I have been recording for a few years on PC computers. I have been using a program called SONAR 6.2. I understand and am very comfortable with it. I have never owned a MAC. I bought one today on the recommendation of 90% of the music industry. I am so overwhelmed at the moment, I could scream.
I use a Yamaha MOTIF ES 8 for my main keyboard/synth. I don't use any additional soft synths, because I don't feel I need them. I am using a MOTU 896HD audio interface that I have loaded the MAC drivers for. I have installed my Yamaha USB interface for midi. But I must say that I do not have a CLUE as to how to get started in Logic. AAAAAHHHH HELLLLPPPP.
Is there a good "Getting Started With LOGIC" videos or tutorials available?

Well, in 4 days I have made some fairly good progress. I am starting to learn my way around a bit. I am not quite sure yet about the "instrument" files as opposed to just midi or audio.
I am using a Yamaha MOTIF ES 8 keyboard/synth with LOGIC. I am struggling to find out how to use the ES8 rather than the generic general midi that logic defaults to. I have read some other threads on the Yamaha motif web site.
My ultimate 1st goal is to be able to record midi from the motif and have it convert to audio and be able to add audio tracks be they either vocal or instrument.
I have a long long way to go, but I'm glad there are forums to go to for help.

New to mac, iphoto and totally lost

Just got two macs, one ibook and one imac.
transition from windows is not as easy as I thought. We have different users in the imac. Imported some pics in my user and some in my wife's. Set to share, but the pictures do not show in the source folder. Try everything: totally lost. When I go to the user's folder, there is a little -, and tells me i have no privilege to open the folder. How do we share the pics? is there an easy way?

You can also share a library on the same machine between users the same way.

-both users must have sharing enabled in their iPhoto Preferences
-both users must be logged in and have iPhoto running
-Remember that you can only view the other library. You can't edit the photos or play the saved slideshows or view the made books or burn them to CD or DVD. The books and slideshows will show up as an album. You can play that album as an "on the fly" slideshow. You can drag images from the sharing library to your library in the source column to import them to your library. You can then edit, add to albums, books, slideshow, etc.

You can try one of these three methods:
1- Use iPhoto Library Manager-the paid version
The documentation page will give instructions on how it is done.
2- Sharing one iPhoto library between several users on one machine
3- Share an iPhoto Library in tiger Using ACL's
4- I have also read about ShareAlike
There is no other info on the site about how it works.
I strongly urge anyone wanting to try any of the methods for sharing one iPhoto Library folder among more than one user to backup all iPhoto Library folders before attemptin anything.

Totally lost about N95 GPS. Help!

Hi. I just recently bought a N95 and I know nuts about the GPS thing. When I open maps, I see this picture of a globe with a small icon of a satellite with a cross on it (I presume I am not connected to it). When i view satellite info, I am able to pick something up.
When I rotate the globe and then press the GPS pos button, it focuses on Europe which Im not at (not zoom in).
Btw, Im from Singapore and im using Starhub network.
Can anyone help me? Im totally lost.

Firstly if you are using v12.0.013 or later software on your N95 it is a lot quicker to obtain fix with A-GPS feature, although an active connection via WLAN or Network is needed.
Go outside away from buildings and tress with clear view of sky. Open slider and hold phone at 45degrees, don't cover "#" key as GPS antenna beneath it. Low cloud or rain will make satellite acquisition a lot longer.
If you go to Menu > Tools > GPS data > (searching for + calculating data) > Position > Options > Satellite status
This shows any number of satellites up to five - empty rectangle = not locked on - black filled rectangle = signal acquired; you need a minimum of 3 solid bars for lock-on and triangulation to work.
Once satellites are locked on you should be able to zoom into your position provided that active connection has been set to "as needed" rather than "never" in options > settings in Maps application, to allow download of sufficient map detail.

I am so totally lost right now. I have been trying for two days to get my cd burner to work and can't. I am trying to make a cd for my husband who is in honduaras. I am sending a box there tomorrow but have had no luck with the cd. I'm not up to date with all the new hardware and software out now lol. Is there any other way to get music off my computer? Its old a Mac OS X 10.3.9. What do I need? MP3 player or an ipod? How do they work? Please help! This is so important,i'm almost ready just to pack my computer up and send it. I am a complete idiot about this so if you can help,please explain it to me in terms I can understand lol.

Open the System Profiler (Applications/Utilities)
Select: Disc Burning under Contents on the left.
If your Mac can burn to CD's you should see: CD-Write -R -RW
Its old a Mac OS X 10.3.9.
In order to transfer music to an iPod you would need to upgrade to Leopard v10.5 since that is the minimum requirement for iTunes which you need to copy the music from the computer to the iPod.

If your Mac is a G3 you could install an older version of iTunes but you would still need to upgrade to Tiger v10.4.10 in order to burn CD's. http://support.apple.com/kb/DL857

OVM Manager is totally lost

Hello everyone,
The machine where I installed Oracle VM manager version 3.1.1 is totally lost accuse of hardware failure and unfortunately there is no backup taken for ovs schema nor for vm manager's config file as offline copy. I tried to install oracle vm manager o new machine, it is fine installed and ovs server is discovered properly, but my question is there a way to discover current ovs server configuration (Server pool, storage repository, network, ..., etc.) by the new oracle vm manager and change its ownership? or I have to re-install oracle vs which will cost a lot?

I have never had to do this, but just incase its helpful. The old vm.cfg for each VM should still be found on you NFS server in the repository you setup (assuming you used NFS). Unless someone has a better option, changing the appropiate UID's in the path may help. Here's an example to one of my VM's. You may also check the OVM Tools optional download to see if there are any usefull recovery utilities. There are likely wiser admin's here who can guide you better.... Good luck.

InDesign - The network connection was lost

I see a few threads in regards to this problem but I don't either understand or see a credible fix for it. I work for a company that has a creative services department. In total there are about 20 employees, all with the same image on their Mac. The Mac models themselves can vary but I have one user who has had two different Macs now and she continues to be the only one in the department who has this problem. Randomly she will get the following errors from InDesign CS6 vr. 8.0.1 on OS X 10.9. She works on files from a server. Illustrator doesn't have this issue working from the same sever but InDesign does. This can happen while she is actively using the Mac so there isn't anything turning off or going to hibernate mode.
The network connection was lost for the file XXXXXXX.indd, or the file was modified by another process.
Followed by
Adobe InDesign is shutting down. A serious error was detected. Please restart InDesign to recover work in any unsaved InDesign documents.
To troubleshoot I have done the following:
1) Deleted the InDesign prefs.
2) Updated the CS 6 suite
3) Changed out network cable
4) With new cable, swapped her network port with another users network port. Problem still stayed with the user.
5) Had the network team monitor her port with a sniffer. They found nothing wrong with it.
6) Updated OS X 10.9
7) Removed CS 6 and re-installed.
Not sure what else to do.

Mac server or Windows server? Have you checked her permissions/access vs another user not having the issue?

Hi folks! First post here so go easy on the newb...
Our computer got slammed with a virus a few days back and we had to wipe the hard drive and reinstall everything. So we lost lightroom. The original version we had was downloaded to begin with... so the only serial number we had was wiped with the rest of the hd. (bonehead, i know) We do have an upgrade serial number from when we upgraded our lightroom a while back, but it is useless without the "original SN#" which we don't have.
Is there anything we can do?

Time to get paranoid. For the future, backup everything, especially serial numbers and the like. I have a program in which I store all passwords, logins, serial numbers, etc that I need. Of course it is encrypted and it takes a password to get into it, but that is only ONE password. It is a desktop/mobile application, so it gets synced with my phone. (We travel a lot, so I need this information when we travel). All downloaded products and associated stuff live on an external drive and are backed up to another external drive. There is another copy made occasionally that lives offsite. I put a text file in the "products" directory for each program in which I ALSO have the serial number and any additional information about installation -- like what you need to install an upgrade, etc. I have learned to be paranoid through experiences similar to yours...
I do admit though that the companies are getting much better about forgotten serial numbers than they used to be, so it looks like you are saved this time.
I hope you have a copy of the database and the images? The images are truly irreplaceable, and the database is valuable.

It may be that your iPhone's set to sync automatically, which can potentially remove any music that's been added to the device. It may help to set the device to 'manual mode,' so that you have complete and total control over what content is on the device.

This is not a reply. I just want to elaborate on this problem.
My computer freezes occasionally when it is used after being sleep for a while. The spinning ball appears and everything is totally disabled. Nothing on the keyboard works.
The mouse moves, but does not work.
The only solution is to turn the power off and on (losing all data in open applications.)
I kept the System monitor running on the side to find out which program was running when the computer froze. The Monitor as well as all other applications froze, but the data showed:
Firefox 18.4%
Activity Monitor 0.9%
Firefox Plugin 0.2%
This is all the information I have. By the way, I am using iMac with OS 10.6.

No, nothing will prevent the computer from going to sleep when you close its display except third-party hacks that are designed to do exactly that. I strongly advise against using any of those, as they may interfere with successful entry into clamshell mode (and they carry other downside risks as well). Just wait until the computer is asleep (with its sleep light pulsing), then press any key on the keyboard. It sounds as though your setup is working as it's designed to do.
