Newest iTunes freezing constantly on startup...

Everytime I open iTunes it freezes instantly and beachballs and stops responding. Anyone know what this could be?
Thanks

My husband is encountering the exact same problem after upgrading to iTunes 10.7 on the latest version of Mountain Lion. All he gets is the spinning wheel of death. The only way to stop it is to right click on the iTunes icon in the dock.
It has rendered iTunes totally unusable. Need answers please

  • ITunes Freezes Seconds after Startup

    Hi,
It seems like after I installed the newest version of iTunes, it freezes seconds after startup, I literally can't do anything with it, I've even tried restarting it, and it still does nothing.
Anyone have any ideas as to how to fix it, would love to be able to add and remove podcasts/music.
    Thanks

Hello & Welcome to Apple Discussions,

  • Itunes freezing constantly

Itunes freezes anytime I try to search, load songs...pretty much anything. It cant scroll, seach or move songs without freezing up. Can Itunes really have become worse with every iteration?

  • The newest iTunes freezes my iMac

Has anyone experienced freezing with the newest version of iTunes? It occurs when I am purchasing songs or when I am playing them. My entire screen freezes and I can't even move my mouse, so I have to press the power button and reboot.

My version of iTunes (8.0.2) freezes when I connect my iPhone.

  • ITunes Freezing Up On Startup

    Hey
When I try to open itunes it pops up and it won't let me click on anything. It just freezes up. If I try to minimize it I will not be able to bring it back up. Also if I have another window up in front of it and I minimize the new window not all of it leaves. There is still part of that window covering up the whole entire itunes window.
    HELP

I have the same problem. iTunes completely freezes, and I have not been able to use the program at all since upgrading to iTunes 9. Does not matter if I am connected to the internet, or if my iPOD is connected or not, the iTUNES program launches but is completely frozen. I have to control/alt/delete to kill the program. Nothing works for me - uninstalled/reinstalled, defraged my machine, checked for viruses, used the repair utilities, deleted all my temp files, etc. I need help because I am dead in the water with this product!

  • ITunes freezes on startup every time - reboot always needed.

    Hi all,
I'm on Snow Leopard, fully up-to-date, and the version of iTunes I have crashes on startup every single time, and the only way I can recover my system is to reboot my MacBook.
    The process is:
    1. Start iTunes from dock.
    2. iTunes opens
    3. "Analyzing Song Volume" appears in the top-center iTunes dialog box.
    4. iTunes freezes
    5. Reboot.
I've tried deleting the track it's analyzing and it made no difference - it seems to think the track still exists as the same track name pops up in the dialog box every time before it freezes.
iTunes is thus completely unusable on my system, which means my iPhone's gone far too long without a backup, any help would be hugely appreciated, thanks!

    try this:
quit iTunes. move the following file to the desktop: <MacintoshHD>/users/<yourname>/library/preferences/com.apple.iTunes.plist
fire up iTunes (which will create a new .plist file). if it works now you can trash the plist file you moved to the desktop.

  • Can't access the music on my iPod, iTunes freezes up

Hello out there, I have a problem with my fifth generation 30 GB iPod video. It has worked like a dream until yesterday. I plugged my iPod into my computer (HP laptop running Windows Vista) and it showed up in iTunes as usual. I dragged three albums onto my iPod and it did the usual routine of updating. When it was done I clicked the eject symbol in the iTunes menu and waited for the battery to show on the iPod screen before disconnecting. I turned on the iPod to listen to these new tunes and now my iPod appears to be blank. Under artists, albums, songs, etc there are no longer any options.
Okay, I have the day off from work so I figure I'll just sync it back up and put all 30 gigs back on. I plug the iPod in, iTunes opens automatically, and then freezes. After unplugging the iPod itunes resumes working. I try this several more times, restart the computer, restart the iPod, etc and it keeps doing the same thing.
Frustrated (as this happened once before with a much older iPod several years ago) I headed over to these forums. From looking around I saw the five R's that are always suggested. After reseting, retrying, and restarting, the problem still persists: I can't access the music on my ipod, and itunes freezes.
I then updated to the newest version of itunes. This also did nothing to solve the problem. I want to attempt to restore my ipod, unfortunately this is not possible because I can't access the iPod options through itunes because it freezes as soon as the ipod is attached to the computer.
After reading several threads on these support forums I stumbled on this one: (http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1480926&tstart=0) in which a user recommends downloading an alternative iPod manager. I followed the link in that thread and settled on a program called poddox, hoping I could just throw all my music back onto my iPod with it. So I again plugged in my ipod, waited for itunes to freeze, closed it as it was not responding, and opened podox. Podox reported that all of my music is still on the iPod (it says there is less than 200 megs of space available).
Unfortunately poddox won't work for me either. Upon attempting to use it to remove all the data on my ipod my computer crashed and restarted. This is strange because although itunes freezes when the ipod is plugged in, it still appears as a removable disk in windows.
I returned to the apple website and downloaded and older, seperate ipod updater software from 2006. I installed the software and it restarted my computer. When I ran the ipod updater I received a message informing me that this software was no longer supported and that if i wanted to update my ipod's software or restore it I should just do it through itunes v.7 or later. The program then quits, and I have no choice.
I'm about ready to pull my hair out here. What can I do? It seems like a real catch 22 in that I need to restore my ipod for itunes to recognize it but i can't restore it because itunes doesn't recognize it. From what I gather there is no way to restore it without using itunes, is this accurate? What can I do to either delete all the data on my pod and reload it, or make it appear again in my ipod's menu/interface? Any help you guys can give is greatly appreciated, I will be monitoring the responses to this thread in case anyone should need more information from me. Thanks again.

right, figured it out. had to put it in disk mode, then reconnect, then it was recognized, then i restored and put everything back onto it. hope this helps anyone else who has a similar problem

  • Newest iTunes problems

To keep it really simple for you guys, my iTunes freezes when I try to open the newest version. I've let the program sit and waited to see if anything happens but nothing does. So I finally got fed up with that and I installed the oldest version I have which is 6.0.4 or something like that on the cd that came with my iPod. I installed the program and everything seemed to work it loaded, played music and conected with my iPod but when I try to update my iPod I get an error saying " Unknown (-69) " and it stops copying my music. In the end I have only been able to get about 79 songs onto my 30 GIG iPod!
This has been a problem for me for the past three weeks. If you would kindly help that would be very much appreciated so I don't have to go out and purchase a different kind of mp3 player.
    Thanks for your cooperation.

Both of those problems taken together are suggesting a problem with a corrupt content file in your iTunes library. With the 6.0..4.2, it's just causing the sync issue. With the later versions it's causing a hang during the "library update" phase after you've installed the new version.
Try applying the techniques from the following document:
iTunes displays a -69 error when syncing iPod
If you get the -69, fixed, try another 7.4.x install. Does the library update go through without the hang this time?

  • Itunes freezing when Ipod Classic plugged in

When I plug in my ipod classic 80 gb,itunes freezes (cannot click or play anything) and an error message shows up.
"There is a problem with this drive. Scan the dvice now to fix". Tried that and it doesn't work. It also says my ipod is not responding.
The newest version of itunes is installed and our computer is windows 8.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I have looked at lots of other discussions but nothing has helped my problem.
    Thanks!

I have the same problem: if I load iTunes for a second time and my iPod is plugged in the iTunes app and the system menus (top right corner of screen) freeze up.
Unplugging and plugging in the iPod seems un-freeze everything for me.

  • ITunes Freezes my Mac Mini - Power Cycle Required

    Hi,
If I leave my Mac unattended for long periods of time with iTunes open (whether playing music (it helps negate my tinitus) or not), my machine becomes completely frozen and needs to be powered down. If I leave it without iTunes open, it does not freeze.
So I'm depserately looking for a solution. I've tried repairing the permissions, re-installing iTunes, removing screensavers and changing my power settings but nothing seems to have made a difference. There are no logs reporting problems either.
Does anybody have any idea what I can do to remedy this? There are no other problems with my computer (none that I am aware of).
Most of my music is on an external USB drive (MP3 brought over from Windows) and the rest is on my main personal folder. I have about 20Gb free on my main system drive.
    Thanks in advance

I think the newest iTunes is a bit buggy. I have those complete system freezes if I start some movies one after another for testing purposes. All goes well unti film 3 or 4 and then the whole MBP stalls. Only help - reboot.
Another thing: every movie or TV show stalls after a certain time for some moments and jumps forward some seconds. After that stall, all runs OK, only some seconds later a short stuttering is noticeable.
I have a very large audio library on a external drive as primary drive. I leave the movies on another external drive w(o copying to the primary drive. So I just think, iTunes is stretched to its limit and has memory problems. The iPod classic 160 had those in the first weeks after its appearance, too. Lots of people with large libraries exchanged their iPods w/o effect. I was patient and now at least that works fine.

  • ITunes freezes downloading app updates

I'm running 10.5 (141) on my iMac running Lion and am running into a problem where iTunes will constantly freeze when I download my app updates.  If I download updates individually, there doesn't seem to be a problem and if I turn off simultaneous downloads, the probelm will be less frequent but it always seems to happen if I have a bunch of apps to download.  The scenario is this, I will click on "Download All Free Updates" and it will start downloading away.  Things will be fine for a while but after a few minutes of downloading, I'll notice that suddenly the progress bars stop moving and the estimated times start going up.  At this point, iTunes is effectively hung.  I can sometimes press a few buttons like "pause all" and this will pause all the non-active downloads but not the ones in progress.  Even though I can get to the Finder, I cannot quit iTunes, force quit iTunes or restart my system.  If I try to force quit iTunes from the dock, that will usuually cause the dock to freeze.  Each time this happens, my only recourse is a hard reboot.  I've tried having Activitiy Monitor running and a Termimal window open at the same time but when this happen, both of those apps hang at the same time so I'm not able to type any commands or quit any processes.
This is any annoying problem because each time I do a hard reboot, I risk corrupting my iTunes library.  I've had similar problems with iTunes in the past freezing but those were random.  This always happens during app downloads.  I had hoped that this kind of thing would stop once iTunes was a true Cocoa application but it still seems to bring the whole system down whenever it has a major problem.  My guess is that it's crashing some network process and that in turn in hanging the whole system.
Luckily, I don't actually need to update the apps on my computer and can do it directly from my iDevices but it's frustrating that this problem exists.  Any ideas?

I can't believe that no one answered Eric D's querry!  It has been over a year!  Come on Apple iPad users, help us out.
I have a similar problem that arrose recently.  I have had my iPad for a couple of years, no problem.  But recently, I notied that I had a number of apps that had free upgrades so I began to download them.  ArtRage is one of my important apps as I use it on my iPad andI have ArtRage Pro on my iMac.  However, when I attempted to download the latest upgrade, ArtRage froze.  The app is greyed out on the iPad and it can't be used and I can't download the upgrade either.  When I try to upgrade, it goes to "waiting ..." then, I receive an error window, "Unable to Download Application."  ArtRage" could not be downloaded at this time: with a "Done" and "Retry" button.  If I hit the Retry button, eventually the same error window reappears.  This is a Catch 22!  Moreover, the ArtRage App is frozen so I can't even use the previous version.
I checked with ArtRage help and they say this is an Apple problem (or a Appstore problem).  I now have my SketchBook Pro app frozen like this also.  These are two of my most importat and most used apps.  I need help.
Just to make things clear, I was able to download Dragon a few minutes ago.  So this problem does not effect all the apps I need to download.

  • ITunes freezes and doesn't recognise iPhone

Hi, I've got an issue with my iPhone 3G running on iOS 4.0.1. Everytime I connect it to my PC (running on Windows 7 32-bit), iTunes freezes for a few minutes and doesn't recognise the device. I've been searching for the solution for a couple of days now and have found the following thread:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1141495&start=75&tstart=0
Fix provided by BeeBopp work for me but only until I reboot my PC. Then I have the same situation - having iPhone connected to PC, iTunes freezes and doesn't recognise the device - so I need to go to Device Manager and update the drivers manually even though they seem to have been installed correctly (I have Apple Mobile Device on my list before I update the drivers), but I need to point Windows to use the drivers from
    C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\Drivers\usbaapl.inf
    I have already tried:
-completely removing iTunes and its configuration files
-reinstalling iTunes (the newest available version)
-removing iPhone from the devices list and reinstalling Apple drivers
Nothing works - everytime I reboot PC, I need to update drivers manually.
Do you have any idea what's causing that? Thanks

  • ITunes freezing with error -50, -3259 and 9006

Okay, so I have had a problem with iTunes freezing in relation to downloading Podcasts since around version 8.  After updating to 10.2.2 on 10.6.7, iTunes has turned into one big fail.  Downloading anything produces any of the following error codes: -50. 3259 and 9006 after about 30 seconds.  After any error code is displayed, a few seconds later iTunes freezes with the pinwheel of death and no matter how long I leave it, I end up having to restart using my computer's power button.  After 2-3 restarts like this, the iTunes library is corrupted and the app freezes while loading the library.  During this library freeze, the drive where my iTunes library is stored is ejected.  This happens on both internal and external drives.
Here is what I have done thus far:
    Uninstalled iTunes completely.
Created a new user account and installed iTunes 10.2.2 to that account.
    Added various media.
I have absolutely NO problems with iTunes until I download a podcast or something from iTunes U.  Then, the issues occur and I cannot seem to get rid of them until I unistall completely and reinstall to a new user account.
I would like to be able to use iTunes WITH podcasts and iTunes U on my main user account without the freezing.  Any suggestions?

I seem to have fixed my own problem.  I just thought I'd post my solution since I read posts from many, many people having similar issues.  So hopefully, this helps someone!
I found a file in /Library/Preferences called com.apple.pcast_integration.plist; the file text included QuickTimePro and Podcast Producer Export in its strings.  Deleting the file solved my problem.  I went from my main user account freezing constantly and throwing up errors to working 100% smoothly with just deleting that one file.  I cannot believe this simple action solved a problem I've been having for so long!
I do not understand how this file is being referred to in downloading podcasts.  I have tried everything, even loading and playing all types of media from old libraries I thought were corrupt, but cannot seem to make iTunes or Quicktime recreate the file...nor can I find anyone else having trouble due to this file.  Could it be a remnant from an old installation, or something that somehow deployed along with a podcast?  If anyone can tell me more about com.apple.pcast_integration.plist, I would appreciate it.  And let me know if removing it helps you!

  • Itunes freezes when I connect my ipod....possible corrupt file?

I reinstalled itunes to the latest version.
And I'm still having the same problem: My itunes freezes whenever I connect my ipod. And when i disconnect it, it unfreezes and it shows "My Ipod" in itunes for like a second then goes away.
Now, when I reinstalled again, i noticed a message saying that Windows is missing components required to fully install Itunes (itunes installed anyway) or something like that. Now, i connected it to my parents' pc and it works fine.
Is there something wrong with my pc? Is there a different program where i can transfer my music to my ipod? (I am using Windows XP btw)
Also is there a way to move all the songs on my ipod to an external hard drive?

    Similar problem here:
When I'm playing songs with iTunes and connecting my 3G 20GB iPod, my computer will hang up completely - screen goes dark and I have to reset my PC.
However, when my iTunes is "idle", i.e. not playing a song or doing anything else, connecting and syncing the iPod will work just fine.
I'm using the newest (6.x) Version of iTunes on WinXP SP2 with a 3G iPod 20GB.
