Newbie needs tutorial to animate arrows exploding in a starburst

Hi, I need help with an animation. Maybe it's impossible. I'm new to Motion and need to animate arrows on a map, exploding from a central point in a sort of starburst. Just to make it difficult, I'd like the arrows to curve upwards in a 3d curve like rockets spraying out in a circle. Can anyone point me to a tutorial please? Thanks, Phil

Start searching for particles, replicators, and 3D in Motion. If you're totally new to motion graphics and animation systems, this could take you several days to figure out just how to set it up. Perfecting your effect could be out of the question since you will be using 3D objects, a camera, lights, motion blur, a replicator or particle system, and advanced rendering options.
Start by searching for particle systems tutorials. I'm jsut saying the effect you've described can go two ways: Adequate, or Totally Cool. Depends on your patience and proclivity for new stuff that is not entirely intuitive.
Search for Patrick's "fun with" series of tutorials and project files.

MacBook - Newbie: Need help on printing to XP shared printer
Bear with me please. I read tons of articles on this but somehow as a newbie to MAC (girlfriends sick daughter), I am missing something. 10.5.2
Currently, she can print directly if we plug in the HP Deskjet printer directly via USB to the MACBook. No problem.
When we first got the MACBOOK I tried setting up the MACBOOK wirelessly to recognize the workgroup where the printer was attached via USB to the Windows XP PC. However it printed out garbage since I did not know there was a difference between XP printing and MAC (Gutenberg/gimp printing/drivers).
Now I know there is a difference.
But in reading various instructions, I no longer can find how to connect the MAC to the Windows workgroup. Note we do have a printer set up currently as USB-HP Deskjet on the Macbook (not sure I need to delete it yet).
I went to System Preferences on MACBOOK and clicked on printers, more printers. In the drop down box was CANON, APPLETALK, IP HP printing and Firewire. There was no WINDOWS selection as I saw in other online web instructions.
So not sure how to proceed to find a way to:
    1. Connect to Windows workgroup (click on what exactly), step by step please!!
    2. Add correct HP Deskjet 5490 printer (perhaps there is one with Gutenberg or perhaps I need Gutenprint-really not sure what I am talking about)
Thanks so much in advance. Fiancé's kid has had her cancer recur in a different place and someone was nice enough to buy her a MACBOOK as a gift.
    Sincerely
    Peter

OK...I figured it out...no need to reply.  I noticed that there was another Protocol to use to set up the printer on the Mac, I was using LPD, so I switched it to HP Jet Direct-socket, and it prints fine...thanks.  I am curious as to why LPD wouldn't work; if anyone has that answer I would like to know...thanks
Any chance of posting the Protocol you used to connect to your printer with your laptop?  I'm have the exact same problem printing from my MB.  Same error message "..is busy".

Help, I need tutorial Falsh portuguese

I have no experiance with workers in AIR, but I think you are assuming that things work like HTML5 web workers, which they do not.  Check out the ActionScript3 dpcs to see how they work:

Not sure how you can bridge the webkit environment with AS3 workers.  Seems to be unchartered territory.

  • Newbie question (tutorial pointers needed)

    Hi, folks
I am new to this tool, Dreamweaver. I heard of that it's
convenient to use it to create website. I am wondering if any one
can give me a pointer to start to learn this tool. My background is
in the backend and some interface using Java, JSP and I used to
hand-code the pages. I never use a tool like this and hope it will
speed up setting the site and polish the interfaces of the site.
Btw, I just installed Micromedia Dreamweaver MX 2004 in XP.
    Thanks a lot in advance!

  • Newbie needs help with MS exchange / MS Push email

I just got an iPhone 3G a few days ago. Heretofore, all my experience has been with HTC, Motorola and Blackberry phones. As a non-technical person trying to make Pust work through my network is very confusing.
I read the instructions / bulletins and finally made email and calendar work (sort of). It only works on WiFi and then I have to manually update mail as it does not always Push.
Does the iPhone Push setup only work with Server 2003 / Push via WiFi? If not, can anyone give me step by step instructions on how to make it work with 3G and no WiFi?
If possible, please be specific as I am a newbie trying to make this work for my small company.
If I can't find a solution I'll have to get rid of this and go back to something that works.
It seems that Apple is making it very difficult to set this phone up for Push application
    Thanks,
    Gary

The iPhone works fine over cellular. You did mention a certificate - I am going to guess that this may be the issue.
If you open Safari on the iPhone and connect to your OWA, do you get a warning? When you viewed the cert in IE, is it self-signed? If so you need to get it on the iPhone. The easiest way is to set up gmail or something similar on iPhone and email it to yourself.
when it come in email your iPhone will immediately recognize it as a file that you can import it. Select it and import it, then you should be able to connect to your Outside Exchange server.

  • AE "newbie" needs help with effect - (please!)

    Hi all:
I'm working on a highlight video of my daughter - she's the goalie for her H.S. Lacrosse team.  I recently bought the Creative Cloud subscription. I'm editing the video in Premiere Pro CC on an iMac - OSX 10.7.5.
I'm putting together a short intro/open, and trying to add some effect to my daughter in the clip shown below.  She is running/jumping - I want to be able to isolate just her and add some sort of color effect, a glow (or even just make everything else b&w).  Obviously, my problem is with masking or roto brushing.  I've spent many hours (probably too many!) watching tutorials and reading the help articles -- and I just can't seem to get it right.  I saw a video talking about the much anticipated October update - and wondering if the new Mask Tracker will do what I need/want?
Here is the clip - (my daughter is #11 - the only one wearing a helmet)
Thanks in advance for any guidance/help/suggestions you can provide,
    Kim

Thanks again for pointing me in the direction of the Motion Tracking and Rotoscoping tutorial.
I successfully (in my opinion, anyway!) was able to apply an effect to the moving object (my daughter ).  There are a few places that I could tighten up the mask, but it's not too bad - and I just realized I forgot to feather the mask - so that will help as well.
I tried a bunch of different effects -- but really wasn't happy with any of them.  I went ahead and just made her B&W just for illustrative purposes.
What I'd really like to do is make the background B&W and keep her in color.
I tried applying the B&W effect onto the footage layer -- but it seemed to make everything b&w - including my masked/rotoscoped object. I am sure that it is very simple to do -- but haven't been able to find the right instructions.
(I looped the clip a few times - since it is only about 1.5 seconds long)..
So - again - thanks in advance for helping me figure out how to apply the B&W to just the background!

  • Flash CS5 Newbie - Need help adding URL link to animated banner

I apologize if this is a very basic question, but I am a newbie at designing in Flash. I have created a basic animation in Flash CS5 and I need to add a clickable URL link to it. I've tried a few tutorials that looked promising, but none of them solved my problem. I've tried a number of things including converting parts or all of the images to simple buttons or movies and linking them that way as well as typing in code for ActionScript 2 and 3, none of which were successful. The animation plays correctly when viewed in my browser, but when I click on it, the link does not work. I would prefer that the entire banner be clickable to take viewers to the linked website rather than using hyperlinked text. Also, when I open the Code Snippets window, it is empty, no matter what image or frame I've selected. Do I need to import code snippets from somewhere or am I simply going about things the wrong way? Any help is greatly appreciated!

It all depends whether you're decisively using AS2.0 or AS3.0 .
In the latter, you would need to use a URLRequest() method in conjunction with a navigateToUrl() call (not sure the exact syntax for navigate to Url, it might be a capitalized "URL" in the method but the request takes a String argument such as http://www.adobe.com)

  • Flash newbie needs help

i'm quite a newbie when it comes to flash and need some help
    http://www.sas.se/sv/?vst=true
you look to the right you'll see an airplane and i'll say "Billiga avgångar" next too it
under the text you can see text in yellow being scrambled then reappear
i was wondering how you make the text scramble then display the messeage like that?

this is a better way to do it in one textfield.  it's easily amended to display one letter per textfield and add textfields as needed.
(to speed up the display shorten charS even down to a one character string.)
    var charS:String = "abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyzABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ 01232456789,./<>?;':\"[]{}\|!@#$%^&*()-_=+";
    var charA:Array = charS.split("");

  • Any Updates Made to the T540 ready to ship? Newbie Needs Help.

Total newbie with Lenovo.  Lenovo is offering the T540p ready to ship for  about $650.  Is this the same track pad that got all the negative reviews or have any improvements been made?  I'm new to the forum and not a power user.  I maintain a website for a herding dog rescue and edit and move pictures and or video around a couple times a week.  If I use a mouse will this computer work for this?

    Hi Venkat,
I suggest to remove Gantt Chart view and Entry table from Eglobal. These are default views from client and it is highly recommended to not use them in Enterprise Global.
Whatever a user ist doing on a view or table which is included in Enterprise Global will be reset on next open - therefore you receive this message.
If you need some server wide defined views and tables, create them. But remove Gantt Chart and Entry.
    Does that help?
    Regards
    Barbara

  • Newb needs help opening file browser and getting full file name and path.

Ok, so I'm a TOTAL newb here, but I have managed to get it to open a file browser but all I can seem to get it to do is give me the NAME of the selected file *eg. selectedFile.name* I also need the path of the file as in C:\example\file.mp3.
The program I'm making plays an MP3 of your choice at a certain time, like an alarm clock. But I got tired of entering the file path of the MP3 EACH time so I wanted to have a browse feature.
    Ideas... help... thanks...
    Nicholas

you'll need to use air to get the path.

  • Need Tutorial for Simple Voice Recording

I'm running for public office, and a local newspaper invited me to submit a statement along with a MP3 audio file. I asked a question on another forum about software that can be used to make MP3 files on a Leopard platform, and I was told to use GarageBand.
I viewed the video tutorial for Podcasts and also checked out another Apple tutorial, but they don't go very far. In contrast, GarageBand 3: Getting Started is overwhelming.
I would like to start by making a very simple audio - nothing more than a two-minute recording of my voice, with no overlaid music, no images, loops or other enhancements.
Can anyone list the steps I need to follow, from recording my speech to converting it to an MP3 file?
I've cliked the Male track, recorded my voice, stopped the recording (though probably incorrectly), then double-clicked on the file to play it back, but nothing happens.
    Thanks.

    It's very easy:
    • Create a "real instrument" track and select a voice preset or no effects at all.
    • Hit "record" to record your voice, hit the record button again or the stop button to stop recording.
    • Move the playhead to the appropriate position for playback.
    • If you like your recording, select "Share to iTunes" from the menu and select compression with MP3.

  • Another Newbie Needs Your Help!

I'm going to try to make this quick, but there is an
    important backstory to my problem.
I grew up living in Fullerton, California, until about 10
months ago. I still call Fullerton my home and take pride in it.
About 4 years ago, I started playing guitar; about 2 years
ago, I started lusting over a Fender Stratocaster. Fender Musical
Instruments was started by Leo Fender, a radio repairman who
created the first mass-produced electric guitar in his workshop in
Fullerton (coincidentally I went to the same high school he did as
    well).
Health problems made him sell Fender to CBS; when he got
better, he got with some friends and started the Music Man company.
A falling-out with said friends resulted in him dissolving ties
with the company. But then he got together with his long-time
friend and descendent of the founders of his hometown, George
Fullerton, and started G&L (George & Leo) Guitars. G&L
still builds guitars in Fender's own factory, the original factory
of Fender guitars, in Fullerton, even though Leo passed away in
    1991.
A couple months ago I heard about G&L and, looking at the
website, I realized that these were the exact guitars I'd been
looking for--sooo much more than a normal Fender guitar (CBS has
since taken Fender in different directions than Leo would have,
even moving production to Corona, California) and still made in my
hometown. The website, unfortunately, lacked pictures of the exact
color and model of guitar I wanted, a similar problem I experienced
on Fender's website. Having built upon my 12 years of experience
and know-how with photoshop, I had taken a high-resolution photo of
a Fender Stratocaster and had made custom shapes out of every piece
of the guitar so that I could customize and colorize the thing to
my heart's desire. But the shapes changed to G&L shapes once I
    heard of G&L.
Well, after a little tinkering, I had my dream guitar, and
posted pictures in the forum of G&L. Two days later the CEO of
G&L contacted me with the offer of swapping a guitar for some
webwork. I'm ecstatic! A $2000 guitar just for something I do as a
    hobby? Plus *******' resume material...
Anyway, the Photoshop work is easy; but I don't want static
pictures of my artwork on any website. Optimally, I wanted to
figure out how to build a guitar customizer using Flash, and Mr.
CEO is more than happy to follow my train of thought. Problem is,
I've taken one college-level beginning Flash class but still feel I
know nothing aside from being able to animate something, which I do
    using a USB pen-and-tablet to make mini-cartoons.
So I've been google-searching macromedia flash tutorials
looking for someone that can help me build a customizer.
I know of a couple examples:
    DUBMODDER: VW Customizer
MINIUSA: Build your own MINI Cooper
Now I'm not afraid to work hard, and I have a great sense of
an artistic, streamlined, and web-friendly style, as I've done web
work with photoshop before. I also catch on with any computer
program very quick; I took an 8-week college class in 3DS Max and
completed it with the highest grade in the class and left my
instructor with no doubt that I was one of the very few who didn't
need to take the course over to pick up anything better.
These are the two examples I have on Photobucket of my
guitars; they're the same model, the only difference is body and
headstock color. These are the two options I'm considering, though
of late I've leaned towards the green:
    Translucent
    greenburst with matching headstock
    Translucent
    orange with black headstock
Every individual component of the guitars is its own custom
shape; so styling and coloring is a breeze, plus getting them up on
the screen individually is a breeze as well. I just need to know
how to get it so that through a series of menu bars, radio buttons,
and checkboxes, I can include all the options available to someone
who would be purchasing a guitar and have a realtime, interactive
picture of the guitar displayed either below or to the right of the
    options bar.
Oh, and another note: each of my pictures above is scaled to
25% original size but uncompressed. Being vector graphics, everyone
here knows how high they can be scaled without loss of detail.
Thanks in advance, and if I get significant help, mention
will not be forgotten to this forum and the significant
    helpers.

    Welcome,
but if you want help, you really must avoid the thesis-style
posts - not too many here have time to
read a life biography as interesting as it may be - and after
reading most of it I am still not sure
what your question is - there's nothing specific in your post
other than what brought you to this
    point in your career/hobby.
I would suggest keeping your question very direct and to the
point and in as few words as possible -
many of us have clients and deadlines and not a lot of time
to devote to answering questions. Take
this as constructive critism only please - i read your post
and still don't know what answer(s) you
    are looking for.
(also helps to provide a descriptive subject sso when we scan
the posts we can see the topic
involved and know ahead of time if we can answer them -
subjects that are general and vague like
"Nebie needs help" tend to get skipped over by the majority).
    hope this helps.

  • Newbie -- need advice

    Hi
I have been trying to figure out on my own (getting confused in the process) what the best settings, discs, etc.. to use for a project I am about to begin for my sons school. Not only do I need to create this to be projected at school, but I also am in charge of making copies for the 80+ students.
Since I do not know what dvd players will be viewing the completed slide show -- what would be the most universal settings to burn the discs as well as the type of discs to use? ( dvd+r, dvd-r or dvd-dl )
Any help would be greatly appreciated
    Thanks

Just to add to Bengt's information,
First, what kind of project are you going to make? How long will it be?
Is this a collection of photos only?
If so, you can create a slideshow of them directly in iDVD. You can add background music as well, and transitions from one photo to the next. However, you cannot add titles (unless you are just going to use the photo's title from iPhoto), and you will not be able to add individual titles, effects or transitions. But, the quality of the photos is better than other methods.
Second, if you are adding any video clips, you will need to use iMovie. I prefer iMovie 6 for this type of project. You can import and edit video clips, add still photos and create a stunning movie with effects, transitions, titles and sound. I recommend that you view this helpful tutorial to get some good information:

Third, how is the final project to be projected? Usually, a projector can be connected to a laptop playing the finished DVD.
Bengt is correct about the DVD format; DVD-R is more widely accepted. Be sure to use a good brand like Verbatim or Maxell or that one he recommended if you can find it. I always use Verbatim. Don't use any off brands or cheap ones. Many problems with Memorex.
The limitation on burning a DVD is in time, not the size of the project. (see my thoughs below).
Regarding burning the DVD: however you make your project, you will be putting it into iDVD, so you will need to select one of its themes, and do some edits in your iDVD project. When you have it to your liking, do a 'Save as Disc Image' to your desktop. The disk image creating process looks like a burn, but will make an exact copy of your iDVD project as a disk image file. You can use this disk image to do the actual burning, and it will go faster since the encoding is already completed.
You can do the burn from Disk Utility (found in your Applications folder). Just drag the disk image onto the left side of the window where the computer and any drives are listed. Click on the image to highlight it, select burn, insert a blank DVD, and then select the burn speed from the dropdown bar that says Maximum allowed. Don't select anything greater than 4x. I burn all my DVDs at 4x. Be sure to do as Bengt said regarding letting the drive cool a bit in between disk burns. 80+ is a LOT, so allow yourself time to burn maybe 10 a day, every other day or so.
My thoughts on the length: Even though a single layer DVD can hold up to 120 minutes of content, most people zone out after watching 20-25 minutes. If this project is of the kids at school and their activities, you know that those viewing it will be interested in some of the kids, but their main interest will be in their own children, so try to keep it moving, lively, funny and interesting to the very end! Use good editing, and don't put in everything you have or you will make a large project that will take lots of time and will not be enjoyable to watch.
I have made and worked with several school projects involving kids' activities, and it can be a very rewarding and fun thing to do. Don't get stressed.....remember, if you don't do it, they won't have it, so anything you do will be appreciated by the kids and parents
