Newbies question with iPhone 4 sync

I have installed itune 10 and using Win 7. I hope that some kind soul can advise on how to get my iphone to sync, D/L  and able to listen to the music transferred or D/L. Thanks

Just attach your iPhone to your computer, open up iTunes if he doesn't automatically, and if it is the first time you use that iPhone (new bought or restored), iTunes will walk your through the setup.
Any way, iTunes will auto-detect the iPhone, the iPhone will appear in the sidebar, click it to set sync settings like which music, video, apps and so on to sync.

  • Dumb newbie question on iphone development

    Hi there, just a quick dumb question: Can i develop Iphone apps in Windows platform? This is b'coz I dun have Mac machine.

    a simple answer is YES in opposite of what you read here.
    +I'm a .NET developer and I started building web apps in .NET (ASP.NET).+
    The iPhone/iPod Touch supports 2 different ways to develop something for it, a Web Application (applications that runs on Safari browser, like Facebook and Wordpress) and a SDK Application (Self contain applications, like games, utilities, etc). *Under Windows, you can do any Web Application*, you will need a Mac to do SDK Applications
    Reading the Wrox book entitled: Professional iPhone Application Development (ISBN 0470251557) in page 5 the writer tells about 4 levels to do Web Apps:
    *Level 1 - Full compatible website/application*
    The ground level approach is to develop a Web site/app that is “ iPhone/iPod touch – friendly ” and is fully compatible with the Apple mobile devices. These sites avoid using technologies that the Apple mobile devices do not support, including Flash, Java, and other plug - ins. The basic structure of the presentation layer also maximizes use of blocks and columns to make it easy for users to navigate and zoom within the site. This basic approach does not do anything specific for iPhone/iPod touch users, but makes sure that there are no barriers to a satisfactory browsing experience.
    (just like http://del.icio.us/
    *Level 2 - Web site/application optimized for Safari*
    The second level of support for iPhone and iPod touch is to not only provide a basic level of experience for the Mobile Safari user, but also to provide an optimized user experience for users who use Safari browsers, such as utilizing some of the enhanced WebKit CSS properties supported by Safari.
    *Level 3 - Dedicated iPhone/iPod Touch web site/application*
    A third level of support is to provide a Web site tailored to the viewport dimensions of the iPhone and iPod touch and provide a strong Web browsing experience for Apple device users. However, while these sites are tailored for iPhone/iPod touch viewing, they do not always seek to emulate Apple UI design. And, in many cases, these are often stripped - down versions of a fuller Web site or
    application.
    (just like Amazon.com and Facebook)
    *Level 4 - Native - looking iPhone/iPod touch application*
    The final approach is to provide a Web application that is designed exclusively for iPhone and iPod touch and closely emulates the UI design of native applications. One of the design goals is to minimize user awareness that they are even inside of a browser environment. Moreover, a full - fledged iPhone application will, as is relevant, integrate with iPhone - specific services, including Phone, Mail, and Google Maps.
    I did 2 web apps using Dreamweaver for Windows, using Level 4, coding plain HTML - there is no visual aid, but you just pick up an iPhone/iPod Touch (or if you don't have this, use Safari browser or any WebKit Browser).
    You can always start here
    Remember, if you really want to build a self contain application in Objective-C/Java, then you need a Mac running Leopard (Mac OS X 10.5), with XCode (the Mac Visual Studio) and the iPhone SDK
    Hope that with this you can see some light under Windows

  • RE: Issues with iPhone 4 sync/charge/restore ERRORS after iOS6 upgrade

    I saw a lot of people through the forum that experienced the exact issue I have and I spent 4 hours trying to resolve it myself with frantic research.
    What helped me get my iPhone back:
    This morning I received the message to upgrade my iphone 4 to the ios6 upgrade through my home internet. I accepted.
    After the download went through my phone directed me to connect to itunes. I complied.
    After connecting to itunes it informed me that my phone was in recovery mode and that I must restore my iphone.
    Yet again, I complied.
    After hitting restore and it going through the restore process, it instructed me of an error and could not complete restore. My computer refused to recognise my phone at all and said that I needed to enter my passcode.
    My phone then continued to tell me to connect to itunes before it then went a step further and began restarting and just had the apple logo and/or loading circle for about 4 hours. No matter how long I held the home and power button on it just kept doing the same thing and to be honest, I was about to throw my phone out the window.
    I researched different tips on here and other forums for hours and pressing all the reset buttons.
    I downloaded itunes on a different computer and followed this tip

    Re: iOS 6 update attempt bricked iPhone 4s
    19-Sep-2012 12:28 (in response to geoff566)
    This is the proper procedure as per HT1808, Unable to update or restore
    Plug the sync cable into your computer, but leave it disconnected from your iPhone
    Hole the sleep/wake and home buttons down until the phone powers off completely
    Set the phone down on a flat surface and hold the home button down
    While holding the home button down, connect the sync cable to your iPhone
    Continue holding the home button until you see the Sync to iTunes screen (iTunes logo & USB connector)
    If you have iTunes running, you should see the alert box stating the iTunes has detected an iPhone in recovery mode
    After many tries my phone then told me to connect to power as the battery was dead. After resetting it also had the same apple logo and loading screen.
    Finally, itunes recognised my phone and went back into recovery mode. I restored  my iphone with my fingers crossed. It downloaded the new iphone software update as well and before the restore was finished my phone reset once again and displayed an error message. I was infuriated and thought nothing would solve it.
    Once again, I repeated the procedure until recovery mode was deteced and restored my iphone again.
    This time it proceded a little further than before and successfully restored completely to factory settings and my phone finally switched on like it was a brand new phone.
    I then set up my phone and connected it to my laptop and backed it up from there.
    It was A LOT of fiddling around and just luck of repeating the same process over and over but this is what solved the issue that seems to be very common at the moment.
    Any questions you're welcome to ask. I reassure you, I tried EVERY hold down button reset procedure and every time it failed and my computer absolutely was not registering my phone.
    Hope this helps anyone.

    Ajax, i tried the procedure you have given here and it worked first go. Thanks you legend.

  • Problems with iPhone 3G sync

    When I try to sync my iPhone 3G the sync never completes. I mean I have let it run for excess of 48 hours just to see. Also the applied changes ie, photos, music playlists etc are not being applied. I s this a problem with iTunes or with my phone. I'm posting here because I believe it to be a problem with my phone as my iPods and my wifes phone sync fine. any help here would be most appreciated.

    my phone actually does 'sync' it just never completes the job. each time I go throught the process some things are actually done as for as changes I am trying to implement but others are not. the acytual syunc process just never stops, like I said before it will say 'sync in progress' for literally days without completing.

  • Several Problems/Questions with IPhone 3G SMS

    Just bought the new Iphone 3G in the UK and I am rather disappointed. Besides the fact that I have to recharge the battery once a day , I could not find the following standard functionalities for text messaging. Maybe somebody knows if there is an easy fix:
    1) I want my iphone to ring when I am called but I only want it to vibrate when I get a text message. I cannot see how to do that
    2) I would like to have delivery receipts with every text I send. Any way to do that?
    3) I cannot see how I can forward a text message
    4) I cannot see how many characters I type in a text message. This leads to me sending 2 text messages just because I typed in 1/2 more characters
    Any solution to the abov problems?
    Many thanks

    Regarding your first question, have you tried changing the New Text Message sound option to None, while leaving Vibrate On under the Ring settings? These options are found under Settings -> Sounds.
    As per your other questions, I don't think there is support for those features currently.

  • Issue with iPhone Calendar sync

    My office uses MS Exchange account (Outlook) for emails & calendar. I use Google Calendar Sync app to sync my outlook calendar events to my personal gmail calendar (1-way sync: Outlook to Google). Everything was fine until I bought the iPhone 4S. Apparently, when I open any event on the iPhone Calendar app, it automatically Accepts the invitation and sends a Accept notification to the meeting organizer & my personal gmail address is being added into the Attendees list of the organizer. So when I open any appointment on my iPhone to even read it, it sends a notification from my personal account to an office colleague or worse, to a business customer. Is there a way for iPhone to stop accepting or declining meetings & simply show my calendar items whatever status they are in. As I sync regularly, I want my iPhone calendar to display the exact information which is in my Outlook calendar and do nothing else.

    This sounds just like the problem I am having since downloading the latest version of i-Tunes. Initially i-tunes wasn't recognised so after reinstalling i-Tunes and it's 5 other associated programmes I found that there was a cmpatability isuue (Right click i-tunes icon and go to compatability tag) Once this was sorted my Outlook calendar would not sync with my i-phone. 2 weeks later I am told it is because I have Outlook 2002 and need to upgrade. Frustrating as it worked ok before the latest upgrade.

  • Just lost most user-installed apps with iPhone 4 sync

    I just plugged in my wife's iPhone 4 (iOS 6, Mac OS 10.7.4, iTunes 10 -- not 11 yet!), received a message I've seen before about finding items on the iPhone that weren't on iTunes and did I want to transfer them, and thinking that they were tunes I had deleted on iTunes recently, said no I didn't want to transfer them back to iTunes. (This has happened before and I had to re-delete the stuff I'd deleted from iTunes previously.)
    Then the phone synced, and lo and behold, I think every single user-installed app on her phone has disappeared. I can't find any record of them on the Apps tab in iTunes, they're just gone!
    After some research that yielded no help, I decided to restore her phone from an earlier backup, but the only backup that was available was not dated, and when I restored the phone to that backup, it was in the same state as before -- no user-installed apps!
    Doesn't iTunes store multiple backups from which you can restore your iPhone? Shouldn't I be able to restore her iPhone from say, yesterday's backup and get back all those apps?
    She wants my head, mates, and I don't even know *** happened?
    Please advise, if you have any...
    With thanks,
    Dustin
    Dartmouth, NS, Canada

    You should be able to go to the App Store on her iPhone, click "Updates" in the lower right, then "Purchased" on top, and see all her purchased apps there.  You can restore them from there.

  • Over-riding PC with iphone when syncing is set to automatic

    I inadvertedly deleted my calendar appointments in outlook [2003]. They still exist in my iphone calendar. If I sync, I fear my wiped out outlook file will over-ride my iphone calendar and I will lose all my calendar information in my iphone. I cant change the over-ride settings in iTunes, as the syncing starts automatically. Can someone help, please? Can I somehow back up my iphone calendar before syncing and possibly losing the data? Or can I change the iTunes settings without the iphone being connected?

    There is an iTunes global setting to not automatically sync when any iPod or iPhone is connected - iTunes > Preferences under the Devices tab.
    When syncing calendar events and contacts with an empty supported calendar and address book application on your computer, doing so will erase all calendar events and contacts on the iPhone. Before syncing calendar events with an empty Outlook calendar, enter one calendar event in Outlook. Make this event up if needed which can be deleted later. This should provide a merge prompt when syncing this data, which you want to select.
    Contacts and calendar events are included with your iPhone's backup, which is updated as the first step during the iTunes sync process. If syncing with Outlook erases all calendar events from your iPhone, do not sync your iPhone again before restoring your iPhone with iTunes. Select Restore under the Summary tab for your iPhone sync preferences and when prompted to backup or update your iPhone's backup, decline this prompt.

  • Problems with iPhone calendar sync and Gmail calendar.

    Ive been trying to sync my iPhone calendar with the Gmail calendar on my iPhone but i cannot get this to work. neither way. ive been searching the web for hours now, been to many google websites which are suppose to help with this but it wont work.

    Any help would be much appreciated!
    Edit: the iPhone calendar works perfect with my MobileMe account, but I want it on Gmail as well ( if not both is possible I would prefer Gmail )

    I tryed to add my gmail account to the microsoft exchange as it says in on of the links above, but the only thing that happend was that i got all of the email contact on gmail addon on my iPhone, which was really annoying since i cant call an email adress.
    Anothing thing I would like to add is that i also would like to sync my contacts to Gmail.
    I am fully aware that I have MobileMe, but I would like to have it synced to Gmail because thats what I use each day and I have 2-step-authentication.

  • Photos taken with iPhone 3G syncing at low resolution

    Something has changed with my iPhone 3G setup. I take a lot of pictures with it and now for some reason the picture files on my MacBook Pro are 360x270 instead of the 1600x1200 the phone is capable of. I know it didn't do this before, what's going on? Is there a setting to adjust this? Thanks.
    Mark

    Are you using finder to look at your photos? Stay out of the finder! iPhoto organizes itself so that it can function. If you do anything to that structure, you risk losing your precious photos. The data folder has always been there.

  • Service request question with iPhone 4

    Tody I requested a service on my iPhone 4 and did all the steps they required, and it went successfully. I took my iPhone to the UPS store and gave it to them while giving them my repair ID. Later I realized that I needed to change the return address so I called Apple and while I was doing this someone in the dispatch department cancelled my first service request. The representative that I had talked to was kind enough to create a new one for me and that worked out but I had already given my iPhone to the UPS store with the old repair ID. Should I be worried that I will not recieve my iPhone back now that the repair ID I used to give the iPhone to the UPS store has been cancelled? The representative told me that the dispatch department would take care of everything, but I am still worried that now I might not get my phone successfully returned...

    Hello Blowem,
    call Apple Support back maybe in the AM
    tomorrow to see if they have all of your
    info correct. Make sure you have your serial
    number and all of the UPS data on hand.
    Be patient and polite. I have never had anything
    but excellent support from Apple. Hope this holds
    true for you.
    Good Luck,
    A

  • Newbie question with puts/gets

    I'm having trouble getting put and gets to work. Right now I do an insert into the DB (returns 0) with data in the data.data fields and then when I get it I always get empty space. I was hoping that someone might be able to help. Here is the two snippets of code that I'm using:
    int
    insert_data(DHT_DBS my_dbs, Message *msg)
        DBT key, data;
        char myData[(u_int32_t)strlen(msg->payload)];
        char myKey[41];
        memcpy(&myData,(msg->payload), (u_int32_t)strlen(msg->payload));
        memcpy(&myKey,(msg->dest.keystr), 41);
        printf("in insert\n");
        /* Zero out the DBTs */
        memset(&key, 0, sizeof(DBT));
        memset(&data, 0, sizeof(DBT));
        key.data = msg->dest.keystr;
        data.data = msg->payload;
        data.size = (u_int32_t)strlen(msg->payload);
        /* Put the data into the database */
        int val = 0;
        val = my_dbs.dht->put(my_dbs.dht, 0, &key, &data, 0);
        printf("after put %d\n", val);
        return 0;
    void get_data(DHT_DBS * my_dbs, Message *msg)
        DBT key, data;
        char myData[200];
        int ret;
        /* Initialize our DBTs. */
        memset(&key, 0, sizeof(DBT));
        memset(&data, 0, sizeof(DBT));
        memset(&myData,0,200);
        key.data = msg->dest.keystr;
        key.size = sizeof(Key);
        data.data = &myData;
        data.flags = DB_DBT_USERMEM;
        ret = my_dbs->dht->put(my_dbs->dht,NULL, &key, &data, 0);
        if (ret) {
            printf("No records found for '%s'\n", msg->dest.keystr);
        else
            printf("Record found\n");
            printf("Found: %s\n", myData);
            // if we did find what they were looking for, send a get_response message to the source
            // we may need to add another object to the message struct
    }I'm just trying to test this. my main simply calls the following after I define the variables and open the data bases:
    insert_data(mydb,m);
    get_data(&mydb, m);Now the interesting thing is it does find the key that I inserted with insert_data. However, the data stored with the key is always "" and not the characters that it should be. I'm just wondering if I'm doing something wrong. Any tips would be appreciated.

    Alright I'm back to a different problem now.
    int
    insert_data(DHT_DBS my_dbs, Message *msg)
        DBT key, data;
        char myData[(u_int32_t)strlen(msg->payload)];
        char myKey[41];
        memcpy(&myData,(msg->payload), (u_int32_t)strlen(msg->payload));
        memcpy(&myKey,(msg->dest.keystr), 41);
        printf("in insert\n");
        /* Zero out the DBTs */
        memset(&key, 0, sizeof(DBT));
        memset(&data, 0, sizeof(DBT));
        key.data = msg->dest.keystr;
        data.data = msg->payload;
        data.size = (u_int32_t)strlen(msg->payload);
        /* Put the data into the database */
        int val = 0;
        val = my_dbs.dht->put(my_dbs.dht, 0, &key, &data, 0);
        printf("after put %d\n", val);
        return 0;
    void get_data(DHT_DBS * my_dbs, Message *msg)
        DBT key, data;
        char myData[200];
        int ret;
        /* Initialize our DBTs. */
        memset(&key, 0, sizeof(DBT));
        memset(&data, 0, sizeof(DBT));
        memset(&myData,0,200);
        key.data = msg->dest.keystr;
        key.size = sizeof(Key);
        data.data = &myData;
        data.flags = DB_DBT_USERMEM;
        ret = my_dbs->dht->get(my_dbs->dht,NULL, &key, &data, 0);
        if (ret) {
            printf("No records found for '%s'\n", msg->dest.keystr);
        else
            printf("Record found\n");
            printf("Found: %s\n", myData);
            // if we did find what they were looking for, send a get_response message to the source
            // we may need to add another object to the message struct
    }I corrected that to reflect the get, but now the put doesnt' seem to be working. I thought I followed getting_started example pretty closely. Ret is -30989 when it attempts the get but the put returns 0.

  • Newbie question with Netbeans: How do I get a component in a panel

    I've made a class called PatternComponent that extends JComponent which draws some patterns and stuff that I specify. I've been using a very basic GUI that I threw together in eclipse, but I need to clean it up and I've decided that NetBeans is more apt for the job.
    I've figured out how to get my buttons to work, but I can't find how to add my PatternComponent to the panel I want to stick it in.

    This is not a Netbeans forum.

  • Sync existing contacts from Adressbook.app with iPhone fails

    Hi!
    Syncing works as advertised between my Mac, .Mac, Addressbook.app and my iPhone for ALL NEW CONTACTS, no matter where they are created (iPhone or Mac).
    However ... if I choose to sync an old contact from Adressbook.app with iPhone the sync process in iTunes will always stall!
    My setup, looks like this:
    I sync a dedicated group of Addressbook.app with iPhone. Whenever I choose to add an old, existing contact from my Addressbook database to this group the next sync and all ongoing syncs will quit unexpectedly. iTunes will show a message telling me that iPhone disconnected.
    The only way to cure this behavior I have come across is to manually
    * enter a new contact with the existing data in Addressbook.app and adding it to my iPhone group
    * delete the existing contact in Addressbook.app
    * sync via iTunes
    This is VERY annoying and tedious.
    Anyone with a solution besides resetting sync history in iSync? This doesn't seem to help.
    Thanks

    Hi Shady!
    I don't think that clearing the sync history is the only cure to this problem. At least it does not help for me. I believe that the problem with contact syncing is not monocausal, hence the cure with the sync history won't heal the manifold of root causes.
    My situation is as follows:
    What works great when syncing back and forth between the iPhone and the addressbook.app
    . *Adding new* contacts or updating contacts +on the iPhone+
    . *Editing or updating existing* contacts +on the iPhone+
    . *Adding new* contacts +in addressbook.app+
    What does not work at all:
    . Choosing any existing (created before using or syncing with iPhone) contact and sync it with the iPhone
    I sync only a certain group in addressbook.app, not all contacts.
    The only way to cure this problem for me so far: Adding a new contact on iPhone or addressbook.app, which is a pain given that all the contact data is already present.
    Interesting enough this was not a problem from the beginning. During the first couple weeks or months I could choose any of my "old" contacts and grow that group as I saw fit and everything worked flawlessly...
    Very disappointing...

  • Problem with iTunes and sync

    I have a problems in syncing:
    iTunes always show me when I was open iTunes as:
    "iTunes cannot sync information with iPhone because syncing has been disabled on this computer."
    But my setting is enable the syncing
    Can anyone help me please ??

    Hi,
    Try enabling syncing from the iSync applications preferences window. Just check Enable syncing on this computer.
    If the issue persists, try resting the syncing history in the same preference window as described here: http://support.apple.com/kb/TA23030
