Newest UltraNav driver brakes native windows middle-click scrolling

I just want to report that the newest touchpad driver brakes native windows middle-click scrolling.
What I'm talking is this:
1. Swich off all advanced features in the TouchPoint setting to get back a middle button. BTW, how on earth it is possible that the default setting "steals" the middle button. Going for the Nr. 1. PC maker and forgetting a stupid default settings in a Synaptics driver is a joke.
2. Now, try scrolling in any native windows application like Chrome, Firefox, etc.
The quick way of scrolling is to push the middle button while scrolling. It had always worked before.
Now this way is broken.
Now, the only way for scrolling is to the:
1. push middle button to enter scolling mode
2. move mouse
3. push again to exit scrolling mode
This scolling mode has never been a good way to scroll, but the quick way is broken with the latest driver.
I'm using a W520 with Windows 7, 64-bit. Broken driver: Version 16.2.5.0

same for me.
in addition, i never do BIOS updates from within a running Windows session. i always use the bootable CD method, following the instructions explicitly, and i've never had a bricked machine.
cheers.

  • Magic mouse - Windows middle click?

Yet another topic on so called magic mouse, which seems not so magic now. Though I'd still love to buy it!
Anyway, I've been looking into it for days, and once MagicPrefs became available middle click issue for OS X was solved. However, both my work and studies require frequent use of Windows CAD applications (hope remains it will feature Mac versions one day), where navigating with middle button is essential.
I've tried to look through discussion boards, but didn't find anything similar to this. Thanks in advance!

<rant> This is a big deal, but not really being taken seriously. Apple hasn't even bothered to work it out in their own OS yet. Thanks @vladalexa [MagicPrefs], a developer from Romania, for the final decision on the 70$ purchase )@steve(. Otherwise, the native software cannibalizes too much of the hardware's built-in functionality to justify the investment. Virtual machines would solve this issue, but I just don't have the free hardware resources to accommodate the kind of software I run. </rant>
i don't care how )magicprefs for windows / other manufacturer's driver / whatever works!(, there needs to be support for middle click in windows )native, not virtual(. it's like have a scroll wheel that doesn't work on a 70$ mouse...
    fingers crossed

  • Lenovo Update of Synaptics UltraNav driver now makes it reset vertical scrolling speed

After the last update of the Synaptics UltraNav Driver on my W510 to 16.1.1.0 through Lenovo Update it now keeps reseting the Vertical Scrolling speed (the lines per mouse wheel to 1) randomly when pluging/unplugging a mouse or docking/undocking or rebooting the machine.
This is probably the 5th case of a Lenovo Update that regresses something on the system I've had for the past year and a half...

I can confirm this problem.  It is very annoying to have to reset mouse scroll speed 5-10 times a day because I use my dock very often.  I have found no fix, whether temporary or permanent, to this problem.  I am using driver version 16.1xxxx (the latest "upgrade") and am very annoyed by this problem.  I hope Lenovo techs can help us.
Have You tried removing the driver and installing an older version? The one that You know worked?

  • Updating from FF3.6 to FF6 made my middle click scroll focus silly

For example, on any web page, attempting to middle click inside a text field results in the text field itself being scrolled.
I used to be able to have the middle click be a dedicated "scroll the main content" option with the mouse wheel being for individual items on the page.
How do I get this behaviour back?
Action performed: Middle click on a page element followed by moving the mouse in any direction
Desired effect: The main page content scrolls in the direction of the mouse
Actual effect: The clicked element scrolls in the direction on the mouse

Meanwhile, I have found a workaround for this problem:
    9. – When I have finished adding Comment Markers to a file, I export it's audio to a WAV from Prelude. This WAV-file will also contain the newly created markers. Then I send the WAV to my co-editor and he places the WAV under the original audio in his timeline. Now the extra .WAV-file will function as a 'guide track' which shows the markers. The audio channel can be muted.
It would make much more sense if Premiere always checks if a .XMP on the disk has been updated or added, when it is mounting the media upon opening the project file. Or even better: Premiere should update the Markers in the timeline in realtime, when the .XMP has changed.
Having said this, we found the following behavior of Premiere, when media and .XMP's on the disk are replaced:
    – Sony F5 / Sony PMW-100 / Canon XF200 .MXF + .XMP, only .XMP with new metadata is replaced on co-editor disk: Comment markers are MIXED with markers that were already present in the clip. Some markers get lost, because of conflicting timecodes?
    – Canon C300 .MXF + .XMP, only .XMP with new metadata is replaced on co-editor disk; Comment markers DO NOT show up in timeline. Re-import and re-placement of file in timeline is necessary (including syncing with external audio)
    – .MOV Quicktime container (entire .MOV has to be replaced on co-editor disk, since metadata is saved in Quicktime container): Comment markers are MIXED with markers that were already present in the clip. Some markers get lost, because of conflicting timecodes?
    – .WAV-files: Comment markers properly update on timeline.
I'm curious to see if the upcoming 2015 update contains improved functionality and bugfixes regarding .XMP metadata (e.g. Comment Markers) and sharing media. I'm especially curious about the new Adobe Anywhere functionality for small teams.

  • Middle-Click Scroll

In many applications (such as Firefox), clicking the scroll wheel brings up a white circle with an up/down arrow icon. While this icon is up, you're able to scroll both vertically and horizontally by moving the mouse.
Is there a reason why Safari lacks this feature? Also, is there any easy way to enable this feature in Safari?
    Thanks in advance.

Safari lacks that feature because if you were to use the mighty mouse(on the macs), it has a ball on top of it and you can press it fairly easily and it can annoy some people. There's no way you can enable that kind of feature in safari.(On the mouse that can be used for windows PCs when you press then it will need a bit more strength)

  • Scrolling problem with Elan UltraNav driver on Thinkpad L430, running Windows 8.1, Office 365

For some reason, touchpad edge scrolling, two-finger scrolling, and trackpoint+middle-button scrolling all fail to run in Microsoft Word 2013 (Office 365 University). They also fail to run in the Metro Mail App; and they mess with the zoom in Google Chrome. However, all three kinds of scrolling work fine in all other programs I've used, including other Office 365 programs (Excel 2013 and OneNote 2013).
I have the latest version of the driver installed (11.4.30.1). I tried uninstalling it and reinstalling it several times, to no avail. I was strongly tempted to leave it uninstalled and use standard Windows middle-click for my scroll function instead, but that doesn't work in Windows Explorer (where the only scrollable area is also clickable).
    Thoughts or suggestions?

Trackpoint + middle button scrolling works on all other apps except Google Chrome.    This stopped working recently and after some testing  I found that it is localized to just Chrome.  Works in Firefox, Outlook Mail 2010,  Powerpoint 2010,  etc.   I am using Windows 7 Pro on a X200S.      Is there a Chrome setting involved to correct this?

  • E540 Make Ultranav middle click behave like mouse middle click

I want the middle click on my Ultranav to behave like a middle click on a physical mouse does, where pressing down brings up the windows scroll thingy and makes me be able to open links in new tabs and close tabs. I don't see an option to do that. How can I change it?

The mouse from my imac G4 did this due to a break in the cord inside the housing. In my case, a new mouse was the only solution. It was sporadic at first, then longer and longer till I couldn't single click anything anymore.

  • Why does a new tab (middle click) in a new window open in the original window?

In FF 4 Beta 11 I open a new window, middle click a link in the new window, but the new tab opens on the original window.
Why doesn't it open in the new window?
Are there settings to alter this behaviour?

In 4.0 stable this problem still occurs. I have restarted in safe mode and all new tabs (middle click or right click new tab) open in the original window.

  • How do I change Middle Click to normal Middle Click instead of the Scroll on the Helix

    Hi,
I just bought the Lenovo Helix with Windows 8.1 and I've been trying to disable this auto-scroll or touch-scroll function that comes on by default on UltraNav.
On my old X220 with Windows 7, I can just go to Mouse-> UltraNav -> Settings -> Neither on Scroll / Magnify Features.
It seems like there's no way to turn it off for the Helix. From this discussion,
    http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/X-Series-ThinkPad-Laptops/Carbon-X1-Use-middle-scroll-button-as-middle-c...
It sounds this option isn't available yet on Windows 8.
I've tried older driver: No option to disable this feature.
I've tried Synaptic driver: I can use middle click but the touchpad is ultra sensitive and I can't adjust it.
Has anyone found a solution for this? I use the middle click a lot for openning new windows and pasting on linux screens. It makes the computer usable unless I have a mouse.

On Windows 8, using the UltraNav software/driver from Lenovo, middle click always means "Scroll".  There is no way to change this.  Maybe you can find some driver directly from Synaptics (and not from Lenovo) that lets you configure the middle mouse button as something other than "Scroll", but this definitely cannot be done with the Lenovo software.  I'm sorry I can't help you further.

  • Troubleshooting middle click quirks

    Hello All
New to the world of lenovo.   I am trying to troubleshoot an issue where the middle mouse button randomly works and am trying to figure out if it is hardware or software related.
    Some info
    Hardware: Lenovo x230
    OS: Ubuntu 12.04.2 (64bit)
    Kernel: 3.5.0-23-generic #35~precise1-Ubuntu SMP Fri Jan 25 17:13:26 UTC 2013 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux
Desktop environment: Cinnamon 1.6.7 (also tested with Unity)
    What happens:
In terminal if I middle click I would expect it to paste, some times it could take two or more clicks
In firefox if I middle click on a link I would expect it to open in a new tab, some times it can take two or more clicks to work, frequently it will stop working after the first successful middle click
scrolling in firefox/terminal/any window with middle click and the pointer works consistently.   I also have a logitech m570 wireless mouse which behaves as expected.
Has anyone experienced similar and know how to resolve.  While I have it in the back of my mind that it's a hardware issue it does  not make sense as the pointer+click consistently works so I assume it's software

The video at the link here may help.  If the printer does not recognize the door being opened you could fool the printer as follows:  press copy and once the printer starts going through the motions of printing unplug the power.  Once things have come to rest open the printer and manually move the carriage, then change the cartridge.  Plug the printer back in and power it up, it may take a bit of time for the printer to initialize.

  • Middle Click Freeze

    Hi,
I was recently having issues with my middle click button on my T500 but I was able to get that working.  However, now whenever I middle click (Scroll, open new tabs, etc.) I cannot use my touch pad for about a second.  It freezes.  Now I know this sounds like a ridiculous complaint but it is very annoying.

This guy was having the same issue.  Does anyone have any experience with this issue?  Thanks in advance.
    Solved!

    Colonel,
Thanks for noting the memory drain quirk...I believe James has that one escalated to engineering, so hopefully we'll get a new driver in a couple weeks that will solve this.

  • [SOLVED] Middle-button scrolling – multiple directions

Firefox has a nice feature: Edit -> Preferences -> Advanced -> General -> Use autoscrolling.
With the middle mouse button hold down, it is possible to scroll oversize contents of a window in any direction.
I would like to have the same functionality in any program, any window. I have learnt xinput and found this in Thinkwiki (and some other sites alike), and found these to be helpful. (I am trying to help a friend of mine with a Thinkpad, but I am experimenting with a mouse. I suppose trackpoint and mouse can be considered analogous in this regard.)
So now I have these commands in an autostart script:
    xinput set-prop $device "Evdev Wheel Emulation" 1
xinput set-prop $device "Evdev Wheel Emulation Button" 2
    xinput set-prop $device "Evdev Wheel Emulation Axes" 6 7 4 5
where $device is the name/number of the corresponding pointer device from “xinput list”.
So far, so good, it does what needed, except one thing: scrolling works in only the 4 main directions. If the pointer is moved e.g. in the NW direction, the page is scrolled either just upwards or just to the left.
Does anybody have an idea how to “enable” all the other directions, like it works in Firefox?
    Thanks in advance.

Let us know whether your tests succeeded, maybe we can extend the mouse–trackpoint analogy to stylus too…
i did mess around with this, but in the end - instead, i have reconfigured 'Easystroke' Gesture recogniton software to emulate a mouse wheel/Micorosft Windows middle-button scroll.
basically, my middle-mouse button is for gestures (when i hold it down), if i tap it and then touch/hold the stylus on the pad (first mouse button), then i can drag up or down. (maybe left and right too, but i haven't really checked). there is basically a rule you can set in easystroke called 'ignore', which allows this to ignore my gesture button unless i am holding it down.
it works for me. in the past i had tried this method, but didn't like it-  but i think that had more to do with buggy driver / xorg. it's fine now though

  • FIXED! Middle Click Functionality Disabled on Windows 10 upgrade . . . FIXED!!!!!!!

On upgrading my ThinkPad Edge E545 to windows 10, I lost the ability to middle click. ....The new UltraNav had got rid of trackpoint options box that allowed me to select "neither" and only allowed me to change the senstivity of the scrolling.....Diabling trackpoint meant that I lost the ability to use the buttons at all!! Cray Cray!  I was losing it trying to fix it....reinstalling, rebooting, trying old drivers....nothing worked.....then finally I found this post about the same problem in windows 8... In my case, with windows 10 I just searched for 'trackpointmode" in regedit......that ended up being here HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-21-1557542073-2641846280-496700362-1003\SOFTWARE\Synaptics\SynTPEnh\UltraNavPS2Then...
Change "TrackPointMode" to dword:00002214 from the previous value of 00001214

  • How do I get my hotmail to open in a new tab instead of a new window and I've tried the middle click/ctlr option.

MSN is my home page and when I click on the hotmail link in the top left hand corner of the page it always opens in a new window even if I press middle-click/ ctrl keys. The hotmail link is the only link that I have had this problem with thus far. Can you help me correct this problem?

Hotmail opens in a new window because the code or set of instructions on the MSN website tells Firefox to open Hotmail in a new window. I would suggest you right click on the Hotmail button and left click on "Open Link in New Tab". This will open a new tab in the current window.

  • Safari 3 Beta - Windows  - Feature Request - Middle-click open in new tab

I'm checking out the new beta... I have a quick suggestion for a feature.
One thing I've noticed is that there is no option for middle-click to open a link in a new tab. I love this option in Mozilla and IE7, please implement it in Safari!
    Thanks!

I can Middle click on any link, any bookmark an have it open in a new tab.
(in the background). Or make the new tab current. Just go to the preferences & fingle around. I can also left or middle click a tab to close it. It must be your settings. You can also rearrange tabs by dragging them. Create new windows
by dragging the tabs off the bar. Merge all windows by going to the Windows pull down menu. i cant really test if this works on a PC because i sold my last rig (PC) for pennies. another feature i like is (private browsing)
