  • N95 8GB Newbie question re Text Messaging

    Hello Folks,
I live in the USA an have AT&T as a provider. I am just learning my around the N95 8GB. When I try to send a text message I get a screen with two window. One is label "Text message Center" and the other has "message center number" in it. Does anyone have any idea what to put in these windows? I tied calling the local AT&T store and they had no idea.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks.
    John

Thanks for your first reply Sage.
I tried the remove the battery and SIM card suggestion but to no avail.
As mentioned in my first message, the guy at my local AT&T store seemed to have no idea what I was asking for. He said that all text messaging was "mobile to mobile."
Perhaps I need another source at AT&T or perhaps I am going down the wrong track.
If anyone else has a suggestion, please let me know. I am sure I am not the only one in the USA with AT&T who has faced this questions.
    Thanks again folks.

  • Is there a way to add/delete words from the predictive text ?

Is there a way to add/delete words from the predictive text options that my iPhone is giving me? I'm using an iPhone 6 Plus with iOS 8.
There are specific words that are popping up in the area right above the keyboard where it displays 3 word suggestions to choose from. This area seems to suggest words that I have typed before, I'd like to remove these words. Default seems to select the word in the center and when I'm typing fast on occasion it will recommend and select words that I don't need to use.
    Any help would be appreciated.

I know in 10g delete is added but in 9i i can only work with UPSERT( update, insert)
is there a way to add delete into 9i MERGE? or somehow encapsulate it?
Thank youI would suggest upgrading to a supported version of the database. 9i has been unsupported for many many years now.
And to answer your question... to the best of my knowledge, there is no workaround. It works as it works.

  • Newbie Question about FM 8 and Acrobat Pro 9

    Hello:
I have some dcouments that I've written in FM v8.0p277. I print them to PDF so that I can have a copy to include on a CD and I also print some hard copies.
My newbie question is whether there is a way to create a  PDF for hard copy where I mainitain the colors in photos and figures but that the text that is hyperlinked doesn't appear as blue. I want to keep the links live within the soft copy. Is there something I can change within Frame or with Acrobat?
    TIA,
    Kimberly

    Kimberly,
How comes the text is blue in the first place? I guess the cross-reference formats use some character format which makes them blue? There are many options:
Temporarily change the color definition for the color used in the cross-reference format to black.
Temporarily change the character format to not use that color.
Temporarily change the cross-reference definition to not used that character format.
Whichever method you choose, I would create a separate document with the changed format setting and import those format into your book, create the PDF and then import the same format from the official template.

  • Very basic questions on text/email

So I'm now convinced - with the 3.0 OS and the 3GS handset, the iPhone finally does all I want it to do and I'll be buying my first one in a couple of weeks.
Before I do, though, I have a couple of very basic questions:
    1. Does predictive text only work in the SMS app, or does it work in the apps for email, writing notes, etc?
    2. Can you turn the predictive text off? (I find it wildly irritating, because I know far better what words I want to write than a pesky phone does!)
    3. Having email sent to a mobile is a whole new world for me! Do I need to subscribe to MobileMe at £££ per month, or is there another way of having email from my three accounts forwarded to my mobile?
    Hope someone can help!
    Cheers,

    1. Does predictive text only work in the SMS app, or does it work in the apps for email, writing notes, etc?
It works with Safari, the Mail client, the Notes app, and with the SMS app.
    2. Can you turn the predictive text off? (I find it wildly irritating, because I know far better what words I want to write than a pesky phone does!)
    Yes.
    3. Having email sent to a mobile is a whole new world for me! Do I need to subscribe to MobileMe at £££ per month, or is there another way of having email from my three accounts forwarded to my mobile?
You can access any IMAP or POP account with the iPhone's Mail client, and access multiple email accounts. I currently access to email accounts with the iPhone's mail client - my MobileMe account, and a business POP account. You can access all 3 of your email accounts with the iPhone's Mail client.

  • Proper predictive text ... Not this auto correct bull !!!

Is there ever going to be a proper version of predictive text for IOS? Android and RIM is MILES ahead with their predictive text technologies! There are some apps that can do some of it, but the intergration is POOR to say te least.
iPhone is supposed to be the best smart phone available, yet you fail MISERABLY at the most basic function of any smart phone .... To comunicate witth the device and other people
I am sure this question has been asked many times, but does anyone have any solid feedback with regards to this ?

This is a user to user forum tech help forum. It doesn't have anything to do whether Apple cares or not. We are users like you.
Post in the feedback area. I'm sure you are not the only one who has had the predictive text suggestion.

  • InDesign or Acrobat (newbie question)

    Hi,
I tried posting this in the LiveCycle Designer forum, but I think it's a bit too much of a newbie question:
Once in a blue moon when I'm at work, someone will ask me if I can add text fields to a PDF form so that they can easily type onto it and print it out. I've always done that directly in Acrobat (on the few occasions that it's been requested from me). But I was curious about Adobe LiveCycle since it came with CS3, so I played around with it a couple of days ago. I added the text fields in LiveCycle this time, and it seems to have worked fine. Which is the better program for this kind of task? I'm not 100% clear on the *main* purposes of either program or how they compare. If anyone wanted to give me a clue about it, I'd appreciate it!
    Thanks,
    Phyllis

    > I thought perhaps you could add that capability
You can (I said I was oversimplifying). However there are contractual
limits - to oversimplify (!) 500 users per form.
    >Which would be preferable -- receiving form data from LiveCycle or Acrobat?
It depends what you want to do.
    >
    >I wish I knew what the difference was between these two programs. Is it purely a matter of emphasis on one task or another?
They come to the same problem in different ways. For a simple task
they may seem pretty much the same. Some differences:
    * A form made in Acrobat is a PDF with form fields stuck on top; it
remains a normal PDF in every other way. Forms are almost always made
by preparing an existing PDF, then adding form fields.
    * A form made in Designer is barely a PDF. It's a wrapper round an XML
file. You can no longer edit it in Acrobat, ever, even for the most
simple things. PDF files are imported and converted (sometimes with
loss of quality or features), or forms are made from scratch.
    * Acrobat form fields are fixed size.
    * Designer form layout can be dynamic.

  • N96 predictive text and line 2 PROBLEMS

Just upgraded from N95 to N96 on Orange UK, I have always had Nokias and for years I have been holding down the # key to quickly change from Line 1 to Line 2 or visa versa, now it takes an age to go through the menus to change. Any one know where the shortcut is for Line 2 please, also I cannot find predictive text yet anyone know where that is please - or is this an unfinished phone where some of the important bits have been left off. Help Please.

@Barney: The (#)hash shortcut can only be activated thru the firmware of the phone. I have a N80 and just changed the firmware. In my old FW the (#) shortcut changed to and from silent mode; In the new FW the shortcut changes the line.
In order to change your firmware to on that has ALS (the feature you want) you may have to do a little research and find the correct FW and possibly change your product code. The former is supported by Nokia and the latter voids your warranty.
Feel free to ask any questions as I have a few for you. I live in the US, and our service providers do not support two lines. For the past 10 years I have carried two phones and always wondered about 'Line 2'. I am in the process of doing some research on the subject and am curious about how it works on the your side of the pond. Just for starters here are some questions:
Can your phone receive calls on both lines simultaneously?
Does changing your line only change the outgoing number?
Is the feature solely based on the SIM card or must it be network supported?
Do you have a special SIM card for this feature? (dual IMSI)
    Thanks

  • Newbie-Click for Text

Rookie question. I want learners to be able to click various areas on a screen and get a text box with more detail. Have set up click spots with the text box as a Success Caption and set Timing to Rest of Slide (there is no Rest of Project option). But once the user clicks the spot and gotten the text box once, the text box won't appear when they click a second time, though the cursor still turns to a hand when it enters that area on the screen. It's like they were successful, so it's done!? There's GOTTA be a way to do this simple task. What am I missing?

Thanks, Rick. I'll give it a try. I think this is a little amusing. There are so many what seem to be more complex things available so simply in Captivate and this that seems so simple isn't!?!?  Other than this, I am very impressed with Captivate. Being an original Authorware user, I'm finding Captivate is very cool!!

    Hi again
Okay, Click and Show can be accomplished using Advanced Actions. Basically you insert the objects you wish to show, name them appropriately and turn off their visibility. Then you create Advanced Actions to show them.
I offer an eBook that covers Advanced Actions in some pretty deep detail. Or if you want, you can just keep going back and forth in the forums asking questions where you find you are blocked. Your call.
    Cheers... Rick

  • MEGA-Newbie Question

This has to be the most newbie of all newbie questions. Interestingly enough, it is the one that is most rarely answered in a non-technical way that the novice can understand.
What exactly do I need Motion for? What, in common-sense, regular-language terms, does it do?
My manuals tell me how to do all the things it does. But they assume I am an experienced editor (I'm an experienced filmmaker, but only just started working in editing) who already knows all the things that CAN be done and only wants to know HOW to do them in Motion. This is not me.
So, say I am making a 90-minute HDV feature music doc. I have footage, I have stills. I will need captions, titles and text on screen. I will need an end credit roll. What is it I will probably want Motion to do for me that FCP can't do on its own?
I'd appreciate an answer in somewhat non-technical language that addresses the practical use -- from a filmmaker's point of view -- of this no doubt amazing program.
    Thank you.

    hi Paul,
You are right you can do much of the things Motion does in FCP, but Motion takes them further and often makes them easier to do.
Briefly whereas FCP is generally for editing moving pictures from rushes to a coherent whole, Motion is used to composite or layers of moving pictures to make a new coherent whole picture.
So i plain words, you can meld different sources of video, stills text and other sources together to make a new end peice. You can animate text, warp pictures, create fires, smoke, hide bits ( masking), animate graphical elements. In short whenever you need to layer up multiple sources of imagery Motion is your man. Sure FCP can handle a lot of this, but Motion is designed specifically and only to do this, and does it very well. ( You would not want to edit in Motion!)
In your 90 minute example you could do it all in FCP and make it look very nice. But you might need to go the extra mile with the title sequence, perhaps the captions will have some kind of generic strap line ( lower third) under All these things could be done easier and better in motion. However you would not want to import the whole 90 minute programme into Motion and start throwing captions on it. Rather you would want to build each element ( strap line, animating titles, opening sequence etc) in Motion and then import them into FCP for the final mastering. Motion is for short sequences, and FCP is used to collect them all into one programme.
I make music commercials for a living, do all the cutting on FCP and build all the graphic elements in Motion, take a look at my site for some examples if you'd like,

    Hope this helps you

  • RV042G Newbie Questions

I have the new Cisco RV042G router, and I have just a few "newbie questions" about it as I get started using it:
The firmware on board is v4.2.1.02. Since this is a brand new router, is that the latest firmware?
Under Time>DST Dates, what do I need to configure in there? I'm in the US, Central Time.
I want to use Back to My Mac from iCloud (formerly MobileMe). Under the iCloud preferances pane on my Mac, it's saying: "Back to My Mac may be slow because NAT Port Mapping (NAT-PMP) or Universal Plug and Play (UPnP) is turned off on your router. Turn on NAT-PMP or UPnP." What should I enable on my router in order for Back to My Mac to better function?
I'm using a VOIP phone on the network (only 1 device with a couple phones). Are there any QoS settings I should tweak for better performance of my VOIP phone? I did change the port the VOIP phone is connected to to High (instead of Normal) under Port Settings. Will this help boost performance?
I also want to setup a VLAN on a port for guests to access the Internet, but not have any access to my personal network. Here's the steps I've done so far. Is this sufficient or is there anything else I need to do?
I went to Setup>Network, enabled Multiple Subnets.
    I added 192.168.254.1/255.255.255.0 as a subnet.
I went to Port Management>Port Setup, set the port I wanted to use (Port 4) to VLAN2.
I went to Firewall>Access Rules, added two rules:
Deny All Traffic from 192.168.254.0 to 192.168.1.0.
Deny All Traffic from 192.168.1.0 to 192.168.1.0.
    Thanks everyone for your help!

Easy.  just goto the DHCP field and fill in the Static DHCP fields.
Assigning static IP addresses by adding devices from a list
Click Show unknown MAC addresses. The IP & MAC binding list appears. If the web browser displays a message about the pop-up window, allow the blocked content.
The devices are listed by the IP address and the MAC address. (Typically the MAC address appears on a label on the bottom panel or back panel of a device.) If needed, you can clickRefresh to update the data.To select a device, first enter a descriptive Name. Then check the Enable box. Alternatively, select all devices in the list by clicking the check box at the top of the Enable column.
Click OK to add the devices to the Static IP list, or click Close to close the pop-up window without adding the selected devices. After you click OK, a message appears. The message includes important information. Read it before clicking OK. Keep the browser open and wait until the selected MAC addresses appear in the Static IP list.
Modify or remove list entries, as needed:
To modify the settings: Click a device in the list. The information appears in the text fields. Make the changes, and then click Update. If you do not need to make changes, you can click Add New to de-select the entry and clear the text fields.
To delete an entry from the list: Click the entry that you want to delete, and then clickDelete. To select a block of entries, click the first entry, hold down the Shift key, and then click the final entry in the block. To select individual entries, press the Ctrl key while clicking each entry. To de-select an entry, press the Ctrl key while clicking the entry.
Assigning static IP addresses by entering devices manuallyIn the Static IP Address section, add or edit entries as needed. Remember that the settings are not saved until you click the Save button.
To add a new device to the list: Enter the following information, and then click Add to list.
Static IP Address: Enter the static IP address. You can enter 0.0.0.0 if you want the router to assign a static IP address to the device.
MAC Address: Enter the MAC address of the device. (Typically the MAC address appears on a label on the bottom panel or the back panel of a device.) Enter the address without punctuation.
Name: Enter a descriptive name for the device.
Enable: Check this box to assign the static IP address to this device.
To add another new entry: Enter the information, and then click Add to list.
To modify the settings: Click a device in the list. The information appears in the text fields. Make the changes, and then click Update. If you do not need to make changes, you can clickAdd New to de-select the entry and clear the text fields.
To delete an entry from the list: Click the entry that you want to delete, and then click Delete. To select a block of entries, click the first entry, hold down the Shift key, and then click the final entry in the block. To select individual entries, press the Ctrl key while clicking each entry. To de-select an entry, press the Ctrl key while clicking the entry.
Using the Static IP List to Block Devices
You can use the Static IP list to control access to your network. You can block access by devices that are not on the list or do not have the correct IP address.
Add devices to the Static IP list as described in Static IP Addresses.
Enable or disable the following features:
Block MAC address on the list with wrong IP address: Check this box to prevent a computer from accessing your network if its IP address has been changed. For example, if you previously assigned a static IP address of 192.168.1.100 and someone configures the device to use 192.168.149, the device will not be allowed to connect to your network. This feature discourages users from changing their device IP addresses without your permission. Uncheck the box to allow access regardless of the current IP address assignment.
Block MAC address not on the list: Check this box to block access from devices that are not included in the Static IP list. This feature prevents unknown devices from accessing your network. Uncheck the box to allow access by any connected device that is configured with an IP address in the correct range.
    Hope that helps.

  • Dumb newbie question -- shell vrs linux console

This is probably a dumb newbie question, but what is the difference between the shell screen and the linux console screen? I used another system before Arch and I believe there was only the shell screen! Does it matter which one is used?  Thanks -- Larry

The console is the 2D text rendering thing. The shell is Bash, just a program that handles your input and has the console as output.
If on the other hand you mean the console at startup, and you call that the console while you call xterm, etc. shells then the answer is different. It's just a matter of configuration if you automatically start X or not. A lot people use gdm or kdm to get a graphical login screen after bootup, others just type "startx" in the console when they want to start X.
You can switch to the console with Ctrl+Alt+Fn where n is a number between 1 and 6. You can switch between consoles with Alt+Fn, X is on the last console, so to go back to X do Alt+F7.

  • No predictive texting and more !?

I was surprised to talk to Palm to confirm that my palm pre plus has no predictive text.
I'm quite shocked that any old flip phone has predictive texting on sms, email and web browsing but the Pre doesn't. Am I missing something?
    Also:
No camera zoom ( my 10 year old motorola flip has it )
    No flash support on websites.
I really want to give Palm support to keep em in their market share but....

No webOS devices have a card slot (yet).  Just plug in the phone to your computer, and you have the USB Mode option.  Easy to drag and drop supported media to your phone!

  • 6280 - Cant turn Predictive Text on

I can't work out how to turn on Predictive Text. Elsewhere on this forum people have written about selecting "options" when writing a text message but there are no options for Predictive text that I can see.

Any Ideas? Is there a hidden function somewhere? Like pressing and holding the left function key during text input turns the t9 dictionary on/off

i live in holland, and i got my 6280 from a store that specialises in their own deals with subscriptions with network providers. i don't know if such stores exist in the UK, but there are many here in holland. their offers are often much better than any of the network providers (e.g. vodafone, t-mobile,e tc.).
thanks for the suggestion. i'll get in touch with them and post my findings here. just too busy lately.
