  • Newbie Question - Best Method of Burning to DVD?

    Hi, I apologize in advance for how easy this question may be. I recently edited 20 minutes of footage for a friend and I'd like to have it burned to a DVD.
    In the past, I've burned plenty of video files with Nero but this project exports as a 4.3gb file, which won't fit on the DVD. I know next to nothign about codecs and such. The file type I used was Microsoft DV AVI and the Compressor was DV NTSC, frame size is 720 by 480 and pixel aspect ratio is D1/DV NTSC (0.9). I hope this helps... I believe these were chosen by default.
    I just want to be able to burn it to a DVD or export it as a manageable file size to burn later, without sacrificing too much quality, as the quality is already pretty poor.
    Thanks for any help :D

    Encore will compress the file to MPEG for you.

  • Newbie question - how to make an autoplay dvd?

    Forgive the rank beginner question, but here goes. I have a 3.5Gb, uncompressed 8-bit .mov file that I want to burn to a dvd. It should simply play on insertion, no menus, no other media, nothing. Seems like it should be simple in dvdsp, but I've been beating my head against this, so far with no luck. Any help you experts can provide will be much appreciated. Thanks.

    Set first play to the track as suggested. If you want it to loop set the end jump to the track itself. Usually it is a good idea to have a menu in case someone hits the menu button on the remote (or to stop playback) and put a button on that menu to go to the track. If you are looping a short movie (timewise) you may want to string a few on the track so that the player does not have to keep on repositioning back to the beginning. I know you mentioned 3.5 Gig 8 bit, but did not see the time, I didn't want to do the math right now
    Also if you search autoplay or loop --> this comes up often.
    You also want to encodde your video with Compressor and make the audio AC3 in all likelihood

  • Newbie Question, converting to ColdFusion

    Hello,
    We are converting to ColdFusion, and I am wondering if it is in fact possible. Currently, we use just HTML, with PHP and JS
    We are switching to a host that will only take coldfusion pages. Can I convert with no rewriting?
    I am useless at code, and have very limited knowledge, so I really need to know if it is possible, and if I can do it?
    I have dreamweaver CS4, Any insight or information is appreciated.

    Hello,
    We are converting to ColdFusion, and I am wondering if it is in fact possible.
    Yes it is possible, just about anything is possible.
    Currently, we use just HTML, with PHP and JS
    We are switching to a host that will only take coldfusion pages. Can I convert with no rewriting?
    No, CFML and PHP have to completely different syntaxes and many different functions and object to work with.  Nominally they both do the same thing, and a developer with resonable experience with web scripting languages can usually translate from one to the other fairly easily, but the ColdFusion engine is not going to understand PHP code.
    Now having said that, there are some blogs out there where some really geeky types with much time on their hands have sucessfully gotten recent versions of ColdFusion to use it's underlinging Java to make calls that will run other language syntax like PHP.  I can only suggest a search for something like "Running PHP in ColdFusion" in your favorite web search tool.

  • Very Quick Newb Question - Converting Float to String

    I created a small program that converts currency for the iPhone. Unfortauntely, I cannot get the UILabel to display my float value. Apparently, NS can though. I found a tutorial that told me simply to use this:
    [label setFloatValue:currency];
    label is the UILabel
    currency is the float value
    When I do that with the iPhone SDK, I get this error:
    warning: 'UILabel' may not respond to '-setFloatValue:'
    messages without a matching method signature will be assumed to return 'id' and accept '...' as arguments.
    Any quick advice would be appreciated!

    Simple requirements:
    label.text = [NSString stringWithFormat:@"%f", floatValue];
    More complex example:
    NSNumberFormatter *formatter = [[NSNumberFormatter alloc] init];
    [formatter setFormatWidth:2];
    [formatter setPaddingCharacter:@"0"];
    [formatter setPaddingPosition:NSNumberFormatterPadBeforePrefix];
    lable.text = [NSString stringWithFormat:@"%@:%@:%@",
    [formatter stringFromNumber:[NSNumber numberWithInt:hours]],
    [formatter stringFromNumber:[NSNumber numberWithInt:minutes]],
    [formatter stringFromNumber:[NSNumber numberWithInt:seconds]]];

  • How can I watch MKVs on a DVD player and keep 5.1?

    Hi,
    I have several MKV files which I want to convert to play in a DVD player/Xbox 360.
    I want to keep the hi def and 5.1 sound in the newly encoded file.
    I have tried using Handbrake with some success. The video is outputted in hi def and it plays in my Xbox but for some reason Handbrake keeps downmixing the audio to stereo.
    Is there a professional package that can do the job? How can I watch MKVs on my players and keep 5.1 surround sound?

    You need a Thunderbolt or mini DisplayPort to composite converter like this one:
    http://www.amazon.com/DisplayPort-Composite-Video-S-Video-Converter/dp/B004VIZWZ A
    Yikes, unless you can find one for much less than that, I'd put than kind of money toward a TV with HDMI connections.

  • DVD Player Application

    This is an insanely dumb question, but I accidentally dragged the DVD Player application to the trash and deleted it. I thought i was getting rid of the shortcut on the desktop, actually deleted the program. Anyhow, I was wondering if anyone knew of a way to reinstall that program, perhaps somewhere on the Apple site i could download it from, or from a start-up disc. If possible, without having to reinstall OS X. I know this question makes me sound dumb, but i haven't watched a DVD in months and i miss it.
    THANKS FOR ANY HELP!

    Hi Pirate,
    Welcome to Apple Disucssions
    You can download DVD Player 3.1.1 from here. Then upgrade to the newest one for your system.
    I hope that helps,
    Jon

  • How do I get DVD Player back?

    My CD player is working but DVDs (movies) are not--photos are. I think the DVD Player application is missing, following an inadvertent deletion. [The aliases are still there.] My question is, can I get the DVD Player application back? I want to upgrade my system software, and I have Tiger (which I believe is the highest my machine would comfortably go with 1.25 Ghz and 767 MB) but it seems I can't do that without the DVD Player application.
    Help Appreciated!
    Ruth

    I have a similar problem. Just updated an iMac 700 MHz Flat Panel to 10.3.9. It has no DVD player. After the fact I took and old Super Drive I had from my old iMac Flat Panel 800 MHz machine and installed it in the iMac 700 MHz flat panel. All is well and the drive works, but no Apple DVD Player. I tried installing DVD player 3.1 and it starts but quits immediately. I tried DVD player 4.6 and it requires Tiger or up to install. I need player 4.0 apparently. I tried to use Pacifist on the 10.3.9 updater and the player is not listed as a stand alone item. I ran the updater and no DVD player appeared. I also tried to run the installer from the 10.3 disk set and there is no option to install the player seperately.
    Any ideas out there? My iMac 800 MHz flat panel is running Tiger, so it has an incompatible player. I DO NOT want to update this machine to Tiger as it has a small amount of RAM (256 MB) and Tiger likes more memory.

  • Burning films to use in a DVD player

    Hi,
    I have bought several films & TV programes from iTunes for my ATV.
    Thay also show up on iTunes.
    Can I burn the MP4 download to a DVD to watch a DVD player.
    Regards,
    Jeff

    Can I burn the MP4 download to a DVD to watch a DVD player.
    No. iTunes can't create video DVDs, and backup DVDs aren't playable outside of a computer. If the files don't contain DRM, you might be able to burn them elsewhere.

  • DVD Player controls

    I am a Union stage hand and I do a lot of video projection work.
    Recently I was setting up a DVD player to feed a projector onto a 40' screen, but the manufacturer decided that users are all morons therefore it always shows On Screen Programming (Play, Stop, etc) whether I want it or not. (Any 'feature' of hardware and software that refuses to do what I want it do to and ONLY does what it thinks I want it to do, I call that Micro$oft.)
    Anyway, since using the DVD hardware players I had access to was out of the question, we are using Macs and DVD Player because I can send a clean video-only (no On Screen Moron graphics) to the projector.
    However, DVD Player is incredibly frustrating to cue up in a professional setting. My question is this:
    In DVD player 4.0, is there a single-frame-advance in reverse? When in Pause, the right arrow key will frame advance, but the left-arrow key does nothing (why on earth not???).
    (And to the Leopard design team, make a single-frame-reverse function, or be labeled Micro$oft by us professionals!!!)

    That's what I thought. It's amazing that Apple's DVD Player doesn't have this very basic functionality. I downloaded VCL's DVD Player and while it's more robust, I am having difficulties getting their hot-keys and/or functionality to work for stepping forward or backwards.
    Any suggestions of another stable (free or for sale) DVD Players?

  • DVD player - Drive Region Code

    Not sure if this is the right place to post this question...
    But in DVD player, I want to play a "foreign" DVD, ie, from the US (I'm in A ustralia). But I get a message that pops up that says that it can't play the DVD because it's on a different DRIVE REGION code. Apparantly you can change the code five times but after that you can't change it anymore.
    So my question... I can only change it one more time, after that is there ANY way that i can be changed again? Is there something (a driver perhaps?) that I can dwownload or even purchase?
    Your help is much appreciated!

    is it then possible to have two different DVD Player's going on my computer?? Not at the same time, but one won't override the other I imagine? How do I go about buying another one? I'll do a google search...
    Thanks for the tip!

  • DVD to play on TV DVD player -vs- DVD to play on computer

    Hello Folks,
    What is the main difference, in format, between the DVD's that you play on a regular DVD player attached to a TV and
    a DVD that plays on computers that have a DVD drive with DVD playing capabilities (like the ones that play on the Mac with the Apple "DVD Player")?
    Do you need to author or burn these differently or the same?
    Thanks!

    This place is pretty good
    There are some general rules - first read the tutorials and work through them (there may be some errors, but it gets you started), then play with some projects just for fun for yourself
    1.) Use good media for burning DVDs (non-replicated) if you are just making from your burner for others, burn at slow rate
    2.) aPac audio and be careful of using video rates that are too high if you are just making from your burner for others
    3.) Try not to fill a DVD to the brim if you are just making from your burner for others
    4.) Test Test Test before duplicating/replicating. And when you are done testing, make sure to Test. Partly tounge in cheek, but not. Proof in simulator only as a start, then build and watch in DVD Player (Apple) then burn a copy and test on a few machines
    5.) Play with video encoding settings to see what works for different types of material
    The majority of issues relate to players. There are discussions here about how to make DVD SP even better (dvdafteredit, etc.) which really gets under the hood. For the most part DVD SP does a real good job, particularly if you are not getting fancy (such as scripts) and you can produce a ton of projects that are fine. Some things some players get weird and DVD Players are all not the same. Windows computers can behave strange in general (for any DVD not just DVD SP) depending on DVD software, hardware and which version of WIndows Media Player, some DVD Players/Manufacturers are inconsistent in quality (one DVD player may work fine, others won't same model and make)
    And if you try enough machines you will find something weird at some point. I sent DVDs out for QC checks, came back perfectly fine (bunch of menus and buttons) except one DVD player for some reason would not work with one button on a menu. It worked with every other button on the menu, and worked with every other button on every other menu, but for some reason -:(
    Then of course check discs were redone and the problem went away, with absolutely nothing being changed on the menu...go figure

  • How to bookmark ripped DVDs on a macbook using DVD Player

    I have some video that I'm watching using dvd player - ripped on the hard drive for better battery performance (I presume) and also just ease when traveling ... and bookmarks are grayed out.. cannot seem to bookmark things opened as "dvd media" from the file menu. how can I bookmark where I left off so I don't have to re-open, and fast forward to where I thought I was?
    tia,
    ferd

    Have you ripped the file and kept it in DVD format?
    If you rip it using HandBrake ( http://download.m0k.org/handbrake/HandBrake-0.7.1-OSX.zip ) then it will compress the video to mp4 which will be much smaller but still near DVD quality - you can then add it to iTunes or the Movies tab (on the left hand side of the Finder) and then using Front Row (pressing command + esc or menu on the apple remote) and going to movies you can watch the video, then when you stop watching you can go back to it later and it should play from where you left off.

  • Newb Question for burning DVD/CDs

    I have an external DVD writer on my iMac.
    I got the thing last month and an completely new to Apple (sorta)
    Now how do I make a data CD and DVD?
    On Winblows XP all I need to do is select the files, right click and click on SEND FILES TO CD for making data CDs.
    However for DVD I need 3rd party software.
    Will iDVD do the trick?

    blank CD/DVD that appears in the
    Finder.However for DVD I need 3rd party

    hBurn.Will iDVD do the
    trick?No, iDVD is only for making video
    DVDs and it requires a G4 processor.
    Thanks for the tip Duane.
    I was just reading abotu burning CD on another site. It mentions about what you said, drag the files to the CD.
    However I am reading in my profiler that burning is NOT supported by OS X on this CD/DVD writer.
    Will Patchburn or any other software overcome this?
    Thanks
