Newpc, new itunes, old ipod, new troubles

Got a new pc, and installed new itunes, and now itunes does display my ipod, but not my playlists. New playlists and new music do not download to ipod. Have tried reset, redownload, reviewed cables, etc. Do not wish to try restore ipod, but will if needed. Any suggestions gratefully accepted. Thanks, M

Try checking all of your settings in iTunes.
Go to Edit - Preferences. Make sure you have your iPod plugged in. Then click the iPod tab, and make sure "Automaticaly Update All Songs on iPod is checked.
The problem sounds like it does NOT lie in the iPod, so restoring it probably won't help. Mess around with the settings in iTunes. Try other settings, not just one the one i told you. Maybe something just got selected or deselected by accident.

  • New Computer, new itunes, old iPod

My computer recently breathed its last and my hard drive was destroyed, so having purchased a new one and installed itunes I plugged my iPod in only to find there is no obvious way of transfering songs from the iPod to iTunes. I've authorised my account with the same apple id as before, yet it still won't let me transfer music. Is the only way to go through each of my CDs indivdually? Again?!

    Copy from iPod to PC
It is important not to allow your iPod to sync with an empty library. If it is set to synchronise automatically you will get a message saying your iPod is linked to a different library and asking if you want to sync – it is important to press cancel as syncing with an empty library erases all music from your iPod.
You can also prevent auto sync by holding down shift & ctrl as you plug in your iPod and keeping the keys held down until the iPod appears in iTunes.
Once you are connected, you need to set your iPod to manage music manually.

If you have an iPod with iTunes Store purchases on it, you can use it to copy your purchases to other authorized computers.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=iTunesWin/7.3/en/2586win.html
However this is not allowed for other music.
This MacMuse tip tells you how to copy music from your iPod using Windows Explorer, but it is a bit fiddly:

Otherwise you can use third party software to manage the transfer, there are a variety of programs out there, some free and some that will copy ratings and counts as well as the music files. Here is a selection, check them out and see what suits you.

  • New iTunes, Old iPod

My iTunes was on an old computer that was cleaned, so all the files were deleted. All my songs are still on my iPod, but the library on the iTunes, which I recently reinstalled, is empty. Is there anything I can do to get the songs from my iPod onto iTunes?

There are a lot of free programs out there that will do this. I'm going to:

  • New iTunes/Old iPod - I'm gonna lose it all...

Ok, so I had my computer overhauled and iTunes was removed. I no longer have the iTunes disc that came with my iPod mini.
So I downloaded iTunes version 5.0 from the website. It no longer has my music library (obviously). I am afraid to hook up my iPod mini (which contains about 400 songs) because I know I will most likely lose all of those songs.
I do have most of my music still on my computer in files that are playable in Windows Media Player. In case I hook up my ipod and lose all my songs is there a way I can copy the music I have saved on my computer into iTunes?
I know I'm going to lose it all. Apple just still has too many unknowns and obstacles to this while thing.

The best way that i know is to install itunes 5.0 then open each and evey song etc. that you have on your computer, takes a long time to get every file but its worth it in the end. Howvever i'm a little shocked that itunes hasn't search and uploaded all the sound files for you. if that doesn't work i think there is software you can download that takes the music off the ipod, i don't think apple like you to use it but its your ipod,

  • With the new itunes i'm having trouble transfer music to my older ipod. I use to be able  to drag the music over from my new ipod.

with the new itunes i'm having trouble transfering music from my computer to my older ipod.

If you  have iTunes 11 turn on the Sidebar. Go to iTunes>View and click on Show Sidebar. This makes 1 look and act more like previous versions. Also go to iTunes>Help>iTunes Help>Sync your iPod>Sync your device>Set up syncing>Sync device manually.

  • New Computer Old Ipod Touch

I got a new computer and recently hooked-up my old Ipod. Unfortunately, only the music I purchased on the Ipod transferred to the new Itunes on the new computer. All of the CD's I had on the Ipod don't transfer. Itunes wants me to update to Ipod Touch software 4.02 but it will cause all the songs on the Ipod to be erased and replaced only with what is in currently in Itunes.
Is there an easy way to transfer the music or does Apple have my hands tied?

  • New computer/old ipod - how do I update my libray from my ipod?

new computer/old ipod - how do I update my libray from my ipod? the music wasn't transfered from cd's, shared music files...no purchased from the ipod store.

The ipod is not a storage/backup device. The sync is one way - computer to ipod.  The only exception is itunes purchases:  File>Devices>Transfer Purchases
It has always been very basic to always maintain a backup copy of your computer.  Use your backup copy to put everything on your new computer.

  • What can I do simply  to keep all my previous contents, (own pics, videos, etc.) on my previously authorized iPad on PC, but get a new authorisation and a right syncronization, without data loss with a new  iTunes on my new Mac?

    Friends,
I already had an iPad(1) and its full contents (not only the purchased items, applications from Apple, but my all own pics, videos, songs etc.) is normally syncronized with an authorized PC (Windows) computer.
Now,  I've bought a new MacBook Air computer, and want to sell my PC. But I don't know how to transfer (or syncronize) all of the contents from my previous iTunes on PC to the new one on the Mac.
When I connected my iPad to my new MacBook Air, I promted, if I want to change authorization of my iPad to the MacBook.
But also got a warning, that the new iTunes will delete from my iPad all my previously syncronized items, pics, videos and music, with the previously authorized  iTunes on the previous computer, expect the saved pics from the net.
What can I do just like that, simply  to keep all my previous contents on my iPad, but have a new authorisation and a right syncronization, without data loss with the new  iTunes on my new Mac?
Thanks a lot for your answer.

Here are some instructions that I have posted several times that may be helpful to you as they have been to others. You can simply ignore anything that does not apply or that you have already done.
As Alan stated above - transferring the iTunes library is the best first step. If you can transfer the iTunes library to the Mac, most of this will be unecessary for you to do.
    Very Important ....
    1. Authorize the computer.
    2. Turn off auto sync in iTunes
    3. Transfer purchases
The text in italics is from the other thread - non italics are my words.
The following was copied from this thread. This is essentially what you want to accomplish.
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/11527071#11527071
    1) Without connecting your iPad to your new computer, start iTunes. Click on iTunes. Click on Preferences. Click on Devices. Check the box next to "Prevent your iPod etc. from automatically syncing." Click OK.
    2) Now connect your iPad to your computer and start iTunes.
    3) When iTunes starts, right click on your iPad under Devices in the left column. Select Transfer purchases etc.
    4) After it finishes transferring all your apps to your computer, right click on your iPad and select Backup your iPad.
    5) After it finishes backing up your iPad, right click on your iPad and select Restore etc.
    6) After it finishes restoring, left click on your iPad , then click on the Apps tab on top, and check the box next to Sync Apps, then click on Apply below.
If everything on your iPad looks good after the sync, go back and click on iTunes / Preferences / Devices and UN-check the box next to Prevent your iPod etc. The only other thing you may want to check is if your contacts, bookmarks, etc. are syncing correctly now. If not, go to the Info tab after connecting and make sure you indicate which features you want to sync with what sources.
Read this thread and the support links as well. There are apps that you can purchase that will allow you to transfer photos from the iPad to your computer. Look at Photo Transfer App in the App store and you can search for others as well.

This support site will help you with transferring iTunes music to your new computer.

One final note - you may want to leave auto sync turned off - but that is totally up to you. I never did use auto sync.

  • New iTunes on a new computer.

My computer died.  I had many gig of music on my iTunes from CD's that I had uploaded (not purchased from apple store).  The music is still on my iPhone.  How do I get it back into my new iTunes on my new computer?  Is there an app I can use or something?  I really don't want to manually upload 100s of CD's again.  Since it was not purchased music, it is not in the cloud.
    Your help is appreciated,

  • If i create a new itunes on a new computer and then connect my iphone to it will it clear my phone or simply copy all apps and items to the new itunes?

If i create a new itunes on a new computer and then connect my iphone to that computer will it clear my phone or simply copy all apps and items to the new Itunes?

Do not create a new iTunes account... accounts cannot be merged.
Install iTunes on the new computer.
Syncing of iDevices does not import content to a computer, the sync is one way from computer to iDevice.

Yes, you need to purchase Snow Leopard v10.6 from Apple.
You can purchase Snow Leopard from the Apple online store > Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard - Apple Store
Which OS X is installed on your Mac ?
Click the Apple () menu top left in your screen. From the drop down menu click About This Mac. The version is noted there.
Make sure your Mac meets v10.6 Snow Leopard requirements before purchasig >  Mac OS X v10.6 Snow Leopard - Technical Specifications
OS X v10.6.8 is the minimum requirements for the 5S > Apple - iPhone 5s - Technical Specifications

  • I've had Itunes since the original ipod came out, I have upgraded to the new version, and upgraded my Ipod to and Ipod Touch, but I can't get the music I already purchased from the old Itunes to play/sync in my new itunes or ipod. How do I fix this?

I have the new version of Itunes and have upgraded from 1st gen. Ipod to 4th gen. Ipod touch, I am unable to sync all my music from my old Itunes to my new Ipod, also when I try to play the music on the computer through Itunes it says it needs to be authorized but keeps using my Old email account (which I don't have anymore) for me to authorize, is there a way to fix/ change this so I don't have to buy that music over again?

What exactly happens when you try to sync?
    Does iTunes see the iPod?
Was the iPod previous synced to another iTunes library/computer?
Have you successfully synced from this iTunes library/computer before?
If so have you done anything like update iTunes on the computer since it last successfully synced?
Do the songs play in iTunes?
Does any media now sync to the iPod?
Do you have the right boxes checked to sync?

  • Will 1st gen ipod touch still work with new itunes library on new computer (transfer didn't work from old computer)

Ok, so I have a new computer and wanted to transfer my itunes library from my old computer. I could not get the files to transfer. I downloaded the newest version of itunes and see that I can download my previously purchased music to the new computer. I have mp3's that I can add in on my own so I don't have a problem starting over in itunes.
My question is what happens when I plug in my 1st gen ipod touch and try to sync??? Will it erase what is on my ipod or will I be able to move the stuff from my ipod into my new itunes library?? Any info would be great...I'm happy with how my ipod is set up so I really don't want to mess with a good thing. Also, will I need to update and of my software on my ipod since it's 1st generation??
    Thanks for the help!!

You can only sync to one iTunes library/computer. If you do sync the iPod is erases and its contents replaced with what is in the iTunes library of the second computer.
    To avoid that see:
Syncing to a "New" Computer or replacing a "crashed" Hard Drive: Apple Support Communities
Yes, the 1G works with the latest iTunes.
    To transfer iTunes purchases:
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iOS device or iPod to a computer
In iTunes 11 use Control+B to show the Menu bar then go to iTunes>File>Devices>Transfer Purchases

  • Old Ipod New Itunes

Going through my room i found a very old Ipod Mini, and i want to see what music ihad on it, but the screen is totaly cracked and you cant see anything, when i plugg it into my comouter nothing happens, is there anything i can do? or is it a lost cause?

    Hey...
I've got this really annoying problem I cannot solve.
My iPod shuffle was and still is working properly,
but I've got a new computer now and new iTunes on
that same computer. When I connect my iPod to this
new computer it recognizes it, but doesn't want to
work (transfering music etc.) unless I restore my
iPod. I tried to do that but my iPod was restoring
for about 5 hours, and then I gave up cause obviously
something was wrong. Can anyone tell me how can I use
    my iPod on two computers??
Bad news... the Shuffle only syncs to one iTunes (and computer) at a time. Each time you synce it to a different one, the contents are wiped...
And why doesn't it want to
    restore properly??
Don't know... but you could try the Reset Utility:
