Newbie to Apple

Apologies from the start. I'm a complete novice when it comes to Apple products. I've just bought an ipad 3. I have registered with itunes. In itunes I want to transfer a bunch of PDF's to my ipad. I have clicked on my device, then apps, then scroll down to the bottom to File sharing. I clicked on the Adobe App and clicked on add and selected all the pdf files i wanted to add, then clicked on sync. When I then open the Adobe App on my ipad there are no files present. When I log back on to itunes and scroll down I'm instructed to click on the Adobe App to view the documents on your ipad. The list of pdf files appears but they are not on the ipad when i click on the App on the ipad. HELP. At the very least how can i delete the pdf list in the box on itunes. Thanks in advance. Did you try clicking the 'Documents' row in Adobe Reader's file view? What do you see when you do that?

The iphone is a "plug and play" device. It is safe to unplug it without "ejecting it". If you want to be sure it is safe open itunes and under devices next to your iphone you should see the eject symbol like a line with an up arrow above it, click that. Once you no longer see the iphone listed under devices it'll be safe to remove.

Newbie to apple. just got a macbook pro...10 questions

hi.
i recently just switched/purchased a new 15 inch Macbook Pro yesterday. i have been playing with it last night and this morning and i have a few questions...
1. what do i do with all those discs?
-do i have to install MAC OS X, itunes, and apple care? im sorry i just don't get it. is there more stuff on the MAC OS X discs(1 and 2) that i have to install?
2. transferring music/files/pics/etc. from pc to macbook pro?
-how is this done? Ive read where you can just connect an Ethernet cable to each computer...i tried falling directions but no success. then i tired to drag my music from my ipod into my library in my macbook but it did not do anything?..how can i transfer my music/files to my new macbook pro?
3. right click?
-is there a way to right click?
4. wireless Internet?
-i did not want to buy an apple port or whatever its called. im planing on just getting a linksys...is there a specific one i should buy?
5. noise?
- ive been reading in other posts how people have solved or not solved the "whining" noise... is there a final solution? if so what?
6. print screen?
- is there a print screen option on macs? like on pc's where you press the print screen button and it copies whats currently shown. an apple person from the store showed me it can be done but i forgot what he did. all i remember is that he dragged the cursor and was able to copy the screen.
7. multiple screens?
-i remember this apple person showed me that you can have like 4 screens at the same time minimized in each corner but only one would work but you could still see the others...how can i do this?
8. best way to turn it off?
-i usually just put my PC on standby when i was done with it. what is the best option when im done using my macbook? should i just put it to sleep? and also when im sleeping should i turn it off completely or just put it to sleep?
9. icons wont move on desktop?
- i just downloaded firefox and when it was done it left an icon on my desktop. i tried dragging it to my applications but it just made a copy. how do i get rid of it or move it?
10. AIM?
-why does aim always sign off by itself? whenever i log on about 30 seconds later it logs off...can this be fixed? i dont really like using ichat. i dont like how to buddy list is setup unlike aim.

I will give this my best shot. I too am a recent convert.
1. File them away in a safe place for future use if necessary. If you need to boot or reinstall anything later.
2. Export all of your music to an external HD from your PC and then just import them on your MBP. Go to the File menu in iTunes for this. I think I just copied my My Music file from my Win PC to a external HD and then imported them on the MBP.
3. Hold control and click at the same time. You can buy a mouse and that will help also. I bought a wireless mouse that comes with a USB key. You just plug in key and mouse works great.
4. You can use any wireless router. I have a Linksys (cant remember the model but I think its WRTGRX2).
5. Dont have problem or just dont notice it.

I asked the Genius at my local Apple store this question and he said to just close the screen to put it to sleep if Im going to be using it again the same day and only shut down when I wont be using it for a couple of days. In standby or sleep mode it does use up some battery power. I usually turn it off each nite but during the day put it to sleep in between uses.
9. Once you drag the icon to the application folder you basically did a copy and paste of the application so you can drag the desktop icon to the trash can and get rid of it. You will still have the copy of it in the application folder and that can be used to access program. you could also drag from the application folder the icon into the bottom shortcut list of applications (i cant remember at this moment what this is called) but if you drag it in from the left side you will be placing a shortcut of the application for quick access.

Convert & Newbie to Apple and Garageband

Hi, friend has emailed me an acc file of their work for me to work on...I open the email...see the attachment, tap it and it plays...but not save it anywhere or given any option either...so consequently I've nothing to import into garageband, even though GB says I can import all manner of difference files into garageband....Am I being really stupid and missing something fundamental here? Many thanks for any assistance or abuse for such a lame post. Rog

Import an audio file
You can import an audio file from your computer into Tracks view. GarageBand for iOS supports uncompressed audio files with a 44.1 kHz sample rate and 16-bit depth (the standard for audio CDs). You can also import Apple Loops. If the audio file is an unsupported sample rate or bit depth it will be unavailable in the import window.
To import an audio file:
On your computer, add the audio files you want to import to the GarageBand File Sharing area in iTunes.
In GarageBand for iOS, tap the View button to open Tracks view.
Move the playhead to the point where you want to add the audio file.
Do one of the following:
To add the audio file to a blue Audio Recorder or Guitar Amp track, tap the track.
To add the audio file to a new empty track, tap the empty Tracks view area.
Tap Import and select the audio file you want to import from the list.

Newbie on Apple TV asks

Hiya! Planning on getting an Apple TV. But as there are many choice out there i want to ask:
1. Does the Apple TV have a Safari browser?
2. Can one install normal App Store apps on the Apple TV? How would one know of any added streaming service on the device? And how often does streaming sites gets added?
3. Is there a Youtube app? is it possible to connect my Android phone to the AppleTV to stream my Youtube playlist?

Newbie to apple forum - panic today,

my iMac has SBBOD and black screen apart from when screensaver kicks in. Do I need to panic?

You could try an SMC reset and PRAM reset:
SMC Reset
Shut down the computer.
Unplug the computer’s power cord and disconnect peripherals.
Press and hold the power button for 5 seconds.
Release the power button.
Attach the computers power cable.
Press the power button to turn on the computer.
Reset PRAM
Shut down the computer.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P and R.
You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
Release the keys.
Don't panic - yet.

Bought and installed ringtone from itunes on my iphone 6. Cannot find it on my pc (win7) under itunes, although it does appear in purchase industry under my account. I am a newbie to Apple and iphones who would appreciate any help.

This Newbie Has Questions

Hi there. I am a newbie to Apple. I purchased the iBook last month and of course, when the MacBook (which had the features I wanted) came out, I rushed out and got one and I'm very pleased with my purchase - but I have a few "newbie" questions:
1) Printing on a PC based Linksys seems to be a nightmare. I can't get anything printed on the shared HP 2600N and HP1012 printers. I literally have to disconnect them from the PC and plug the USB directly to my MacBook to print. It seems like there should be a better, easier and MacFriendly way of doing this - anyone have an easy solution?
2) I'm going to purchase Windows XP so I can run my windows programs on this computer. Does anyone have any pre-installation advice?
3) I have a blackberry device that worked fine with my iBook, but does not work with my MacBook - any suggestions or is there a software compatibility patch?
4) I transferred everything from my old Mac to my new Mac with no problem. How can I migrate my contacts from Entourage to the Address Book?
5) I notice that sometimes the MacBook "stalls" or doesn't work fast in some functions...is it just me - I expect the machine to jump quickly...but sometimes I get that annoying pinwheel when opening programs.

The problem is probably a driver issue.

You may need to use a third-party driver such as the HPIJS drivers or the Gimp-Print drivers, but this is not the case with all printers.

Ensure you get a full version (not an upgrade version) and it comes with XP SP2 already.
Do not install Boot Camp on a critical machine and make regular backups of your data, this is beta software and there are bugs and issues.

Apple support Thailand Trip - help please

Kind of lost.
Iphone 5S of a friend got broke. He got it from his family before the trip. Newbe to apple, did have an apple id.just started using it. Mostly pictures, web on wifi, etc. Therefore i am asking for him.
Had battery issues, now not starting, charging, anything.
Problem, right now we are on an island in Thailand, next stop bangkok. No retail store there, only official resellers. After short stop we are off to india. Guess less stores around there. Enfield roadtrip...
Now the problem, where can he get replacement, repair.. Anyone any ideas. Can reach support chat. Only online with this iphone device...

I get it.. And i am not complaining about different warrenty models all over the world...
I can see a lot of reasons, why wartenty is not international. Specially because there are different laws around the world.
But having bought the newest model which is not a year old, i dont get why they dont offer service around the world for models under a year old.
Apple presents itself a a new, fresh, hipster kind if company.. On nearly every commercial they tell u how nice it is to take the iPhone anywhere u want, share vids and pics with all your friends from anywhere.. Now u realize that its more likely only in one country.. At least service related. For backpackers traveling around the world, iPhone therefor is properbly a bad choise!

Newb questions re WIkis

As the title indicates, I'm a newb to Apple server stuff. I don't even have a server running. I have SLS evaluation on the way, but I have a ton of "can it..." questions, but I won't dump them all here.
Regarding wikis. Would it be possible to have a public website that is run by the Wiki server with blogs and all? If I were to host multiple virtual domains, could wiki server run them as well?
On a larger scale, would it be possible to use SLS to run a public site for a community like a church or other volunteer run organization? Wiki, blog, file sharing, calendar, ABS, Podcast producer, the whole deal? Or is it all really designed to be an internal system only?

Audio problems frustrating newbie!

As a newbie to Apple products I find myself frustrated with audio problems on my new iMac. In the project browser the video is fine, audio in sync, no video hesitation, but when I view the finished product in full screen mode I get audio out of sync, periods of no audio at all and freezing frames. I burned the project onto a dvd and again, although the project is perfect the dvd download is the same as the full screen preview, scenes freeze,and hesitates and there are lengthy periods of no sound. I've rechecked all aspects of voice overs, music etc, nothing seems out of whack and the movie runs perfectly in project mode. Any ideas? I've read on other forums that this is a problem with imovie11. This is not a happy introduction to Apple!

All I can say is this is by no means a bug free product. But the price is right. I've used imovie for a couple of years. When stuff happens, you can definitely post on this site because the help is very good. But at the end of the day, you have to burn cycles, step back and really analyze what the heck happened and could have cause this issue.
Video can be ******* complicated. The more complicated it gets, the more you should bite the bullet and hit the learning curve and get yourself a copy of final cut. It's a steep learning curve, but it's a serious app. I have no idea what's going on with your problem. Hope you solved it..?

BTW, Mac's are not perfect, but light years more enjoyable the Winblows and bloated operating systems of that variant. Don't throw it out the window yet.

What is the best photo editing software for newbies

Would you recommend Photoshop elements for a newbie to Apple platform.
Have editing background but not very proficient in Photoshop.

iPhoto, which actually comes free with your Mac, does some basic, yet powerful things in photo editing.
I recommend Aperture because it does two things very well. First, it's like iPhoto in that it organizes photos, which is a separate App when you enter the Adobe ecosystem.
The second thing is that Aperture is extremely powerful in editing photos. But more than that you can purchase even more powerful plug-ins that have Photoshop counterparts. In other words, you can grow with Aperture from powerful photo editing/organizing tool. And as you need to get into other things like HDR editing, you can buy plug ins from photo software developers like Nik Software.
I'm a huge fan of Aperture, and I've done some cool things with it. There are huge philosophical debates between how Aperture deals with editing imaging and how the Photoshop world does, but you're a "newbie", so Aperture may be your best start in life. It's very Mac-centric. Apple supports it. And frankly, the support community here is probably one of the most vibrant on all of Apple (other than the film editing ones).

I need an Apple 'wall adapter'

I bought a pocket-sized portable recharger for my iPhone and iPad 2. This little gizmo connects to the 30-pin connector. It also needs to be recharged, and here is my problem. My cords are all innies. That is, they fit into the connector to charge. For my gizmo, I need an outie. I'm told this is an Apple wall adapter.
I've searched online and can't find it under that name. So .. what else is it called?

Innie means it fits INto the device. OUTtie means it goes over the connector pins

I am constantly being asked for my apple ID when attempting to download an app. I have entered it 10 times correctly so what's up? I have an iPhone 4S also so not a newbie to apple this is driving me nuts.

You're welcome. I don't know why this issue has arisen in the last couple of days, but others have reported the very same thing and I found this fix here in the forum.
