Newton 130 Batteries

I have revived the trusty MessagePad 130 and i need new main AA rechargables.
What's the best for this model? The backup battery is shot too...
I have the original charger, dock etc...

I have tried a bunch of different NiCad batteries that i can charge externally with a charger... but it would be nice to charge them internally when i plug in the Newton power brick. Also i have a nice cradle that charges a second set of batteries at the same time! Thought it would be a case of matching the same type....
Can this be done?
Wondered if that was what you were asking originally. Yes you can use the built in charging circuit in your Newton but you have to trick it into thinking it has an Apple pack installed. If you look at the battery compartment you will see a plastic tongue in the middle of the compartment.
If you lift that you will see a little plastic dimple, if you press down on this it will turn on the charging circuit. What Apple did was take 4 AA nicads and stick them together with a metal plate. This effectively pressed down on the dimple and allowed the pack to charge. A piece of Duct tape or if you want a metal plate that can press down on this switch will solve your problem.

  • Applescript to print from Safari to a pdf in one click...

    Hi
I am only just getting down to writing Applescripts.
Has anyone got any idea on how to create an Applescript that can be used from within Safari 'to print to pdf'? One where perhaps the date and time are used as the name of the new file that is created and saved in a named folder.
    Thanks
    Jai

This is not exactly the solution -
Apple-P for the print dialog, pull down PDF menu in lower left corner, save PDF to web receipts will save the print preview into that folder in your documents.
I guess you can step into this script (located in user/library/PDF services) and configure it to your needs?

  • Folder action to change the label of the folder

    Hi all
I would like to use Automator/Folder Actions to set the Label of the folder to show that it contains a file that was created or modified as follows:
Red if in the last three days,
Orange if over three days but less than seven; and
Yellow if over seven days but less than fourteen
Oh, and clear the folder label if the contents of the folder are over fourteen days old.
Is it possible to do using Automator and folder actions?
    Thanks

    In Automator-No
The trigger for folder actions to run is the act of adding a file/folder to the folder which has the action applied. If you don't add anything, they won't do anything.
You could probably get close to what you want using Smart Folders. It won't be color-coded or perfect though because modifying a file doesn't always reflect on the modification date of the folder. And parent folders are not affected by changes made in sub-folders.

  • Is there a way to reset the password on a Newton Message Pad 130?  I forgot my password.

I have an old Newton Message Pad 130.  I forgot my password and need to find a way to pull some travel journals off my Newton.  Is there a way to reset the password without erasing the data?

  • Alert (260000,130) The serial number you entered cannot be verified....

I have an MBP and just bought a MacBook 2 today. I bouth AppleCare Protection Plans for both and am attempting to register them. I know where to find the serial number, that's not the issue, the issue is that the serial numbers are not being accepted for either computer! I get the following error on both:
Alert (26000,130) The serial number you entered cannot be verified. Please check the product's serial number and enter it again. Or, call Apple for assistance....
We've checked the serial numbers in the About This Mac in both, the serial numbers under the batteries, entered and re-entered them several times, and continue to get the same message. I found one posting on the forums from a person that experienced this with their iPod and the community told them they were crazy, I'm hoping someone can give me a little more direction than that...
    Thanks,
    JAB*

To make sure that you are not mis-reading the serial number, use keyboard copy and paste to enter the serial number in the form.
Click the blue apple, click About this MAC, click more info
Highlite the serial number (put cursor before the first number, press and hold the click button and move the cursor to the right until the whole number turns blue. Release the click button. Press and hold the Command button (left of space bar) and then press and release the C key. Release the Command button.
Go to the form where you want to insert the serial number and place the cursor at the beginning of the field. Press and hold the Command key. Press and release the V key and the copied text will be inserted into the field. Release the command key.
For those of you that think that this is a Windows procedure, it's not. It goes back to Wordstar on a CP/M system running on an Intel 8080 processor at 2 MHZ.

  • Batteries are no good

I have had my Shuffle for less than a year and already the batteries seem to have a problem. After I charge it for different periods of time (overnight, 2 hours, 1 hour, 5 hours) it always goes dead after about 1-2 songs and the little battery indicator light on the back doesnt even work. I mean I didnt pay $130 to listen to one song every 4 hours. Does anyone have any reccomendations???
    thanks

I agree. Have Apple send you a replacement iPod Shuffle.

  • Apple Newton Won't Charge

I just sold this apple newton on Ebay and I went to go test it before shipping, and now it won't charge the new refurbished battery pack I got for it. It says "Fault" instead of "Charging". A window popped up saying the newton was receiving too much power. Is it likely that my factory power supply has gone bad, or is it probably an issue with the rebuilt battery?

I just had the same problem with my newly attained eMate, I'm a returning Newton OS user.
What happened was the same fault issue is that game me the same popup alert saying it was getting too much power. I used a third party party adapter that came with a MessagePad 2000 which worked fine with it, but when I used it on the eMate, it gave me that fault and error message. The eMate with the Newton adapter it came with gave me a great battery charge of 8 hours, but when I used the third party adapter, 9V, it like confused the battery and lasted only about an hour or less.
Then I used that third party adapter with the MessagePad again and it would restart the MP and eventually NOT turn on again! I was puzzled so I left the MP2K unplugged overnight with worn out battery also removed. Then I took that 3rd party adapter and plugged it in, and restarted and all is fine.
If you are using a Newton OEM power adapter, maybe it went bad, try using another one. But then again, maybe the batteries they used for the new refurbished battery require that sort of overnight power resetting if thats what its called.
I'm just sharing my experience so that it may help you in someway.

  • IPhone limited to 130 apps at a time! 6,200 apps available in app store

The i phone is limited to nine app screen i notice this when i try to move on to a tenth screen and it would not let me and also when you download a app after all 9 screen are full the app dose not show up but the app store says it is installed apple needs to expand the amount of screen allowed. you then end up having to delete 2 apps download 1 app in able to make the invisible app appear you have to try this one out for your self so you get a better idea of what i mean so it looks like we are limited to 144 apps per iPhone subtract 14 apps that come default on the screen not including the 4 that are on the bar below you are left with 130 apps that can be downloaded and use at a time per i phone that ***** there are over 6,200 apps available in the app store as i type this to you and apple is limiting me to only carry 130 at a time there is somthing worng with this and i think somthing should be done!

No acutally what that means is most people like myself have to install 30 apps just to get the iphone to do half the things it should have done out of the box. Sure some are wants but most are "need" in order for it to do the things my old palm treo 600 could do, and still there's not copy and past and no video. On top of that they have a stupid 130 limit. I'd love to hear why that is.

  • New to the Apple 'Newton' Messagepad 2100/2000 Can Some One Help?

So I've just recently discovered the world of the Apple Messagepad. I've been searching for a while now for a pda that best suites my interests and needs. When I came across this old ad for the Messagepad I totally got excited as I love Apple products and seriously loved the look and features that the device boasted. So - now I've put some bids on a couple of 2100 models on ebay and am waiting, I've also found some resellers, I'm definitely going to get a hold of one of these devices. I've done some research on the devices and am concerned mostly with the just how difficult it will be to install software and/or upgrades onto the device from my G5 Powermac. Is there anyone out there with advice and/or suggestions for this Newton Newbie? Any info you can offer me about anything having to do with Messagepads would be surely helpful.
    Thanks.

Welcome to the world of the Newt!
In addition to the links already posted you will really need to look carefully at www.unna.org - specifically the wikiwikinewt which is a goldmine of information. Also after reading that if you have any questions you can post them on www.newtontalk.net.
To get going on the install of software you have to overcome the "bootstrapping" problem (see wikiwikinewt). If you don't have access to someone with a Newt (you can then use iRDA) or can't get hold of a PCMCIA card from another Newt owner, then you will need a serial cable setup + a serial/USB adapter + a dongle for the Newt. The dongle adapts the Newt connector to the old Mac serial cable and the adapter makes it possible to connect to the latest Macs (this is what I use) (Keypsan produce a good adapter).
    Good Luck!

  • Square root of an interval using Newton's method

    Hello!
I am trying to create a method that calculates the square root of an interval, and I am having trouble with both the actual calculation part, as well as the base case for the recursion. I implemented a simple counter for the recursion, but was not seeing any kind of pattern for the values. (I am pretty sure the "better" values should converge to 0).
I was wondering if anybody wanted to take a swing at it and help me out. :)
Here is the code for my program, followed by the code for Newton's method for calculating square roots of doubles. I am supposed to use it as a reference.
I made the simple arithmetic methods with the help of http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Interval_arithmetic . They seem to work fine, so I am having issues with troubleshooting!
    Thanks!

Are you sure it shouldn't be step(y, better) or step(better, x))? Newton-Rhapson is supposed to be a progressive method, but as far as I can see the value of y can never change with the way you've got it. And if you've copied that to your new code, it might explain the problem.

    Dear Folks,
    Here is a scenario,
I have created a wage type , the amount of this wage type is add to /130 & /416 . I have written a pcr and the amount of same is adding in /130 &/ 416  but while exeucting the payroll for next month, amount stored in /130 & /416 of this wage type is not reflecting (adding)
    Anyone please guide me further.
    Regards,

    Thanks for your respnose!
I am using It15 for making payment of Grautity with a logic that the amount of this wage type will add in /130 for exemption. But in current month it is working fine but while executing payroll for next run the amount stored in /130 is not reflecting hence impact also happened /416.
Do correct me where i did mistake, my pcr is as follows:

  • How to connect a plasma panel digitally to Qosmio F10-130

    Hi,
I just orderer the F10-130 and I would like to connect my plasma panel with a digital video signal. The monitor has a DVI input, and the F10 has a so-called "D-Video out" interface that I've never seen before. What's the best way to connect the two devices? I know that VGA Sub-D or S-Video should work, but IMHO this is not state of the art. Does an adapter D-Video to DVI exist?
    Regards,
    Marsu
[Edited by: admin on 14-Mar-05 21:12]

    Hi marsu
D connector port on Qosmio you can connect to SCART port on TV. The cable is provided with Qosmio notebook. Sorry but I think there is no possibility to connect it to DVI port on your TV.
Only thing that you can do is to ask some experts in electronic store if there is some solution for this issue.

  • How to change the batteries on a palm m125 without having to do a hard reset

Some palm m125's are defective meaning that when one changes the AAA batteries one is presented with a no way out question on whether yes to hard reset or no to not hard reset, yes it's true that what i mean by no way means that even a soft reset will NOT make it work again, hope you just did a backup right.. oh! and this will prob. only work if you have enough battery power to keep the unit on: ie: around 5% battery...
Anywhoo I have found a workaround for this bug or so that may help you, please read below on how to hopefully preserve the data on your handheld's m125 hardware without this hard reset lockup...
Note: Testing with rechargeables in (Maxxus 1100 mah) and then put in alkalines = mixed results :/, but alkalines out then new ones in should work fine..
    Okay - fairly simple - Let's start:
A: Turn on the unit - yes u heard me turn the unit ON
    B: Flip the unit over
C: While the unit is ON take out the top battery first and replace it as fast as you can with the newer one and make sure it is in before doing the next step...
D: now do the bottom battery...
E: turn the unit on by pressing the power button
Result: If all goes well, u'll see the palm logo and then it should show the prefs screen of which you've successfully saved all ur user data. - What it did was a soft reset.
So far with alkalines i've had nothing but success - if anyone out there owns a m125 as well and can confirm that this tip works, please post to let others know ur success or unsuccess of trying out my tip..
My Test Results Tested on Factory State unit (Hard Reset Unit ):
Alkalines -> Alkalines = 99% (if done correctly) = Pretty Safe*
    Alkalines -> Rechargeables = 50% (if done correctly) = Warning/Caution
Rechargeables -> Alkalines = Not Consistant enough to measure (if done correctly) = Very Risky
*If ur unit stills asks on Alka to Alka then Just maybe a software program is now causing it to ask for a hard reset as I'm still testing this.
If method One does not work out, I've also tried the following with success esp. on Rechargeables -> Alkalines, but this will requre more work and a more steady hand...
    A: Turn the unit ON
B: Press and hold DOWN button
C: While holding the Down button, take out the TOP battery first and replace it, DO NOT let go of the down button on the handheld
D: Now replace the BOTTOM battery
E: Let go of the Down Button
    F: Press the on button
If all goes well you will see the palm logo meaning that it just did a soft reset, but ur data should still be intact, With method 2 I was able to get a more success rate. , But I am still testing on when the unit is fully loaded, etc.. as these tests were done on a hard reset unit. You can also try holding the up button instead of the bottom one for a method 3. Again anyone out there with success or unsuccess stories - please tell as i'd like to hear your expierence with my findings here.

    Hi
Im using fireworks to put it all together visually and mechanically
and then I'd like to export it to dreamweaver
This is a bad idea, and will only create problems further down the line. For the correct way to do this see -
http://www.adobe.com/devnet/dreamweaver/articles/dw_fw_css_pt1.html there are 3 parts to this tutorial series.
As for the effect you wish, (no full page load) this is known as ajax and if you are new and using dreamweaver then the spry framework is probably the easiest to learn, see http://www.webmonkey.com/2010/02/build_ajax_components_with_spry/, your dreamweaver documentation also contains a description of how to use Spry, the full Spry documentation and examples are available at - http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/spry/home.html.

  • Satellite U300-130 - TosBtMng has stopped working after Nokia PC Suite installation

I've got the same problem too... with Toshiba Satellite U300-130.
Bluetooth had worked pretty well before I installed Nokia PC Suite for my mobile on my PC (the newest version 7.1.26.0 from website).
To be correct, at first I even managed to maintain a Bluetooth connection between PC and Nokia and ran syncronisation of contacts. I made several attempts but each time syncronisation run ended with message "PC coudn't get answer from your Nokia".
After rebooting, my PC went crazy and started issuing message "TosBtMng has stopped working" and it restarted every time I ask it to close.
Installation of new version of BT Stack (6.40) didn't fix this error.
    Please help

    Hi there
I answered an existing thread with the same problem, but no-one can help apparently.
Anyway,,, I can at least help you with getting rid of the looping setup. You need to rename the directory with the Toshiba bluetooth stack.
I also have Nokia syncing and it worked fine until recently. - I have to say I think the problem relates to a Windows auto upgrade.
How to solve this is a different matter. At this moment I have given up. The Toshiba bluetooth stack disabled.
