Newbie Question on Exported Photos

I moved from 20 years of Windows use to an iMAC a couple of weeks ago. Love it so far. However, I am stuck with an iPHOTO issue. It goes like this:
I download images from my camera to iPHOTO into an event, say Pets. I then edit a photo in Pets, say dog.jpg. I edit my photos in Fireworks by dragging dog.jpg to the Fireworks icon on the dock. After I edit dog.jpg I want to export it into my Pets event as say, dog-edited.jpg. That is when I am having problems. I export dog-edited.jpg from Fireworks to Pets. It exports but I never see it in the Pets event in IPHOTO. If I search for dog-edited.jpg in Spotlight, the file is found and it is in the Pets directory within iPHOTO. However, when I open iPHOTO it doesn't show appear.
How do I get my edited photos (those exported from Fireworks) to appear in iPHOTO?
Thanks for any help you can provide.

I'm not familiar with Fireworks but if you can set it to be your editor of choice in iPhoto's General preference pane via the "Edit photo:" menu you can use it from within iPhoto.
Then if you want to be able to use both iPhoto's and the 3rd party editing features from withing iPhoto the following will let you:
Using 2 Image Editors in iPhoto
If you want to use both iPhoto's editing mode and a 3rd party editor without having to go back and forth to the Preference pane, once you've selected the 3rd party editor as your editor of choice, reset the Preferences back to "Open in main window". Then when you Control-click on an image, you can select "Edit in external editor" in the Contextual menu to edit in your selected editor.
It all depends on Fireworks working like other 3rd party image editors.

  • Newb question for uploading photos to Ipod 5g

I have about 10 gb of photos that i have transferred to my ipod. I used iTunes to do this. The problem that I'm having is that whenever I want to add new photos, perhaps even just 5-10, it looks like it has to recopy all 10 gb to the iPod. Do I have to go through this process each and every time I want to add just couple of photos? Each sync takes about 20 minutes...there's gotta be an easier way.

In my experience, only newly added photos are copied to the iPod. There's an "iPod Photo Cache" folder stored in My Documents/Pictures (or similar on a Mac) that keeps a copy of photos on the iPod so that iTunes don't have to re-sample and re-copy pics each time you sync. If you delete that folder, then it'll re-sample and re-copy each pic again.

  • Newbie question - combining exports

Maybe I haven't been searching for the right terms, but I didn't find an answer in either the CR help or via Google...Is it possible to combine the output of multiple reports into a single export without using subreports?  For instance, I have a weekly sales report, a weekly cancellations report, and another weekly report which are all exported to PDF and emailed to management.  I'd like to combine them all into a single PDF/email, but because of the way they are structured I can't use subreports.  Is this possible?

    Hi,
You can't combine several reports without using the subreport functionailty. The best thing you can do is to create a script in SQL.First, you have to create a table for each type of data that you're going to populate. Create a table called tmp_Cancellation for Cancellation and another table tmp_Sales for Sales.
    Thanks,

  • I can not export photos onto DVD. After I click export, close iPhoto, click Finder, At this point I can't find the file to burn. (copy to be used on Windows) Sorry for the lame question....new to mac

I can not export photos onto DVD. After I click export, close iPhoto, click Finder, At this point I can't find the file to burn. (copy to be used on Windows) Sorry for the lame question....new to mac

So it sounds like you are trying to burn a DVD with photos on it so the photos can be either transferred to or displayed on a Windows PC, is that correct?
For the purposes of this I am going to assume you are using iPhoto '11.
Gather the photos you want to burn to DVD in one album in iPhoto. This is not absolutely necessary but it sure makes things easier for me.
Select that album, then go to the File menu and select Export...
In the dialog that shows up, select the File Export tab. Select the setting you want to use for export. Click the Export button.
Another dialog will show up. Set the location to Desktop and click the New Folder button. Name the folder something nice and descriptive and click the Create button.
Click the OK button. Quit iPhoto as the rest of this work will be done in the Finder.
You will now have a folder on your desktop with that nice descriptive name. Find it and select it. Go to the File menu and from it select Burn "Descriptive folder name" to Disc...
Insert a blank DVD when prompted.
Let the finder complete the work and eject the disc afterwards.
    That's it. Best of luck.

  • Exporting photo as "Original" question

I shoot RAW (Canon 7D) and import my RAW files in LR, make my edits, export as JPG and also, just incase I want to go back and tweak my edits I export the file as "orginal" which if I understand it correctly, LR makes a copy of my .cr2 file. I compared the original CR2 file to the copy LR makes and see a slight color difference but that's all.
Is it safe to delete the original CR2 files from my camer and keep the "original" copy the LR makes when I export?

    This is my original workflow:
Export CR2 files from Camera via memory card reader
Create folder structure with date and then subfolder named RAW that holds the CR2 files
Open Geosetter and keyword photos as well as geotag (I know LR4 does this, however, geosetter allows me to keyword much easier as well as geotag)
    Import CR2 files into LR
    Edit photos
    Export photos as JPG
Export photos as DNG (to keep edits)
Create a subfolder named DNG to keep as well as the original downloaded CR2 files from the camera
This process is fine with me and works, however, keeping the DNG and the CR2 files really takes up a lot of space; I don't keep my LR catalog for very long as I don't find it useful for viewing, sorting photos, I much prefer ZoomBrowser for that or Windows Photo Viewer
The workflow I originally inquired on in my first post:
Export CR2 files from Camera via memory card reader
Create folder structure with date and then subfolder named RAW that holds the CR2 files
Open Geosetter and keyword photos as well as geotag (I know LR4 does this, however, geosetter allows me to keyword much easier as well as geotag)
    Import CR2 files into LR
    Edit photos
    Export photos as JPG
Export photos as "original" (to keep edits) which creates a .cr2 file (I'm guessing a copy- hopefully a 1:1 copy) and a sidecar file that contains the edits
My question was regarding step 7 in this new workflow, my concern is that the LR copy of the .cr2 file is actually EXACTLY the same as the original .CR2 file from my camera.
This process may not work for some, but it does for me. I'm also considering, exporting the edits as "original", discarding the copied .cr2 files and keeping the sidecar files. I tried that and it seems to work well.

  • Two-fold question, can I export pictures from iphoto to an external drive? I have not been able to create volumes on My Passport for Mac when exporting photos, why is that?

I have a Mac Book Pro that I use iphoto 6 for my pictures. However, I noticed my hard drive was filling up too rapidly so I purchased a WD My Passport for Mac 500GB. I select photos(the number does not matter), click File>export, and select the location(and yes, I specify the size of picture's maximum, and the file extension, and I click Export and the export initializes and then stops. Telling me that it is unable to create the volumes ont the My Passport. There is plenty of space on the hard drive. I don't know what I am doing wrong. It seems like the process should be very simple to MOVE, COPY, EXPORT photos. Why is this so difficult? What am I doing wrong?

My photo library cumulative is maybe 1.3 GB tops, however I back it up to the external drive every upload. I don't think the issue is converting calculations because as I said in my previous post, sometimes when I stop transfer to the SD flash drive and restart the copying process it will complete the library of 60-80 photos in about 2 minutes like it should. The issue is that it will not proceed to copy most of the time, and the copying status bar says preparing for a long time

  • How to export photos from ipad to sd card

For some reason my ipad doesn't recongize readers attached.  Or maybe a better question is how do I know if ipad recognizes reader? How do I export photos from ipd to SD card?

You can only use the kit to copy photos from a card (or direct from a camera) to the iPad's Photos app, you can't use it to copy content off the iPad.
To copy photos to the iPad via the kit, then if you are copying the photos onto the card yourself from your computer then you will need to create a DCIM directory off the root of the card, with the photos underneath it, and the photo filenames need to be exactly 8 characters long (no spaces) plus the file extension i.e. in a similar format as if a camera had created/written them
To copy photos taken with the iPad, copied to via the kit or saved from emails/websites etc from the iPad to your computer : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4083

  • How do I export photos taken in an Iphone or Ipad Camera app and retain each of the photos location data?

I know this question must have been answered somewhere but I must not be searching for the right terms because I haven't been able to find clear instructions. I am using iPhones (4s) and iPadminis on IOS 8/8.1. I run ITunes on a Windows PC.
I want to be able to export photos which keep their metadata/exif data, including the location data that is acquired when the photo is taken. I have location services turned on for the Camera app. When I view the photos in the Photos app it appears to have kept some location services because it accurately identifies the place the photo was taken. How do I export these photos so they retain that location information?
I have previously exported the photos by using the iphone and ipad as an external hardrive and just copied the files off the devices. When I open these photos in windows explorer they do not appear to have maintained more than the time the photo was taken. They do not show any location information in third party software like Picasa or Geosetter (My previous experience has been exporting images from a non apple camera and then syncing it with a handheld gps to update the exif data). I don't find syncing photos through Itunes very intuitive.
What are my options? What are the solutions? If you have a solution can you please explain a little about what is happening to the files and the metadata/exif data at each stage of the process.
    Many thanks,
    Clare

    Export the project to iTunes
Copy the project file to your computer
    Rename <File>.IMovieMobile as <File>.zip
Extract the contents of the .zip file
Your photos and clips will be in the Assets folder

cant find photo in hard drive. where does iphoto store photo? i looked for the foler everwhere....

how to export photo to external hard drive?  (time capsule 3t)?
Simple - launch iPhoto, select the phtoos and export (file menu ==> export) to the destination of yoru choice - see the user tip onexporting for details on the export optiopns - https://discussions.apple.com/community/ilife/iphoto?view=documents
However is the Time Capsule being used for Time Machine backups? If it is do not use it as an external drive too - it needs to be dedicated to one use only
cant find photo in hard drive. where does iphoto store photo? i looked for the foler everwhere....
And this is a totally different question - by default in your iPhoto library - and to access then see the user tip on accessing yoru iPhoto files - https://discussions.apple.com/community/ilife/iphoto?view=documents
You never access them directly - always using the supported access methods

  • Newbie Question about FM 8 and Acrobat Pro 9

    Hello:
I have some dcouments that I've written in FM v8.0p277. I print them to PDF so that I can have a copy to include on a CD and I also print some hard copies.
My newbie question is whether there is a way to create a  PDF for hard copy where I mainitain the colors in photos and figures but that the text that is hyperlinked doesn't appear as blue. I want to keep the links live within the soft copy. Is there something I can change within Frame or with Acrobat?
    TIA,
    Kimberly

    Kimberly,
How comes the text is blue in the first place? I guess the cross-reference formats use some character format which makes them blue? There are many options:
Temporarily change the color definition for the color used in the cross-reference format to black.
Temporarily change the character format to not use that color.
Temporarily change the cross-reference definition to not used that character format.
Whichever method you choose, I would create a separate document with the changed format setting and import those format into your book, create the PDF and then import the same format from the official template.

  • I am trying to export photos and keep receiving an error message. I tried relocating my catalog to see if that would help since I am saving to an external drive, but now I can't find my catalog at all either.

I am trying to export photos and keep receiving an error message. I tried relocating my catalog to see if that would help since I am saving to an external drive, but now I can't find my catalog at all either. I am a newbie at this and don't know what I'm doing wrong or if I can even use an external drive for my photos and catalogs (I did enable smart previews so I do know how to do that part). Help!

You can use an external drive with LR but I recommend only using it for
image file storage while keeping your catalog on your internal HD for
performance. If you moved files outside of LR (Finder or Explorer) you will
have to clue LR in on where they are now. Use the left-hand folder panel in
Library mode to navigate to the location on your external drive and use the
find photo option get LR to reconnect them. If you moved the catalog and
now LR can't find it you should get a window allowing you to select a new
one where you can navigate to the new location and select it. You can also
just start LR by clicking on the Lightroom 5 catalog.lrcat file to open it
    and start LR.

  • Can't export photos from iPhoto 4.0.3

When I try to export photos from the 4.0.3. I get the not enough space message. This has only just started happening on my Power G4 OS 10.2.8. I need to get the photos into a folder for sharing to my recently purchased iBook where they can be burned. I am using a crossover cable for sharing. Is there another way to get the photos from the desktop to the iBook than using the folder? I have Tiger on the iBook and it doesn't accept the 4.0.3 Library, at least not the ways I've tried.

    Mary,
Sorry for the dumb line of questions regarding the connection between the two computers -- I just reread the thread from the beginning and noticed your opening mention that they were connected by e-net cable. Of course, that raises another question -- actually several.
If your intent is simply to use the iBook to burn CDs from photos stored on computer "A", then why are you using iPhoto 5 on the iBook as an intermediate step at all? From computer "A", mount the iBook's hard drive and create a target folder. Select your individual photos or albums and export them to that target folder on the iBook. When the target folder has 600 MB (or so) of files in it, go to the iBook, insert a blank CD, and drag the folder to the CD. Drag the CD to the trash, and you'll be prompted to burn the contents to the CD. Empty the target folder (rename it if appropriate) and repeat the process for another batch of photos.
Or is your intent to produce "iPhoto CDs" that will mount in (or automatically launch) iPhoto upon inserting the CD?

  • Exporting photos with editing changes

Hi, I am new to LightRoom. This question might be stupid, but I am having trouble exporting my photos and maintaining the editing changes that I have made. Here are the specifics: I made changes to many raw photos using LR on my desktop computer (Microsoft XP operating system). I then exported those photos, as raw photos and jpegs, to organize them within my hardrive and further edit at a later date. I recently purchased a MacBook Pro. I then copied those exported photos onto my external hard drive and copied them onto my MB. I then imported the file into LR and the original photos are there without any of the editing I did such as changing WB, sharpening, etc. I am wondering what I did wrong? Did I miss a step, fail to check or uncheck some box, or is this a issue with going between Mac and Windows? Any suggestions?
    Thank you,
    carrie

One follow-up question...again, probably a naive one. Would I be able to tell the editing changes by looking at either the metadata or the developing tools of the jpg files that I edited in raw? Changes such as wb, sharpening, color boosting, etc. I am browsing through my jpgs and they don't appear to contain those editing changes that I speak of. Otherwise, Lee's answer makes sense to me. However, I am not sure if what my eye is perceiving is due to monitor differences. That is why I would like to see exactly if those changes registered.
    Thanks,
    carrie

  • Exporting Photos in order

I have exported over 400 photos taken on two different cameras from a quick collection. They are sorted by capture time and I have changed the order of a few photos as well. When I export it seems that I get all the photos from one camera and then all the photos from the other camera rather than a mixture of the two sets of photos in a sequential order.
I assume that I have made some sort of basic error but cant work it out - any suggestions gratefully accepted!
    Andy

Hi Andy_j, what are you using to sort these two sets of photos. And I'm sorry if this is a dumb question, but were photos from the two cameras taken during the same time period?
