Newest iTunes is overriding System Preference setting for appearance!

I have my appearances set to graphite (as opposed to blue). That is, my scroll bars, check boxes, apple logos etc. are all showing up in graphite and not blue. Unfortunately, after downloading and installing the newest update to iTunes, whenever that program is open, the appearances switch to blue. How to I get this override to stop??
Thanks for your help...

Modifying the user template is not supported. You can Google for people who have done it in the past. I would recommend going to official route, if possible. Here are a couple of training documents. I'm sure there is more available though more official channels.

Good advice from Linc Davis that should sort out your query i think...
However you dont want to set your MBP to never go to sleep...
    Adjust reasonable sleep settings...
And the download an APP called caffiene...
When you click it you can have your MBP never go to sleep with a single click of your menu bar... and with another click it can go to sleep normally to maintain the laptop...
Simply click the cup... To toggle never sleep/sleep

  • Updating and iPod that has preferences set for "manually manage songs..."

I have my iPod set with "manually manage songs and playlists" so that
    (a) it won't try to update every time I connect it; and
    (b) so that I can see all of the songs from my iTunes application, as I don't store my music library on my laptop computer.
But sometimes I do want to do a full sync of the iPod to my music library. I'm not sure how to do that. If I select "update ipod", it says "iPod update complete", but doesn't really do anything.
    Any ideas?
    thanks

Hi, Michael, and thanks for your help.
I realize I can change the options to "automatically update..."
But the whole point of my inquiry was to find out whether there's a way to NOT have that preference set, as I
    (a) don't want the iPod updating every time I plug it in; and
    (b) want to be able to see its songs on other computers when I'm not seeking to update it.
What I want is a command that I can initiate that will say "act as though the automatically-update preferences were on and do a full update just this once".
I suppose I can go in and turn the preference on, do the update, then turn the update off, but it seems like lots of steps. I might have thought that there would be a control+click command that would accomplish this all in one click.

  • System preferences sets?

    Hi,
Back in the day, with OS 9, I could specify a set of preference settings.
What I'd like to do is have some simple and easy way to enable a number of system preferences settings at once, for different applications. For example, when I'm burning video I'd like to shut off the energy saver functions and disable the screen saver. I suppose I could set up a new user account with those parameters but I'd like to do this without having to change the user all the time. Couldn't find any software out there that does this. If anyone knows of such a program please let me know. Thanks.

  • Is it possible to save System preference settings for every user that logins to a Mac OS X?

I work at a school and we have iMacs running Mavericks 10.9 in our environment.  We have them binded to our Windows domain so that way students can use their own login to access the Macs.  I have a number of System preference settings that I would like to take a effect, but I only see that these settings take effect for every user.  So even if I login as the Main administrator account and set settings in System Preferences, such as not allowing the Wifi symbol to show, the next user that logins will still see the wifi symbol because the setting isn't taking effect for their System preferences.  Does anyone know a way to get System Preference settings to take affect for every user that logins? Maybe a script?

  • Creating System Preference "Sets" or "Locations"?

I recently began frequenting coffee shops to utilize their free WiFi access away from the distractions of home. When I am there I generally change a few system preferences from my usual norm like changing the default AirPort network, adding the requirement to use my password to turn off the screen saver, change my desktop or screen saver images, etc.
Is there any way under 10.3.9 to save different sets of preferences for my User Account (like "Home", "Office", "Coffee Shop") and apply them with a single "click" or menu selection of some kind?
I realize I could do this with separate User Accounts but that is problematic for accessing files, saving application preferences, etc. and is a pretty rough and clumsy workaround. I'm looking for something more elegant and targeted.

    Scott,
Network "Locations" should help you achieve some of your objectives.
    1. Choose Apple menu > System Preferences, and click Network.
    2. Choose New Location from the Location pop-up menu.
    3. Enter settings for each configuration you want to use in that location.

  • Systeme Preference Corruption for All Users!

In one of my user account, I can't get the scroll bars to show!!!
I want in preference-general and select ''Always'' under Show Scroll Bars, but I can't see them in Safari, Mail...
When I close Preference, my ''Always'' selection is gone and it return to '' Automatically based on input device''
Also, issue with Screen Saver. I can select any Apple default screen saver. My iMac always play my iPhoto Library.
I'm suspecting Systeme Preference Corruption in all my users.
In previous post, Frank recommended to boot from recovery disk, go to terminal, rset paasword window and slect ''Reset Home Folder Permissions and ACLs''
This is what I did, exept, it was running after 24 hrs of waiting and I decide to quit. It did the same with all users...
Do you have a solution to this issue?
NOTE: Lions was reinstalled and HD erase. Repair Disk Permission done, Safe boot done.
    What do I got left?

Repairing the permissions of a home folder in Lion is a complicated procedure. I don’t know of a simpler one that always works.
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the page that opens.
Drag or copy – do not type – the following line into the Terminal window, then press return:
    chmod -R -N ~
The command will take a noticeable amount of time to run. When a new line ending in a dollar sign ($) appears below what you entered, it’s done. You may see a few error messages about an “invalid argument” while the command is running. You can ignore those. If you get an error message with the words “Permission denied,” enter this:
    sudo !!
You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning not to screw up.
Next, boot from your recovery partition by holding down the key combination command-R at startup. Release the keys when you see a gray screen with a spinning dial.
When the recovery desktop appears, select Utilities ▹ Terminal from the menu bar.
In the Terminal window, enter “resetpassword” (without the quotes) and press return. A Reset Password window opens.
Select your boot volume if not already selected.
Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if not already selected.
Under Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs, click the Reset button.
Select  ▹ Restart from the menu bar.

  • SYSTEM PREFERENCES: numerous prefPanes appear broken

I have just upgraded to Mavericks 10.9.1
I appear to be having a similar issue to the user who gave up in this thread:
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/23979507#23979507
The issues I've had with prefpanes are:
    1. In the Internet accounts pane, changes to iCloud do not stick. For example, if I check the "keychain" radio button to add to iCloud it will check for a moment and then become unchecked.
the "Manage" button does not work. it clicks but nothing happens.
the "Options" button next to the documents item does not work, it clicks but nothing happens.
Additionally I am unable to add any account. when I select an account type from the list, it highlights briefly then nothing more happens.
The "Advanced" button does not work. It clicks but nothing happens.
The Details button next to my icloud account does not work. it clicks but nothing happens.
2.The ICloud pane has the same problems. changes do not stick. the "account details" and "sign out" buttons are clickable but do nothing. the "manage button" does nothing.
    3. The "Advanced" button on settings panels where it appears is clickable but does not launch the advanced settings window.
    4. The Network pane lets me delete services but the + button to add a new servce does nothing other than make the system preferences window flash. The revert button works, the Advanced button does not (like with all panes). The drop down list of functions from the preferences gear button appears, but selecting items in the list does nothing. I am able to connect and disconnect from existing network services but not add new ones although Network Setup Assistant launches from the "Assist me..." button so I may be able to add a new service from there.
    5. Printers and Scanners lets me add but not delete devices. Open print queue works. Options and Supplies does not.
    6. Users and Groups: I'm able to unlock the pane but cannot add or remove users. I am unable to change the Apple ID for my account. The contacts card button does not open. I can check and un check items in the login items and delete login items but it will not let me add new login in items to the list. FWIW I am able to add items to the list in Mac Pilot 6.
Troulbe shooting steps taken so far:
I've attempted to delete the .plist file for Internet Accounts and restart. this caused the online backup to activate and restore all the accounts, but the problems remain.
    I've repaired permissions.
I've verified the SMART status of the hard drive
I am logged in as an administrator with full privileges.
I tried resetting Global preferences and it did not work.
Safe boot does not fix the problem.
I am unable to create a new account to see if it works as it did with the other user because I don't know how to do that other than by using the Users pref pane which is broken.
Any advice or assistance would be much appreciated.

Did some more digging and this thread resolves the issue: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5484035?start=0&tstart=0
My google-fu failed to turn this one up, so hopefully a few more links will help the knowledge spread about abit
The short version is this is a problem apparently caused by the UserInterface getting confused when drop shadows are turned off. There are a set of terminal commands starting on Page 6 of that thread that seem to fix the problem. they did for me.

  • System message setting for delivery.

    Hi All,
I need to set message VL 261 Free goods group not complete  as error message. I tried to do this setting at LE> shipping> system modification-->specify characteristic for system message.
But when i am enter error message number 261 it is giving error " enter valid value". But when I am creating delivery I can see that message in log as information. can any one help on this.
    Thanks in advance.
    Regards
    Chetan

    Hi Chetan,
for my understanding you can not switch "VL 261 Free goods group not complete as error message". If you look at the SAP customizing help you will see following information:
"The maximum possible message category is predefined by SAP. For this reason some error messages only have a limited selection of message catogories that can be set. Use F4 Help to find the maximum possible message category from the sequence 'E', 'W', 'I', ' '."
That means the message types predefined in customizing can be switched from error to warning and vice versa. BUT error messages not included can not be added or switched by customizing.

  • Why are the system preferences set to disallow downloading Internet content/applications?

I just purchased a refurbished iMac from the Apple Store.  I am attempting to install Apache OpenOffice for Mac, but a message appears that says, "open office cannot be opened because it is from an undentified developer.   Your security preferences allow installation of only apps from the Mac App Store and identified developers."  How and/or where do I change this setting?

I very strongly advise against disabling Gatekeeper. Doing so increases the risk that your computer will be infected with malware.
Leave the Gatekeeper setting on Mac App Store and identified developers.
If you need to install other software, see the heading "How to open an app from a unidentified developer" on this support page. The instructions apply to installer packages as well as applications.

  • System wide setting for View Options

I like to view documents/folders in Name order, this is simple to do via the View Options menu and select Name for the particular folder you are viewing at the time, there must be a way to set this parameter for the whole system, but i can't find it ...... anyone ??

    John,
Open up a finder windows and 'right' click, selecting 'Show View Options'. You can change all your defaults which should change subsequent folder options. Just change arrange by to what you want and click 'Use as Default' on the bottom.

  • IDVD Preference setting for NTSC/PAL

I now understand that DVD's encoded to NTSC will almost certainly playback in UK on modern DVD Players.
    My question is this (iLife'06):
If I have an iMovie encoded as NTSC, what will changing the setting in iDVD Preferences from NTSC to PAL actually do?
    Will it ..
    i. Re-encode from 29 frames/480 lines to 25 frames/526 lines before encoding to the MPEG2 format?
    ii. Ignore the setting
iii. Make a complete mess of the MPEG2 data?
    iV. Other
    Thank you!

    i. Re-encode from 29 frames/480 lines to 25 frames/526 lines before encoding to the MPEG2 format?
Yes, but it does it by simply dropping a frame here and there so the output looks jerky. You get better quality conversion with 3rd party tools like JES Deinterlacer. And usually there is no point in converting NTSC to PAL because all PAL DVD players and almost all PAL TVs can display NTSC.
