Newbie Question: Install/configure the SAP NetWeaver MDM PI Adapter

Hello gurus.
I'm new to PI and need to install/configure the SAP NetWeaver MDM PI Adapter.
Can someone guide me or link me up ?

Configure Sap NetWeaver MDM with Sap Netweaver XI

SAP NetWeaver MDM communicates with SAP NetWeaver XI by writing an XML file into a directory on a file server.
Can someone gives me an idea about the path of this file server? How can I configure it?

In addition to that Harrison told you,if you want automatic syndication of records ,then you must have to use syndication server.In case of syndication server the path of output file is always fixed and you cannot configure it.Path will be as follows:-

SAP MDM Root Directory\Server\Distributions\<server name> \ <Database instance name>\<Repository name>\Outbound\<client System code>\<Output Port Code> \Ready\
If u want scheduled syndication of records(i.e. in batch mode) ,then u can use syndicator batch.And for manual syndication ,use syndicator .Both of these components will syndicate file where ever u want/specify on the file system.

Problems when installing the SAP Netweaver 2004s Trial version on Fedora 9

Dear all,
I have been trying to install the SAP Netweaver 2004s Trial version on Fedora 9, 64 bit, x86_64, but have not been able to accomplish this correctly.
New to the Linux environment as well, and hence not completely sure about the issues here. According to the steps outlined for the installation, i downloaded and installed the IBM Java SDK and then executed the install.sh script file from the download.
The installation went well, but when i try to start the sap system using the command startsap, i get the error message command not found.
Could anyone please guide.

I can't install the SAP NetWeaver 7.0 ABAP Trial Version! HELP!

can anyone help me ,when i install the SAP NetWeaver 7.0 ABAP Trial Version,it always clue on "The installer had to update some MicroSoft runtime libraries. For correct operation, a system reboot is required. Do you want to reboot now?" I have reboot more and more ,but it just the same.

1. create an shortcut of the CD\image\setup.exe to your desktop
2. change the properties of the shurtcut - compatibility - run program in "windows server 2003 sp1" mode and select "run as administrator"
3. now you can doubleclick the shortcut and install the trial

Retieving list of application installed or running in the SAP Netweaver

I am a .Net Developer.I want to get the Url of the all the application installed or running in the SAP NetWeaver.
And whether it is possible to manage the SAP NetWeaver from the .Net Application.
I dont want to use SAP .Net Connector for that.

Hi Anil,
To check for the WAS-J2EE Stack installation - kindly use the following link to access your WAS j22 Start page "http://hostname:5XX00" where XX will be the System No. for SAP System.
Incase if you want to find out that you have a EP installed: goto:-
"http://hostname:5XX00/irj"
For XI , you can go to "http://hostname:5XX00/rep"
Incase the links work properly the software component is installed.
PREREQUISITE for the above CHECKS:
1) The system number should be correct.
2) The Fully qualified domain name should be used for the hostname.
3) The Software components and the J2EE Stack should be operational.
(ON the SAP SERVER)On OS level --> you can Go and have a look for the following directories existence --->
1) usr/sap/SID/DV*.../j2ee,
2) usr/sap/SID/DV*.../SDM
This means that you have atleast the Java Stack installed on your SAP Server.
Next in the task manager(WINDOWS) / process level(UNIX) you can check if you have process "jlaunch process under the sidadm owner".
If you want to manage .Net from NW you need XI

As rightly mentioned by Deepankar, in additon I would like to mention that MDM certification will be right boost for you to start your career in MDM.
MDM is a tool which involves a lot of integration. There have been many ABAPers shifting to this field as MDM is a hot cake right now. Myself being one of them.
You can always use ABAP Knowledge in MDM in the form of ABAP APi's.
XI skills is also an added advantage if you know it. However, you will genarally always have XI consultant supporting you in a project.

Integrating a Java web application into the SAP NetWeaver Portal

Hello experts,
We have a requirement to integrate a Java based web application into the SAP NetWeaver Portal using iView/iFrame technology. The Java based web application is completely independent from the SAP environment but should be displayed as part of the SAP Portal environment. The other requirement is the main navigation menu for the Java based web application should be configured and provided in the SAP Portal.
Any pointers on how exactly this can be done would be of great help.
Also how can the SSO (Single-Sign-On) to the Java application be implemented so that the user can logon to the java application through the portal without providing the user credentials again.

I think you can use URL iviews to integrate your java web application with EP. you have the option of doing SSO with the application as well.

SAP NetWeaver MDM - Project and Bachelor Thesis

Hello,
I am a German student of business information systems. I will write my project and bachelor thesis about u201Chow to synchronize and interchange the master data of an existing non-sap portal, with an existing sap erp systemu201D.
Therefore I would like to use the SAP NetWeaver Platform with SAP NetWeaver MDM. The thesis shall consist of two parts. First, the project thesis shall contain the requirements analysis and the specification. The bachelor thesis shall contain the implementation of these systems.
But there is one big problem. Is there any possibility to get SAP NetWeaver for educational propose, e.g. for free or for a free trial? At the download area of the sdn webpage, I found an SAP NetWeaver 7.0 u2013 Java Trial Version. Does this NetWeaver-Version include the Master Data Management Component? Does I need any other SAP-Systems to exchange the Master Data between these two Systems?

Hi Christian,
you can get a trial version of MDM as a SAP customer (in Germany via your SAP software distributor). If you have only access to a SAP university system I don't think you will get access to MDM and XI (at least they don't have it at my university). But of course you can ask your professor or SAP representative maybe they can help you. As far as I know all SAP university systems in Germany are hosted centrally in Munich and I don't think that they also provide such special solutions like MDM.
Doing a similar job in my thesis I can only recommend you to do this project only then if you have definitely access to all needed systems and having some people around with knowledge in additonal needed tools like XI or administration of SAP systems. Doing it all at your own without having SAP knowledge in the important points (system and database administration, software deployment, XI) is not realistic in a 5 month period when you have to build a SAP system landscape on your own in top of your project.

Usefulness of the SAP Netweaver Enterprise Search

I posted this question in the SAP Netweaver Enterprise Search forum and got no response, so I moved it to the ABAP General forum, where I got a little help, but not exactly what I'm looking for, so as a last attempt, I'm moving it here:
We are upgrading from 4.7 to ECC 6.0 and as part of the upgrade are considering implementing the Netweaver Search Engine. Most of the information I have found is from SAP and deals mainly with implementation. Im interested if you have implemented this and if so what benefits you have found and also any problems you have encountered.
There's a lot of tecnical information out there, but the question I need to answer is about how it helps (if at all) the business process.

I attended a session at TechEd about how Whirlpool implemented the Enterprise Search Appliance (I assume it is that you are talking about). From what I saw it looked quite good. They seemed to think that the biggest gain was the linking of things. E.g if you search for a customer and select it, you have links to see their sales record / credit checks etc.
But I'm afraid I haven't done any implementations myself.

I understand that SAP only allows its customers/partners etc. to use its software even for trial purposes. I have no such affiliation to SAP. So would I be able to use the software in that case? A Problem with the SAP NetWeaver Installation

Hello Everybody,
I'm installing the sap netweaver application but I Have a problem after the definition of the 4 passwords.
After that step I Have a step named :" DVD/CD Browser > Software Package Check" And the SapInst ask me to enter the location of the "Migration Export" Package, But I didn't find it and I cannot go to the next step and continue the installation.
