Newly updated itunes keeps crashing / freezing

i recently both consolidated my 80 gig music library to a new 320 gig LaCie little disk firewire hard drive and updated my itunes software to the most current update. almost every time i start playing an MP3 my itunes becomes unresponsive about 3 seconds into the song for 30+ seconds and pauses for about 20 seconds in between songs. this is the least of the issues. what's worse is that it takes up a large percentage of my CPU.
i never had this problem before updating my itunes... have tried throwing the itunes application away and reinstalling, and this hasn't helped. i can't imagine it would be the new LaCie drive as it works flawlessly outside of itunes.
anybody else having similar issues? it's pretty annoying. i would just go with another media player, but i don't know what else i could sync my iphone through.
any help would be greatly appreciated.
thanks!

ok i cannot help you directly, but i have a similar issue. i have all the music i want on my ipod also saved in itunes, but, my computer is very slow now because of all the memory the music takes up, it even crashes form time to time.
i want to know if there is a way i can delete the music form itunes and my computer and be able to only add music to my ipod. i have tried a few things but everytime i remove something form the library it deletes it from the ipod when it syncronizes.
any advice?

After the update iTunes keeps crashing and won't play any of my music and keeps restarting my phone.
Anyone else have this problem and resolved it?
    Thank you!

Well, I hadn't rebooted after the 7.1.1 upgrade, but obviously I had to restart iTunes. After I rebooted my iBook iTunes worked... Maybe the 7.1.1 update should be marked with a must reboot?

  • My itunes keeps crashing after installing the lastest update

I have just installed the latest itunes update 10.6 and now my itunes keeps crashing. It opens and then when I try to scroll down or access my pod-casts it crashes and quits. I have tried restarting the machine and that has not helped. Really bad show to Apple for this. Any ideas.

You may want to try deleting the iTunes preference file (/Users/your home folder/Library/Preferences/com.apple.iTunes.plist). I was having a similar problem, everytime I tried to veiw TV Shows iTunes would crash, and doing this appears to have fixed my problem.

  • Itunes keeps crashing after i updated to 6.0.4

    hi,
i have been having trouble in my imac g5 1.8 ghz.
my itunes keeps crashing and i cant close it, i cant even "force quit" on it.
its really hard to eject my ipod, and sometimes the music plays, but there is no sound.
    is there any known fix?
    thanx

    Hi,
I'm having the exact same problem. What's the deal
here. How about a patch or something from apple.
The whole reason I use a mac is it never crashes on
me. If it's going to crash I might as well go back
to a pc (Ok sorry, nothing can make me go back to a
    pc
Whew! Thank you for that last thought....
Anyway, what I ended up doing was trashing everything iTunes including the iTunes X package & prefs (I used Spotlight to find everything), and then reinstalling a new copy of iTunes. First I backed up my iTunes music folder containing the music and data base (your file>Music>iTunes). Then I put my iTunes music folder back where it was and I didn't lose a thing.
However, don't trash everything that shows up in a Spotlight search of iTunes--only the package and all prefs associated with iTunes and, of course, back up your music folder first or you will lose all your iTunes music, books, videos, etc.
Since no one seems to be able to figure out why only a few of us are having this crashing problem with iTunes, it's just not being addressed. They tell us to "post" our crash logs, but not how. You can't upload files to this forum, and the crash log is too voluminous to cut and paste here.
My idea worked for me, but it's dangerous. If you're not sure what to trash, email me for a list. Spotlight will show you where each item is when you click on the little "i" in the circle when you tell Spotlight to "Show All."
Oh, and Apple does not do patches.

  • HT1349 My iTunes keeps crashing every single time I open a Windows PC or Laptop and the "Matching with the itunes store" starts.  It's driving me nuts because I can't sync to my iphones or my ipad.

My iTunes keeps crashing every single time I open the software on any of my PCs and laptops.  Once the Itunes match features starts it's ony a matter of a minute or two before the software crashes.  I have tons of new songs that I want to sync to my ipod, ipad and iphones but can't get it accomplished.  Any suggestions??

    Hello there, Staver13.
The following Knowledge Base article provides some assistance in troubleshooting your issue:
Can't connect to the iTunes Store
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1368
    Particularly:
Troubleshoot issues on an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
If you haven't been able to connect to the iTunes Store:
Make sure your date, time, and time zone are correct in Settings > General > Date & Time.
Note: Time Zone may list another city in your time zone.
Make sure that your iOS software is up to date by tapping Settings > General > Software Update (iOS 5 or later) or connecting your iOS device to iTunes and clicking Check for Update on your device's Summary page.
Check and verify that you're in range of a Wi-Fi router or base station. If you're on a device with cellular service, make sure that cellular data is turned on from Settings > General > Cellular.
Note: If connected to cellular data, larger items may not download. You may need to connect to Wi-Fi to download apps, videos, and podcasts.
Make sure that you have an active Internet connection. You can check the user guide for your device for help with connecting to the Internet.
Make sure that other devices (portable computers, for example) are able to connect to the Wi-Fi network and access the Internet.
Try resetting (turning off and then on again) your Wi-Fi router.
If the issue persists, try troubleshooting your Wi-Fi networks and connections.

  • ITunes keeps crashing on my Dell PC.

iTunes keeps crashing on my Dell PC with Windows Vista. I have already uninstalled and reinstalled- didn't help.  iTunes will open, but then crashes after about two or three minutes, no matter what I'm doing with it at the time. Any ideas?
Could a lack of available hard drive space be contributing? I was about to move my iTunes library to an external hard drive, but was hoping to resolve this issue first.
    Thanks!

  • (Mavericks) iTunes keeps crashing on sync "This iPhone is already syncing apps with "%1$S"

I updated my MacBook Air to Mavericks yesterday.  When attempting to sync my iPad2 and iPhone4 this morning, iTunes keeps crashing on me.
There seems to be some issues with what it thinks my computer name or my Apple ID is.  It keeps referring to them as %1$S
Check out this screenshot on the device Summary page of iTunes, It may be hard to make out the text since the image was resized upon uploading it:
The the top circled item reads "This iPhone is already syncing apps with "%1$S"
The second circled item is the incorrectly sized Check for updates button
The thrid circled item (left) are my Apple ID name and computer name, both referred to as %1$S
The fourth circled item (right) is the text "Do you want to allow this computer to access information on "%1$S".
Is anyone else having these issues after upgrading to Mavericks?  Any resolution?

Nevermind, found that there is also an update that Itunes needed this morning to be compatible with Mavericks.  After updating all is fine.
Not sure why iTunes update required for Mavericks was not included in Mavericks, but whatever.  Hope this helps anyone else who had this issue.

as per your profile, you're on 10.4.6.
i recommend you do the following:
    1) run +verify disk+ and +repair permission+ sessions using *disk utility*
    2) download and run the _*Mac OS X 10.4.11 Combo Update (PPC)*_
    3) upon reboot, repair permissions again.
    4) run +software update+ from the  menu and install any updates that are offered
    5) reboot
    6) fire up iTunes
    any improvement ?

  • After latest update itunes match crashed with empy library

After being a little late i finally updated itunes to the latest version (on windows 8.1), now itunes keeps crashing when it connects to itunes match (from an empty library all music is in cloud)
Tried a lot of solutions here like:
hold shift and create new library
delete all itunes related files and re install
    disable firewall and anti virus
I cant look for corrupted files, since there arent any songs on this laptop.
Anyone has any idea what solution i might be missing? Problem starts seconds after syncing an empy library to itunes match

  • Itunes keeps crashing, help please!!

so today I updated my software (included quicktime, itunes, and a security update) and even downloaded the safari 3 beta. so after I installed the safari 3 beta, everything with safari worked fine. after installing itunes 7.2, it would keep crashing. so I figured the problem was with 7.2, so uninstalled it and reinstalled 7.1, kept crashing. so then I uninstalled and reinstalled safari 2, thinking that would fix everything. nope, itunes keeps crashing. any ideas, please help, thanks

I actually figured it out. I reinstalled my itunes to 7.1 and then installed 7.2 for the heck of it. and then I realized (after reading how some plug-ins have been screwing it up) that I had installed a plug-in a long time ago and had forgotten about it, so I simply deleted that and everything is fine. So, to the guy that's having the same problem, make sure you don't have any plug-ins installed and if so just delete them.
