Usually this error occurs when trying to downgrade the iOS or in a previously jailbroken phone.  In this case, you cannot get help here.  The internet and Google are your best friends.

Have you tired starting all over again forcing the iPad into recovery mode? Turn off your firewall and antivirus software and see of you can start the process all over again. Quit iTunes and restart the computer before you try again.
Here are the insturctions to manually force the iPad into recovery mode.

  • Phone stuck in Recovery Mode Iphone 4s.

Hey guys, recently my iphone 4s had some difficulties and it wasnt able to pick up my service provider.  The bar was just stuck on "Searching" but all other applications worked except messaging and calling.  It was not my provider's or SIM card's fault because I had it checked and it was all working and I was directed to an apple store.  At the store I was told to first update my phone to the newest IOS (July 2, 2013) and if that did not, I should try restoring my phone to factory settings.  When I attempted to update my IOS to 6.0.3 it gave me an error "Update has failed due to an unknown error" (-1) and it automatically put my phone into recovery mode.  So i plugged my phone into my Itunes (newest version) and it tells me my phone is stuck in recovery mode and I have to restore it.  I attempt to restore it and it gives me the same error "Restore has failed due to an unknown error" (-01) and now its stuck in recovery mode.  I cannot get it out of recovery mode and I don't even know if it would fix my Phone's inability to pick up a Service Provider.
    Any help would be appreciated,
    Thank You
    David

  • Phone stuck in recovery mode after Update

So, last month my phone got stuck in recovery mode while I was on vacation, saying I needed to insert a sim card. There was already a sim card in it, eventually it just stopped working & would not let me restore. I took it to Apple & they replaced it.
Just tonight it popped up telling me there was a new update, so I updated it. @ the very end, it said update failed.. blah blah recovery mode error 1013. Same error I got last time. I don't get it? Why does this keep happening to me? I purchased a new macbook pro back in August, could this have something to do with it?
    Thanks

    NOT HAPPY JAN!!!!
Both my daughter and I had the same problem on different computers. Hers is an iPhone 4 and mine, a 5. Both got caught in recovery mode. I did follow the above mention troubleshooting however to no avail. Took it into the Apple shop yesterday and they restored it back to the factory setting for 6.0.1. Lost all of my content on the phone.
The Genisus stated that is it a Windows problem.
Yes, I agree, that Apple has lowered their delivery and service. It is true, that Apple is the new Microsoft, that it is ok to have problems when upgrading and when it hangs, just reload.
AVOID THE UPGRADE AT ALL COSTS.

  • IPhone won't update to 6.1 and is stuck in recovery mode

I attempted to update my iPhone from 6.0.1 to 6.1 today; however, in doing so iTunes informed me that the update could not be verified. Upon receiving this message, I thought that my phone would just go back to how it was, but that wasn't the case. The iPhone 4s is now stuck in recovery mode. It just keeps shutting down and going back to the apple logo. In addition to this, I am unable to put the phone in DFU mode due to the fact that my power button randomly stopped working a few weeks ago. Any ideas on how to regain use of my iPhone? Any help is greatly appreciated.

I'm having the same problem, I tried to update to whatever the last version was as I hadn't got that 33mb update yet, during the process my phone froze. I tried to unfreeze my phone by giving it a hard reboot (holding the home and power button) but now my phone is stuck in recovery mode.
I tried various programs that provide a "recovery mode fix" none worked.
Manually downloaded the latest ipsw as I failed five times from 5AM to try and get iTunes to download the latest version and restore my phone.
When I try to restore to iOS 8 I get "this iPhone could not be restored (error 2003)" and it has been like this for 12 hours. 12 hours I've been without a phone and all I wanted to do was update my software? What a joke. I have no idea how I'm going to fix this as literally everything I have tried has failed.

  • Phone stuck in recovery mode with no backups

    HALP
I was trying to update my iphone to the newest version just yesterday (27/2/2015) and my phone is stuck in recovery mode.
I've yet to make any backups yet so I can't simply restore it to get it out of the recovery mode.
Is there any ways I can get outta of it without losing my data? Like can I drain out the battery or something?
I tried hard reset, tinyumbrella, Fonepaw, but it doesn't seems to do the job.
All it does is restart my phone and it gets back to the " connect to itunes" screen.
There wasn't any pop-up asking if I would like to backup my data too when I click on the restore button on itunes, thus i cancel it.

  • Update to 6.1.1 failed - stuck in recovery mode?

I am a Vodafone customer in the UK with an iPhone 4S.  I didn't actually see the warning from Vodafone saying not to update to 6.1.0 and so went ahead and did it.  I had no problems whatsoever, was working perfectly fine.  I then saw the release of 6.1.1 and the advice from Vodafone to do it.  I went ahead and did it Over The Air but it didn't complete.  I got the message on my phone saying to plug into iTunes.  iTunes said my phone was in recovery mode and I had to restore.  Tried to do it but got unknown error 36 and the restore failed.  Went through all the suggestions on the support website - tried different computers (Windows and Mac OS), different USB cables, different network etc.  Contacted support in the UK and they called back.  Went through the whole thing again, tried the holding home and reset trick etc.  Still not luck.  In the end they put me through to support in the US who said they have the engineers looking at it.
Has anyone else had this issue?  Error 36 can be a hardware error and I'm worried they will say there is a problem with my device and make me pay for servicing (out of warranty).  There was absolutely nothing wrong with it, it was definitely the upgrade to 6.1.1 that did it.  Without sounding selfish, I'm hoping it is a widespread issue so that they admit liability and fix/replace without cost or release 6.1.2.

    Hi All
Good news of sorts. Took my phone to a local repairer and they have seen a growing number of iPhones phones doing the same thing with the latest "update" to 6.1.1. They have no idea what is the cause nor the actual solution but have found by progressing a phone down a number of computer and different cables and doing a DFU (think that is the term) eventually one combination of computer and cable works, if you are lucky. The best cable they have found is a cheap non-genuine one with a particular computer been "luckier" than most. If this does not work then you have to send back to the people you brought the phone from (Telstra in Australia my case and I wish anyone luck dealing with them) and either claim warranty (be almost certain to be told you either dropped it or soaked it) or if you want to see a phone in your lifetime shell out $270 for a reconditioned replacement.
Because I used iTunes and accepted the backup before "upgrade/brick" option my iPhone is currently restoring my applications and data. Looks promising. Total cost for this "random" repair was $47 from the local company. Oh, and yes the "upgrade" blew 1GB of my data allowance which in Australia is mega expensive if you overrun your limit ($2,500 penalty charges or maybe $250 depending what mood Telstra are in).
Dear Mr/Ms/Mrs/Master/Madam Apple you have seriously affected and annoyed a customer.
So if you are having no joy try a repairer that has a few computers and cables and if you are lucky then they might be able to "unbrick" your iPhone by doing a DFU but do mention to them they might need to try a few computers and cables before getting lucky.
Hope you are as "lucky" as I was.

  • Tried updating to iOS 7 and now stuck in Recovery Mode!

    Hi All!
This morning I went to update my iphone 4S to iOS 7 and stopped it while it was verifying the update by turning off the phone and then back on (just changed my mind to updated at that time). When I finally went back to do the update it started up with the verifying update message and pretty quickly it went into recovery mode saying to connect iTunes. iTunes says it will erase my data and do the update and then re-install some of my previous data but the question is... Will it re-install all my data even if I haven't recently backed up my iphone?
If it won't restore everything then how do I get out of this recovery mode?? I tried by pressing the home and power button until the apple logo came on but it went straight back to recovery mode!
    Please help! Freaking out!

I may have fixed the issue. The errors in device manager were a driver error apparently windows didnt have appropriate drivers installed to allow itunes to recognize a device in recovery mode. I followed the paths in the guide above in more detail using this path ( http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1538 under if device not recognized while in recovery mode) to alleviate the issue update is now installing appropriately ( i hope).
I will update if everything works correctly

  • Phone Stuck In Recovery Mode

Like the idiot I am, I decided to upgrade the software of my iPhone to the 4.0 version. I first had to download the most recent version of iTunes...no problem there.
When I tried to download the new iPhone software everything froze up. It went through "Extracting Software" then "Verifying iPhone Restore With Apple" then "Preparing iPhone For Restore" and a bunch of other little screens. When it got to "Restoring iPhone Software" it froze...status bar on the computer got almost all the way to the end and the status bar on the iPhone got about 1/3 of the way across.
It stayed like that for about 10 hours. I unplugged the phone from the computer, shut it down, and when I turned it back on it has a photo of a USB and an arrow pointing to an iTunes thumbnail.
I plugged the phone back into iTunes and I got a message saying the phone is in "Recovery Mode" and it instructs me to do a "Restore." When I click the "Restore" button it goes through all the same stuff, with the same result...freezes up at the same place as it did before.
I've tried this about 8 times now with the same result. My iPhone is now unusable. Were I in the U.S. I would take it to the store and demand a refund (it's only about 5 days old). However, I'm in Afghanistan and so I can't do much about it.
Can anyone help me out? Is there any way I can get my phone working again...would be nice to be able to talk to my family again.
    Thanks!

Ok so I fixed the problem. After receiving error 14 I went into the directory where the update is stored (Apple folder on my pc) and deleted the software update file. Then I emptied my recycle bin. Launched iTunes and redownloaded the update again. When my phone attempted to restore itself it hung up 1/4 of the way thru and sat that way overnight. When I unplugged the phone this morning I got error 14 again.
This is what I did to fix it this morning:
    1) went back into the directory and deleted the software update file
    2) deleted my recycle bin
    3) rebooted my computer
    4) launched iTunes again with my phone plugged in (I did move it to another USB port but I'm not sure that had anything to do with it working this time since I had used that same cord and port when updating my iPad last night and had no problems with it working)
    5) iTunes prompted me that my phone was in recovery mode and needed to restore. I selected "update and restore" and it went thru the process with no problems.
I hope this help others that have a similar problem as this is very frustrating to me. Good Luck!

  • Phone stuck in recovery mode- Itunes not recognizing phone so cant' restore

Please help. Im snowed in with no phone. I accidentally tried to update my 3gs to the latest software before updating my itunes. Now it is stuck in "recovery mode" showing the itunes logo and cord icon.
So I successfully updated itunes but it does not recognize my phone. I have tried restarting the computer, hard starting my phone, changed usb ports. When i plug the phone into the usb, my computer recognizes it and launches the "new hardware wizard". I tried having windows find the software but it never finds anything.
im not sure what else to do. I cant even get apple to help because i don't have a phone.

If all else fails, try the steps I listed in my post below:
