Newbie question related to structured document saving to XML

I am Framemaker newbie working on existing Help File documents. I figured out how to updated different modules and steps but having problems adding new module headings as when it is saved to XML the anchoring, not sure if that is the correct term, is off by one. And I can no find where or how to update the anchors. I am using 7.0 with XP Pro. Thanks

Russ - thanks for the reply and apologize for not providing more details. I have a Help File document written in Framemaker. I have had no training on Framemaker but given the task of updating the file. The Help File contains numerous Module Headings that have anchors. When the Help File is used witihin our application - if a user clicks help, it automatically opens to that section of the help file that the user is currently in. I need to add a new module heading, so I tired copying and pasting an existing part of the document and modified but that somehow thru off the anchors when if exports to xml. I hope this make sense as I am just learning the tool myself. Thanks

  • HD video newbie question related to camera shooting mode

    Hi everyone
I apologize in advance as this has been covered (sort of) but I cannot definitively answer my question reading other posts so perhaps your answers will clarify this for myself and future interested parties.
I am ready to purchase a Canon HF S100 VIXIA camcorder after looking at a lot of reviews.
I have iMovie9 and will be using this exclusively (I hope?)
I am aware that if I edit anything or add transitions or image stabilization the video will be downgraded to SD, this is not related to my topic.
    Questions follow
The camera supports 24p Cinema mode and 30p mode. Both of these shoot at 24 or 30 frames per second in HD using 60i which I presume means that each progressive frame is encoded in two sequential interlaced frames which must be combined (or something like that). I would like to use this mode as it has much better low light performance and I have a lot of indoor use, BUT---
Will iMovie9 support this and display the video as a HD progressive scan frame or will it discard this information and keep it as 60i or fail or something else?
    Thanks for your help.

afaik, most (all?) consumer camcorders, claiming '24p' (or Cinema or...), scale on export (or record) to 60i ..
for me, this '24p' is mostly marketing... 24fps is a historic 'standard' for film/celluloid. in times, when displays claim 200fps, .. why 24? why not simple 29.97/30p (or here: 25)...?

  • (newbie) Question about replacing .class files and web.xml file

I'm new to servlets and I have two quick questions...
Do I absolutely need a web.xml file to define all my servlets, or can I simply place .class files into the WEB-INF directory and expect them to run?
If my application server (for example Tomcat) is running and I replace a servlet .class file, do I need to restart the server for the new .class file to take effect?
...or are both of these questions specific to the application server I'm using?

    Hi,
    From an article I read:
With Tomcat 3.x, by default servlet container was set up to allow invoking a servet through a common mapping under the /servlet/ directory.
A servlet could be accessed by simply using an url like this one:
    http://[domain]:[port]/[context]/servlet/[servlet full qualified name].
The mapping was set inside the web application descriptor (web.xml), located under $TOMCAT_HOME/conf.
With Tomcat 4.x the Jakarta developers have decided to stop allowing this by default. The <servlet-mapping> tag that sets this mapping up, has been commented inside the default web application descriptor (web.xml), located under $CATALINA_HOME/conf:
<!-- The mapping for the invoker servlet -->
    <!--
    <servlet-mapping>
    <servlet-name>invoker</servlet-name>
    <url-pattern>/servlet/*</url-pattern>
    </servlet-mapping>
    -->
A developer can simply map all the servlet inside the web application descriptor of its own web application (that is highly suggested), or simply uncomment that mapping (that is highly discouraged).
It is important to notice that the /servlet/ isn't part of Servlet 2.3 specifications so there are no guarantee that the container will support that. So, if the developer decides to uncomment that mapping, the application will loose portabiliy.
And declangallagher, I will use caution in future :-)

  • Newbie question about saving files

    Hi all,
A newbie question here, and maybe it is a dumb question, but I can't get my head around this and sofar found no answer in the forums here.
When I save a file on my macbook, I can only save it to "top" folders.
What I mean is I try to save a file for instance to documents/worddocs/lyrics just to say something, then I have to save the file first to documents, and the move it to the lyrics folder via finder or move it to :worddocs folder and then move it again to the lyrics folder. Hope you still get my drift here
Is there a way to just save it to the subfolders without going through all this moving around?
Thanks in advance for any advice
    Peter

When you click File>Save As, you will see the Save As window pop up. At the top, you will see a box entitled Save As, which has a space for your to enter the file name. To the right of this box is an arrow pointing down. Click it. The full file hierarchy will be seen. Then you can save directly to the file you want.
    Hope this helps.

If both files are held locally on the computer it looks like there is no problem however if you try and do it though icloud (ie your docs are saved on icloud) you dont get the "source" oprion besides the graph etc. Is this a but or a broken function due to the new implementation of icloud.

    Hi there,
We are in the middle of designing the structure of a new system.
I have read/heard that it is best to break down the plans into the
    following categories:
    Business Classes
    Managers/Services
    Clients
I have a few questions about this structure:
Should related business classes be grouped together in Plans? E.g. if
you have an Employee class with related EmployeeSubordinate and

Why should the Managers be separated from their business classes?
E.g. if there is an EmployeeMgr service which deals with anything to do
with the Employee business class, why separate them in different
plans? If you need the manager to access the class, you will always
    need both.
Some of the Forte documentation talks about "Policy" managers and
"Database" managers. How do the functions of these managers differ
for a simple CRUD (Create Read Update Delete) class?
If you have the Database managers separate, what scope does each
DB manager cover? I.e. do you have one for the entire database (over

Thanks in advance for any answers.

  • Cross references in structured documents

    Hi there,
Perhaps someone of you has a tip for me regarding cross references in structured FrameMaker.
The problem we have at the moment:
We were working with FM8 structured. But - as we worked with FM documents most of the times - very often the xml files are not on the latest version.
When we now want to update these documents with FM9 and save them as xml documents, there are lot's of errors that the attribute type is not defined for the element fm-xref.
Perhaps some of you know this error message.
At the moment we do exchange all those cross reference for new ones.
Of course, when we have a xml document which contains the latest status, this is not a problem.
You just open the xml file and save it as FM9 document. No problem with any cross reference...
But what can I do with those FM8 documents?
Would it help to use some application just for fixong the cross references in those (if possible)?
This definitly seems to be an error in FM itself.
Is there perhaps some fix for FM9 I don't know about?
And how about FM10: Will I have the same problems, if we switch to that version?
    Regards,
    Anna

    Hi Van,
I fear, I expressed myself not very clear. I try again.
We have DITA structured documents. However, lastest status often was saved in the FM document. The xml documents often are not representing the final status.
When I open the FM8 document in FM9 everything looks pretty good.
But: When I want to save the document as xml with FM9, I'm getting errors regarding the cross references.
The cross references which were created in FM8 - doesn't matter, if a valid xml document or a FM document - always look the same.
(BTW: I don't think that in structured documents cross references always refer to elemts with a unique ID.)
example from xml which was created with FM8:
    <xref href = "#id08B4A0R30E9" type = "fm:Chapter">"..."</xref>
the only difference in the FM document is that the element is called fm-xref there, as it's not an external url.
in FM9 those cross references are totally different.
example from xml which was created in FM9:
    <xref href = "#id08B4A0R30E9" class = "- topic/xref">"..."</xref>
When saving the FM documents with the cross references from the first example as xml in FM9 (we don't have FM8 anymore), I get an error that the attribute type is not defined.
When having a xml document that was last changed with FM8 and opening/ saving this with FM9, there is no error.
At the moment I do not know how to solve this issue.
And also I'm not sure weather the same problem might accour again with change from FM9 to FM10 or else.
It is a great effort to make new cross references just because we upgraded from FM8 to FM9. (And of course always at most inconvienent time.)
As we are thinking of upgrading to FM10, it would be good to know before, if there are any similar issues to expect.
Or if there is an fix for FM9 or FM10 to avoid this at all.
    Regards,
    Anna

  • Newbie Question about FM 8 and Acrobat Pro 9

    Hello:
I have some dcouments that I've written in FM v8.0p277. I print them to PDF so that I can have a copy to include on a CD and I also print some hard copies.
My newbie question is whether there is a way to create a  PDF for hard copy where I mainitain the colors in photos and figures but that the text that is hyperlinked doesn't appear as blue. I want to keep the links live within the soft copy. Is there something I can change within Frame or with Acrobat?
    TIA,
    Kimberly

    Kimberly,
How comes the text is blue in the first place? I guess the cross-reference formats use some character format which makes them blue? There are many options:
Temporarily change the color definition for the color used in the cross-reference format to black.
Temporarily change the character format to not use that color.
Temporarily change the cross-reference definition to not used that character format.
Whichever method you choose, I would create a separate document with the changed format setting and import those format into your book, create the PDF and then import the same format from the official template.

  • Question related to concept of PCK

    Hi All.
I am quite a newbie to XI and am only learning it thru online help. I have one conceptual question related to PCK.
My understanding is that PCK is needed by a small business company to communicate to its larger partner which already has XI running. Correct me if I am wrong here itself.
Now if the larger business partner already has XI, why does the smaller one need a PCK at all? The XI instance on the larger partner will have all the necessary adapters to understand any format send by the partner. So even if the partner(smaller) sends any format- be it IDOC/HTTP/FTP, the XI instance on larger partner will have its adapters ready to perform the conversion.
Then why is this PCK needed at all?
Thanks in advance. Hope my query is clear
    Regards.
    Samant

    Hi Samant,
Your question is a very good one, Though I have not worked on PCK, I can share my ideas based on some brain storming session I had with our collegues & business partners.
While executing projects, there are technical & operational issues. For example, when you access any HR related data of a UK based organisation then all those who work on that project have to undertake data security pledge. Like wise there are many constraints on data & system accesses, which vary across organisations.
When you use PCK*, irrespective of different systems what the small vendors have, you communicate with your Big company's XI system only on the XI's msging protocol http(s)/SOAP. This allows a fair amount of ownership of data/access related issues to the small partners.
-> you go for PCK, when there is no need for small vendors to go for XI.
Hope this is of some help. As Michal said there might be much more (or even better) reasons.
Michal, when you say "all of the mappings and transformations have to be on the small company side", what exactly you mean by this. can you please eloborate.
    Thanks & Regards
    Vishnu

  • XML newbie question

    Hi,
Firstly, I am sorry to post native-XML question here..
I am using XML in my Java application and came across XML Schema.
As far as I know XML Schema does similar job(validating xml doc) with DTD with more functions.
Is that all XML Schema can do, validating related XML doc?
My application needs to build different types of XML docs with existing XML Schemas.
    This is silly question but...
Is there any way to embed XML Schema into XML builder/parser so that it can be used to generate XML doc ?
In other words, when building XML doc, is it possible to guilde the building process with XML Schema...
If not, then building different XML docs with different XML Schemas in my application would be very tedious...
    Thanks in advance.

To generate an XML document from an XML schema, generate java classes from the Schema with JAXB.
Construct an XML document from the java classes by marshalling a java object.

1a: Disk space in use/Free: there are some default reports on your ConfigMgr 2012 site in the folder "Hardware - Disk"; those may be what you want.
1b: number of files/documents saved: by default out of the box (unless you've changed it), "file inventory", also known as software inventory, is not enabled. This is for various technical and practical reasons.  However, if for your specific
company you are required to scan for *.doc, *.xls, *.docx, *.xlsx, *.pdf, etc--you can certainly enable that feature.  Once enabled, you will be able to create custom reports to "count" the number of files on each computer.
2: similar to 1b above, you could enable scanning for files which happen to be named *.pst.  This link is more advanced; but it's a more granular way of detecting who is using pst files, and where they are--whether or not they are local-->
    http://www.mnscug.org/blogs/sherry-kissinger/249-pstfinder
3: "last login details who and when"--that is "sort of" recorded and available.  But I want to be cautious about telling you that it's available--because really it's your Active Directory domain controllers that *really* know when
a username last logged in.  Remember, ConfigMgr is NOT meant to be an up-to-the-second reporting mechanism.  The reason last login details are recorded from a configMgr point of view is simply to assist in determining who the primary user of a machine
is.  It's not, and is never meant to be, to help you see the exact time Bob logged into ComputerX.  It's more so that over weeks, the ConfigMgr Client can determine "hey, Bob is the one with the most console minutes on ComputerX, he's probably
    the primary user of ComputerX".
    Standardize. Simplify. Automate.

  • Newbie question - cloning to a new server

    Hi all,
I am very new to the EBS world, so please forgive the "newbie" question. We are running 12.0.4, and we have approximately 12 different environments. We probably do 3 to 4 clones a week, generally from production to one of the existing environments.
However, we now have a couple brand new Linux servers, and we want to set them up as a new environment to clone to (one will be apps server, one will be DB server). I am looking at some of the Metalink documents on how to do this. But my basic question is this - do I first have to do a basic EBS installation onto these servers, before I will be able to clone an environment over to them?
    Thanks!!

You can create a chart from "all the data in a table or only data in selected cells of one or more tables," according to the Numbers '09 Users Guide. Rather than reinvent the wheel, I'll refer you to Chapter 7 of that document, and specifically to Page 132.
If I recall correctly, there is a copy of the Users Guide on the IWork installation disk. If not, the Guide is available for download in the Help menu in Numbers.
