Newsticker in Xcelsius

Hello,
is there any possibility to insert RSS Feeds into Xcelsius Sheets, like Google News or similiar news providers?
I tried it out with "web connectivity" and then "reporting services". As "reporting services url" I' ve taken "http://news.google.com/". but after more than 45 min waiting I tend to say: it doesn't work like I did it.
There is also "http://www.shortnews.de/start.cfm?special=newsticker&type=flash_classic". They already have the code for a newsticker. However, I do not see the possibility to use it in Xcelsius because it is made for homepages.

Here a short description what I did :
In excel: xml-import: I put "http://themen.t-online.de/rss/wirtschaft" in the file name and clicked u201CImportu201D. Then I selected u201CA1u201D in the existing worksheet as the place to import it. I saved it as u201Ctestu201D; then closed it.
I opened xcelsius, clicked u201CImportu201D and chose u201Ctestu201D. After this, I clicked u201CDatau201D and u201CConnectionsu201D (it is like u201CStrg+Mu201D) and clicked u201CAddu201D. In this drop-down I have chosen u201CExcel XML Mapsu201D. Now, on the right side of this window appeared a tab set with definition and usage. In u201CDefinitionu201D stands u201CName: rss_Mapu201D and
u201CXML Data URL: http://themen.t-online.de/rss/wirtschaftu201D
In u201Cusageu201D I didnu2019t click anything. I closed. u2026now the problem: nothing appeared on the canvas!!!
Whatu2019s wrong?
Where do I get my news now? Whereu2019s my ticker? And what about SP1? How can I use it? Do I need it?

Refresh of Data in Xcelsius from Web Intelligence Results

Hello,
I am new to the forum but not to Business Objects/Xcelsius. I attended the SAP Sapphire Event last May and spent time in the Business Objects lab. Two Product Managers demonstrated how I would be able to refresh the data in an Xcelsius dashboard using Live Office by retreiving results from a Webi document without refreshing the Webi query.
For example, my Webi document contains 100,000 result rows. I want to be able to select a dropdown in my dashboard and have Live Office retreive only a subset of the 100,000 rows. This being done without having the Webi query being refreshed from the database. The Webi query would be refreshed nightly.
The Product Managers advised that this functionality would be available in Service Pack 3 or before. As of now I cannot find out how to make this work. Any help or information would be appreciated. Thanks.

WebIntelligence Input Controls are a way to enhance and customize user experience with report filters, they are therefore based on report filters and the feature is more focused on user interface & experience rather than exposition outside web intelligence.
Anyway, AFAIK, report filters are not available from Live Office report parts, you can only filter content with prompts, which requires the document to be refresh from the database, which has a direct impact on performance and scalability for consumers.
However, if you are with WebIntelligence XI 3.1 SP2 you have the alternative to publish from WebI Rich Client, report elements (any table or chart) as web services (called BI Services).
This tool is based on Qaaws technology, and share some of its features (main being that is uses the same Xcelsius Data Manager connection), it exposes a large part of WebI interactions to external consumers (esp. Xcelsius) : report filters, drill, prompts.
Besides this tool provides a set of call input parameters to tune web service consumption for best performance and scalability, enabling to leverage WebI document management features like scehduling, publishing and refresh, so consumers can balance performance with real-time data.
More information is available from WebIntelligence Rich Client user documentation from section sharing webi content with other web applications.
I recommend you install the latest fix pack (SP2.5 and above), as some initial fixes were required to ensure full compatibility with Xcelsius.

Open document issue using Xcelsius WIH 00013

All,
I have Open Document that behaves correctly when I copy and paste it into address bar of a browser. It also works fine when I try to connect from one Webi report to another (so far so good). But when I use the link in Xcelsius, via a URL component, I get the following message:
Invalid Session: Please close your browser and logon again. (WIH 00013)
Previous posts on forumtopics.com suggests that this is a Tomcat time out issue. However, other open document calls from other Xcelsius dashboards with open document work without issue. Has anyone seen this before? I have included the hyperlink text. Please note long prompt text is courtesy of a BEx query in BW .

The same settings in the infoviewapp web.xml must be applied on the opendocument web.xml. Also you must be on XI 3.1 FP1 or higher. There is currently an Edge issue being investigated.

List View in Xcelsius and truncated lines

Hi @ all,
I use a List View in Xcelsius 2008 and sometimes, when the text is longer
than the column width, unfortunately the text is truncated then.
Is it possible to have then automatically two lines if the text is longer than the column width?
That was the reason why I wanted to use the “Input Text Area”. But I cannot use
the Input Text Area if I have more than 1 destination cell.
Can you help me here?

You try to change or adjust the field lengths as shown below.
In properities of the list view you can see the Push button " Configure Columns" Then change the length of the fields as you like.

Error to install Xcelsius 2008 on Windows vista. Error 1935.

I have a big problem, I need install Xcelsius 2008 on Windows vista, but when I install the software apper the nex message:

From a brief Google search, I determined this error message is from Vista. It is not being produced by Xcelsius. You will need to do your own search and determine what is causing Vista to report this error. You can also try installing using instructions for Xcelsius installation on Vista posted elsewhere in these forums.

Xcelsius Dashboard on SAP R/3 Table using BSP and XML Mapping

Hi Experts,
I have developed a simple dashboard on small data set (10 records) that I am fetching from a R/3 Table into BSP and generating XML from there and consuming it in Xcelsius (SAP R/3 + BSP + XML Mapping).
Now I want to fetch data based on Variables values that should be passed from the dashboard at the runtime and should display the data accordingly. Any help on how it can be achieved?

Hi,
You could try doing this by using XML data connection. You would have to make use of Enable load to get the data from XML and Enable send to send data back to XML from dashboard.
This would require you to write a script.

Not able to refresh data in Xcelsius from BPC

Hi,
I have created a simple xcelsius dashboard with refresh button and data grid.
When I click reload in the preview mode am getting the log on screen where I am trying to connect to the address http://servername in the EPM connection.
But I am not able to log on with BPC user id and password.
am using BPC MS 7.5
please give me your expert advice.

Not able to see Data in Xcelsius 2008

Hi everyone,
My question is I am not able to see data in Xcelsius spreadsheet although I am able to connect to SAP BW and also able to see and select query but when I select Cross Tab Data in output Values it is not displaying in Xcelsius spreadsheet
System Info
Xcelsius 2008 Enterprise Trial Version SP 3.0
SAP BW 7.1 SP 6 ABAP and JAVA

Hi Rashid,
When you are using the BW conenction in Xcelsius you will not see any data in the spreadsheet at design time or at preview time.
To see the data you need to go SAP > Publish, then SAP > Launch to test the dashboard in the NetWeaver Portal as that is the only place where the data can be viewed.

Crystal Xcelsius 4.5 Designer

Now my question is, What is Crystal Xcelsius Designer? I can't find any product data sheet. I guess that Crystal Xcelsius Designer is the same as Crystal Xcelsius Workgroup Designer but with only One Developer License and One Viewer license? In other words, Crystal Xcelsius Designer is like Crystal Xcelsius Professional but with the Live data source connection? So the next question is, What is One Viewer License? Does that mean that if I show a Powerpoint presentation at a meeting, I can't Send that Powerpoint presentation to anyone, because they are not allowed to view it? Or how does this work? Please see previous comment regarding licensing. Also, Crystal Xcelsius Designer has additional components and functionalities, as well as connectivity to Live Data sources, than Crystal Xcelsius Professional.

Hi,
As of now in Xcelsius/Dashboard Design there is no feature or functionality to insert/update/delete data from database.
Solution:
Create a Web service in let’s say C# or Java, which will perform insert/update/delete operation.
In Xcelsius add Web Service connection and user above web service.
Xcelsius Web Service connection provides option to pass input values to a Web Service (Input Pane) and get the result (Output values pane).
We can pass values to be written to the database as a input to Web Service via Web Service connection from Xcelsius and write data to the database.
Note:
Performing delete operation from Xcelsius Dashboard could be risky and may delete important data from database. I would not prefer giving delete option/functionality in Xcelsius dashboard.

Problem in refreshing the data in Xcelsius

Hi,
I have added a refresh button in my dashboard to refresh the data from the BOE , but ones i click that button it ask for user authentication and ones i enter that and click ok nothing happens , the data is not getting refreshed.
In second case i made my data connection as refresh on load so as soon i launch my dashboard it ask for user authentication and after entering that details nothing happens and i am not able to see the data and even if i enter wrong details in the pop up window it does not gives any error message for wrong credentials.
Earlier i was getting the error like #2032 , #2017 so i maintained the crossdomail.xml file in web server it was resolved.
But i am not able to refresh the data nor i am getting any error message kindly suggest !!

Thanks for replying.
Step 1 : I have used a excel sheet using the live office connection and using the existing CR report from the BOE.
Step 2 : Then i have published that excel sheet in BOE
Step 3 : I have imported that spreadsheet in the Xcelsius and created a dashboard on top of that.
Step 4 : I have added a refresh button on the dashboard which is used to refresh the live office connection and the session URL that i have maintained is http://XXXC043A:8080/dswsbobje/services/session . i am not using the refresh on load option.
Step 4 : When i preview the dashboard with the preview button available in the Xcelsius i can see the dashboard with the existing data but ones i click the Connection refresh button a user authentication window pop up which ask for the system name user id and pwd and Authentication type . I used the Enterprise authentication for that but ones i submit the credential nothing happens even if i enter the wrong information no error message is prompted.

QaaWS not returning data in Xcelsius

My dashboard Data is not displayed in Xcelsius or InfoView and have encountered the error as below:
All of your system's 0 Concurrent Access Licenses are in use at this time
or your system's license key has expired. Try again later or contact your
administrator to obtain additional licenses. (FWB 00014)
I have tried to validate the Web service via the URL in browser :http://<server>:<port no>/dswsbobje/qaawsservices, same error has appeared in the browser.
I have applied the SAP Notes 1258052, the issue is still not resolved.
I have tried to use different user ID to the BOBJ Authentication screen prompt in the dashboard, however still got the same error.
System Information:
BOBJ XI R3.0
Xcelsius 2008 sp3
Please help and ur help is much appreciated.

Hi,
I do not know the content of the SAP Note you are referring to, but it seems you are encountering the usual pre-XI 3.1 issue of QaaWS.
Before XI 3.1, QaaWS management servlet used to connect to the CMS independently of consumers or any actual user connection (this was required to get QaaWS queries descriptions to generate WSDL files and some runtime parameters). To do so, QaaWS used a specific 'background' user, usually called QaaWSServletPrincipal, which, as any other user, eats up a license. If the number of available concurrent access license is low, this background user may drive you into that issue (error message tells by itself).
Ways to mitigate this are :
1. Increase the number of available license (self evident).
2. Use another 'background' user, this can be performed by changing configurations parameters in configuration file dsws.properties under ~<Application Server Folder>\webapps\dswsbobje\WEB-INF\classes : qaaws.principal.username and qaaws.principal.password parameters need to be changed to another user, in order to share the corresponding license (any user with at least view permissions over the CMS will do the job). Do not forget to restart app server after this change.
3. Update to XI 3.1, in that release & following, background user has been removed (for security reasons), WSDL data is managed differently.
4. When running CX dashboards from Infoview try (as recommended) to use serialized session information to connect QaaWS queries, so that consumer re-uses its own session to run the QaaWS query. Any other way of passing credentials (session token or login & password web service input parameters) to QaaWS queries will eat up a new license, and thus brings the risk of the error you have.

I have 12 month of data for 35 KPI in excel sheet which needs to be updated every month when new data comes.
I need to design a dashboard in xcelsius, can you please help me how can i design the architecture for this dashboard so that when excel sheet will be updated every month then data automatically refresh in dashboard.

Visualizing MII data in Xcelsius / Flash

I am visualizing some MII data using Xcelsius 2008. For the most part I have been successful, particularly when visualizing within an MII session. However there are some cases where my users will encounter a Flash error #2048, which is related to some security within Flash that will not allow cross-domain access to data.
You may ask, if you are within the MII environment why would it be cross domain. Well, as it turns out Flash does not use a very complex mechanism for determining the domain, if the shortcut that my users use to access MII is
http://<server>:50000/MII
instead of
http://<server>.<domain>.<company>.net:50000/XMII
Flash thinks that this is a cross-domain call if the URL embedded in Xcelsius uses the fully qualified domain name.
While I could send out new shortcuts to everyone, there are other issues. And some future initiatives that may require cross-domain calls.
When Flash encounters a cross domain call, it looks for a policy file on the root of the datasource called crossdomain.xml which may look something like

There are some SDN posts detailing how to get this file into the root on an ABAP WAS, however nothing about how to do it on a Java only server. It would need to be accessible at:
http://<server>.<domain>.<company>.net:50000/crossdomain.xml
I realize this post crosses several different SAP technologies, any help would be appreciated, or direction on where I should post this.

I am glad that I found this thread, because I needed to put a custom crossdomain.xml file in the root folder of a NetWeaver Application Server (Java) CE 7.2, so that an external Adobe Flex application could call some web services of the MII instance that resides in this NetWeaver AS. This thread gave me a good start point for investigation and tests.
In my case, I had to add the crossdomain.xml file to this jar file:
<drive letter>:\usr\sap\<SID>\J17\j2ee\cluster\apps\sap.com\tc~je~crossdomain~xml~app\servlet_jsp\crossdomain.xml\root\WEB-INF\lib\ tc~je~crossdomain~xml~web_api.jar
I renamed the original crossdomain.xml file that was in the jar file and replaced it with the custom crossdomain.xml file. This made the call to [http://<servername>:<port>/crossdomain.xml] on a browser bring my custom crossdomain.xml file .
I just found it curious that this seemed to be required specifically for the crossdomain.xml file to be on the root (from the file caller's perspective). For any other files to be on the root (from the file caller's perspective), this is the folder which the files have to be copied to:
<drive letter>:\usr\sap\<SID>\J17\j2ee\cluster\apps\sap.com\com.sap.engine.docs.examples\servlet_jsp\_default\root

About the number of rows used to map data in Xcelsius

Hi Everyone:
I am using web services to fetch data into Xcelsius. The information I got from web service will increase in time and what I suppose is when I run out of rows to get all data I must open my Xcelsius model and select a greater range of rows on each component to get all the data that the web service is bringing.
Is there an alternative to avoid modifying ranges of data in crontrollers when rows mapped are not enough for the data you are fetching from a web service?
It is a bit confusing, I hope I've been clear enough. I really really will appreciate your opinions. If possible give me technical explanations.

What you suggested is exactly what I am doing now, and also I increased the number of rows allowed to map en Xcelsius which are 512 by default.
I would like to know now, how many rows are advisable to increase? Because I am using some components and you must specify for each one a certain number of rows.
I test mapping 3000 and even 6000 rows but the model is too slow and I was not able to export the swf file in any format.
