Newbie with Distortion Problem, Audigy 2

Hello all you helpful people,?Seams common problem having spent the last 3 hours reading through the many posts on this subject, have to say the most helpful (easy to follow) was Jeremy's "read this before you post". Good man but unfortunatly it didnt help me. Just bought Aud2 ZS, fitted, run the disk that come with it. All working and i have sound, just that its distorted as though the pre-amp of the card has to higher level going into it. my PC is a P4 3Ghz, 52MB mem,?running XP SP2, and has only just been built so can be trusted as a clean install. I have disbled the on board sound in the bios. (thanks to Jeremy's post mentioned)?Calibration noise is dificult to tell if its distorted, the welcome menu "play?dvd-audio sample (24bit)"?demo thing sounds great, loud, clean and crisp, (I'm listening through?monitor audio cable and some?nice HI-Fi, my nakamichi?amp and Mordant Short floorstanders) so i know it can do it!?playing a audio cd is worse than listening to ripped WMA lossless through either creative's mediasource or windows?media player , but both un-listenable. So what's wrong? gain of the pre-amp after the DAC's? but the demo works? therfore it would appear?related to source, what controls gain with different sources? Drivers??Any help or suggesions greatly recieved. Thankyou in anticipation.

blackadder,
Could you decribe the distortion a little more? Is it crackling and popping? If so, search the Forums for "snap crackle pop," and you'll see it's a common symptom with perhaps more than one cause. I haven't had this problem with my A2ZS, so I'm no expert on the various solutions. However, because you haven't gotten a reply yet, I'll offer some initial, simple steps you can try. Muting any playback sources you aren't using will eliminate/reduce crosstalk/bus-noise. Moving the soundcard to a PCI slot far away from the video card has worked for some. Turn your volume sliders down to ~90% rather than 00%. In Speaker Setup, when you run the channel test, are "Front right, front left" etc clear or distorted? Do you get the same distortion using headphones or other speakers?Message Edited by Katman on 0-30-20070:59 AM

  • Newbie with compilation problem

    Hi, I am trying to compile my program, and I have a problem importing a class. When I try to compile, it says:
    package org.apache.axis.encoding does not exist
    encodedImage = org.apache.axis.encoding.Base64.encode(
    I think it is quite likely something to do with the Class Path, but I do not fully understand what the class path is or does exactly? Could some one please explain the Class Path? And do I need to put another line into it?
    Any responses will be very much appreciated.
    Thank you.
    Tim.

    Basically, the classpath allows Java to locate a given class. The class path usually specifies one of two items:
    Start of compiled class directory. So, names will be resolved relative to this classpath entry. If you have a class called com.foo.testing, then whatever directory contains com/foo/testing as a directory structure in the filesystem should be a classpath entry
    External or deployed JAR files. JAR files take the compiled class directory structure (above) and places it in an archive file, like a ZIP file. (Note that a lot of other things will be in the JAR file when you deploy as a web-app, but for now, this is simple enough). Rather than specifying a directory, you have to explicitly locate the JAR file itself. So, if you have a directory of JAR files, you need to specify each one.Your classpath issue seems to me related to the JAR issue. The Apache JAR that you need has to be specified on the classpath. You normally do this by:
    java -cp [classpath entries] [fully-qualified Java class name]
    Note that classpath entries can have multiple classpath items. These are separated by a colon (in Unix/Linux) or a semi-colon (Windows).
    Hope that helps.

  • Newbie with 2 problems

    Hi,
    I'm a newbie on DVDSP 3 trying to use stills for a project. There's one issue regarding this that I can't solve:
    I am trying to make the menu (background) go from black (a black image or DVDSP's option for black frames) via a slow dissolve transition into a still image. I have tried previously making a clip of this in FCP, iMovie, PhotoToMovie and Still Life, but the outcome has been really low quality in all cases. Doing it with still directly in DVDSP seems to be best.
    I have the options for transition set in the menu palette, starting with black and ending in the still, but no go.
    I have also made a slideshow of this and turned it into a track, but don't know how to bring that into the menu - if it's even possible.
    If someone can help regardless of the lousy description above, I would be very grateful.
    The second issue is that the button I placed in the menu doesn't get solid colors (I've used the Apple Panes_Navy50p). When simulating, half of the button is "miscolored". I am probably doing something stupid, but what?
    TIA for help.
    Dan

    We'll probably need more info. When you say...
    I am trying to make the menu (background) go from black
    (a black image or DVDSP's option for black frames)
    via a slow dissolve transition into a still image
    Do you mean "I want a menu that starts black, then gradually fades in the background menu image, and then my button options appear once the background has completely appeared"?
    If so, then you're better off doing it as you first described. You'd create the entire sequence in Final Cut or something else, export it as a QuickTime movie, then encode it to MPEG2, then import it as your background image for your menu. You'd set the menu's Loop point to where your background image has completely faded in: that's the point where your buttons will appear.
    You said you'd gotten "low quality" results when you tried doing this. Describe the issues with your results; also, describe how (or if) you converted your FCP clip to MPEG2. To get the best quality for this type of thing, you would NOT use a DV codec for your FCP sequence. You'd use one of the Apple Uncompressed codecs or the Animation codec... that way you get no compression of the image until you convert to MPEG2.
    Also, you'd be better off using FCP's Export->Using Compressor option to encode your fade-in into MPEG2.
    Can't help with the button as I rarely use the provided Apple Shapes. I'd recommend going with a different shape, or creating your own highlight with a black-on-white overlay graphic.

  • Newbie with application problem and question on cam chats!!

    Hi, ive just got my macbook yesterday and I bought the student edition of adobe creative suite master edition for uni. After buying this and installing it, i wanted to save the main applications in a stack for easy access rather than going to the HDD then apps then clicking on the individual. As there are approx 14 application in this package, it is too many to have in the dock so a stack out be great.
    However when i dragged them into the a new stack it carried along all the other files with each program which was messy. So i went back and did it again but by using the app itself. When i went to open them it said it had been moved and needed repairing. So i reinstalled the lot and i now have them in the application folder again.
    Please can you help me to create a stack with all the applications, i think these would need to be short cuts but i dont know how to create them. Thanks for your time.
    Oh. Leopard is amazing. I hooked up ichat with an aim account and its wicked, only have one contact though. What other instant messenger can i use that works with the cam rather than loading up windows and msn. I currently have ichat which works and adium.

    Hi shorty,
    Welcome to the bright side of the computing universe. Here's your first lesson in Mac terminology. The Mac equivalent of the Windows 'shortcut' is called an 'alias'.
    Here are ways to create and use aliases:
    To create an alias, click the item to select it, and choose File > Make Alias (or Command - L). You can create as many aliases as you need for a single item, and you can move the aliases to folders or to the desktop.
    To create an alias for an item and relocate it in one step, hold down the Command and Option keys while you drag the item’s icon to another folder or to the desktop. Release the mouse button before releasing the Command and Option keys.
    To find the original item of an alias, select the alias and choose File > Show Original.
    Enjoy your new MacBook… =)

  • Confused newbie with queue problems

    I real new to java programming and I am trying to write a program which will queue objects. It needs to be FIFO and resize itself automatically. I can find a Queue class in C# but seeing as I'm writing in Java it's not very useful.
    I'm sure it's just me not looking in the right place but I would be really grateful if anyone could push me in the right direction.

    Hi,
    You can use a list to emulate a queue. Just items to the end of the list, and take items from the beginning of the list. There are several different list implementations.
    I would use a LinkedList in this case:
    http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.2/docs/api/java/util/LinkedList.html
    There is also a queue implementation in jdk 1.5. What java version do you use?

  • Problems with Distortion in 30" Screen and new MacBook Pro 2.6 MHz

    I've got problems with distortion and shadows with this MacBook Pro model (the new 2.6 MHz Intel Core 2 Duo w/ 4 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM memory) on my Apple 30". The older MacBook Pro(s) work and look fine on this monitor (Apple 30"). Just bought the new machine last week and the monitor is about 1-1/2 years old. This one has the 200 GB Hitachi drive.
    Any ideas where the distortion is coming from? This machine has the 8600M GT w/ 512 MB Ram. Looks great until you plug into the Apple 30". Lower resolution does not help.

    What does the distortion look like? Pictures would be helpful.
    Is it similar to this: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1440820&tstart=15

  • Newbie with Sockets. Speed problem

    Hi. I am newbie with Sockets. I have read java socket tutorials and wrote these two classes. The client tries to transfer file of 13MB to the server. This is done in internal network. Client and Server use 100Mb network cards. The problem I have is speed of transfer. It takes 4-5 sec to transfer this file.
    13MB * 8 / 5sec = 20Mb/s
    It seems slow to me considering that network cards are 100Mbit. I would expect to get at least 50-70Mb/s. It is my home network and noone else is using it.
    So, what I am doing wrong?
    public class Client {
    public Client() {
    public static void main(String[] args) {
    try {
    FileInputStream in1 = new FileInputStream("c:\\Documents and Settings\\Pavel\\jbproject\\untitled1\\src\\tryw\\test.txt");
    InetAddress addr = InetAddress.getByName("server");
    Socket s = new Socket(addr, 5000);
    OutputStream out = s.getOutputStream();
    BufferedReader in = new BufferedReader(new InputStreamReader(s.getInputStream()));
    System.out.println((new Date(System.currentTimeMillis())).toString());
    byte[] buffer1 = new byte[1024];
    int g;
    while ((g=in1.read(buffer1))!=-1 ) {
    out.write(buffer1);
    System.out.println((new Date(System.currentTimeMillis())).toString());
    s.close();
    System.out.println((new Date(System.currentTimeMillis())).toString());
    }catch(Exception e){System.out.println(e.getMessage()); }}}
    public class Server {
    public Server() {
    public static void main(String[] args) {
    ServerSocket s = null;
    try {
    s = new ServerSocket(5000);
    while (true) {
    StringBuffer buffer = new StringBuffer();
    // Wait for a connection request from a client
    System.out.println("Waiting");
    Socket clientConn = s.accept();
    InputStream in = clientConn.getInputStream();
    OutputStream out = clientConn.getOutputStream();
    PrintWriter outp = new PrintWriter(out, true);
    BufferedReader inp = new BufferedReader(new InputStreamReader(in));
    String inputLine = null;
    Date date = new Date(System.currentTimeMillis());
    System.out.print(date.toString());
    while ((inputLine = inp.readLine()) != null) {
    buffer.append(inputLine);
    if (inputLine.equals("Bye."))
    break;
    Date date1 = new Date(System.currentTimeMillis());
    System.out.println(date1.toString());
    System.out.println(buffer.length());
    }catch(Exception e){System.out.println(e.toString());try {s.close();}catch(Exception he) {}}}}

    you probably want the buffering to occur under the PrintWriter, not the other way around, ie the buffering should be closest to the raw socket.
    You can bump up the size of the Buffering in the ctor, that might help.
    You can also gulp bigger blocks on the read.

    you still have the option (before your warranty expires) of purchasing an AppleCare Protection Plan, which will provide an additional two years of coverage. Once your warranty expires, you will no longer have the option of purchasing AppleCare.

  • Distortion problems with new iPod Classic

    Hello:
    I recently purchased a 160GB iPod Classic to replace a 2-year-old 60GB iPod. I had no problems updating the new one; about a zillion tracks went in very smoothly in about a half-hour. But I have noticed a couple of problems:
    First, I always listen to my iPod at work on a Klipsch dock, and even though I keep it set at a fairly low volume (all of the content is classical music), I'm getting crackling and distortion in random spots in music. It doesn't seem to matter if the music was downloaded from iTunes or imported from a CD. It's definitely not the dock, because I tried the old iPod on it and it worked as well as it always did.
    Second, when I select a playlist and start playback, I notice that more often than not, the first second or two of music is cut off. I have to press the back arrow on the iPod, and then playback is correct.
    That is a minor annoyance, but the the distortion problem is far more serious. I never had either problem on the old iPod, and I was wondering if anyone has experienced similar problems with the iPod Classic. I'd HATE to think I'd have to trash 40GB of music and start all over importing CDs.
    Thanks for any input you can give me.

    thanks for the suggestion but it did not work.
    The iPod came up asking for the password (WEP key) and i entered it. It showed connected with the router but Safari does not work and when i check the DHCP entries in see the following
    IP: 169.254.202.45
    Sub: 255.255.0.0
    This means that the connection was made but the router DHCP server did not assign an IP address to the iPod.
    This exact problem i have encoutered so far in my office, a cofeeshop and a car dealership. In all cases the wirelles was based on an older linksys router and except in the case of my office the other two were unsecured networks.
    I believe it has something to do with the firmware on those linksys routers causing a problem specificaly to iPods and i would guess iPhones too since they have the same OS.
    I'm open to any suggestions but i've tried all the ones posted in this and other forums so far with no luck.
    When i assign a static IP, the iPod again connects, the router log indicates outgoing traffic from that IP but there is no incomming traffic.

  • Newbie with Problems with E1500

    I have had an E1500 for 5 months with no problems-have Comcast internet.
    After doing firmware upgrade yesterday now my download speed is only .90 mpbs and upload is 5.50 .
    Speedtest with Comcast shows download speed at 35.5 - so they aren't the problem.
    I did change channel from 11 to 1 and that did not help.
    Just did the recycle and repowered with no help.
    I did add a blu-ray player and set up Samsung hub-would that affect the router?
    Thanks for any help you can give me.

  • Am I the ONLY one in the world with this problem!??

    before I downloaded twhirl, i upgraded to most current
    version of Adobe Air (1.5.1) from (1.5.0). It actually occcurred to
    me that i had never used adobe air before, eventhough i´ve had
    it installed for ages.
    i cannot run twhirl-0.9.air because the extension is not
    registered. being no newbie, i tried to manually register the
    extension but i cannot find an adobe air executable in Program
    Files>Adobe Air. So i started to search on how to fix the
    problem, and took at two approaches. I spent 5 minutes trying to
    find the location of the adobe air executable, and i spend ONE
    FREAKING HOUR trying to find a solution using queries similar to
    ["adobe air" extension association .air] on google. NO relevant
    results come up AT ALL. Am I the only one with this problem? how
    about a solution? Which file do I associate the extension .air
    with???????
    as a bonus WTF, i dare someone to show me a query on google
    that points to a solution to this problem within the first 20
    results, and if you find this solution WITHIN adobe.com support i
    will paypal you USD$5.
    thanks in advance
    windows vista ultimate on x32

    The Adobe AIR Application Installer is in Program
    Files/Common Files/Adobe AIR/Versions/1.0/.
    If you right click on an AIR file and choose the above file
    to open it, that should fix the problem.

  • Help with systemd problems/reply to closed thread

    @Everyone; as the previopus topic was closed, I am opening a new one here, partly to reply to some things that was said to me in the previous thread/topic (and I do not like to leave people hanging), but mainly to try and get some help with my systemd config (that I was not able to find help with in the wiki or manpages).
    @czubek; eww, that sounds rather similiar to some other operating systems I've heard of (not just, but obviously including, windows)... For me, subjectively, that is not very attractive, as being able to have a single application do a single thing, and then mixing and matching as I personally see fit is a great thing.
    @tomegun: I can indeed see your point, but if I made direct quotes on all the things I reply too, my posts would reach biblical proportions.
    Mmm-hmm, I do indeed know of "the Arch Way"; however, the system that you expose can be of varying complexity as well, and I found that the system that was presented to me by way of Sysvinit/initscripts was a way simpler system than that presented to me by systemd.
    Indeed, and I do like that; I enjoy knowing how my system works and learning more about it; however, the truth is that reading manpages and the wiki isn't always enough. And I use the numbers instead of letters in certain places as a jest, please, do not get offended by that; if you have to, get offended by my opinions.
    Ah, I have now scanned the wiki, the manpages, and have already faced problems. While part of me is saddened by this fact (as I was hoping for a smooth transition to systemd), part of me is glad that I can at least prove that everything isn't quite as simple as some people would make it out to be. More on this later in this post, as I do need help with the problems I have faced.
    And I wouldn't say that the new and old way are equally trivial, as I immediatley faced problems with "the new way". More on this later.
    Ok, I find that if the debate is polarized, then there is nothing wrong with describing it as such. I spell what I see.
    Oh my... Ignored as a matter of principle? I would say that that is an excellent way to stagnate; by that logic, moviemakers, gamemakers etcetera should ignore any and all criticism they recieve, as the critics are not contributing.... Wouldn't that lead to a complete halt in development? Isn't criticism (so long as it is constructive, obviously) a key component of (media/software) evolution?
    Ah, I see, then I  misunderstood the current state of the install media
    "Some adjustements"... Well, I guess we'll have to see how that goes, then. Hopefully it'll be smooth.
    @Everyone; Awebb possesses stunning accuracy as far as his observations go.
    @zb3; My point exactly.
    @tomegun; I believe you to be wrong; complaining (but not whining) is the first step towards improvement, as I think that I and zb3 has shown.
    Further, your last point (where you talk about "deep understanding of Y" and whatnot) is basically saying that only devs and programmers can contribute, so zb3's observation would be correct.
    Also, making suggestions is part of constructive criticism; you can do that even if you can't code, e.g. by saying "X works badly because it makes Y crash; couldn't we replace X with something akin to Z?". This is a valid point even if you have no intricate understanding of X, Y or Z, and if it is impossible to replace X for one reason or the other, it's not hard to reply with "Replacing X is impossible because of reason Q", and then see if someone can solve reason Q etcetera.
    zb3's example is obviously helping; for one, it would allow people to know taht they can't boot with systemd in certain cases, or that installing/runing systemd can break their system. I would consider that rather important information.
    @Everyone; Now then, to see if I can (or rather, if I can get help to) shed some light on some problems I've been having.
    My transition to systemd went pretty smooth (besides the fact that I couldn't use 'systemctl' to set anything, and neither duckduckgo nor any posts in the forums could help me (the error I continously got was "Failed to issue method call: Launch helper exited with unknown return code 1") and that there are no manpages/tips on how to configure the files for "localtime" and "adjtime", which would've been good considering some syntax have changed) to about halfway through, to the point where I was supposed to start using systemd for my daemons.
    Now then, to the main problem; first, I tried running
    "systemctl enable syslog-ng.service"
    and got the following message;
    "ln -s '/usr/lib/systemd/system/syslog-ng.service' '/etc/systemd/system/syslog.service'
    ln -s '/usr/lib/systemd/system/syslog-ng.service' '/etc/systemd/system/multi-user.target.wants/syslog-ng.service'"
    Since it doesn't exclusively say that something went wrong (at least as far as I can understand), I pondered the message a bit, but moved on to try and start dbus by issuing
    "systemctl enable dbus.service",
    to which I got the reply
    "The unit files have no [Install] section. They are not meant to be enabled using systemctl."
    This I can only assume is an error message of some sort, especially seeing as it says "not meant to be enabled using systemctl", but the wiki rather explicitly states that that is what I am supposed to do.
    I dare not move on (or attempt to start other daemons) without further advice, as I fear I might break my system. Any ideas as to how to solve this would be greatly appreciated.

    tcmdvm wrote:
    The message;
    "ln -s '/usr/lib/systemd/system/syslog-ng.service' '/etc/systemd/system/syslog.service'
    ln -s '/usr/lib/systemd/system/syslog-ng.service' '/etc/systemd/system/multi-user.target.wants/syslog-ng.service'"
    indicates that running "systemctl enable syslog.service" is now enabled.
    If you try running sytemtctl enable <whatever>.service and get
    "The unit files have no [Install] section. They are not meant to be enabled using systemctl." means there is no <whatever>.service file available to enable.
    The dbus.service as far as I know is already enabled when installing systemd and doesn't require any action.
    Ah, right, systemd is chatty (I'm of the old skool; if nothing is/goes wrong, a program should keep quiet).
    Oh ok, then I should dare more on.
    ZekeSulastin wrote:To be a bit more precise, it means the service is there but it's only used as a dependency for something else; the [Install] section of the file is what tells systemctl where to link it and such.  Also, where exactly in the wiki were you told explicitly to 'systemctl enable dbus.service'?  I can easily point you to the sections in both installation guides that tell you how to set things like /etc/localtime et. al (also `man 7 archlinux`), but not the one that said to manually enable dbus.
    Ah, I see; and well, I was told right here, going from the top, to "Enable Daemons formerly listed in rc.conf [...] For a translation of the daemons from /etc/rc.conf to systemd services, see: List of Daemons and Services.", and, using the list, dbus is mentioned there, as you can see. Since I started from the top, I did not know that you didn't need to enable that service. Perhaps it could be added to the descriptions of the relevant services in the Wiki which ones are autostarted?

    Meh, I directly refer to the relevant people, they can easily see their own old posts in the previous thread, etcetera... I think te ones who have something to say will be able to find my replies to their previous statements (or so I hope). For now, as everyone can see, I quote stuff (but man might I make some huge posts if I ever post again in the future, if I quote what I reply to).

    Ah ok, thanks (or perhaps a cautious thanks? Moving it to "newbie corner" might, after all, be a subtle insult...).

    Hmm, I think it means cop-out for lack or proper arguments/responses... But ok, I'll let it slide, for now (mainly as I can't do much else).

    Ah ok, thank you. Now, having abandoned all hope, I'll start configuring again and see how it goes... May the void protect me. If I die, grieve not for me, but remember me in the fight against hard-to-configure applications.

    Actually, what am I supposed to do with "hwclock"? the List of Daemons only says that I shouldn't run that in tandem with ntpd, but I'm not running ntpd, so... How do I get hwclock with systemd?
    Edited for additional question.
