Next / Previous media keys don't work on 3rd Party Keyboard, Play/Pause does work. [MAC]

Hello!
So I am using a Logitech G710+ keyboard with my Mac (running 10.9) , and the media keys (Play/Pause, Stop, Next and Previous) work perfectly fine with iTunes, even in background.
Now, when I use Spotify, I usually quit iTunes (to stop conflicts), but only the Play/Pause key seems to work.
It does work in the background, which is good, but crucially the Next / Previous keys don't work at all.
Any ideas?

So I have the exact same issue as everyone else here.  I have a Logitech K750 wireless keyboard running Yosemite on my MBP. I don't necissarily think this issue resides with Spotify, but instead with Logitech.  If I use the media keys on my MBP I am capable of using Next/Previous even when Spotify is in the background.  On the wireless keyboard only Play/Pause and the Volume buttons work.  I think the issue is with the key mapping with the Logitech. Then again, I don't know how the code is written.  Maybe Spotify missed an alternative key map for the media buttons.  I didn't write the code.... The logitech forum is a ghost town for this issue though.  Only post I found was 5 years old. EDIT: With further reasearch I DO believe the problem lies with Spotify.  A tech for Logitech explained to me that Spotify wrote some "interesting" code for the keymap functionality for its Mac client.  A quick Google search shows that it is not only Logitechs experiencing this issue.  It would be great if we could get someone to look into this.  It isn't critical, but it sure would be nice to get fixed.

  • Dell laptop media keys don't work with iTunes 7.x

After installing the most recent version of iTunes (7.3), my media buttons on the front of my Dell Precisions M90 no longer work, unless iTunes is the active program. Same thing happened with my other Dell laptop. Anyone have a fix for this?

This has also happened to me. Any way to fix it?

  • IOS6 Headset / Headphone "Skip to the next chapter" & "Return to the previous chapter" functions don't work in the Music App

"Skip to the next chapter" & "Return to the previous chapter" functions don't work in the iOS 6 Music App when listening to Podcasts and Audiobooks through Headsets (Apple & 3rd party), Speaker Docks, and in my autos handsfree bluetooth system (Ford Sync).
Listening with the Podcasts App allows "Skip" and "Return" to work. So, this is either a bug or Apple is forcing the use of the Podcast App to get the "Skip" & "Return" controls. All the other headset functions work as designed.
I listen to news Podcasts in chronological order. In iTunes I set up smart playlists sorted by release date for the podcasts. The Podcast App doesn't support playlists therefore I need to use the Music App.
Is anyone able to get "Skip" and "Return" to work in the Music app?
    Thanks for any insight!

  • Arrows and page up/down keys don't work (also not in previous version)

Arrow and page up/down keys don't work. Problem started a fe2w months ago; upgraded to Beta but it made no difference. Sorry to report that they work fine in Internet Explorer but i DO NOT want to switch. Thanks!

    IU'm curious if this is a 'getting used to Macs' issue;
I'm on my first Mac [and OS X] as well, and to
me tthese friggin keys "don't work" either.
That is, they do not do anything useful, like
go to the start or end of a text field. The
keys do function, though. Home goes to the start
of a document, and end goes to the end. Seems
silly to me; how often do you go to the start
or end of a document, versus the start or end
of a line? Two points off your usability rating,
    Apple
Anyways, if this [the keys doing different things
under Mac] is the issue, see if Apple-Left Arrow
and Apple-Right Arrow do what you're expecting
    Home and End to do.

  • What can I do if my function keys don't work correctly?

QuestionWhat can I do if my function keys don't work correctly?
AnswerFunction keys can mean a few different things. You might be having a problem with the F-keys near the top of your keyboard (F1, F2, etc.), the secondary functions of the F-keys (toggling the wireless or touchpad, for example), or special media keys on your laptop.
There are a few steps you can take to try to resolve these issues. Try the suggestions listed below in the order presented. If a step fixes the problem, you're done! If a step doesn't fix your problem, continue to the next step.
    Understand the FN key
First, ensure you understand how to use the FN key. In most newer models, the special utilities of the F-keys are used when you press the F-keys. To use the F-keys, you need to hold FN first. In older models, this was reversed. pressing the F-keys activated the F-keys. The special utilities of the F-keys are used while holding FN. If you're having trouble using your F-keys, try both with and without the FN key.
Reinstall TVAP or Toshiba Flash Cards Utility
Some models may use the Toshiba Value Added Package or the Toshiba Flash Cards Utility. Check the support site to see if these utilities are available for your model. If you see either listed, download and install it. Some models don't use these utilities; it's okay if you don't see either of them.

  • Media keys fail to work for logitech g35

My favorite feature of logitech's G35 headset is the ability to asign commands or keys to three buttons (g-keys) allong the left ear piece of the headset.  I always had two of these keys set to 'play/pause' and 'next track' however with new the itunes sofware update(10.4.1) these functions no longer work with the headset.  At first i thought it must be logitechs software so i wrote them an email and got the response "
We are very sorry, that you are experiencing iTunes problems with your Logitech G35 Surround Sound Headset, and we do our best to resolve your issue.
You need to understand that your G keys on your Logitech G35 Surround Sound Headset are in fact behaving as specialized keyboard, and therefore we need to inform you, that this problem occurred to any customer, who has any model of keyboard which uses specialized software for additional functions with the iTunes from Apple company.
Therefore, can we please ask you to contact Apple company regarding this matter, because we have no ways how to change the iTunes for this functions to be operational for you again."
Does apple know of this problem?
Has anyone found a fix, other than switching to another media software?

    PedanticPanda wrote:
If anyone is having this problem with Logitech headsets or keyboards where the media keys aren't working in iTunes, this is how you can fix it:
    - Close SetPoint.
    - You need to open a text editor (like Notepad) as an administrator
         - Right click on Notepad, click "Run as administrator").
    - Open the SetPoint players.ini file (C:\Program Files\Logitech\SetPointP\players.ini) in Notepad
         - Might need to set the file browser to show all files, instead of just .txt files
    - Edit the line under the [Players] section to match the line below (bold is the wndClass which is to be changed)
    iTunes=wac,iTunes.exe,ITWindow,xxx,xxx,xxx,xxx,xxx,xxx,xxx,0,1,iTunes
    - Save the file.
    - Restart the SetPoint and hopefully play/pause, next and previous buttons should work (at least they work for me).
Found this solution somewhere else in these Apple forums. Worked for me, so hopefully it helps someone out. Bloody Logitech, blaming Apple and too useless to change one word in their code... =)
Still didn`t work on my G35 or my G19,

macbook pro 13inch,mid2010 qwertyu keys don't work after I upgrade os x 10.10 Yosemite. but it works on keyboard viewer. I'm not sure if it's hardware or software problem, how can I fix it?

    Hello there, kipolo.
Great job using the Keyboard viewer to troubleshoot your issue so far. The following Knowledge Base article provides a great checklists of steps to pinpoint the issue a bit further:
One or more keys on the keyboard do not respond - Apple Support
Some keys don't work as expected
From the Apple menu, choose System Preferences.
From the View menu, choose Speech.
Click the Text to Speech tab.
If "Speak selected text when the key is pressed" is enabled, the key or key combination set to speak text cannot be used for other purposes or used to type text--click Set Key and change it to a less-commonly used key combination (try to use modifier keys such as Shift, Command, Option, and Control). Or, disable the "Speak selected text when the key is pressed" option.
Click the Accessibilty or Universal Access pane in System Preferences, then click the Keyboard tab.
Make sure that Slow Keys is turned off. With Slow Keys on, you need to press a key for a longer period of time for it to be recognized.
In the Accessibilty or Universal Access pane, click the Mouse tab, and make sure Mouse Keys is turned off. With Mouse Keys enabled, you cannot use the Numeric Keypad to enter numbers--instead the keypad moves the pointer (cursor). (There is an option to enable Mouse Keys with five presses of the Option key; you may want to turn that option off to avoid accidentally enabling it.) If Mouse Keys is enabled and you are using a keyboard with no numeric keypad or Num Lock function, see Unable to type while Mouse Keys is enabled in Mac OS X.
If the function keys on the top row of the keyboard are not working as expected, see Mac OS X: How to change the behavior of function keys.
If the issue persists, use Keyboard Viewer to help isolate the issue:
Click the Language & Text pane (Mac OS X v10.6) or International pane (Mac OS X v10.5.8 or earlier) in System Preferences.
Click the Input Sources tab (or Input Menu tab in Mac OS X 10.5.8 or earlier).
Click the Keyboard & Character Viewer "On" checkbox to select it (click the Keyboard Viewer "On" checkbox in Mac OS X 10.5.8 or earlier).
From the Input (flag) menu, choose Show Keyboard Viewer.
If the keyboard is connected and detected by OS X, the keys you type will highlight in the Keyboard Viewer window. Open TextEdit (or any text application), and try to type something using the keys that were previously not responding to see if they highlight in Keyboard Viewer.
Start from the Mac OS X Install Disc, choose Terminal from the Utilities menu and test the keys which were previously not working.  If the keys work while started from the Install disc, then the keyboard itself is working correctly.  Use How to troubleshoot a software issue to isolate the software issue that may be causing the keys to not respond.
Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities.
    Cheers,
    Pedro.

Okay  so I have the Pavilion Sleekbook  15-b011nr
    Serial Number:   [Personal Information Removed]
    Product Number:   C6N92UA
and today I noticed certain keys don't work in combination with the left Shift for example, Shift+S (both left and right), Shift+M, Shift+Z, Shift +X, Shift+C don't work, shift+F does work but gives me this FV. same with j it gives me JM instead. I installed an updated bios, ran a diagnostic test using F2 and under the compenant test for the keyboard it failed and gave me this

now while trying to type all this I found other letters now working as well as me not being able to input the semicolon with either shift key. frustrating since I got this laptop in June so it's still under warranty. Has anyone else encountered this problem and if so how do i fix mine? I'm pretty tech savvy so feel free to let me know, or is my only option is a replacement from HP?

  • Some of my keys don't work and now I can't login

Yesterday I accidentally spilled some liquid on my keyboard. A vey small amount and generally my computer is fine. I used q tips and paper towels to clean under the keys as best I could, turned it off, and put it in rice. unfortunately a few of my keys don't work--u i j k " : m < . The rest of the keyboard is fine and when I checked my laptop was still working fine. I"ll buy condensed air, and then pop off the keys and clean it if necessary. But I figured even if it didn't fix the problem I'm not buying a new laptop right now so I would just work around the missing keys. But I decided to restart my laptop and now I'm stuck on the login screen bc my password requires some of those keys. I was hoping to use my appleId to get in but I'm never prompted for it after entering wrong passwords. I was going to create a new user and bypass the password but the commands to do that also require those keys. I don't have access to my
    installation discs.
    Other options?

Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode|Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).

Open windows Control Panel, open Device Manager and open up Sound, Video and Game Controllers - do you see an existing entry for the IDT High Definition Audio CODEC listed here?
There is an alternative IDT Audio driver you may wish to try on the following link.
