Newest iMovie - how to move selected parts of clips from events to trash

Hello,
I have used to import clips to events and than trimmed them down with the function "reject selection" and than when I used "Move rejected clips to trash" or something like that, iMovie removed the selections from the clips and generated new clips ones. It was fast and very nice feature.
Now, with the new version I can't seem to find this functionality? Am I missing something?

Got the same problem. The menu item has disappeared in this botched-up job of an iMovie upgrade. When I tried to select rejected clips/segments and move them to the trash I was told to wait until iMovie has finished running tasks and that I'm to check the activity indicator. Problem is, there're no running tasks and no activity indicator!

You can "daisy chain" FireWire devices. Plug your IF into the Mbook, and plug your external disk into the IF (it has two ports...), or do it the other way around, whatever seems to work best.
The whole chain will be as fast as your slowest device, and I think the FPod is FW 400, so the disk will also operate at that speed. Many people work like this on their laptops, and it works fine. Better than USB.
Don't use USB for it. USB needs CPU and is in general less efficient in handling audio. Daisychaining FW-devices is the way to go.

I copied the iTunes file from the external drive and it's in both places. I thought all I would need is the iTunes program (which I downloaded to new computer) and my iTunes library file. There must be something else that's missing. My iTunes library looks the same on the new computer as it does when I open it on the external drive. If I click on an iTunes library song from my new computer, it will only play if I have the external drive plugged in.
My back-up drive is a mess. I have multiple copies of music, video, photo, and document files and I don't know how that happened. ={ Obviously, I don't know how to back up stuff properly and there are back-up files extending over a 6- to 8-year period. I think all I did was just drag and drop the main folders from the back-up drive to the same main folders on the C: drive. Also (and I'm kind of fuzzy on this) Windows used to automatically save music files in a folder within my document files (which makes no sense to me). As my Jewish friends would say, "Oy Vey!"

How to move selection based on word outline?

I am trying to write a script for adding TAGs as comment into word document. The idea is to add a tag for every heading and sub-heading present in document. The input word documents do not have 'word style' followed. I have following two questions.
1.) How can I extract number of headings based on outline? The document do not use word styles for adding headings or sub-headings. This makes it difficult to use 'outlineLevel' to be used. As if a heading is written in normal text then outlineLevel will
return '10' and script will miss this heading. I read on another forum that outlineNumber can be used but it does not seem to be working with paragraph object.
2.) How to move selection from one heading to next? Currently my script is not able to move selection.
Below is the script I manage to write. (I'm new to scripting and this is my first script)

You will need to get the selection range object and reference it as a range. If the outline is not really an outline then how would you use it? I think if you clarify your question it might lead you to seeing an answer.
If it is an outline you should be able to just walk the outline. Any outline element can have a text (10) section attached.
I would suggest that you start in the Word Developers forum and try to understand how this would be done in VBA or C# then translate it into PowerShell.
I would also recommend creating this as a callable macro or function in the word doc or a template. You can then just open and call the macro from PowerShell.

8.3.4 Renaming a Datafile in the Primary Database
When you rename one or more datafiles in the primary database, the change is not propagated to the standby database. Therefore, if you want to rename the same datafiles on the standby database, you must manually make the equivalent modifications on the standby database because the modifications are not performed automatically, even if the STANDBY_FILE_MANAGEMENT initialization parameter is set to AUTO.
The following steps describe how to rename a datafile in the primary database and manually propagate the changes to the standby database.
   1.
      To rename the datafile in the primary database, take the tablespace offline:
      SQL> ALTER TABLESPACE tbs_4 OFFLINE;
   2.
      Exit from the SQL prompt and issue an operating system command, such as the following UNIX mv command, to rename the datafile on the primary system:
      % mv /disk1/oracle/oradata/payroll/tbs_4.dbf
      /disk1/oracle/oradata/payroll/tbs_x.dbf

      Rename the datafile in the primary database and bring the tablespace back online:

      On the standby database, restart Redo Apply:

        2> DISCONNECT FROM SESSION;
If you do not rename the corresponding datafile at the standby system, and then try to refresh the standby database control file, the standby database will attempt to use the renamed datafile, but it will not find it. Consequently, you will see error messages similar to the following in the alert log:
ORA-00283: recovery session canceled due to errors
ORA-01157: cannot identify/lock datafile 4 - see DBWR trace file
ORA-01110: datafile 4: '/Disk1/oracle/oradata/payroll/tbs_x.dbf'Hope That Helps.

Just curious as to why it's coming up as a copyright violation?
Hard to say. I think FaceBook errs on the side of abundance caution when they detect anything that sounds like music.
It's also possible to that people use samples of various pieces of iLife audio contest to create a piece of work that they then copyright.

Dragging movie clip from Event pane to Project pane

When I drag a movie clip from Event to Project the top part of the clip is cut off. On body pictures I am losing people's heads! The movie clips play perfectly in the Event panel, so I know they were imported correctly.

There are two things to look at.
First, what is the aspect ratio of your project, and is it the same as your camera is shooting?
If your camera is standard (4:3), set your project to 4:3. If your camera is wide-screen (16:9), set your project to 16:9. You can do this in FILE/PROJECT PROPERTIES.
Second, if your project contains a mix of 16:9 and 4:3, that is OK. You just pick the aspect ratio that you prefer. Then on each clip, go into the Rotate, Crop, Ken Burns Tool and select FIT or CROP.
FIT will letterbox (black bars). CROP will cut off the top and bottom. You can decide which you prefer.

The Duration of Stills is set with Edit>Preferences to the number of Frames required, where ~ 30 Frames = 01 sec. of Duration.
Unfortunately, the Duration cannot be reset (Edit>Preferences) for material that has already been Imported. The procedure is to Delete those Imported Stills, and make the change, then re-Import them, and you will get the Duration that you have reset.
The only other option at this point is to manually Click-drag on the Head, or Tail of each Still in the Timeline, to adjust the Duration. I do this with the Info Panel open and visible to make it easier. Personally, unless I am well into the editing process, the Delete, change and re-Import option is my choice.

PS - the ability to alter the Duration en masse for Imported Stills in the Project Panel has just been added in PrPro CS5. I do not know if it has been added in PrE 9 though.

How do I select part of a song?

I am creating some voice overs using songs from iTunes as background, and am using the Podcast part of Garageband for that. When I drag the song into Garageband, I have the whole song showing as a track. If I only want to use part of it, how can I select that part I want to use? Once I do select it, what next? In my first attempts, I have used the cycling selection as one means of doing this, but it seems like there should be an easier way. Thanks.

Sorry, but I am brand new to Garageband, and am finding it very complex compared to other applications. When you say to drag the ends, I don't know where to find those. Do you mean in the track itself?
I am confused by what should be done in the track itself, versus the big section you get at the bottom when you double click on a track, versus the Podcast track, versus the bar at top if you use cycle or arrange.

How do I select multiple video clips in iMovie?

I want to select a lot of video clips from the Event Library in iMovie and move them into a Project for editing.
However as there are no up/down arrows on the scroll bar it is really difficult to highlight/select using the cmd button (as I then need to grab the scroll bar and move it down at the same time).
Is there an easy way to do this?
For instance, can I change the clips from visual to a list of file names that I could just then transfer to my project and then switch back to the visual view of each file/clip?

You can also select 'ranges' of clips as you describe using the Shift key. First select #1 clip, hold down Shift, then click on the #29 clip. This will get ALL the clips between #1 and #29 without clicking individual clips or selecting all and chippping away. Same goes for the second example. Click once on the #71 clip then hold down Shift, and click the #100 clip, and everything in between will also be selected. So there's two kinds of clicking:
1. Command/Click (for selecting or deselecting one at a time)
2. Shift/Click (for selecting ranges or deselecting ranges of clips all at one time)

Greetings. I'm a newby in FCPX. I've been watching Michael Wohl's tutorial and it looks like I should be able to mark parts of clips stored on my HD to import into the event browser. But I don't seem to be able to mark the clips with either the "i o " keys or dragging. Only the full length clip can be selected. Is this feature diabled in 10.0.7 or am I missing something? I also don't seem to have the film strip/list icons at the bottom of the Media Import window. thanks!
