Next podcast starts automatically

On my new iPod nano (3rd Gen), when one podcast finishes, the next edition of that podcast starts automatically, if I have more than one edition of a podcast. On my old iPod 5G, I'd be able to choose the podcast I wished to listen to after one finished. This is important, because my sync settings are based on podcasts that have been played and I don't want to lose podcasts that "play" inadvertantly.

Different iPods work differently in this regard, and the fact is that, whichever way Apple uses for a new iPod model, they inevitably get a bunch of complaints from people wanting the other way. I guess they could make it user-configurable, but I think Microsoft already owns the patent on Too Many Preference Options No One Understands (TM).
You might try stopping playback a few seconds before the end of a podcast to make sure you don't start playing the next one by accident. Of course, you can always right-click/control-click in iTunes and choose "Mark as New" if you make a mistake.

  • No blue dots to show unplayed podcasts on my nano and next podcast starts

Since updating the software I no longer have blue dots to show me unplayed podcasts plus the next podcast in the series starts automatically like an album which is not what I want. Can I fix this?

Look in iTUnes and make sure the podcast are listed under "Podcast" in the source list to the left. If they are set the iPod to either "Auto update all podcast" or "Auto update selected podcast" whichever you choose. Disconnect the iPod, reboot the PC. Reset the iPod by holding center and menu for about 6 to 10 sec. Once the iPod has been reset and PC rebooted, connect the iPod let iTunes open and see if it now updates the podcast to your iPod

    Hi Pavan,

I want to know when to repeat a subsequent a process in process chain and when the subsequent process starts automatically?</i>
Subsequen process runs automatically .. always the subsequen process waits for the predecessor to finish and the subsequen process starts.. abt the Repeat process chain ...
When .. when ur loading fails due to some reason.. but u can repeat that Execute IP process type by right clicking on the process type and click on the repeat process and it will ask u to start in how many seconds u can give ur tiem there .. if u want immediatly u can just give 0 seconds..

  • How can you automatically start the next Podcast?

When an audiobook finishes, the next audiobook automatically. How can I get podcasts to do the same? I listen on bike rides and it is difficult to have to switch to the next podcast.

    Hi
    Welcome to Apple discussions.
2 options (neither of which are particularly great)
First - drag the relevant podcasts into a playlist in iTunes, sync your iPod and then off you go!
Second - Create an on the go playlist of the relveant episodes on your iPod.
I think the thinking behind this is that Apple assume people only have one podcast at a time to listen to i.e. one a day/ week etc. You are right though, it would be nice just to have a preference to set to do what you want.
You should leave your feedback here:

  • Playing next podcast automatically

I have a lot of short podcasts and I want the next one to start as soon as the previous one in the list finishes.
I can't find a setting to achieve this - is it possible?
    Cheers

Why did Apple in their wisdom(??) decide to change this function (it used to work just fine)?
Why would they think that people want to be reverted back to the main menu and not hear the next Podcast??
Do they consider having to try and navigate back while your driving a leap forward?
Why would you turn around and make this hard to use??
And having to make a Smart Playlist is stupid...it makes the Podcast Category on iTunes useless and redundant.
I had the opinion that Apple was better than Micro$oft, that's why I made the leap but now I don't know...
99% of users want the function (to play Podcasts automatically and last episode first) back....what are they basing their decisions on certainly not us the users.
Does Apple EVER respond to these forums???

  • Playlist of Podcasts does not automatically move to next Podcast

Creating a Playlist of Podcasts does not appear to work the same as a Playlist of music. For Music, on the iPod i go to Playlists menu, and from there, with a particular playlist selected, i press Play on iPod, and the Playlist starts, and it says 1 of 100 (or whatever). With a Playlist of Podcasts, does not appear to me to behave in same way. From the Playlist menu, if i press Play on the iPod with the Playlist name selected, it does not start. I must press center button on the iPod to go down to the actual list of Podcasts in the Playlist. Then, i can select one to play. When it plays, its says 1 of 1. And, it does not move to the next Podcast when the first Podcast finishes.
Can somebody help me out? Is there a way to create an actual Playlist of Podcasts that plays one after another, just like a Playlist of music cuts? Am i missing something? Its real tough in the car to select a new Podcast when one finishes, so i had hoped this problem was solved by making a Playlist of Podcasts, but so far it appears to me to not be solved. Thank you. Tom.

Just for anybody else's info if you read this, it was only necessary to turn shuffle off on the iPod. Didn't have to check/uncheck any other checkbox. This was great! Thanks for the pointer!

  • HT5295 How can I stop the auto play feature automatically playing/streaming the next podcast?

How can I stop the auto play feature automatically playing/streaming the next podcast?

    Hi there.
I listened to podcast there were two things I found that helped me out. Both we're in the podcast app itself.
Firstly change the default sorting order. When looking at the list off episodes a available on your ios device tap on the description part at the top, this will bring up the settings for that podcast (subscribe mark as played etc) scroll to the Bottom and select oldest first. This will mean that if you are listening to the latest download it will stop at the end as there will be no more to play.
Secondly, and useful if listening to older podcasts in the list, you can use the timer to stop once the current episode has ended. To do this when you are in the podcast playback screen slide the "album artwork" up, revealing the playback options and nifty tape playing animation this is where you adjust playback speed and set a timer. The timer has a number of options to set playback to stop after set amount of time. However one of these options is to stop once the current episode you are listening to ends. This can also be current chapter if the podcast you are listening to supports chapters.
Hope this helps, if not clear let me know

  • Ipod Nano 7th Gen - Is it possible to prevent next podcast episode from played episode from playing automatically ?

I have had an Ipod Nano 3rd generation for years. I mostly listen to Podcasts while walking and like to be able to select the sequence in which I listen to them. This was possible by selecting the shuffle option on the 3rd generation Nano.  I have just purchased the 7th generation Nano and much to my disappointment I can't see any option to prevent Podcasts from automatically playing the next episode. This seems like a really backward step compared to the 3rd generation model. Does anyone know if it is possible to prevent next Podcasts from being played automatically with the new Ipod Nano 7th generation ?

Perhaps somebody else has figured it out, but I haven't been able to on my 7G Nano. Not without putting each podcast into a separate playlist and then syncing those playlists over to your Nano. Some people like that it continues to the next podcast automatically where as others like that it stops after each episode.

  • ITunes 10., dont starts automaticly & video-podcasts only sound works ???

Upgrading to iTunes 10.1 on my MBP (MacOS 10.6.5) i got two problems:
first, itunes dont starts automaticly anymmore, when connecting iPhone 3GS(iOS 4.2.1). Starting Itunes manually, iPhone-sync starts and works well??? The "dont sync automaticly"-button in iTunes setup is not set!
sec.: iTunes 10.1 dont play videopodcasts anymore. Only sound is o.k. The podast itself is o.k.and vissibale with other tools and after syncing, iPhone shows them, too.
    Any Tips?
    greetings to all
    A. Gehrmann

Mine did something very similar - when I tried to search, I got a message saying that it couldn't contact the iTunes Store. I uninstalled it and reinstalled it, and afterwards it worked, but the fix might have had nothing to do with that uninstall/reinstall. I wasn't able to contact the iTunes Store through my iPod either, and that didn't work for a while even after the reinstall. Then eventually it ran correctly as well.
I'm inclined to believe that there was something wrong at iTunes, not on my end. Have you tried again recently? Hopefully it'll be working again, like mine is.

  • Podcasts Play Automatically - Why?

I hate that since the last update, when a podcast episode finishes playing, it starts the next episode automatically.
How do I stop this? Ive turned off shuffle and the other thing that loops.

I agree this is a problem for me as well - not only the fact that it plays the next episode, but the default sort order is from newest to oldest.
I listen to podcasts in chronological order, and therefor as a show ends it starts playing the previously aired (older datetime stamp) than the one I just listened to.
Is their some way to either:
    - Turn off the "auto play next podcast"; or
    - Change the sort order of the podcasts from oldest to newest (not I have it sorted this way in iTunes but the setting doesn't transfer - same issue as the ipod 5G).

  • My iTunes v.10.6.3.25 is intermittently refusing to open. Sometimes re-booting my laptop works, sometimes not. I just put the computer to sleep, and when I woke it up, iTunes started automatically. Any thoughts?

My iTunes v.10.6.3.25 is intermittently refusing to open. Sometimes re-booting my laptop works, sometimes not. I just put the computer to sleep, and when I woke it up, iTunes started automatically (I had been trying to open it just before by clicking on a song file in my Documents window, and that's the song that started playing when the pc woke up). I went to my iTunes Help and clicked Updates/download iTunes 10.7 twice, but got nothing. Now, Im wondering if I should downloacd the entire 10.7, or whether that would overwrite all my files, erasing my songs. Anybody know? Thanks.

    Hey thanks for replying.
    Here's what I did:
First I tried the Winsock reset in the Command prompt. Nothing changed.
Next, I tried the instructions on http://http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4123. The only other program that came up on the 'Winsock Providers' tab on the program was 2 Windows Live applications, which I can do without. So I deleted all Windows Live Applications.
I did the Winsock reset in the Command Prompt again and rebooted my comp.
Unfortunately, nothing has changed. iTunes keeps freezing at various stages of the sync, then shows the candy cane-striped bar with either the words 'Finishing sync' or 'Cancelling sync', before showing the Apple logo.
Sometimes, iTunes gets to the syncing stage - "Copying # of ####" - where it will trudge through the first, second and third tracks before flashing "Copying 4 of ####" for a split second and I catch "Cancelling sync" briefly before the Apple logo appears.
Again, I've repeated the steps I mentioned in my previous post. Does ANYONE know when the new version of iTunes is set to be released?! This one is driving me INSANE, to say the least!!

  • Panel does not start automatically in Gnome 2.24.3

Since Gnome 2.24.3, the Gnome Panel does not start automatically.
I had to manualy add it to the startup group via "Sessions" in order to force it to start when login finishes.
Does anybody has the same behavior?
Should I report it as a bug?

That may be true but it is a real pain since when it happens the only way to recover is to terminate all of the iTunes modules with task manager and start it manually. It also leaves the IPOD in a state that says do not disconnect. You can disconnect since nothing is really happening but there is no excuse for this not to start much faster. When you have multiple users it is a real pain. It ought to be able to either end when finished or better yet allow multiple users simultaneously updating from different libraries.
I guess i will just have to get in the habit of treating it as a single user and start and stop it every time I need it and be suer not to let it run. Not nice because that means waiting for larger Podcast downloads instead of having there ready for me when I sign on my computer.

  • Service Station does not start automatically

    Good morning,
recently the Toshiba Service Station application does not start when Windows (8.1) starts. If I launch the application manually, it runs normally.
I would like to restore the automatic start of that application. What can I do?

    Hi
You can add the application (service station) to the Win 8.1 startup.
    Go to the Start screen
Click on the down arrow to show all your applications
Right click on the application you would like to have start automatically.
    Select Open file location
This will bring up the location (url) where the program is started
    Right click and select Copy
On your computer, from the same Explorer window, go to:
    C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Window s\Start Menu\Programs\Startup
Note: USERNAME must be replaced by the name of the user that is logging in.
    Then select Paste Shortcut
After that, the next time you log on, that program will start automatically.
