Newbie to Mac - Quick Time 7.5.5 download issue - be gentle

I have just got an iMac and was looking to Quick Time - I was directed to download the software which i have now done 3 times. I have looked in here at hundreds of posts but cannot see the same thing.
It appears to have installed ok (I think) but when I go to open it ...after the first page I get an message which says 'switching' and it goes to an Apple Quick Time page with itunes, top picks, movies on it, which in turn then takes me to the Apple store -this is not what i was expecting and I cannot get the player to open as it used to on my laptop using Xp...
It will be something dumb I realize but what??
Thanks

I said I was being dumb - now I get it...it does open but I have tried this url which I am assured works but I get a message noting url is not valid - does the open url box always come up with movie url as this is for a radio station? Or am I being dumb again???

  • Turning a quick time file into a downloadable fild

I recently created an audio book as an mp3 file using iTunes and audiobook builder. Love the final result but the large size of 63 MB makes it not practical to post (takes a ton of time) and then to have users download.
iWeb returned a suggestion of exporting the file in quick time which I did. I now have two files: one for dial up connection (8.5 MB) and low broadband (20 MB)
The problem is that when I go to the web pages where these files live, I am given the choice of playing them in real time as opposed to downloading the files.
Any suggestions on how I can post as downloadable files in mp3 format?

You have probably not optimized your .mp3 file and an export to other formats could drastically reduce the file size.
Remove "stereo" from your file and you cut the file size in half.
Reduce the bit rate from 128 (standard) to 64 and you cut the files size again by 50%.
Use the AAC audio codec (.m4a) instead of the ancient .mp3 file format.
You can use iTunes / Advanced menu to reduce the file size and a text based link to its URL which your visitors can then right click to download.

  • The only Quick time that I could download on my iPad is 7.6 ? There is none for free?

I'am unable to find ( as on PC) a quick time to download for free. It's mandatory to buy the Quick time 7.6 at 30€?

The video must be in the proper format in order to be viewed on the iPad. If it was converted/created in one of these formats it should work on your iPad.
Video formats supported: H.264 video up to 1080p, 30 frames per second, High Profile level 4.1 with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats; MPEG‑4 video up to 2.5 Mbps, 640 by 480 pixels, 30 frames per second, Simple Profile with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps per channel, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats; Motion JPEG (M-JPEG) up to 35 Mbps, 1280 by 720 pixels, 30 frames per second, audio in ulaw, PCM stereo audio in .avi file format.

  • Quick Time Version 7.1.3 issues

When I try to open iTunes on my computer, a window pops up with the message "Quick Time version 7.0d0 is installed, iTunes requires Quick Time version 7.1.3 or later. Please re-install iTunes"
I went on the Quick Time portion of the Apple web page and tried downloading version 7.1.3, and at the very end it said something to the effect that I already had an updated version of Quick time on my computer.
Is this not the problem then? Do I just need to delete the whole iTunes program off my computer and re-install it from scratch? If I do that, all of my songs will be gone, right? I still have all of my songs on my iPod, so if I re-install the iTunes program, then re-connect my iPod to my computer after I do that, then will it transfer all of the songs back onto my computer?

Uninstalling iTunes does not remove the music from your computer.
Try going through the steps in this article...

Specifically, follow the steps for removing the Quicktime files from the System32 folder in Windows, and also check the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility for Quicktime stuff.

  • Quick Time Take Over and MP3 Issues

I recently downloaded Quick Time Pro for the purpose of watching online movies. I am no longer able to transfer or play mp3 podcasts except on Quick Time. I can no longer transfer them to my iRiver H300 either. Please let me know how I can tone down this programs aggressive nature?
    Thank you,

Open QT Preferences and go to the Browser Plug-in
window. Click on MIME Settings and you should be
able to change the application that is called up to
play the various multimedia files you encounter.
Make sure that the only file type checked for QT to
    open is .mov files.
Thanks for your assistance but I'm still not able to download the MP3 files and have them saved to desktop. Any other thoughts would be appreciated. Note, I have removed the checked or green blocks and all boxes except the Quick Movie boxes which can't be unchecked.
As soon as I click on the MP3 file it begins to play on Quick time.

  • Mac OS 10.6.4 Update/Download Issue

I just got a new Macbook and of course the software update had a lot of updates it that needed to run. Including Mac OS 10.6.4 and Safari 5.0.1. I tried downloading them and my connection got lost in the middle of the download. I tried the download again and everything jamed up. So I went to the library and cleared out the update file and everything else was cleared and didn't say partial downloads on the Update Software screen. All of those I got downloaded and updated just fine. The only ones I can't get to work are Mac OX 10.6.4 and Safari 5.0.1 They are still saying they are partially downloaded and when I try to re download they just jam up. Can someone tell me where these updates are being downloaded to so I can go in and clear them out and start the download fresh? Thanks

Download and install the combo update from here:
    _http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1048_
Of course when I suggest that, I assume you have some sort of high speed internet available to you?

  • I need quick time 7.5.5 for itunes. How to repair problem of installation?

I have mac leopard 10.5.5 powerpc and I have itunes 10.6.3.
Itunes need Quick Time 7.5.5 or more.
I tried to install quick time but there is a problem of instalation.
How to repair problem of installation of Quick Time?

    Some specific downloads of QuickTime:
    7.5.5 for Tiger
    7.6 for Tiger
    7.6.4 for Leopard
    7.7 for Leopard
Since you have Mac OS X 10.5, Leopard, it would probably be better to use one of those Leopard-specific downloads.

  • Quick time advice needed

first of all where can i get quick time 7 for mac every time i go on the apple website it keeps giving me the windows installer where the **** is the mac quick time installer.
i am currently using os x 10.4.9 on a d,a with upgraded processors duel 1 ghz. but my quick time progrgram keeps crashing every time i try to watch an oldish quicktime file i have i keep getting error messages from a fire wire external hard drive

"i get lots of errors going off some times it works other times it shows no sound or bleeping noises or error messages im wondering if the hard drive as a problem with it"
Are you talking about your Software Update control panel? If so, then you need to cross-post in the Forums of whichever model Mac you have & the Mac OS X v10.4 Tiger Forums
You will also need to advise exactly what those errors stated so that the knowledgeable users in the above forums can properly advise you on troubleshooting solutions.
In the mean time the following Knowledge Base Article may be of some use:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106695 Troubleshooting Automatic Software Update in Mac OS X
Your system info confirms you are only using OS 10.4 which is currently outdated & not compatible w/the currentl version of QuickTime.
You need to update your OS & possibly other things for your model Mac.

  • Quick Time Player 10 vs 7

I can play an MPEG movie on the Tiger iMac, Quick Time Player 7.6.4, but cannot play this on Snow Leopard, Quick Time 10.0.
The message says I need to download a different format, but does not say what. In reading about Quick Time, there is a download for Quick Time 7.
Is this the problem, or something else? Is it possible to have Quick Time 7 and 10 installed at the same time, or does one remove the other at installation?

If it's an MPEG-2, you need to install Apple's MPEG-2 playback component. Otherwise, click here for the software.

  • Getting an error message with Quick Time

I'm trying to open a file (video) and I get an error message, 2048. It's saying it's not a file that Quick Time understands. I downloaded the MPEG 2 playback component thinking that would fix the problem but nope. I'd appreciate any help here. Thank you.

Did you figure out what you did? I have the same problem.

  • Help to install iTunes and Quick Time please!

I really hope you can help me. I have been working my way through this forum for around 5 hours today. I have tried a number of your suggestions and have made some progress.
    - My iTunes hasn't been working for some time. I tried to uninstall it and reinstall a fresh version but it wouldn't uninstall.
    - So following forum advice, I downloaded and ran Windows Install Clean Up and also did a manual deletion exercise. This left a few odd files that wouldn't delete.
    - I have downloaded iTunes 8.2 but it won't install. I get an error message: "error writing to file: c:\programfiles\commonfiles\apple\mobile device support\syncservices\schemas\calendars.syncschema\contents\windows\calendars.ex e Verify that you have access to that directory" and eventually I get a message telling me that iTunes needs Quick Time.
    - I also downloaded the stand alone version of Quick Time. When trying to install it I get the error message "error writing to file:c:\programfiles\quicktime\pictureviewer.resources\ko.1proj\pictureviewerlo calized.dll Verify that you have access to that directory"
    - I can confirm that I am the only user of this computer and I have administrator rights.
    - I have installed the latest Microsoft updates.
    - I have restarted my computer about 3 times, after each major thing I've tried.
    Totally Stuck Now!
I did read a suggestion about using a Microsoft fix but it involves going into the registry and I don't have the confidence to do that, I don't really know what I'm doing at all, I'm just following my nose!
When my computer starts up CheckDisk says "correcting error in index $0 16208" and after correcting and sorting it says "an unspecified error occurred".
    Please help!!

It sounds as though the file referred to in the error message is corrupt and Windows cannot read it.
Try running a disk check. If it finds and fixes errors, try reininstalling. If not it it doesn't work, go on to the next step.
    Try renaming c:\programfiles\commonfiles\apple\mobile device support\syncservices\schemas\calendars.syncschema\contents\windows\calendars.ex e as ...calendars.old.
If Windows will not allow that, then rename the containing folder.
This should allow the install to proceed as it will not see the corrupt file.
