Newbie Question: F4V file size is huge compared to .mov

Hi, I have a 28 MB .mov that I want to embed into a web page using Flash / Media Encoder. In Media Encoder settings it says the estimated file size will be 2486MB. Am I missing something? It is a long video of a ppt presentation (about 1 hour). I'm not concerned about quality, just file size.
Thanks!!!

The simplest and most overlooked is to change the background
image quality from "High" to "Standard" - this effectively does
just what you mentioned, decreasing color depth. This can be done
by selecting the slide(s) and using the "Slide > Video Quality"
menu for the change. The highest quality isn't always the default,
but check it on your slides to see. If the project is a converted
Power Point, for instance, the "High" quality setting is the
default...
If you notice "bleeding" of background colors, you may have
to increase the color depth (slide "video quality") on the affected
slide, to cure the problem.
Regarding your reference to "best practice", I recommend a
DevCenter article written by Dave Mozealous who was at that time a
staffer for the Macromedia Captivate team.
The
link is right here
Hope this helps get you sorted!
Some final personal thoughts:
First, since you appear to be a Flashie, keep in mind that
images in Captivate are stored, edited, and displayed as bitmaps,
which are much larger files then the vector-graphics you have
worked with in Flash.
Second,
any image of 1024 X 744 is going to be real -
real - big; and you are setting that as the size for every
background in your Captivate project. Sometimes that cannot be
avoided, but often people create large Captivate projects simply
because they haven't used the product long enough to realize what
problems that can cause. So if you can work with a smaller pixel
size for your projects, by all means, do so.

When I narrate my keynote presentation, why is the file size so huge?

Here are the steps so you can see all the files that make up your Keynote…
Go to the Finder and find your Keynote file and make sure that it has the .key extension on it. If it doesn't, click it and command i to view info and uncheck the box that says Hide Extension.
Delete the .key and change to .zip and then click the use .zip in the dialog box that comes up
Double click the new .zip file and it will change it to a folder
Open the folder there are the files
Close the folder and add .key to the end of the name and click Add in the dialog box (this will change it back to a Keynote file)
You might be able to do this and convert the voice narration to a smaller format.

  • Question of file size related to power point

I am a relatively new user to Premier Pro and currently have simple editing needs.  I am creating a powerpoint presentation in 2010 with multiple video clips (no audio).  The file size (powerpooint) has become too large (@ 300MB).  I plan to use a progam called Captivate to voice over the presentation.  This will then save and will be used on a secure webserver.  My concern is the file size will be unreasonable to download for the end user.  After much trial and error I chose to use WMV, H264p, 29.97 and changed the bitrate to 4000 to reduce the video size.  Other codecs would not show in powerpoint 2010 and quicktime created huge files.  I have 2 questions 1. any recommendations on reducing video file size without sacrificing quality (currently 1 min of video= @ 28MB).  Note I am using a fast blur to conceal patient's identity. 2. any suggestions on program similar to Captivate that may handle larger files for download.
    I appreciate any guidance.
    Thank you.

There's really only two ways to reduce the file size of a video clip - make it shorter, or reduce the bitrate.

  • SSRS report Excel Export file size is huge

    Hello everyone,
I am facing an issue with SSRS report exporting  to Excel.
Issue : Exported file size is too big.
I have a matrix report ( parametrized report ) it fetches data from multiple table.
    initially when
    1) I select all parameters all values
    2) load the report after that
    3) exporting to excel
so exported file size was about 10 Mb to 12MB
Now, suddenly from this month exported file size is too big around 62 MB for same data,
I checked on different forums and tried the solutions but it didn't worked,
can anyone please suggest me on this.
    My environment is
    Visual studio (BIDS) 2008
    SQL Server 2008 R2
    Excel 2007
    Thanks

    Hi UdayKGR,
According to your description, when you export a report into an excel file, the exported file size is too huge. Now you want to reduce the file size. Right?
In this scenario, do you export the report into excel 2003 file? When reports are first exported and saved to Excel 2003, they do not benefit from the file optimization that Excel automatically applies to its *.xls workbook files. The larger file size can
cause problems for e-mail subscriptions and attachments. To reduce the size of the *.xls files for exported reports, open the *.xls files and then resave the workbooks. Resaving the workbooks typically reduces their file sizes by 40 to 50 percent. Also please
try to install the Reporting Services 2008 R2 Service Pack 2 and reduce the merged columns in exported excel file. For more information, please see the links below:

  • Export to Word file size is huge

Sometime after the end of March, the "Export to Word..." action in Pages has started producing very large file sizes.  The Pages file itself will be 119KB, but after exporting to .doc, it will become 1.5MB.  I have to export Pages files to Word all the time, to submit files to submission systems that have max file sizes, so I've been unable to upload my files, which is obviously a problem (and didn't used to be).
To fix this I have tried... restarting.  I have deleted the Pages plists, restarted.  I have tried exporting on a different computer with the newest version of Pages, which produced the same file size result.  I have copy/pasted the text into a new file, tried again.  Etc, etc.  In the end, I had to borrow a friend's computer to pull the 1.5MB Word export into Microsoft Word itself and resave, to get the expected smaller file size of 47KB.
Please help.  Or, if there is no solution, I'll report as bug to Apple Feedback.  Thanks!

To my knowledge all Pages 5 Exports have been particularly bloated.
Since I have not considered Pages 5 worth using for serious work I can't compare between Pages 5.1 and Pages 5.2 as to whether the problem has actually got worse.
All I know is that Pages 5 files & Exports are massively bigger than Page '09 files & Exports.

  • Exported mp3 file size is huge!

Does anyone know how to control the size of an exported song? For a 5 minute track I'm getting a 60Mb MP3!! I'm guessing this is done by setting the a different bit rate for the exported song but can't find any options in Garageband to do this.
With such huge file sizes it makes it difficult to share the song through my website.

No, you're not getting a 60 MB MP3, but a 60 MB AIFF file, and that's the regular size for uncompressed audio files. The bitrate in GB is fixed, and you wouldn't want to change it. Instead, convert the file into an MP3 or AAC in iTunes.
(Come back if you need help with doing that.)

  • Question about file size when using "Export for Web"

    Hi!
I created a .mov file and worked to get a great balance between file size and quality so that I could deliver it via the web and make it easier for end users to see the video on a slower connection.
My question: When I use "Export for Web," my .mov file is converted into a very large .m4v file--more than double the size of the original file. I know that this export option is to optimize the file for a wide variety of users/internet speeds. Am I correct in guessing that the end size is not an issue? I would post the .mov file instead, but I really like the option of embedding into a html page along with the "click to play" option.
Bottom line--is it better to post the smaller .mov file that i originally started with or to go ahead and link to the bigger .m4v file that was created with the "Export for Web" option?

"Export for Web" is a feature of QuickTime Pro and it makes 4 files and the html page code for easy copy/paste Web page editing.
The very first file is called a "reference movie" and it links to the other 3 files (56kbps, 900kbps and 1.5Mbps). It, and the page code, "read" the connection speed of the viewing hardware and "serve up" the correct file based on that connection speed.
In nearly all cases the "Desktop" version would still be smaller in file size than the original source. The times the file would "increase" in file size would be when an already compressed was used as the source file. You can find out more about your source file by opening it in QuickTime Player and viewing the Movie Inspector window information.
There are dozens of other html "tricks" that could be used if your source file is already compressed but you want a different display size:
Page code to show "aspect" or scale="tofit". This code allows values "outside" of those found in the actual QuickTime file be used for the Web page display. A 320X240 QuickTime .mov file looks pretty good at double size (640X480) but the file size would still be that of the source file.
"Poster Movie" is another html trick that loads the Web based file directly in the QuickTime Player application (bypassing Web page layout restrictions). These files are also known as "Presentation Movies".
Another method is the QuickTime Media Link file (.qtl). These are simple text based files that are used as a "direct link". These use simple XML (Extensible Markup Language) and are easily created in any text editing application. The simple syntax has amazing control over a simple QuickTime .mov file. You can launch (and quit) the QuickTime Player, display at other dimensions and even embed "links" inside the display.
Some of my files as examples:
    http://homepage.mac.com/kkirkster/Lemon_Trees/ a "Poster Movie" style.
    http://homepage.mac.com/kkirkster/.Public/RedneckTexasChristmas.qtl
A QuickTime Media Link file. A tiny file should download to the viewing machine, launch QuickTime Player, present the movie and it even includes a "link" to my Web page.
Edit: It appears you must now double click the .qtl download to launch QuickTime.

  • Trace file size is huge

    HI Experts,
In my production database one trace file alone getting created in huge size, could you please make me aware of the reason behind this and solution to this.
    Path:/oracle/admin/proddb/bdump
    proddb_j000_17828.trc /5G/
    Regards,
    Salai

You can limit trace file size using MAX_DUMP_FILE_SIZE db parameter if you have a free space problem too.
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b14237/initparams116.htm#REFRN10103
But of course this wont solve your original issue. Try to analyze content of the trace file and try to solve the base issue.

  • Why are Preview saved file sizes so HUGE?

We have a neat copier at work that will scan in a document and email the pdf to you. So I have a 100 page document that I scanned in 4 chunks that yielded 4 pdf files of about 2.5MB each. I opened the first in Preview and then dragged the remaining 3 files in to create my final 100 page document. When I did the Save command I was shocked to see the resultant file size came in at 27MB! I searched around the menus and tried a Save As and selected the option for just black and white. The file that was created when that command finished ended up being 67MB.
Anybody know how I can just get the originally expected 10MB file size? Many thanks in advance.

I just tried the Combine PDFs program and it also yielded a 27MB file size when the sum of all the input files was only 10MB. So now I'm really confused. If I had to take a guess, I'd say the pdf format supports some kind of compression and both Preview and Combine PDFs can read in compressed pdfs but can't write them. I still need to get down to the 10MB size (because I can't email the file 27MB size I ended up with) so I'm still looking for help.

  • Rendered video's file size is HUGE!!!

Hello! I have a little problem with AE and I hope that there's something wrong with it. I had a 30 sec video which I only did some minor color correction and other small tweaks in. Before this, the file was 6 mb big, when I rendered it, it was 7.30 GB.
This is just silly. Is there anyway I can render my videos with good quality without getting these ridiculous file sizes?
At the moment I think I'm rendering .avi files.

  • Adobe Illustrator CS5 File sizes are huge!

    Try this:
    open a new Illustrator document
create a simple box, black stroke, white fill
    save the file
you're looking at something like 1 Mb for these 4 anchor points and the fill and stroke definition!
now, back in Illustrator, downsave to Illustrator 3 format
file size is in around 6Kb - much better!
Okay, I know we can disable ICC profile embedding, PDF compatibility etc, but none of that even comes remotely close to the "correct" file size of < 10Kb.
C'mon Adobe, what are you putting in that CS5 file that's so darned important? This isn't a complex illustration with gradient masks, 3D transforms and thousands of points.
I get it, everyone has terrabyte drives and high-speed internet. Is that an excuse to make really inefficient file formats?

    hmmmm......
As Monika pointed out... deleting the defualt library items will make files sizes drastically smaller.
I'd guess that version 3, since it lacked the ability to work in preview mode, didn't save file previews with the file either... that could easily account for 50kb.

If so, how do I get time machine to start afresh with my new Time Capsule?

  • Photoshop CC Uncompressed EXR File Size is Huge

    Hi,
I'm used to working with older versions of Photoshop CS, where I 'just save' exr with no options. This previously resulted in file sizes half that of .hdr. In this latest version if I choose to save uncompressed (which I assumed the old versions of Photoshop did?) the file size is a good 10x larger than they used to be. If I save as zlib or wavelet, they're similar size (a fair bit less than a .hdr).
What did the old Photoshop use for compression? Or how can I find out? I don't remember my old exrs taking so long to compress and save either (with zlib) but I might be wrong.
I'm not saving any transparency either (that I know of!).
    Regards,
    Jay

It probably used the basic zips compression like 90% of all EXR implementations. Not sure, though. I prefer using TIFFs or PSDs directly for working on 3D rendered images, the rest I do elsewhere...

  • Newbie question - SWF file download size

If I have say 20 different screens to display in a flex application, after I compile the size of the swf file would be quite big (5+Mbs apprx) for the browser to download.  Hence, the users will have a waiting state unless the SWF file is completely downloaded to the browser cache.  And if there are any update to the file the complete file will be again downloaded to the client.
I want to reduce this download time and ensure that users do not get tired of waiting for download to happen.  Preferably I would like to load the components/screens as and when required (like it is done in java web start).  Is something like this possible in flex?  If yes how?
One of the approaches is to have multiple SWF files say for every module.  Even in such cases the size of SWF file will be large enough for the user to wait.  It will also display a blank screen on the browser when switching from one SWF file to another (considering it will be done through HTML).
This is a practical problem and must be faced by a number of applications.  That makes me believe Flash must have something that provides dynamic loading of components as and when clicked.

  • PS CS6-Why are file sizes so huge?

My psd's are almost double the size as compared to similar files created from CS5. There are no vector objects, no huge amount of layers as compared to my older files and not a lot of visual information. It seems that a text layer consisting of 6 letters is about 3MB. I've turned of Autosave and Background saving in preferences. It doesn't seem to matter.

Maximize PSD and PSB Compatibility >> Never
    (from Adobe Help)
Maximize compatibility for PSD and PSB files
If you work with PSD and PSB files in older versions of Photoshop or applications that don’t support layers, you can add a flattened version of the image to the saved file.
Note: If you save an image in an earlier version of Photoshop, features that version doesn’t support are discarded.
Choose Edit > Preferences > File Handling (Windows) or Photoshop > Preferences > File Handling (Mac OS).
From the Maximize PSD and PSB File Compatibility menu, choose any of the following:
    Always
Saves a composite (flattened) image along with the layers of your document.
    Ask
Asks whether to maximize compatibility when you save.
    Never
    Saves only a layered image.
