Newby needing basic help

this has to be the least intuitive program I've ever used. I'm trying to set my input so my son can record from his keyboard, but there is no preferences option under audio input for anything other than built-in audio. I have Line-in active in my system sound preferences. This is driving me nuts because I also would like to transfer some old LPs and cassettes to my computer.

I too am new to Apple. I just bought a Mac Laptop with the dual Intel setup and I am struggling with my m-audio keystation. I can not get it to access any of the sounds. It is acting as if it needs a driver, but everywhere I go it says that no driver is necessary. I feel like I am missing something. I have read the posts here and I feel like I have tried all this options can someone please help.
Also, I am using FastTrack for my inputs. Anyone using condenser mics requiring phantom power? How are you setting this up. I have a mixer that I can run a line out of into the guitar line of of the FastTrack but I am unsure if this will work.
One last issue I am having issues with my monitors using Fast Track. My left speaker works at the proper volume level for the first couple minutes of a song then cuts to a very low volume. Is this a problem with the monitor or Fast Track.
I realize must of this relates to M-Audio stuff but any help would be appreciated. I really want to get up and recording but I am limited to loops right now.

Need basic Help - SG300 with vlan and routing

Hi,
i need some basic help with configuring vlan/routing.
Situation:
DSL Router - Cisco 300 - XenServer
192.168.1.253 - 192.168.1.19 - 192.168.1.10 (mgmt ip)
goal is, to reach from inside xenserver vms the internet.
vms = 192.168.2.x
gateway ip = 192.168.2.1
what i did:
- configured vlan 102, tagged, with the xenserver port
- configured on xenserver a network with vlan id 102, attached to the vm
- this network is conntected to an external bond
- configured ipva4 interface: vlan102 - Static - IP 192.168.2.1 (this is the gateway ip of the vms)
- automatic configured IPv4 Route: 192.168.2.0/24 next hop 0.0.0.0, Directly connected
So at the moment i cant ping from inside a vm to the DSL Router (192.168.2.2 to 192.168.1.253)
any ideas what i misconfigured or whats wrong?

Hi Tom,
ok, that make sense. I can ping the router now inside vms from 192.168.2.x network.
But i cant ping external adresses, error: Destination net unreachable.
My other problem i have, i cant reach any server from outside over router portforwarding.
How do i have to configure the upload port to the dsl router? Is it a access port or a trunk
port with all vlans (tagged or untagged?) At the moment ive a tagged Trunkport with all vlans.

Beginner to iDVD, needs basic help to get started

I am in need of help. I want to make DVDs of my old 8mm tapes. I have a Sony 8mm video camera. What do I need , like adapters, cables or cards to make this happen. I have iDVD on my system, but have never attempted anything like this before. I just recently purchased this computer. Can ya'll help me get started?

in Oracle we have a schema concept - All objects with segments are within the schema
Every schema can use one or more tablespaces
Each tablespace should have at least one datafile associated.
With that said, You can run this query to know where is your schemas:
Select owner,tablespace_name,sum(bytes/1024/1024) MB from dba_segments group by owner,tablespace_name;
And to check the location of each tablespace:
select tablespace_name,file_name from dba_data_files order by 1,2;
And to check all directories that have some file from the database

I need basic help on filling out an on line form.

I have used Adobe Acrobat to fill out forms on line, and it was always a no-brainer (set up that way by the author, I'm guessing). So I never explored the details of how it works. I am trying to fill out forms for an upcoming doctor appointment, but am unable to type on the lines. I did a bit of reading and then tried to use the "typewriter tool", but could not figure it out. I looked at the properties of the document, and the author marked "allowed" on the form being "fillable", so I thought that meant answers could be "filled in" on the lines. In the past, I've noticed that documents I could type on had light shading on areas I could type. This one doesn't. I'm not sure if I need to purchase Acrobat software or some other software to do this, or what I need to do. Can anyone help?

Hello, I'm a Cubase SX 3 user trying to learn Logic and switch. I'm having basic trouble setting everything up and getting started. Such as inputs and main output etc. I'm used to the way its all done in Cubase. Does anyone know of a good quick start tutorial that will get me on my way?

Newby needs basic tutorial for dvdsp

I'm sorry for this question but I am new to DVDSP. I was using Idvd which was pretty straight forward but now that I have studio pro I am lost. I bought the Martin Sitter and Adrian Ramseier book but I can't make head nor tails of it.
I looked for DVDSP for Dummies but I guess they don't have one.
Can anyone recommend a simple, basic book on how I can get started? (Or can someone explain to me, like I was a four year old, how I can simply just export my project from FCP to DVDSP-Burn it on to a disc? I can't even figure that out!
If I can just get started I know I can get going with all of the good stuff later.

Creating book, need basic help!

My predecessor created an InDesign book using CS2. I am to create the new version of the book using CS4. I have her template/final version from last year. It is a reference book made up of a series of articles. I need to replace the old with the new. Is there a shortcut for this? I have tried cutting and pasting to no avail. Thanks for your help.

Your in for a crash course on Paragraph Styles.
TNR full just means the creator used Times New Roman - Full justified for that block of copy. Study the layout; as you insert your text cursor in different areas, you'll see the styles/formatting used.
Get a feel for the layout; It starts with a header style, followed by a body copy style, perhaps finishes with {TNR - Last} just before the next article. If the person was adept, Head Style may automatically be followed by Body. (You can get by without understanding this)
Save a copy, Open YOUR copy document, select all text (insert cursor, select all, > Delete) File > Place the new copy, sounds like you did that, but the formatting isn't ready, no surprise.
Insert text cursor into one spot, or several paragrapghs of body copy, click the appropriate para style. You need to study the styles against last version to understand the usage. One (or more) styles are Parent Styles - other styles are based on the parent for instances of Indent, or Numbered/Bulleted or Last Paragraph. (Double click a Style > General Tab shoes if it based upon and other tabs show different attributes)
You see mixed, you selected more than one paragraph. When you see a style highlighted with a + next to it, there is a modification used.

Newby needs simple help: modem and ooma

I do not currently have a high speed internet and I'm considering my options. It appears I may choose a cable provider (I don't have cable tv) and use the cable high speed internet to set up ooma as my phone service, and use an Airport station to set up wireless internet on my Intel Duo 20" iMac and G3 iBook. My main question is..... does the Airport Extreme station function as both a cable modem and a router, or would I need to also buy a cable modem ? Also, if anyone has experience with using ooma for phone service, i want to know if it works well and sets up easy with cable internet and an Airport Extreme. Also, will my 6 year old G3 ibook work with the new Airport Extreme ? Thanks for any help...

The AirPort Extreme does not have a modem, so you would need to set up a cable or DSL modem in your network.
Sorry, I know nothing about the the ooma service, so can't offer any comments about that.

Newbie needs basic help-HELP!(configuration)

I've got Solaris installed on my amd box which has a Radeon vid card and a d-link nic (DFE-530TX+).
So right now I only have 16-bit VGA which is hard to navigate and I don't have net connection. So on my windows box which has a network connection, I downloaded the patches I need for the vid/nic cards and saved them to floppy.
Could someone walk me through the steps/commands I need to use to mount my floppy and copy the appropriate files etc off of them, unzip, and install?
I'm trying to learn solaris but first just need to enable a decent gui with a net connection. Any help is greatly appreciated. Also, if you think it would be easier for me, on my Solaris/amd box, I'm also dual booting w/ win2k so maybe I could somehow mount the windows partition and avoid dealing w/ the floppy? once you have the vpn tunnel established, you 'should' be able to browse the other macs on the network as you would at work. This of course is dependent on the other systems annoucing themselves vs. you having to specificy an IP and /or name - but yes, once you have the vpn setup, you should be able to see the other machines with shared folders.
You could as you suggested just open ports on your work firewall that would allow apple file sharing, and then from home, connect the the firewall IP on the internet (using dyn dns if your work ip is not static), and map to the drives. This is less secure that the vpn as, once the ports are open at work, your mac passwords are the only thing protecting your folders and data. I don't use filemaker, but it all you need is folder access to the database then this is a cheaper alternative. Just setup your router to forward requests for port 548 (Apple file sharing) to the mac with the database folder. Just backwards from what your described you did previously. Just make sure you have good security setup on the 'server'.

Need basic help with my new iMac

Can someone please assist me with these questions?
When I click on F3 (wireless keyboard), I can see all my windows that are open (I think this feature is called expose?), but it just shows the windows for about a second and then I see my desktop. I'm not able to select the window I want to activate. It used to show me all the windows open and then I could just click on the one I want to activate. I don't know what I did to change this.
Also, I added some stuff (widgets?) on my dashboard and I don't know how to remove them. How do I do this?

It sounds like you have Expose set to "Desktop" rather than "All windows" or "Application windows". Check your settings in System Preferences....

Cannot launch Iphoto Diet, need basic help

In trying to rid myself of massive amounts of duplicate photos, I read to try the free Iphoto Diet. The directions of the website ask you to click on the icon to "launch" the program. I assume they are talking about the image to the right at the beginning. When I click on it, though, nothing happens. What am I doing wrong?

I am confused as to what you are saying. You downloaded the program. Then you dragged the icon in the mounted image to the applications folder. Once in the application folder you double click the iPhot Diet application icon to launch the program. Is this what you did?

Basic help needed very much

I have an Epson 3800 printer and Adobe Elements 7 (Epson advised me that I should buy some version of Photoshop to take full advantage of the printers capabilities).....Problem is need basic info on how to set all the buttons to make a decent print. There are many,many choices on various drop down tabs all through the process of making a print. Also, It seems that all my pictures are 72 ppi ...is this a default setting ? Or, did I do something wrong when I downloaded them from my camera ? PLEASE help ! If at all possible someone could guide me through the process step by step I would be very, very grateful. I need guidance from the download, through the myriad of buttons (ie: color management, size selections (why do I have to tell both Elements and the printer the size of my paper?!!$#@) what's up with 72ppi on all my pics, if i change to 300 ppi wont pics get worse ? )
I called Epson and asked them to walk me through a print but they wouldnt because they said I'm going through Elements first and that is not their responsibility! BUT THEY ADVISED ME TO GET ELEMENTS IN THE FIRST PLACE !!!

As far as the resolution, stated in pixels per inch (ppi), the images from your camera have a fixed number of pixels, so resolution is determined by the size of the print...the larger the print, the larger the pixels, the lower the resolution. 300 ppi is considered optimum for printing...higher won't hurt, lower than 250 ppi may start to be noticable.

CSS11506 - Some basic help needed

Alright, I have a CSS11506 in the lab and I am trying to configure it into a reverse proxy config. So I would like to have all inbound http requests hit the CSS and then have it redirect to our web server on correct DMZ. Having never setup a CSS before I need some help.
- Is my service type proxy-cache, type redirect or type transparent cache ?
I know this should be fairly easy to do with the 11506. Can you also provide some docs explaining the config walkthru.
Any help would be appreciated.
