is why you see the original InDesign. I'll try and update InDesign and move to 10.7.4 to see if that does anything. My
Mac OS: [Startup Disk]/Library/Applications Support/Adobe/SING/Mark II/Datastore does not currently have these folders because I took them out. Maybe I'll run the crash report again and post it. I have to wait for the designer to finish for the day. I'll update possibly tomorrow.

Help!! adding new pages to doc with logo!!!

I've posted various questions for a couple hours now, none are answered. Is everyone sleeping or does no one know how to use Pages?? I'm near tears and I've read the manual about 10 times and don't understand it. I've tried to Google it but I'm not even sure what exactly to Google.
I have an 18 page document in Pages. It's just a plain old word processing document. A list of Gluten Free restaurants in my area. I add new restaurants to this list all the time so it needs to re-order itself as it does as a plain word processing document.
I want to brand it more so I'm putting my logo and a little design in the bottom left corner of each page, or at least thats how I'd like it to look.
So I set up page one, saved it as a template, captured it, done everything I can think of. But when I copy the document and paste it into the text boxt on the first page of the new document with the little logo on the page, all the subsequent pages do NOT have that logo on them. Just the first page.
IF I set up 18 pages with the logo, and then paste it just adds 17 blank pages after that first page with the logo. And those 17 pages that I set up prior to pasting are after the pages it added after the paste that have no logo.
How do it get this to add a page with the logo in the corner??
So when I add 5 new restaurants and it has to add a page to fit them it it will have that logo. This can't be that hard to do. I need the doucment to automatically add new pages when text is add and those pages need to have the logo,
Please help me!!!

I'm sorry you think that Peter and it isn't true. Maybe you are testy because its 2 am.
I spent hours trying to figure it out on my own. I looked all over these forums, I Googled it, I went to other Apple tips and forums I am familar with, went thru the manual. I tried a lot of places first so I really don't think I'm demanding and I'm sorry if I came off that way.
I was just super frustrated. Not being very computer savvy can be super frustrating, often I find what I "think" might be the answer for something I'm looking for and I can't even understand the answer. I try, I follow the steps but some of the terms I don't know and then have to google and follow more steps and blah blah.
I'm sorry but I didn't just come here without doing research first for the answer, so its not fair to say I expected others to do the work for me. I did try. I agree the information here us beyond useful, I never could have done anything without out in the past, I've used it many times. But you can shoot the messenger if you want but the response time does seem slower. Not sure why you take that personally.

Display Text Items in New Page

I am currently designing a Content Area for our new site and have come across a problem which I really need to find a way round.
I am adding HTML articles as text items into the Content Area. For the interface, I am using a Portal page and publishing the Content Area as a portlet onto this page. I need to do it this way rather than exposing the actual Content Area page as our organisation needs to use an external style sheet on the page for accessibility purposes.
What I need to be able to do is when a user clicks on the link for the item, it will open up inside a blank page inside the same browser window, preferably with a template added to it. I know there is actually an option to set the item to display inside a blank page but this 'blank' page is actually the Content Area page and this uses the internal Portal style.
There doesn't seem to be any way of specifying your own template for a Content Area page which is pretty much what I need to do.

Very good to know! I ended up logging an SR after all, and included your post to help guide the support rep.
I'm pretty sure it's a server side problem, because the MIME type is served up incorrectly. IE seems to handle text/plain encoded that are actually HTML more gracefully than Firefox.
(As for handling anything else gracefully, well... that's another story :-) )

Help creating tables in new pages

I need to add a few pages to my website, so I've created a few blank pages by going file> new> page from template. I then try to add a table to the content box of the page, but this message appears: "making this change would require changing code that is by a template or translator. This change will be discarded."
Can someone help me figure out how to get tables into my page?

InDesign 6 not responding when adding new pages

Hi folks,
I'm having a continuing problem that sees InDesign 6 "not responding" every time I try to add a new page or duplicate a spread on a document I'm working on.
This doesn't seem to be a problem on a new document - only on my working file, which is due at the printer tomorrow!!
Can anyone offer any advice as to what the problem may be.
Typically, I need an answer ASAP.
