Newbie question: how to monitor cluster disk drive free space

ok folks, it is a really painful process for me to use SCOM2007R2 and I figure it might be easier if I start to ask concrete questions.
1. I have a cluster server and I know some drives have only 10MB and they are not changing at all as I fixed them.  How can I use Monitor/Rules so that I could receive Alert?  I was told by our admin that SCOM only got triggered if status got changed
In my case, since the drive space will never get changed (fixed to 10MB left), I will never receive alert???
cheers
--Currently using Reporting Service 2000; Visual Studio .NET 2003; Visual Source Safe SSIS 2008 SSAS 2008, SVN --

"Logical disk free space" is the monitor that will be monitoring this.
Yes, SCOM will send alerts only when the Mbytes and % values of the free space ; mentioned in the monitor are met. You can configure this monitor by setting up correct Mbytes and % values   to change the state of this monitor and thereafter you
will receive the alerts from this monitor.
Hope this helps.

    Hi,
How about using Disk Quota function in FSRM (File Server Resource Manager)?
    Please see:

  • Hard drive free space discrepancy

I have an 11 inch Macbook Air with a 120GB SSD and I am running OS X Lion 10.7.5.
Every so often I get messages indicating my hard drive is nearly full. Since it is a small hard drive I never thought much of it and just deleted a movie or two I put on it for when I travel. But lately I realized that I keep all my music, photos, and bulk of my movie files on an external drive, so there really isn’t much on my computer.
When I add up all the files listed under My Mac HD in the finder, I get 62 GB. Add in the operating system and I come up with 75 GB of the SSD used. When I look at the storage summary on “About this Mac”, it says I am using 94 GB. There is about a 19 GB discrepancy. Does anyone know what could cause this and where 19 GB of data can be hiding?

Use a tool like OmniDiskSweeper 1.8 to find what's on the disk, where, and how large.

if your son is set as a child under your Family Share settings you should be able to turn on "Ask permission" for purchases. If you do have that on I don't know why it's not prompting him to ask.
Another way to stop in-app-purchases is to set restriction on his iOS device. (Turn off in-app-purchases under General/Restrictions)

  • How to monitor available disk space in archive directory

I need to monitor the available disk space of the archive directory during a long running PL/SQL program which does a lot of inserts and updates. This program is running in a background session and should regularly check for the available space. If there is less then a customizable number of MBs free the program must terminate itself. How can I access this information from the file system? (I'm using 8.1.6 and the application will run on both AIX and NT)

The directory itself is not taking space (It actually does but in most cases you can neglect its size). It is files that it has that take space. Also, the more files you create the more space gets allocates from the media that holds them. And the last, the media (Hard Drive, Floppy, or other) has free space, not directory. That is how all OS's that I know about work.

  • Newbie Question:  How much computer do I need?

    Newbie Question:
I would like to use MainStage 3 in a live performance environment to play bars, parties, etc.  I'm not looping, using it to playback recordings, processing outboard equipment or vocal processing.  I want to stop carrying Rolands, Nords, Korgs, etc and get to a controller and a rack with a Mac Mini in it.
I tested a download of Mainstage 3 on my home Mac Mini (late 2012, 3.5 Ghz i5, 4GB RAM, 500GB drive) and it seemed to run fairly well.  $30 well invested so I trekked forward... I purchased a Mac Mini (late 2009,  2.52GHz Core 2 Duo, 6GB RAM, 128GB SSD) for $200.  I started to do more elaborate keyboard setups to see how the CPU would hold up.  It typically runs from 30% to 50% of capacity (CPU and Memory)  It actually boots and runs better than the i5.  I hear the occasion gitch, but it actually seems to be getting better in time (or I'm rock and roll deaf.
I got a rack, an Airport Express, a Radial USB interface and a Nektar Panorama P6.  It's starting to get expensive, but I'm emboldened by the actual quality for the sound and the flexibility of arranging for live performance.  What used to take me two and three keyboards to play, I can now fit on one performance patch.
OK, now the question... am I at the limits of this little Core 2 Duo?  Should I upgrade the i5 with more RAM and a bigger SSD and use that?  Should I get a new(er) i7 and bite the $1,500 bullet for the additional RAM and SSD?
I see that most of you are running pretty nice Macbook Pros with i7 and lots of everything.  My needs are modest; am I OK?
BTW, I want to run a Mac Mini in a box because I don't want to carry a laptop out in the open.  If I was doing bigger shows I wouldn't care but I play some rowdy bars and constantly have folks hanging off me while I'm playing.  It's fun, but hard on gear.  If you can't drop it or dip it in beer, it won't last long where I work.
    Matt Donnelly

Rule of thumb: newer and faster is better. But, depending the complexity of your needs you may be OK with an older Mac. Some glitches that happen in a live performance are due to loss of communication with USB or Firewire inputs, so make sure they're secure. I recently upgraded from a 2010 Mac Mini 2.6 dual core with 16 GB RAM, which was used live for nearly four years, to the latest Mac Mini 3.0 i7 with 16 GB RAM and a 500 GB SSD. I was getting an occasional stuck note with the older one. The new one is rock solid. Some of my patches may have up to a dozen channel strips mapped to three keyboards. The Mini is mounted in a rack next to a MOTU Ultralite Hybrid. It is a good idea to map a panic button on your keyboard to controller # 123(all notes off). Also, you might want to invest in a battery backup power supply(APC, Cyberpower, etc.-$40-$60) to protect your Mac against power loss, which can damage you hard drive.

  • DV9925nr - How to Backup Hard Disk Drive After S.M.A.R.T. Drive Failure Message

I purchased a DV9925nr laptop from Bestbuy about 13 months ago. Six months ago it started having the sporadic and randomly abrubt shutdown problem that so many others seem to be having.
Two days ago it developed a new problem:
I left my laptop on for a few minutes and when I returned, it was to a black screen with this message: "SMART Drive failure predicted on Hard Disk 4. WDC WD2500BEVS - 60UST0-(S1); warning: Immediately backup your data and replace your hard disk drive. A failure may be imminent. Press F1 to continue."
    My question:
We have a network with two laptops and a desktop computer. There is plenty of hard drive space on the desktop system. My father has the same exact laptop model as mine. Can I put my hard disk drive into his second disk drive bay so that I can backup my files over the network to my desktop system? How would the laptop know which hard drive to boot from since they both have the same operating system on them (I am not familiar with SATA drives)?
I hope I didn't buy a lemon. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Are you trying to do this while booted from the OS or from the install Disk? If your booted into the OS then the repair option shouldn't be click-able. Beyond that, there might be some 3rd party software that could force a reformat and/or erase. I did try to find you something but didn't come across anything specific to what your trying to do. You probably already know this, but the purpose of S.M.A.R.T. is it acts as an early warning indicator. This means the drive is no longer dependable and may fail without warning in the near future, resulting in losing all data. With that being said, I've used a hard drive that S.M.A.R.T. indicated was failing for 3+ years without a hick-up. I don't use it for anything imported though. When I have more time and if I come across anything that might get the job down, I will add to this posting. The worst case scenario is that there is no way to reformat and/or erase the drive due to the state it's in. At that point, the only thing left to do is recycling the drive.

  • How to monitor hard disk in labview 8.2

    Hi ,
I want to using labview 8.2 program to  monitor hard disk(one folder in hard disk)  for example one application generate a result file to the folder then it  will be captured  by labview program.
    thank you
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

What exactly are you trying to monitor? If the file is created? If the file is changed?
Without resorting to some operating system specific options the only thing you can do is to poll the file information on a periodic basis to see if it has changed. For example, the File/Directory Info function will tell you the modication date. That same function can be used to check for the existence of the file by looking at the error code. In fact, that's exactly what the "Check if File or Folder Exists" VI does.
If you want a more "event-based" scheme then you can try something that's OS-specific. For example, on Windows you can use .NET by making use of the FileSystemWatcher class (http://forums.ni.com/t5/tag/FileSystemWatcher/tg-p/board-id/170)

  • BootCamp cannot create new partition on drive free space.

    Hi Folks,
I am hoping for some advice here. I am running OS X (10.5.6) and wish to use Boot Camp to created a partition to install Windows XP SP2 for some gaming. My machine is a late 2007 MBP 2.4GHz C2D, 4GB RAM, 340GB WD transplanted hard drive.
I have about 180GB of free space for a new partition to be created for the XP install.
When I fire up the Boot Camp Assistant tool, I am immediately informed of the following:
"The startup disk cannot be partitioned or restored to a single partition."
"Back up the disk and use the Disk Utility to format it as a single Mac OS Extended (Journaled) volume. Restore your information to the disk and try using the Boot Camp Assistant again."
+ I have never had more than one partition on this drive.
+ I installed the drive new with no partition and used a tool named 'Carbon Copy Cloner' to transfer data from the original drive onto this drive, the machine booted right away and I have been using it without issue ever since.
+ I have run Disk Utility to 'Verify Disk', 'Verify Disk Permissions' and 'Repair Disk Permissions' all ran with no problems and completed successfully.
My question is, how can I make a usable backup copy of the drive to restore back to the drive after performing the re-format?
Can I use the Carbon Copy Cloner software for this? I want to make sure that the resulting internal drive is bootable, etc.
I have been running Time Machine as well and have a disk full of backups from that app, but I have no idea how to use it to restore the drive to it's current state after re-partition and format.
Thanks in advance for any and all suggestions.
    John

So today I used the free "trial" version of SuperDuper to create a bootable clone of my primary internal drive.
It was about 100GB and took a long time to copy onto USB 2.0 external SATA drive, but it worked.
SuperDuper provided the option to make the copy the boot device as well. After reboot, I used OS X Disk Utility to erase primary drive.
I then performed the operation in reverse, copying the entire contents back to the original location.
After a reboot, I ran the Boot Camp Utility and received the same aggravating message which I received before.
How can I be sure that I am actually re-formatting the target drive in order to consolidate free space? Is this my issue? When I performed the erase operation, I skipped the "zero out free space" step. Am I using the correct utility to prepare the target drive?
Once again, any and all help is greatly appreciated.
    Regards,
    John

  • Sudden loss of hard drive free space

Within a day I suddenly lost about 18GB of free space on my hard drive.  About a week ago I noticed that I had only 5% free space on my 90+GB hard drive.  I deleted, moved programs and files and finally got it up to 22%.  Then a day or so later it was down to 3%, without my doing anything unusual. I then removed more files and got it up to 6%.  But something is wrong.  I've run the degragmenter, disk cleanup, removed temp files by running %temp% and deleting the files that came up.  I have searched for all files larger than 1GB, but found nothing.  My ZoneAlarm AV and spyware scans have turned up nothing.  I haven't searched system files as I don't know how to do that.  I ran RegCure--no new space from that operation.  I'm running out of things to do short of restoring back to an earlier time using a Ghost backup on an external drive--and that's not a guaranteed cure because I am not sure when this problem started.
I am running Windows XP Pro.  BTW, when I reboot, the free space remains about the same.

    Mainefrye, welcome to the forum,
this / similar has been experienced by several members, searching for "drive space" without the "" should bring results. Here's an example with a possible solution.

  • OS X operation and hard drive free space

I'm trying to track down a sudden spate of system and software lockup.  My current hypothesis is the issue is connected with the size of some new PDF files coupled with decreasing free space on the hard drive.
For Windows to operate correctly, MS clearly states a hard disk partition must have a minimum of 15% free space.  (I think XP and older only requires 10% free space, but I'm not positive about that.)
Is there a similar free space percentage for each partition in OS X?
If yes, is there a simple overview of how it works "out there" somewhere?
    Thanks.
