Newsletter issues

What settings do I need to get Pages to treat each of my 8 pages in my newsletter as an individual page? Right now the first page stays put, but whatever I add to a subsequent page moves everything on the 7 pages that follow.
Also, in my last issue, I added a graphic, moved it to the background, and now cannot remove it for the next issue. Clicking on it gives no response. I wanted to delete the entire page, but since that page is included with the other seven (see above) I would lose too much of what I have established in my newsletter/

Welcome to Apple Discussions
To make your pages act independently you must insert a Section Break at the end of each page. To retrieve your graphic, click and hold outside the margin and drag to the graphic to select it, then move it to the front

Solutions and Thanks over the last fortnight
Here are some of the forum’s top contributors in terms of solutions and kudos given and received.
Some forum members have declined to be mentioned, but you know who you are! Heartfelt thanks from the forum team goes to you and all of the members below:
    Solutions authored: @Keith_Beddoe
    Kudos received: @john46 and @ray_dorset

    Tethering on BT Mobile
Tethering isn’t supported on BT Mobile and there has been a lot of discussion over this last fortnight about this. Thanks @snowglider for starting this conversation.
Software update for BT YouView customer
Last week, we started to roll out a software update for BT YouView customers. If you’ve already received the update, we want to hear your feedback! So please join in with the conversation here.
Some of our most searched topics were...
    About Desktop Help.
Information on what it does, how you can download it and a video-overview is available here.
Another top search was for finding out how you can test your broadband speeds.
You can run this test to get information on what speed you’re achieving and advice if the test picks up any problems. Of course, you can always ask for additional help on our broadband boards!
Forum feature of the week - tagging
You may have noticed that you can use a feature called “Tags” on forum posts.
Tags are a handy way of categorising or summarising content – they help posters quickly find relevant information when they are searching for something specific.
Over 450 posts have been tagged so far this year!
The top five tags used this year are mostly all broadband related, which is unsurprising since our broadband boards are the busiest at the moment, and they are:
    BT
    Infinity
    Broadband
    Connection
    Hub
Find out more on how you can tag your posts here.
    That’s it for now…
Thanks to everyone who replied to our previous newsletter. We’re trying to do something a little bit different, and as always your comments and suggestions are very much appreciated!

I think perhaps you should understand that this is much more than the usual type of forum. It is a community. It also part of the BT customer service options. It is an excellent place for help and information and finding solutions.

    Forum milestone – accepted solutions
The forum’s accepted solutions feature is a great way of recognising fellow forum members for providing the answer to a problem. It also helps others find the correct answer to their question when they use the forum’s search facility.
We are very proud to announce that, as of last week, the total number posts marked as accepted solutions to date have now exceeded 15.000!
Here’s to the community reaching the 20.000 mark!
Solutions and Thanks over the last fortnight
Here are some of the forum’s top contributors in terms of solutions, kudos given and kudos received.
Two of our most prolific posters over the last few weeks have been @rarmitage124and @umpire – thanks for all the help you’ve been offering on the community!
This week alone, rarmitage124 has received over 10 kudos and authored several solutions, by offering help across the whole forum.
Umpire has recently offered a lot of advice on the BT TV boards, and also helped solve several threads since the last newsletter, by giving swift and straightforward answers on BT TV and BT Sport. Here’s an example.
Well done guys, thanks for all your help!
    Our picks
One of the top discussions over the last number of weeks has been about the new BT TV packages.
Customers now have a choice of different packages and we’ve had a forum discussion about it.
    BT on the web
    New BT ads
Have you seen the new BT ads yet?
BT on YouTube has uploaded a few “behind the scenes” videos along with the actual TV ads.
Here’s one (The sound of reliability) that you can check out and see what all the fuss is about!
    BT Minis
The guys over at BT YouTube have also been busy putting together some short and light-hearted vidoes about BT Mobile.
One of the most searched topics this fortnight was...
    About Netflix!
As of last year, customers can add Netflix to their BT TV package as a “bolt-on”, as long as their TV pack is eligible. Information on this product is available here. Technical help is available in the Netflix Help Centre.
Forum feature of the week – Uploading images
As a BTCare forum member, you have access to an image gallery where you can choose to keep images private or public. You can add then these images onto a post.
It’s pretty easy to upload an image, and here’s how you can do it!
    That’s it for now…
We hope everyone has a great week, and we look forward to seeing you around the boards!

  • MSOutlook HTML newsletter issues - large gaps between large images and small gaps...

    Please can you help me!
Searched the web & found plently of advice but still getting formatting display issue when viewing HTML newsletter in MS Outlook.
Fully aware on the basics regarding the multiple issues when creating HTML newsletters but this is driving me crazy.
Apparently there is a image height limit within Outlook (can't find out what this is) so I have sliced my larger images into 5/6 parts which solves the display issue in Outlook.
But the gaps between the slices are now being displayed as small blank spaces within Hotmail.
I did use <br> between each slice as without caused the fixed 600px wide containing table to expand due to the slices stacking hoz.
Also still getting small gaps (like <br> spaces) between all images in Outlook when displaying perfectly (no gaps) in a browser.
This is my newsletter displaying correctly via a browser:
    http://eu.shorts.tv/site-admin/modules/mod_mail/SHORTSTV_DECEMBER_2012.htm
Using Dreamweaver 4 (do have the latest version via Adobe Creative Cloud Membership but not on this system).
    Hope you can help
    Many thanks

    Many thanks David
I also found this article which is currently sitting on my desk.
Pdf would make perfect sense or even a url link to view via a browser but these guys need it contained within the email.
Thanks again for your kind advice.

  • Newsletter issue revamp

O.K. so let's see if I can be more specific.
In the graphic of the newsletter we have inserted our web address to our store. The link works fine in the Pages program and attaches well to the emails but once sent the web address when clicked just shows you a larger version of the newsletter we created.
Any ideas? First to answer gets a free brownie point in computer heaven... I promise!

    www.renovareinteriors.com
When I paste your www.renovareinteriors.com into Apple Safari 3.0.2, what I in fact find myself looking at is http://www.renovare-interiors.com/
The WhoIs support in Apple Network Utility tells me your domain is registered with www.enom.com, and you would want to have a word them those people, presumably.

  • Newsletter Issue - 11x17 2 page layout problem

I am doing a 9 page layout. I want it to print on 11x17 (tabloid) paper to reduce the costs. So that's 2 11x17 double-sided and 1-LETTER size double sided pull out.
    The 9th page is a application & evaluation (pull-out).
I am having trouble finding the 11x17 size on the page set-up. Than once I get it all ready, I send it as a pdf to a copy center via email. So I need your help!

    Hi!
You can use a custom page size.
You have to set it up in the page-format-dialogue in the inspector/document.
Choose format and the then go to paper-format. Choose "custom" at the bottom of the list. You get a dialogue where you can define your own page-format. Click on the "+" set the page-size you want and define your borders. give it a name by doubleclicking the "unnamed" list-entry. Click okay.
Your custom format now shows up on the lower part of the list.
(The names can differ for i use a non-english system)
If the custom borders accord to the minimal technical borders of your printer you can insert paper of the specified size and print.
I used this for booklet 21*21 cm and it worked.
If you want printing a booklet that prints i.e. format A5 on a A4-sheet (page 1 right on the back, 2&3 on the front-side and page 4 on the left back) you need other software. I call to remember the name was "cocoa-booklet" (it has been mentioned several times in this forum).
If you want to printed it professional, simply print it as a .pdf and send it to the print-shop. They usually do the rest. But in this case you should be a bit familiar with cmyk-colouring and how to do this in pages (there are several threads here). If not, the colour of your prints you get can differ from the colours you have on screen (more then nessesary).

    A. Wolff

     BTCare Community Newsletter
    Issue 1
    What’s this, a new newsletter?
Yes, it is! We wanted to bring back the forum newsletter and share with you any forum-related news, with anything from board/structure changes to giving a shout-out to people who have been particularly helpful this week, and more.
    Speaking of forum changes…
As you will have seen from the front page of the forum, the Lounge and BT.com & Community have a new home (along with some name changes!) You can see the full details here.
Also, the Announcements section is getting an update! We've renamed it Announcements, Guides & Community Updates, and the purpose of this change is we very much want discussion about the community here.  In future you will find topics about changes to the community as well as handy guides on some fantastic community features.
By default, you can now post (and reply to posts) including this newsletter!
We hope that these changes give everyone a better opportunity to chat to us and the rest of the forum community.
Last but not least, BT Mobile has now been launched and has its own board – you can post any questions or comments here.
A lot of threads have already been answered, such as how you can download the BT Mobile app, and info on the spend cap to name a few, as well as lots of questions about 4G!
    And the award goes to...
Top solutions authored, and most kudos received: @imjolly
    Most kudos given: @licquorice
Well done guys! Who will reach the top this week?
    And the award goes to...
Unsurprisingly, there’s been quite a lot of discussion around BT Mobile since its launch last week.
One of the most talked-about topics last week was from existing BT Broadband Anywhere customers, and how they can avail of this new BT Mobile offer.
Thanks @Ribblelancs for kicking off the discussion.
One of the most searched topics this week was...
    How to self-install Infinity 2!
Searching the community is a great way to get the advice you need, as it has a wealth of information on this topic.
Advice is available here, along with a short video on how the self-install process works.
Forum feature of the week - @mentions
Did you know you can mention a fellow forum member in your post, and they’ll receive an email letting them know they’ve been named in your post?
This is a handy way of posting a reply to someone and making sure they don’t miss it. Just remember it only works when you’re using the Rich Text tab!
A handy step-by-step guide is now available here, along with how to manage @mention notifications.
    That’s it for now…
So if you have any comments or suggestions, do reply back to this thread with your feedback.
    Thanks for reading!

    Hi Guys,
Thanks for your feedback, not what we were hoping for but appreciate the honesty .
@licquorice -  You are right, when customers come to our forum it is generally to post about a problem they have so general chit chat is probably the last thing on there mind.  The newsletter is so that we can share community news with everyone so by spending two minutes reading this Newsletter a community member will have a sense of what is going on.  Discussion around the content of the newsletter is open and we would encourage it as it allows us to learn and know what to include next time, but I appreciate its not for everyone.  The fact that you have kicked us off with comments is exactly what we want so thank you for that.
@imjolly - Thanks for the comments.  We plan to highlight a community feature every week in the newsletter as there are some functions that are used very little, probably because no one knows about it.  If you decide to remove the @mention  notification and run into any issues please let me know and I will help you.  With regards to the 'Mentions' section, my apologies that we included you here without asking you first.  I know you don't help other customers for the purpose of being recognised for it but we figured it would be something nice to do as a way of highlighting your invaluable contributions.  However in hindsight we should have asked first, lesson learned, and I will make sure that you or anyone else is not included in this section without at least being consulted before hand.
Our community is a support based community so when members post here it is generally about a problem.  However, wouldn't it be nice if we did have some general chit chat taking place?  I mean there are many here that don't come to post about a problem but rather to help other members so this might be a nice change.  What do you think?
    Cheers
    Sean

  • Problem in sending buffered image to remote machine

iam able to capture ithe desktop screen as a buffered image by using buffered image class in java.awt.image.but iam bot able to send that buffered image to remote machine.it is only possible to send some part of that buffered image.but iam not able to transmit the whole buffere image of my desktop.can u help.

    Hi,
For this topic you should have a look ( 2004-07-08 The Java Specialists' Newsletter [Issue 091] )
from Dr. Heinz Kabutz. Indeed, the newsletter is quite useful and sometimes also amazing.
    I really enjoy reading it.
In this newsletter he is exactly doing what you wanted to know.
He uses an ObjectOutputStream, but compresses the screenshot beforehand as follows:
        import com.sun.image.codec.jpeg.*;
        Toolkit defaultToolkit = Toolkit.getDefaultToolkit();
        Rectangle shotArea = new Rectangle(
            defaultToolkit.getScreenSize());
        ByteArrayOutputStream bout = new ByteArrayOutputStream();
        JPEGImageEncoder encoder = JPEGCodec.createJPEGEncoder(bout);
        encoder.encode(robot.createScreenCapture(shotArea));
        return bout.toByteArray();Hope that helps

  • Recompressing PDF files?

I just got sent a bunch of PDF files (archived newsletter issues) for inclusion on a web page. Unfortunately, they were apparently converted using "High Quality Print" settings or some such, since many of them are 2 and 3 MB in size, obviously unusable by non-highspeed visitors.
Can these files be recompressed in a simple manner, or do I have to convert them back to print files (say, .doc) first, then re-re-converted using "smallest file size" settings? Several of the newsletters contain color pictures, but those I can leave large if I need to. There are about 3 dozen of these files, so obviously some kind of batch-process would be ideal...

Oops, sorry guys, I seem to have somehow wandered into the wrong forum - was meant to go to the Acrobat Windows page. My bad...

  • How to stop Verizon from treating non-spam e-mail as spam?

I subscribe to New Scientist magazine.  Along with this is the option to get a weekly e-newsletter from them.
I had set this up over two years ago, and I was successfully receiving these weekly e-newsletters.
All of a sudden, after the 9 Jan 2014 e-newsletter issue, I stopped receiving them.
I've been in contact with New Scientist, who assures me my account is properly configured to continue recieving these newsletters, and I have verified that my Verizon account is set up to accept these e-mails in the "Safe Senders" list.
But I still no longer receive these e-mails.
Has Verizon inadvertently added "newscientisit.com" as a source of spam?  If so, please correct this error.
I'm posting this here since I have not found a way to directly contact "support" with an e-mail.

How do you have the Verizon spam filter set?  Make sure you set it to save spam in a folder rather than deleting it.
Check that folder.  IF the newsletter is going there you can write a rule to allow a copy to be sent to you EVEN if the newsletter is still considered spam.  You should also mark the newsletter as not spam, and hopefully they will update it to stop flagging it.

  • Jinit or JRE version?

    Jinit or JRE version?
I am working on a large Forms, Reports & Discoverer 6i upgrade to 10.1.2.0.2 project.
We are unsure as to which JVM and which JVM version to put through our build process. User desk tops will be a mixture of NT and XP.
Reading the product statement of direction JRE would appear the way to go. Counter to that is our relative inexperience with the products, particulary on the OAS side and with JInit coming with the product it is also a strong contender.
Im looking for a recommended product and version. My initial leanings are towards
Oracle JInitiator 1.3.1.25(2) (Win32(1), based on JDK 1.3.x)

    Hi Aram,
How to find whether the oracle applications 11.5.10.2 is making use of oracle jinit or using JRE pluginPlease see
Script to find Apache, Java, Jinitiator, Forms version and JVM details for Oracle E-Business Suite 11i [ID 466890.1]
my jinit version 1.3 .If i upgrage jinit to jre plugin as like jinit download on clinet machine ,the same jre will also get >automatically downloaded to client machine from oracle apps yES.
That is why in step 2.2.1 OF doc 290807.1, we copy the .exe file to $COMM_TOP/util/jinitiator. So that the execuable can be downloaded from the server.

  • Newsletter Subscribe issue

    Hey Guys..
I have a newsletter subscription on one of my sites. Now i've removed the captcha from the form to only have name and email.
    The issue i have is that once you submit and subscribe it throws an error;
"Multiple requests per IP address are rate-limited for forms without a CAPTCHA. Please contact the site owner or try again later."
As far as I can see i've removed all captcha elements including the js from the form. But it gives me this and i'm not sure what it means.

Because you have removed the captcha the system falls back and has a rate limit on the number of submissions that can be made from the same IP in a short period of time.

  • Newsletter Template / Page set up for print

    Hi,
I'm in the process of creating a template for a newsletter, and am not sure how best to start with formating this template so it will be suitable for sending to a printers for a run of about 500 copies each time.
The newsletter will be A4 in size, and will consist of about 12 pages each issue.
Does that mean that I would create an A3 Pages document, and apply 2 pages of the newsletter to this, so it can be folded to create an A4 'book'?  Can Pages deal with auto page numbers like this?  Or am I pushing it too far?
Or, perhaps, should I just be creating each page on a single A4 page, and the printers will be able to produce the printed newsletter from this?
I know Pages isn't an ellaborate DTP application, but we're using it so it can be easily used by someone in our organisation.
    Any advice much appreciated.
    Thanks,
    c

Number one rule of commercial printing:
Speak to your printer BEFORE you do anything.
Your printer will tell you what their requirements are.
That almost certainly is not a Pages document and usually is not imposed.
Normally these days it is a pdf file in a format acceptable to the Printer, which is not easy with Pages/OSX.
    1. Pages/OSX does not produce pdfs conforming with the PDF/X standard required for commercial offset or digital printing
    2. Pages does not have bleeds or crop marks. You will have to construct those in oversize sheets (add an extra 10mm all round to do this)
    3. Pages does not have slugs to aid the printer in accurately positioning and controlling the printed sheets, you can add your own or find prebuilt pdfs or leave it to the Printer's imposition software to add.
    4. Pages/OSX does not use spot colors if you need those, but will let you add pdf elements that contain spot colors. This will produce more than the standard 4 cmyk plates, but not less.
    5. Pages/OSX reduce all transparency (other than vector) to an unacceptably low 72dpi when converting to pdf. This affects 3D graphs, shadows, reflections, Alpha Masks and bitmaps marked with less than 100% opacity or overlapping objects which have less than 100% opacity.
    6. Pages does not manage either resolution or cmyk well. Although this can be overcome with a great deal of manual work, it is very easy to miss exceptions and make mistakes because Pages does not flag problems nor allow systematic use of named accurate color samples/profiles.
A great many of the problems are due to the way has Pages been written but many others are due to what Apple has done/not done with OSX. There is other low cost software such as Swift Publisher which overcomes most (but not all) of the problems either internally or countering those in OSX.
The usual tools of the trade that do deliver accurate Print ready PDFs are Adobe Indesign and Quark Xpress. Both are expensive and require knowledge and skill to achieve accurate results.
It is normal to vet a pdf file through a program like Acrobat Pro to check for errors so that you can correct them before go to the very expensive press run.
There is only one low cost easy to use software that I currently know of that truly delivers on accurate commercial printing, that is Serif PagePlus X7 and unfortunately that is not available for OSX, but you can use it on a Mac running Windows in emulation.
    Peter
There is a website of a Pages user who has also written a book on how to use Pages for commercial print. Unfortunately I have had a good look at what he has written and, whilst he means well, he is that most dangerous, but popular, of advisors, one who knows a little bit more than those who know nothing. He tells the innocent user what they would like to hear, not what they need to know.

  • Spry Menu issues in Internet Explorer

I have created a Spry menu for my website and although the menu appears to look fine in Firefox and Safari, the formatting changes in Internet Explorer(IE).
1.sub menu bar is not dropping down below the main menu bar it is appearing at the top of the screen.
2.When you hover over the sub menu bar items the font should be white however in IE it is appearing as an aqua color.
3.The menu bar is not straight across the page, at the beginning and end there are chunks of the menu bar that appear white.
Are there any fixes for these issues that would help to make the menu look consistent across all browsers.  The website page is
www.applmgt.net/LMNtestpage/html, below is the code.  Any help would be appreciated as soon as possible.

Hi Nadia thanks for your help in trying to fix the spry menus.
I am new to Dreamweaver and therefore would appreciate a bit more help with the issues you identified.
I did replace the doctype. As for removing the menu from a table and putting it into a div, would you be able to identify in the code below how I would do that?  Thanks
