Newbie trying to configure mail sevice on osx server 10.3.9

Hello,
I have read all posts which appear to deal with the issues I'm having and have tried several of the suggestions, but I am still unable to receive mail on my Mac OSX 10.3.9 server. Here is my postconf -n:

I am also unable to send mail. Here is my telnet reply per one of the posts I read:

I need help with this because I'm afraid that mail bouncing back is causing major problems for me with clients and vendors. Thank you for any assistance...

  • Trying to limit a user on OSX Server to one directory for FTP

    Hey there everybody,
I'm trying to set up a client FTP for a new mac mini running OSX Server (Mavericks). FTP is enabled and I am able to get and put files but, the server is going to be used for a client services company and we will need to use it to transfer files back and forth without allowing access to the whole machine. The core issue is when I FTP in as a user I can still move around and see folders and files. I would like to create a user that can only see one folder or directory and only get / put files to that one place. Can't seem to find any similar posts, though I would assume this is fairly common.
    Huge thanks in advance!

  • Configuring Mail on iPad, "POP server is not responding"

Just bought my ipad last week and ive been trying to configure my email account (Live), but it just doesn't seem to work.
I select 'other' and follow the steps, but then a pop up appears saying "Cannot Connect Using SSL" --> Do you want to setup without SSL, yes/no? Selecting no, cancels the setup and selecting yes brings up another pop up, "POP server 'pop3.live.com' is not responding. Check your network connection and that your entered information is correct in the ;Incoming Mail Server; field.
If i click ok after that 2nd popup, i can save my settings but the password is blank and when i re-enter the password the same pop up appears.
Thank you for help in advance.

It works fine and then after the final step i click save... then it brings me to mail and it says Password Incorrect, Enter the password for the exchange account 'Live".. but i'm positive ive entered the password right, ive entered it so many times.
not sure if this is relevant, but it works perfectly on my iphone?

  • Mail Setup at OSX Server issues

I have several devices (iPad, iPhone, Desktop and Laptop) that access my email accounts (Personal-POP and Business-IMAP accounts) without any issues.
I'd like to use my Mac Mini OSX Server as a main client to all these emails account and collect emails and distribute it at my local network.
Is it possible? I'd like to use all resources from my ISP that can handle with virus, security ... but at the same time I'd like to keep local at this OSX Server all messages that we usually send and receive when we are using local network at office. I read manual several times but is not clear for me if this feature is available.
    All suggestions will be welcome.
    Edison

OS X Server and most mail servers do not include the ability to collect mail from remote servers, though it is possible to build a somewhat precarious scheme  based on forwarding messages from the remote servers involved. Google's mail service and its gmail client do have the ability to retrieve mail from other remote mail servers without resorting to forwarding mail around, but you'd need to integrate something like imapsync or fetchmail to perform this on OS X Server.  (Related — my old replies to related questions here in the forums will often mention imapsync, as well.)
In general when running a mail server that's accessible to the Internet, you'll need DNS and also static (fixed) IP from your provider for OS X Server and this is the preferred and most reliable means, this if if you want to send outbound mail through the server, or you'll need to relay your inbound and outbound mail through one of the relay services providers.  Static IP and proper DNS can also be a factor when receiving mail from some of the more cautious mail servers around.  Failing to have IP and DNS correct mails mail sent from your server can be dropped, and sometimes mail sent to your server will be dropped before being passed to your server.
OS X Server does include some spam- and malware-related capabilities and various Postfix, Amavis, ClamAV and related pieces to keep a lid on most typical spam shenanigans, though you might want additional services or the replacement of the OS X Server mail server with the mail package from Kerio.

  • Trying to configure a multi-homed IIS server with CF8 on local network

I'm a bit lost trying to configure my development server in CF Builder (windows XP).  The server is Win2k with CF8.
The server sits next to my workstation, and the workstation has drive mappings to the server.
Websites on the server are under c:\websites\<sitename>
    Coldfusion is in c:\ColdFusion8
Each website has its own IP address, and is represented in the workstation hosts file (i.e. www.site1.dev = 192.168.1.xx)
The *default* website on the server is in c:\inetpub\wwwroot, and this is where cfide, etc resides
This creates a situation where CF8 admin is at a different IP from each of the sites.
So...  Do I set up each site as an RDS connection, or can I set it all up as a local server (using mappings)
I read Ben Forta's intruduction article, and am kind of lost - it didn't match up well with the server config dialogs.
I've been looking forward to seeing 'bolt'.  Any assistance is most appreciated!
    - Don

I have to admit, I'm wondering if people use other configurations to accomplish what I seek to achieve...
I am an independent developer with a number of clients.  In order to develop for them all in a setup that best duplicates their production configuration, I have set up multiple websites on a server machine, and access them from my 'workstation' computer on the same network.
So, each website (client project) has its own IP address, and I set up a record in the HOSTS file on my workstation with a URL to access it as if on the public web.
For instance, I have a very simple project, "AsiaFineConsultants" (project name, 'asiafine').
The website root on the server is located on the disk at c:\websites\asiafine.
On the server, IIS has that set up as a website, addressable at 192.168.1.42.
My workstation hosts file has www.asiafine.dev directed to 192.168.1.42.
So, on my workstation, I can browse to www.aisafine.dev and see the website.  Simple!
I have many such projects, each with its own IP, root directory, IIS website, and entry in my workstation hosts file.
****  Doesn't everyone do it this way???? *****
Ok, the server has coldfusion installed (of course), but in its own 'website' at 192.168.1.55, with root directory at c:\inetpub\wwwroot.
This works just great.  There are no problems with this arrangement.  I've been using HomeSite and CFEclipse for years in this environment - without debugging.
As I go to set up Bolt (er, Builder) I can't get the mappings to work.  The site mapping is different from the server mapping.  Perhaps this is an over-simplification, but I can get RDS, and I can get the project in the editor, but I can't browse it internally because of mapping problems.
    Problem!
    Got any ideas?

  • Where can I configure mail quotas in Lion Server?

One (minor) problem for me, after upgrading from SnowLeopard Server to Lion Server is the fact, that I can't figure out where to administer the mail quotas. So far I have just managed to find the "Server Admin". Here, under Mail -> Maintenance I can see the quotas and under Mail->Settings->Quotas I can enable quota warnings and edit them. But I can't find a place to configure individual quotas. The quota settings from SnowLeopard server have been migrated and are still in place. But how should I change them. It used to be in WorkgroupManager. But in WorkgroupManager this item is gone.
    Many thanks for your replies.

    Followng up a bit,
In looking into OD records on my Snow Leopard Server via the Inspector in WGM, I see the following attribute for one of my users for whom I've set a 1024mb mail quota.
    Name:
    MailAttriute
    Value:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
    <dict>
              <key>kAPOPRequired</key>
              <string>APOPNotRequired</string>
              <key>kAltMailStoreLoc</key>
              <string></string>
              <key>kAttributeVersion</key>
              <string>Apple Mail 1.0</string>
              <key>kAutoForwardValue</key>
              <string></string>
              <key>kIMAPLoginState</key>
              <string>IMAPAllowed</string>
              <key>kMailAccountLocation</key>
              <string>[redacted].[redacted].org</string>
              <key>kMailAccountState</key>
              <string>Enabled</string>
              <key>kPOP3LoginState</key>
              <string>POP3Allowed</string>
              <key>kUserDiskQuota</key>
              <string>1024</string>
    </dict>
I'm wondering if manually entering this attribute, and an XML value with at least the kUserDiskQuota key included will be all I need to do to implement per-user quotas in Lion Server.
If I get time, I will test and report back.

  • How to configure Mail to send from off-site

I am trying to configure Mail on a laptop that will send and receive email both went it is connected to the servers ISP (on site) and when the laptop is connected to a non-site ISP. In other words when I am in the office I am connected to the ISP that is hosting my mail server. When I am out of the office and using an ISP that is not hosting the mail server. I have configured Mail such that I can send and receive email when I am onsite. When I am offsite I can receive email but not send it. In order to fix the problem I have tried configuring the SMTP to require password authentication using a couple of different server ports (i.e. 25, 110 & 587) but have been unable to send from off site. At this point I am at a loss as what to do. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

If the off-site ISP doesn’t let you send no matter what port you use, there is little, if anything, you can do about it. Many ISPs, however, only block port 25 for all traffic outside their own network. Something that usually works in those cases is changing the outgoing server port to 587 instead of 25 in Preferences > Accounts > Account Information > Outgoing Mail Server > Server Settings, but the outgoing server in question must listen to that port for this change to work.
If the off-site ISP allows sending on port 587, but the outgoing server you want to use doesn’t listen to that port, you may solve the problem by using an independent authenticated SMTP server that allows sending from any mail account no matter where you are.
A Gmail account, for example, would allow you to do this. Instructions for setting up a Gmail account are provided here:
    http://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?answer=13275
After setting up the Gmail account in Mail and checking that it works, you can use Gmail's SMTP server to send from your other mail accounts as well:
    1. Log into your Gmail account on the web.
    2. Go to Settings > Accounts.
    3. Enable the addresses you want to be able to send from, and let Gmail validate them by verifying that you do indeed own them.
    4. For each mail account you want to send from using Gmail’s SMTP server, in Mail go to Preferences > Accounts, and choose Gmail’s SMTP server from the Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP) popup menu.

  • How to configure Mail to use different ports for POP and SMTP?

I am trying to configure Mail for my AT&T account. It requires me to configure POP (incoming) mail for port 995, and SMTP (outgoing) mail for port 465. However there doesn't seem to be an option to configure different ports for these. Is that correct, or am I missing something?
Alternatively can I configure two accounts, one for POP incoming and one for SMTP outgoing? My incoming POP account does work, but in configuring an outgoing account I still have to configure a POP server name and that will not work for the outgoing port.
Any advice on how to solve this would be appreciated.

Understand. It is really quite easy to do in Mail, too. Kappy told you how to set up the smtp piece. I gave you pop info. These two things are on different panels within Account Preferences.
To recap his and my posts
    SMTP:
In Mail Prefs, click on the accounts icon. Click on your att yahoo account on the list. On the right of the window, in the lower portion, you see an smtp server menu. Open it and select edit. Select Edit Server, then click on its Advanced tab. Set up port 465 with SSL.
    POP:
This is on a different panel in Mail PRefs Accounts. Now in Mail Prefs, click on the accounts icon. Click on your att yahoo account on the list. On the right of the window, you see three tabs, acc't info, mbox behaviors, and Advanced. This is where things are different than for smtp. You are going to configure stuff on a different "advanced" panel than where you were for the smtp stuff. Click on the advanced tab. There is a field for port with a SSL checkbox next to it and an authentication drop down menu. Check the box and it should quickfill change from 110 to 995. Autentication drop down is probably already default to password.
Did you visit the URL I gave you previously? It even gives you screen shots.

  • Configure Mail to use host name

    Hi,
I'm trying to configure Mail on a Mac Mini Server. My problem is that I can't get the from email address to show correctly. The host name is demo.company.com, however email arrives with appleserver2.local (domain name). I've setup two accounts - administrator and user. When I send email from administrator to user it shows as coming form [email protected] - what I want it to show is [email protected]?
I found an article (http://serverfault.com/questions/55342/change-email-domain-os-x-server) which seemed to ask the same question. The accepted answer made some changes to the main.cf file:
    myorigin = $mydomain
    mydestination = $myhostname localhost.$mydomain localhost $mydomain
After I made the changes I restarted the Mail service, but it didn't solve my problem. I even rebooted the server but no change.
Also, am I correct in thinking that a user's email address is configured using the Workgroup Manager under the Info tab?
    Mark

I cannot recommend this, as I am not sure all the intergrations with other apps and databases would work properly, but see:
    http://hintsforums.macworld.com/showthread.php?t=108443
Are you sure this is worth it?  My Mail folder is a long term archive, and I don't delete many messages.  Yet it is less than 20 GB.  Sounds like other apps and databases will overtake your space savings quickly.

  • Configuring Mail for using with an .me account alias?

I'm trying to configure Mail.app for my daughter (parental controlled new user)
I have an alias of my primary account and it works fine.
I would like to let her use Mail.app ONLY for that alias.
Without access to the main account, an inbox mailbox just for the alias and nothing else.
    Any suggestion?
    Thanks!

Without access to the main account, an inbox mailbox just for the alias and nothing else.
That's impossible. You need to set up a Family Pack subaccount if you want separate mailboxes.
