Newbie with ? abt access restrictions
A friend gave us their old WRT120N so we now have wifi at home. I know it doesn't have parental controls per se, but can I use the access restrictions to turn off wi-fi at a certain time each night and turn it back on in the morning? With so many wifi devices in the house it is hard to control each one individually so I'd like to just turn off wifi on the router at a certain time each night. I need to still be able to use the pc which is comected to the router via port 4, but I don't want the wii. kindle, or phones or any other device to be able to use the wifi network.
We're at firmware version v1.0.07..
. I am new to all this and don't understand how most of this works, so all help is appreciated.
Well they must be all on the network if they have internet access.
What you could do is set your PC to a Static IP address:
Ex:
IP Address: 192.168.1.10
Subnet: 255.255.255.0
Gateway: 192.168.1.1
DNS: 192.168.1.1
Then create an Access Restrictions policy that uses the IP Address range of your DHCP settings.
Ex:
Restrict access for IP Address Range 192.168.1.100 to 192.168.1.150
Then when the other devices connect they will have to follow your access policy because their IP Address will be in the restricted policy IP Address range but your PC won't be because it's IP Address is out of the policy range.
Sorry this is a little complex but the Access Restrictions on this router aren't user friendly.
Please remember to Kudo those that help you.

No Internet with Multiple Access Restrictions
Hi,
I have a WRT54Gv5 and have setup the following Access Restrictions for an Ipod Touch. Having a single AR works fine but adding another kills internet for that user. I am using the MAC filter for that user.
M-F: 6am-7:30am, allow Internet but block MSN.com, live.com and facebook.com
M-Th: 2:45pm-7:30pm, allow all
F-Sa: 6am-8:30pm, allow all
Su: 6am-7:30pm, allow all
I was thinking of using block instead of allow but that would make a lot of block windows (or maybe that is the only solution).
ThanksMake sure that your router is running on latest firmware.
If not then try to upgrade/re-flash the firmware on your router.
Download the latest firmware from Linksys website and save it on your computer. Open the setup page of the router and upgrade the firmware. After upgrading the firmware on your router, reset the router and reconfigure it. -
E3000 Access restrictions question
Hi All,
I have access restrictions set up for certain wireless devices in my home that the kids use to kick them off at 11 pm and keep them off all night. where I am running into a problem is I want to block these same devices from downloading anything without my permission my son downloads everything he sees, Comcat has already threatened to kick us off their service if we go over 250 gb bandwidth use in a month again. so I want to configure something in the router that will block all downloads for specific wireless devices. with the access restrictions I have set up I used the mac address not just the ip so they have no way around it I constantly monitor what is connected. I am using the stock firmware as well
any assistance that could be offered for this issue will be greatly appreciatedInternet Access Policy – This feature allows you to set restrictions on a more specific way. You can create up to 10 access policies which restrict access according to MAC addresses, IP addresses, or ports. To know more about setting up Internet access policies,
You can block the website even through certain time. But you cannot block the download from the Internet. -
WRT160Nv3 problem with blocking traffic using Access Restrictions
Hi.
I want something quite simple. Block Youtube. I go into "Access Restrictions", choose a name for policy 1, enable it, choose the pc from the pc list, but then...
if a click Deny, all other options will be disabled (greyed out, can't click nor write on them).
Therefore, I can't put the urls I want (youtube).
I tried writing the url with "allow" and then change it to "deny" but it will block ALL traffic.
No good.
So, how do I make a new policy just to block this one URL?
Is it normal that when I click and choose "Deny" everything gets disabled afterwards?
Thanks in advance.
Regards,
Leo
Solved!
Go to Solution.for internet access policy DENY means to restrict internet access during specified days and hours. this will block ALL internet traffic for the said schedule. website blocking by URL, blocking by means of keyword and blocking applications would then be NOT AVAILABLE as the computers would not have internet access to begin with if you have such a policy disabled.
for your case, you may want to try to set restriction to ALLOW internet access then specify youtube.com under Website Blocking by URL. this would allow computers to have access to the internet all the time (if you have the schedule set to EVERYDAY) or during specific days and hours but NOT have access to youtube. -

Access Restrictions still not working with latest firmware
Linksys WRT54GS V5 with firmware v1.52.2
I cannot believe what a frustrating experience this is. All I want to do is block facebook.com from my two high schoolers until they’ve done their homework.
Starting out, it simply did NOT work, and I discovered from this forum that the initial firmware did not work for this feature. So here is what I did:
- Downloaded v1.52.2 firmware, which is indicated as being the latest for this router
- Upgraded the router, per the instructions with this firmware.
- Pressed (and held)the reset button for the indicated 30 seconds
At this point, my router switched back to the default access point name and access password. Fortunately, I had backed up my configuration, so I then:
- Loaded my previous configuration that included my Wireless security settings, different AP name, etc...
- Powered down, then back up router, cable modem.
Router now works wireless as before, but Access Restrictions still does not restrict. Router does list the correct firmware on the admin screens.
Here is how I sent up my one (and only policy)
Internet Access Policy: 1(facebook)
Status: Enable
Enter policy name: facebook
PCs: Allow checked
Days: Everyday checked
Times: 24 hours checked
Blocked Services: NONE
Wewbsite Blocking by URL Addresses:
3 entered, they are:
http://www.facebook.com
http://static.ak.facebook.com
http://apps.facebook.com
Website blocking by keyword: All 6 boxes empty
This was easier to do on my old netgear router, and it also actually WORKED. ARGHHHHHHThanks, but that did not work either. It seems to me that, entering mac addresses ended up totally taking away all internet access for the computers on the MAC list. This is really pathetic that a concept that on the surface seems so simple, as in 'deny access to hostname xxx.com' can be so difficult to implement. If there wasn't the suggestion that this were a feature of the router, I wouldn't care. But it *is* supposedly a feature, and the feature simply does not work.
It seem to me that LinkSys has too many mutually exclusive options on a single page. It would be easier to grok if the hostname filter had it's own page, then you wouldn't be wondering what the 'deny/allow' check box did or did not do in conjunction with your selections.
Does the feature work or not? As I mentioned, this was childishly easy to accomplish on my Netgear router. If it didn't suck so bad in other areas of performance, I'd simply go back to it. -

WRT54G2 and WRT54G locks-up (freezes) when blocking web sites using Access Restrictions
I am convinced that a few Linksys routers such as WRT54G2 and WRT54G have a major issue when blocking web sites using Access Restrictions (Internet Access Policy). After a few hours of internet access by 15 wired users the Linksys locks-up and blocks all internet web access. The only solution is to restart the power on the router.
We are currently using a Linksys WRT54G2 v1 (firmware 1.0.04). We upgraded the WRT54G2 v1 firmware to the latest 1.0.04 version which did not resolve the issue. NOTE: We were previosuly using a a Linksys WRT54G v1.1 (firmware 4.21.1) until the power supply blew a week after we started blocking web sites using Access Restrictions (Internet Access Policy).
Basically, we have a T1 internet connection and a hub connected to the Linksys router. We are trying to block several web sites such as facebook, myspace, etc. for 15 wired users. We do not use wireless connections.
This is the 2nd time it happened with 2 different models.
Please help ASAP.
Thank you,
Lance
(Mod note: Edited post. Some parts off topic.. Thanks!)Also, you have already upgrade/re-flash the firmware of your Linksys Router you need to reset and reconfigure your router from scratch. Press and hold the reset button for 30 seconds...Release the reset button...Unplug the power cable from your router, wait for 30 seconds and re-connect the power cable...Now re-configure your router...

How to configure CLI/DNIS based access restriction in 5.3 ?
Hi,
does anybody have an idea how the setting
define CLI/DNIS-based access restrictions which is defined in ACS v. 4.2
can be configured in acs 5.3 ?
in v. 4 for every user in a group with 40 members a different CLI is defined for each. How can I configure that in version 5.3 ?
any help as always much appreciated!The equivalebt to NAR functionality can be found at:
Policy Elements > Session Conditions > Network Conditions > End Station Filters
Can then define an object with a set of CLI values
These objects can then be used in policy conditions. So can create a condition with a set of CLI values and then match in authorization policy for values that are included in this set and set authorizations accoridngly
Not sure if this is your use case but hopefully may be a start -
Access restrictions timing off by 1 hour
I don't know if anyone else is experiencing this problem. I have set access restrictions on my WRT610N router and they execute an hour earlier than set.
I checked the time zone settings, the system clock and all seem correct. I have a rule that is supposed to turn off access to the Internet at 11:55pm. However, the rule gets executed at 10:55pm.
This was happening on my first WRT610N which was also dropping network connections. So, I returned that unit and got a replacement.
The new unit does not drop connections but has the same timing problem. The only solution I have found is to change the time zone to the next one that is 1 hour behind my time zone.
Please let me know if anyone else has experienced this same situation.My ISP is on the same town as I am. The information they are supplying appears to be correct as my WRT54G uses the same information and its rules execute properly.
I think there is a problem with the WRT610N. My solution is temporary I hope that Linksys will fix this problem. -
WRTU54G-TM Slow Setup Page and HTML Error on Access Restrictions Page
I have a WRTU54G-TM Wireless Router. It has v1.00.21 firmware and I have done a reset with no solution. Everything seems to work, except the setup pages load very, very, very slow. Also in Internet explorer I get an HTML error on the access restrictions page. Resets don't help. The router did not have this issue until about a month ago that I recall. I can see on the access restrictions page the gray shading is all lined up except at the bottom on the page, like ther is some sort of issue in the html within the router.
One more problem, after I reset the router the saved config file I made would not change the default settings back, I had an older saved config file also, it would not work either.
Is this an issue with this firmware version? Any one else see this?

Try using different computer and check if you are getting the same problem or not...If yes then,I would suggest you to re-flash/upgrade the router's firmware,reset the router and re-configure it from scratch..Do not use the save config file. -
Access restriction error? not sure how to fix it....
I am trying to use JPEGImageEncoder and i imported import com.sun.image.codec.jpeg.*; fine but i get the following error on my code:
CODE:
JPEGImageEncoder encoder =JPEGCodec.createJPEGEncoder(outImage);
ERROR:
Access restriction: The type JPEGImageEncoder is not accessible due to restriction on required library /usr/local/java/jdk1.6.0_07/jre/lib/rt.jar
I am not sure how to fix this... anyone know what needs to be done? I am using eclipse and i see the rt.jar in my library....
thanks!MikeTheBorg wrote:
OK, I agree it's simpler for simple cases, but how do I do something like this:
JPEGImageEncoder jie = JPEGCodec.createJPEGEncoder(os);
JPEGEncodeParam jep = jie.getDefaultJPEGEncodeParam(bi);
jep.setDensityUnit(JPEGEncodeParam.DENSITY_UNIT_DOTS_INCH);
jep.setXDensity(1200);
jep.setYDensity(1200);
jep.setQuality(1, false);
jie.setJPEGEncodeParam(jep);
jie.encode(bi);
using ImageIO?
"Stupid" Eclipse+Maven refuse to compile this legacy code.It's an Eclipse error, not a Java/compiler error as such. To fix it, I believe you have to check your plug-in configuration -- imported packages here or exported packages there. Try adding "com.sun.image.codec.jpeg" to the imported packages. Something along those lines. Anyway, bottom line: this is not an issue with the code.

How to set up KM folder with Anonymous access.
Experts,
I would like to setup a KM folder with anonymous access where any document on that folder can be viewed by anonymous users by clicking on a link specific to that document. For example: http://server/irj/go/km/docs/documents/TechDocs/file_name.html
Please note that this document will not be rendered through an iView, so setting up an anonymous role will not work in this case.
Can anyone tell if this will be doable and the steps to do it?
Thanks in advance for your help.
Regards,
AbuHi Abu,
> How can I just give access to a specific folder under /irj/go/km/docs?
You have to differentiate between anonymous access to the iView behind /irj/go/km/docs (PCD auth scheme) and the permissions on KM folders (KM permissions). If you want to restrict the access, on the folders which should not be accessible for anonymous access, remove the group "Everyone" from the permissions (via details / settings / permissions). For details see http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/1b/12c49eb27011d5993800508b6b8b11/frameset.htm
Hope it helps

Create access restriction in designer using script
Hello,
I am looking for a way to automate the creation of access restriction within universe.
I looked in the API universe reference and it seems that there is no entries for such an object
For information I use Business Objects XIR2 with SP3
Thanks for any help or answerCreation/Modification of Universe Access Restrictions is not part of the Universe Designer SDK, but part of the BusinessObjects Enterprise SDK.
It requires sending requests to the CMS using the SDK to get User and UserGroup information.
For the COM-based version of the Enterprise SDK, the object is known as Overload, and described here:

Session and Access Restriction
Hi:
I have this problem with access restriction. I was trying to build a "secure" site with sessions where users are able to login and access secure webpages upon successful login. And these webpages are not available as soon as the user session expires or terminated. However, from time to time, these web pages are still accessible after logging out by pressing "back" button on the browser or book-marking these pages.
I noticed that Hotmail and old Yahoo mail system have the same problem as the one that I have just described.
I am not using https or virtual host or anythind like that, because I didn't have the resource. It is supposed to be a Basic Authentication (login/password) scheme.
Could any one light me some fresh ideas?
Thanks
Tian Lei Xia ":)To avoid the bookmarking problem, set a session attribute with the login details.
Once they login:
if(request.getParameter("username")!=null)
session.setAttribute("username","personA");
if(session.getAttribute("username")==null)
//don't display the page
else
//show them the pageThis is a very basic technique and there are other ways of doing this. As for logging out then the session should just be invalidated.
An alternative would be to use the security features of the web deployment descriptor and get the web container to handle the sessions for you (See servlet API specs 2.3 for more details).
Good luck,
Anthony
