Newest version of Itunes won't let me import CDs

I recently installed the newest version of Itunes (10.6.1). Now every time I open it, I get the message: "Itunes was not properly installed. If you wish to import or burn CDs you will have to reinstall Itunes." I have to click OK, and then Itunes opens. Also, all the music I have previously imported from CDs is listed under "unknown Album," without artist or track number information. However, I do still have the files in My Music.
Possible related issues: I wanted to install the latest version because Itunes was not recognizing my ipod. I did have some trouble with the install; something about Windows not recognizing this download as safe, even though I got it from apple.com. I proceeded anyway. I have also had trouble with Itunes taking up too much space on my computer, and having to split my library between my C and D drives. In addition, my computer is 6 years old.
I am going to try to install Itunes again; is there anything I can do to make sure it works this time, i.e. recognizes all of my imported music?

This worked for me:
Find your added songs in your playlists (you'll find them there)
Select them
Right click and 'Make version for MP3'
As a little miracle you'll now find the album in your album and number-tab.
The album now contains two versions of each song. Delete one and the album remains.

  • ITunes won't let me import songs from folders

hey for some reason iTunes won't let me import some songs, but it will others. I've checked and there is no difference between the songs, they're both MP3's, they have the same quality and they're even by the same artist!
Any ideas why and how I can fix it are helpful.

I having the same problem. I noticed that some videos were missing from my itunes TV Shows playlist. Also, when I tried downloading a file into my ipod, I got an error message stating that the file was not compatiable with my iPod. Only I got the file from iTunes! I've tried deleting everything and reloading with the same results. It will not upload several files. Most of which are already AAC. I've tried adding, importing, and copy and paste with all resulting in failure.
This is becoming a total pain in the rear. If it's not one thing, it's another. I mean every since iTunes 7, the bugs keep mounting, and that before I switch to a Vista OS.

  • TS1424 MSVCR80.DLL file newest version of itunes won't open

    how do i fix this?

I too am having the same problem. iTunes appears as a process in Task Manager but after about 3 seconds ... nothing. It does not appear in the Applications tab. It just looks like it is waiting for something.
This occured after I installed the latest version of iTunes.
    I have:
    deinstalled iTunes and quicktime
    re-installed
    re-installed old versions
removed every reference to iTunes in regEdit
used unlocker to ensure no files locked (other than system files)
    renamed mymusic/itunes directory
    removed my virus checker
    rebooted 1256 time! at least
scanned google endlessly looking for ideas - I have tried a few without success
    (eg removing C:\Program Data\Apple Computer\iTunes\SC Info.sidb file)
pulled out most of my remaing hair
... and none of this changes anything!
The only thing left I can thing of doing is reinstalling XP - but this is pretty drastic with no garantee of working.
    Can anyone help us both?

  • HT1386 New version of iTunes won't let me move music to my iPod.

How do you move music from your iTunes library to your iPod with the new version of iTunes?

If you  have iTunes 11 turn on the Sidebar.  Go to iTunes>View and click on Show Sidebar. You can also do a Crtl+S to show the sidebar.
To sync to your iPod go to iTunes>Help>iTunes Help>Syncing your iPod....>Sync You Device and follow the instructions.

  • Newest version of iTunes won't order my songs on my iPod correctly

The newest iTunes update totally messes the way that I sorted my purchased playlist. I had them sorted by numbers of play descending, but when I sync my iPod, the songs aren't the way that I have sorted them on iTunes and it just started happening. Anyway I can fix this?

Its not sorting ANYTHING in descending (down arrow) order.

  • The Newest version of iTunes won't download. I uninstalled it and then am trying to re-install it but all I keep getting is an error message.

I uninstalled iTunes the first time because it wasn't updating my phone. And now, when I go to re-install it I am getting an error message that says "The installer has insufficient privelages to modify this file" (x86) I don't know how to get around this and now I can't sync or update my phone or anything because I don't have iTuunes so it's pointless.

i have the same problem, have unistalled itunes as was told to because of upgrade fault & now have nothing

  • Itunes won't let me import any CDs

I have had an ipod (not the same ipod, but an ipod)for 3 years now. Never in that whole time have I ever had this problem.
A few days ago I got a CD that I wanted to import. i have done this too many times to count. When I went to do it, it asked if I wanted to import it and, as usual, I said yes. As soon as I did, there was a bit of a delay, and then a window popped up saying that Itunes had stopped working and needed to close. I didn't think much of it and I went to try again. It did the same thing. It did it again and again and again; i must have tried it 50 times. Then I went into Windows Media Player and it let me do it successfully. Yes! Success, right? Wrong. I went to "add a file" in itunes and clicked on the file i wanted (again, i had done this tons of times) and it said it needed to convert, which i knew, so i said yes to this conversion and then the same window that came up all those times before appeared again. I tried to import a different CD, thinking maybe it was just that one, but it wasn't. It has happened with at least 5 different CDs i have tried and I am SO irritated, I have no idea what is wrong. Please help me!
I have asked several people I know who have lots of experiance with itunes and they have all said to get into and then close itunes, and i've done that (over and over again, may i add) and it has nothing to do with that. Someone said it was somethign with the conversion with windows media player; it doesn't work even without converting! no one is giving me any information i need and now i'm starting to worry it's something wrong with my computer. then again, it works with WMP so who knows. please help!!!

We'd better check your version number, lynz. In iTunes, go "Help > About iTunes" and wait for the version number to scroll up from the bottom.
If you've got an iTunes 10.1.0.54, we need to get you updated to 10.1.0.56. It won't show for you in Apple Software update if you already have a 10.1.54 installed, so download the 10.1.0.56 installer from the Apple Website, as per the following document:

  • ITunes won't let me import audio files to my library

I try and drag a song from my music file into iTunes and it just doesn't do anything. I've also tried File > Add file to library but that still doesn't work.
It doesn't give any sort of error or anything. Just doesn't do anything at all.

That is the usual reaction when iTunes encounters a file that it finds to be incompatible. Assuming it is a valid MP3 that works in other players, the problem can usually be corrected by treating with a 3rd party tag cleanup program such as MP3 Validator.

  • Newest version of iTunes wont burn or sometimes eject cds

    Hello,
Which Mac do you have? And have you checked the drive for any possible problems lately?
Testing and repairing a disk or volume
When you have problems with a disk or volume, use Disk Utility to test and repair it. Disk Utility also reports the S.M.A.R.T. status, which tells you whether your disk has hardware problems that will cause it to fail.
To repair a disk, you need an administrator's password. If you don't have one, ask an administrator to repair the disk with Disk Utility for you.
You can verify your startup disk with Disk Utility, but to repair it, you must start up your computer using another disk. For example, you can use your Mac OS X Install disk.
In addition, you cannot test or repair write-protected disks, nonrecordable CDs or DVDs, or disks with open files.
Close the files and quit the applications on the disk that you want to repair.
Open Disk Utility, and select the disk in the list on the left.
    Click First Aid.
Check the S.M.A.R.T. Status at the bottom of the window. If you can't see the S.M.A.R.T. Status, be sure you selected the hard disk your volume is on, and not the volume itself.
If the S.M.A.R.T. Status is "About to Fail," back up your files on the disk as soon as possible and replace the disk.
If the S.M.A.R.T. Status is "Verified" or "Not supported," click Repair Disk to repair the disk.
If Disk Utility cannot unmount the disk, be sure you have quit any open applications and click Repair Disk again. If it still cannot unmount the disk, repair it just like you would repair a startup disk, by starting your computer from another disk, such as your Mac OS X Install disk.
If Disk Utility tells you to look for links to corrupt files in the DamagedFiles directory, some of those files are overlapping on your hard disk and are likely to be corrupt. Examine the affected files, each of which is listed in Disk Utility's output on a line that begins "Overlapped extent allocation". Most of these files have aliases in the DamagedFiles folder at the top level of the affected disk. If you can replace the file or recreate it, delete it. If it contains necessary information, open it and examine its data to make sure it has not been corrupted.
If Disk Utility cannot repair your disk or reports "The underlying task reported failure," try to repair the disk again. If that doesn't work, back up as much of your data as possible, reformat your disk, reinstall Mac OS X, and restore your backed up data. If you continue to have problems with your disk, it may be physically damaged and need to be replaced. See an authorized Apple dealer for more information.

When I try to update to the newest version of itunes it won't let me. Why?

  • HT1399 I have a windows pc. It has windows 8 installed and I've installed the newest version of itunes but when I try to play anything, it won't. There's no sound and it says it's playing but it does not. What can I do?

I have a windows 8 computer and I installed the newest version of itunes because I used to have an ipod and I have a few purchases that I wanted to listen to. When I try to play them it says it's playing but I can't hear anything. It does not even says it's played the whole way. It just stays at the beginning. It won't let me pause. I checked my computer sound and there  is nothing wrong with it. So there must be some software problem but idk what it is. If anyone can help I would appreciated. Thank-you

    Hi DJBentley2011,
    Welcome to Apple Support Communities.
It sounds like there is an issue burning CD's in iTunes. Is the playback issue only occurring on a specific device and does the disc show up correctly in iTunes? • HT4527 I transfered my Itunes information using a thumb drive to my new computer and downloaded the newest version of itunes to my new laptop. My songs are all there on the new computer but it won't recognize my ipod and sync.

I transfered my I tunes library to my new laptop using a thumb drive. I downloaded the newest version of Itunes to my new computer. My old ITUNES library of songs and books came across just fine. I can play them on the new laptop but they won't sync with my Ipod. The Itunes shows no devices when I hook it up to the laptop. Windows recognizes that the IPOD is hooked up. But no connection with ITUNES. Did I make a mistake in trying to sync my Itunes purchases to the new laptop before transfering the old library into the new ITUNES. If so how do I undo the problem.  Please help.  I use a PC with Windows XP.

It seems that you try to update iTunes rather than your phone. To update your phone, connect it to your computer, and on the page of your phone in iTunes, you should have a button "check for updates" or something similar.

  • HT1386 Just downloaded the newest version of Itunes.  Now my Iphone 4s won't sync with Outlook calendar.  Has any one else seen this?

Just downloaded the newest version of Itunes.  Now my Iphone 4s won't sync with Calendar in XP Outlook.  Has anyone else had this problem, and how did you fix it?  I've already made sure the proper check boxes are on in Itunes and tried the reset sync history.  Also re-downloaded Itunes again.  Same problem.

Well, OSX 10.9.2 is free, which should solve the iTunes problem, but 10.9.2 isn't bug free, & you'll lose the ability to run any PPC Apps if that important, as well as needing to update many Apps & Printer Drivers.
