Newbie to Hibernate

Hello,
I am starting to use Hibernate and am working on some examples in order to see it working. I am now working on this one-to-many example that is raising exceptions that I am not beeing able to get rid of nor have I found anything clear enough, for me, regarding these exceptions online. Here are both classes I am trying to associate via Hibernate and the mapping xml file to your reference. If you can point anything out, except for bad practices, that are leading to the here mentioned exceptions I'd appreciate it.
package poo.examples; public class Enderecos { private Integer codigoendereco; private String rua; private String bairro; private String cidade; private String uf; private Pessoa[] pessoa=null; public Integer getCodigoendereco() { return codigoendereco; } public String getRua() { return rua; } public String getBairro() { return bairro; } public String getCidade() { return cidade; } public String getUf() { return uf; } public void setCodigoendereco(Integer codigoendereco) { this.codigoendereco = codigoendereco; } public void setRua(String rua) { this.rua = rua; } public void setBairro(String bairro) { this.bairro = bairro; } public void setCidade(String cidade) { this.cidade = cidade; } public void setUf(String uf) { this.uf = uf; } public Pessoa[] getPessoa() { return pessoa; } public void setPessoa(Pessoa[] pessoa) { this.pessoa = pessoa; } } package poo.examples; public class Pessoa { private Integer codigo; private String nome; private Integer idade; private Enderecos enderecos=null; private Integer codigoendereco; public Integer getCodigoendereco() { return codigoendereco; } public void setCodigoendereco(Integer codigoendereco) { this.codigoendereco = codigoendereco; } public Enderecos getEnderecos() { return enderecos; } public void setEnderecos(Enderecos enderecos) { this.enderecos = enderecos; } public Pessoa(){ } public Integer getCodigo() { return codigo; } public String getNome() { return nome; } public Integer getIdade() { return idade; } public void setCodigo(Integer codigo) { this.codigo = codigo; } public void setNome(String nome) { this.nome = nome; } public void setIdade(Integer idade) { this.idade = idade; } public String toString(){ return "Pessoa " + getCodigo() + " Nome: " + getNome() + ", Idade: " + getIdade() + " Endereco : " + getEnderecos().getRua() + ", " + getEnderecos().getBairro() + ", " + getEnderecos().getCidade() + ", " + getEnderecos().getUf(); } }
The mapping XML file:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> <!DOCTYPE hibernate-mapping PUBLIC "-//Hibernate/Hibernate Mapping DTD 3.0//EN" "http://hibernate.sourceforge.net/hibernate-mapping-3.0.dtd" > <hibernate-mapping> <class name="poo.examples.Pessoa" table="Pessoa"> <id name="codigo" column="codigo" > <generator class="sequence"> <param name="sequence">pessoa_codigo_sequence</param> </generator> </id> <property name="nome" column="nome" /> <property name="idade" column="idade" /> <property name="codigoendereco" column="codigoendereco"/> <bag name="enderecos" inverse="true" cascade="all,delete-orphan">         <key column="codigoendereco"/>         <one-to-many class="poo.examples.Enderecos"/>       </bag> </class> <class name="poo.examples.Enderecos" table="Enderecos"> <id name="codigoendereco" column="codigoendereco"> <generator class="increment"/> </id> <property name="rua" column="rua" /> <property name="bairro" column="bairro" /> <property name="cidade" column="cidade" /> <property name="uf" column="uf" /> <many-to-one name="pessoa" class="poo.examples.Pessoa" column="codigoendereco" insert="false" update="false"/> </class> </hibernate-mapping>

Here is the sample used to insert, delete, update and select the data:

  • How to use db2 function in the HQL

    hello
    i am newbie to hibernate, now i am choosing a solution for my project, in this project, it use db2 function in the sql clause as follow:
    insert into idstool.access(userid,node,password) values('userid','nodename',encrypt('password','nodename'));
    i wonder if i can implement such function by using hibernate, that is if hibrenate can use the db2 function, or user-defined sql functions? if yes, how?
    thanks for any helps

    I think you'll find that you can do this through HQL. You also have the option of invoking a stored procedure or invoking native SQL in tandem with the normal Hibernate options.

    Hi,
    Try following the JPA tutorials for WebLogic, JPA using EclipseLink or Hibernate will be the same if you stick to the specification. WebLogic 10.3.4.0 ships with a Java EE 6 compliant JPA 2.0 implementation in EclipseLink - you may want to give that a try.
    http://wiki.eclipse.org/EclipseLink/Examples/JPA/WebLogic_Web_Tutorial
    http://wiki.eclipse.org/EclipseLink/Examples/Distributed
    I also have a JBoss 6 tutorial for getting JPA working as well.
    BTW, your persistence unit is currently application managed - try switching to container managed - then most of your jar dependencies will go away as everything is already setup for you to do dependency injection via the container.

    thank you

    Can javafx intregrate with hibernate in netbeans? (6.8)
    I try to add Hibernate configuration wizard and Hibernate mapping wizard
    by right click at the project > new > other > hibernate
    but it does't support.
    it shows "Unsupported Project Type"
    How to solve this?
    thank you so much

    thank alexfromsarkoland.
    I try by right click at the project > new > XML document
    and write mapping and configuration file, It's work !
    but if netbeans wizard support on javafx it will be easier.

  • Question on Persistence (Entity Beans, Hibernate, JDBC)

    Hi everybody!
    Until now, I have read a lot about persistence in the J2EE-sector, but I am still confused about which technology to used in my case.
    I hope, that maybe you can give me some hints, by telling me which technology is good or bad regarding my requirements:
    I want to build a customer- and order-management system fullfilling the following requirements:
    1. The client is a Java application, the server is a JBOSS 4.0.1
    2. The databasa scheme exists already and I'm not allowed to change it.
    Some data, that logically belongs together and which shall be presented together to the client is distributed over 2 database tables.
    3. The user cannot just create new and view data, but will also edit existing data quite often.
    4. The user can assign products to an order. Often, there will be more than 1000 products assigned to an order, which will be presented to the user as a table (e.g. JTable). The user can then edit each cell of that 1000-row table, which of course will lead to an update in the db.
    5. The user can also assign customers to a specific role in an order-process. On the other hand, each customer can make many orders.
    So, we have a n:m relation here with the db-tables Customer, Order, OrderCustomer.
    6. A complex search functionality has to be implemented, where the db-query is created dynamically at runtime.
    7. The application is a multi-user application (about 10 users). It will be very rare, that users will work on the same data at the same time, but it might happen.
    8. The database type (SAP DB) will not be changed in the near future.
    With these 8 requirements in mind, I dealed a lot with EntityBeans, Hibernate and JDBC with SesseionBeans during the last 2 weeks.
    Until now, I came to the following conclusions.
    Hibernate is too slow. That'S bad, for data is edited very often and sometimes I want to edit just a single cell in 1000-row table.
    Hibernate's biggest advantage - that it makes your application independent of the database type - is not even required (see point 8).
    JDBC with SessioBeans: Very fast (I tried a simple query and it was about 10 times faster than Hibernate).
    The disadvantage is, that I have to take care about all the transaction, concurrency control etc. things.
    If I use JDBC, I want to do it that way: A SessionFacade accesses a DAO-object which executes the DB-query and returns the result to the SessionFacade which in the last step will pass the result to the client.
    Entity Beans: I am completely confused with Entity Beans.
    I read a lot about the CompositeEntity-Pattern for BMP. But on sun's J2EE Pattern page (http://java.sun.com/blueprints/corej2eepatterns/Patterns/CompositeEntity.html)
    they said, that it's just useful when using the EJB 1.1 specification, because from EJB 2.0. the container or whatever will take care about lazy loading and store optimization.
    So, from EJB 2.0. you should prefer using CMP-Beans with Container Managed Relationships (CMR), but as I heard, the dependent objects cannot be accessed and changed by the client when using CMPBeans with CMR.
    However, a simple DB/Entity-mapping will not work in my case, because as mentioned above, there are thousands of products from the db to be managed at the same time. So here, I thought, the Composite pattern with its lazy loading strategy would be useful.
    Furthermore, I have an n:m relationship in my database scheme, which is not trivial to map to entity beans. And don't forget that some related data is spread over 2 databse tables.
    To sum it up, it would be very nice if some of you could clarify this perisistence nightmare, especially some clarification about if and how to use EntityBeans when having n:m relationships, editing data a lot, managing lots of table rows at once and having related data distributed over 2 database tables.
    So, which technology would you prefer with the 8 requirements in mind? Hibernate, Entity Beans or JDBC with SessionBeans? Or would you prefer a mixed solution?
    Thanx for every hint.
    Regards,
    egon

    Here the requested information about the test:
    Goal:
    Find all customers, who's branches have the String "Branch" in their name.
    Both times, a simple client accesses the same SessionBean in a JBOSS-Container.
    This Bean has 2 methods. One accesses the DB via Hibernate (executeCriteria), the other one via JDBC (executeCriteriaJDBC).
    The code to count the seconds of computation is as follows:
    long startTime = System.currentTimeMillis();
    List customerList = bean.executeCriteria(dc);
    System.out.println("Hibernate: "+((System.currentTimeMillis()-startTime)/1000.0f)+" sek");
    startTime = System.currentTimeMillis();
    List customerListJDBC = bean.executeCriteriaJDBC(query);
    System.out.println("JDBC: "+((System.currentTimeMillis()-startTime)/1000.0f)+" sek");
    HIBERNATE:
    CODE:
    Branch Branch = new Branch();
    Branch.setName("%Branch%");
    Example example = Example.create(Branch);

    But as you can see in the mapping-File of the customer, I wanted Branches to be lazy loaded.
    Do you have any ideas, why Hibernate is so much slower? Any hints for optimizing that code?
    Do you have any further tricks to optimize Hibernate? Unfortunately I am not allowed to make changes at the database, so I cannot e.g. set indices for optimization.
    However, Im a Hibernate-Newbie. In fact, I just made this test and was very disappointed about its result, so I didnt keep on working with Hibernate.
    But maybe you can proof me, that Hibernate is a good choice. If so, do you have any good resources (links, books) that help working with Hibernate in connection with JBOSS, describe how to map n:m relationships, show how to work with large results and so forth?
    Thanx for help,

  • How to catch SQLException  in the hibernate ?

    Hi ~ , I am a newbie to java , recently I do a project that need to use hibernate to do insert data into database(db2) , but my program always encounter a DB deadlock problem , which throw an exception indicated that
    "{code}DB2 SQL error: SQLCODE: -911, SQLSTATE: 40001, SQLERRMC: 2{code}"
    so, in this case , i want to try catch block handle this exception , and the code is as follows:
    public static void main(String[] args){
    try {
    Configuration cfg =
    new Configuration().configure();
    SessionFactory sf = cfg.buildSessionFactory();
    Session session = sf.openSession();
    Transaction tx = session.beginTransaction();
    try {
    session.save(obj1);
    session.save(obj2);
    tx.commit();
    session.close();
    }catch (SQLException se) {
    // ***** here it indicate an error that "This exception is never thrown from the try statement body" *****
    }catch (HibernateException e) {
    e.printStackTrace();
    }but in fact , while running the programe , it does throw a SQLException that abend the program , how would I not be able to catch it ? , here I provide the error info :
    Hibernate: insert into TBCUSRPQ (CUST_NAME, CUST_SALUT, LAST_UPDT_BY, LANG, VER, FNL_RSK_LVL_CDE, SYS_RSK_LVL_CDE, CUS_RSK_LVL_CDE, NO_OF_ANS, ANS_REF_ID, DTL_INFO, BANK_NO, CTRY_CDE, RPQ_GP, CUST_ID_TYPE, CUST_ID_NO, LAST_UPDT_DT, LAST_UPDT_TM) values (?, ?, ?, ?, ?, ?, ?, ?, ?, ?, ?, ?, ?, ?, ?, ?, ?, ?)

    Hi,
    as corlettk said, you may only catch exceptions that are thrown at you directly (at least for checked exceptions...). If you really want to handle this specific error situation in any reasonable way, there is the possibility to catch what is thrown at you and inspect the cause of the exception provided.
    try {
        // some hibernate calls
    } catch (GenericJdbcException ge) {
        if(ge.getCause() != null && ge.getCause() instanceof SQLException) {
            SQLException se = (SQLException)ge.getCause();
            if(se.getErrorCode() == -911) {
                // your error handling for this case
            }else{
                throw ge; // do not swallow unhandled exceptions
        }else{
            throw ge // do not swallow unhandled exceptions
    }But such things quickly get quite ugly, e.g. if the SQLException is not the direct cause of the GenericJdbcException...so you should be aware what you are doing.
    Bye.

  • JSF, Springs and Hibernate

    How about learning Java first?
    At least for JSPs, there are free online tutorials from Sun. There are likely to be similar resources for Spring and Hibernate.I Know Java. I am a Sun Certified Java Programmer. I also know know J2EE. I am trying to learn the new technologies. Therefore i mentioned that i am a newbie, it was pertianing to JSF, Springs and Hibernate. Not to Java.In that case:
    Core Java Server Faces (2nd edition)
    Java Persistence with Hibernate
    Pro Spring 2.5
    Expert Spring MVC and Web Flow
    Together with the product documentation those should make a decent bit of reading.

  • FinalizedClientSession on running newbie tutorial

    Hi,
    I'm examining Toplink for persistancy layer. I started doing the standalone newbie-tutorial on http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/ias/toplink/doc/10131/main/_tutorial/intro/standalone/intro_tutorial.htm.
    Having some experience with Hibernate, I'm really impressed by the ease of use of the TopLink workbench.
    Everything goes according to plan until testing the application. Every time database access is required I get a "An Error Occurred"-page with
    a oracle.toplink.internal.sessions.FinalizedClientSession.
    In my first attempt I tried to run it on MySQL5.0, but even after downloading and using Oracle XE it still occurs.
    My config:
    Windows XP (SP2)
    Oracle XE 10.2.0.1.0
    TopLink (10.1.3.1.0)
    OC4J standalone (10.1.3.2.0)
    Java 1.5.0_06-b05
    I tried to setup my session using a J2EE Datasource as well as JDBC (oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver). Nothing works. Don't think it's a driver/database problem. Since a Google search on FinalizedClientSession returns 0 hits I expect this happens somewhere in the deep dark secret dungeons of Toplink.
    Any ideas?
    Grtz,
    Roel

    Doug,
    That's part of the problem: there is no stack trace. On the client nor on the OC4J-console. The oracle.toplink.internal.sessions.FinalizedClientSession is all I get.
    I found out I get another error (Error Code: 17002) when I forgot to startup my DB, so a missing database connection seems not the cause of my problem.
    Does a session have some kind of timeout, after which it gets "finalized"?

  • Mid-2013 Macbook Air drains battery at hibernate

    I recently got a new Macbook Air:
    MBA 13-inch, Mid 2013
    Processor  1.7 GHz Intel Core i7
    Memory  8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
    Graphics  Intel HD Graphics 5000 1024 MB
    Software  OS X 10.8.4 (12E3067)
    The issue I'm running into is essentially that I close the lid (unplugged from power and anything else) and overnight the entire battery drains.  When looking into the system log, I noticed that the sleep seems to run OK but it's when it tries to hibernate that the issue comes up.  It looks to me like it tries to hibernate and runs into an error, tries again, run into an erro, tries again, etc.

    This all seems to loop until the battery drains completely.  Any Thoughts?

    I have the exact same problem. I just installed Mavericks three days ago and I'm having battery drain when the lid is closed.
    Does anybody have a solution for this problem ?

  • Laptop screen does not turn on after resume from suspend/hibernate

    I use systemctl suspend/hibernate to resume,  but the screen does not turn on from resume. everything else still functions just fine, meaning i can type in reboot and reboot, but a "turned off" black screen.

    Suspend has always been problematic under Linux. It seems to be hit or miss for the most part, but here are some things you can try:
    Use an LTS kernel, tuxonice, pm-utils, etc. See Suspend and Hibernate
    Try a different graphics driver
    Tweak the driver module parameters or build your own driver.
    Unfortunately I don't have experience with the radeon driver, so I can only give you ideas.

  • Error While using date fields in HIbernate Criteraia

    I am trying a sample applciation using Hibernate with JPA. I am using annotations to map database table with Java class.I am using org.hibernate.Criteria to form where clause. My code looks as follows:
    EntityManagerFactory emf = Persistence.createEntityManagerFactory("PERSISTANCE_UNIT");
    EntityManger em = emf.createEntityManager();
    Session session = em.getDelegate();
    Criteria criteria = session.createCriteria(MyDO.class)
    criteria.add(Restrictions.eq("myDO.date",myDO.getDate()));
    List list = criteria.list();
    I am searching the data base based on the date field (myDO is an instance of MyDO.class which contains the mapping to the data base table). While running the application first time after publishing to server, I am getting the following error. For subsequent running of the application I am not getting any error and the appliaction was running with actual results.

    Can anybody help in fixing the problem.
    Thanks in advance.

    Resolved the issue by setting System date where expected
