Nexus 2248TP-E Amber ports

I am looking for some feedback on an issue I am having connecting a host server to one of our nexus 2ks. L1 issue it appears.... The port I am attempting to connect to is amber in color. I connect in my server and no link. I have checked the port config, it is ready to go, the port is admin up and not disabled by any means of bpdu's, etc. I have done a shut, no shut. I have confirmed the server nic and cable are good. I noticed the fex has open ports without cables in them that are not amber, I connect in to those ports and get link immediately. Why are these ports amber and how to I take them out of this state?
Brian

Usually amber means the parent switches have not been configured correctly.
When you issue "sh fex" is the FEX on line?

  • Nexus 2248TP port speed and duplexing

    Hello Forum Team!
In order to configure the port speed and duplexing (change to 100Mbps/Full-duplex from auto mode) on a Nexus 2248TP interface, does the port needs to be down,.i.e, no link?
Thanks in advanced for your support!

    Hello and thanks for reply;
I was trying to configure port speed and duplexing on a 2148. This FEX model only works at 1000Mbps as I later found out on the documentation.
    Thanks again for your support.

    Hello Dhanesh,
    thanks for your reply.
We have 2 3548 licensed exactly as your Nexus.
After a reboot of the two Nexus the first 4 ports (of the two) had problems (no input packets, only ouput packets, so unusable). There was connected devices with GLC-T, so they worked at 1 G, not 10G.
We opened a TAC Case about this and, after remote session and many analysis, the engineer decided to replace the two devices.
Despite this I have still some doubt.
I found the discussion below and I post some logs of one of the Nexus, we use the 10 G not in a contiguous way.
    Thanks and regards

Can you send the output of

show lldp dcbx interface ethernet 1/3
a workaround may be to disable lldp on both sides on these physical interfaces

  • Nexus 7000 Supervisor Management Port

    Hi,
I have a deployment with 2 x Nexus 7009. Both N7K's have dual supervisor modules.
Each Supervisor Module is connected to alternate management switches.
Supervisor 1 is connected to Management Switch 1
Supervisor 2 is connected to Management Switch 2
In the event of a failure of Management Switch 1, access to Supervisor 1 is lost and in turn all access to the N7K.
Is there any method of achieving connectivity to the Active Supervisor (1) when this scenario occurs. Can connectivity be achieved via the Standby Supervisor (other than making the Standby Supervisor the Active Supervisor).
    Thanks,
    Colm

That is the correct behavior.  As long as the primary sup is up, you will see the mgmt0 for the primary Sup up.  The second you fail over to the stand-by sup, the mgmt0 for that sup will come up and the old primary will go down.  So, it is only one mgmt0 is up at a time.
Make sure both mgmt0 interfaces are in the same vlan and also port fast is turned on so the mgmt ports comes up as soon as possible.

  • 2950 Catalyst - what do green to amber ports mean?

Occatioanl our grren ports flicker to amber, what does this mean?

You could have a problem but not necessarily. The first thing to do is check the port to see if it is running in half duplex. I have seen router attached ports at half duplex ocassionally flash amber due to the number of collisions during heavy traffic. That is not really a problem, but collisions can get excessive if the traffic is too high. If the link is actually dropping you have a cable fault. I have seen people try to use old cat3 patch cables and that will cause the light to turn amber, but the link is actually bouncing. You can check the logs for that.
Like someone else said, you could have a duplex mismatch, but you should be able to verify the duplex settings on both sides easy enough.

  • Nexus 6004: Question about port-profile type port-channel

I'm setting up a new deployment of Nexus 6004 switches and want to utilize port-profiles as much as possible to simplify management down the road.
All uplinks to other switches, routers and firewalls will be connected using VPC:s. On the port-channels (vpc) the only thing that will change over time is the allowed vlans.
It seems that port-profiles of the type port-channel does not behave in the same way as those with type ethernet, at least not when adding vlans.
If I modify the port-profile using "switchport trunk allowed vlan add XXX" it will delete the previous config and only retain "switchport trunk allowed vlan add XXX", and not merge it with the previous config as is expected.
Question: Is this a bug or is it working as intended?

  • Nexus 7K Supervisor Management Port

      Hello Everyone,
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Scenario: Currently managing 7K through the active* supervisor's management interface via the defualt VRF (management). In the case of a failover, how would one configure the second supervisor, the one in "ha-standgy"? Would the configuration be copied over to that interface and would just need to provide another link to the OBN switch? Thanks again.

As this post is now a couple of days ago you may have already discovered the answer.  However, the vPC requires a unique Port-Channel group for each downstream device between the vPC peer devices, the two N7Ks in this case.  Essentially you need to configure three port-channels, one for each of your downstream N5Ks on both your N7K vPC peer devices:-
    For example:-
    N7K-1
    interface ethernet 7/1-2
    description to N5k-1
    switchport mode trunk
    switchport trunk allowed vlan 1-50
    channel-group 100 mode active
    interface port-channel 100
    vpc 100
    N7K-2
    interface ethernet 7/1-2
    description to N5k-1
    switchport mode trunk
    switchport trunk allowed vlan 1-50
    channel-group 100 mode active
    interface port-channel 100
    vpc 100
    N7K-1
    interface ethernet 7/9-10
    description to N5k-2
    switchport mode trunk
    switchport trunk allowed vlan 1-50
    channel-group 101 mode active
    interface port-channel 101
    vpc 101
    N7K-2
    interface ethernet 7/9-10
    description to N5k-2
    switchport mode trunk
    switchport trunk allowed vlan 1-50
    channel-group 101 mode active
    interface port-channel 101
    vpc 101
    etc.
    Hope this helps

  • Nexus M1 Series 32 port 10G Module Local Switching Support ?

    Hi,
Ive got d 32 port M1 series linecard asic architecture slide below.
There seems to be a local fabric asic on this M1 series card. Anyone knows whether if this module supports local switching and what is the capacity of local switching ?
We are all aware that this module sits 80G on the chassis fabric modules.
    Thanks.

4:1 mux is downstream from replication ASIC which has total 10Gb toward each front panel port-group. So correct you can never put more than 10Gbit/s in/out combined across the ports in one port-group.
As an example say ports 1,3,5,7 each receive 10Gbit/s unicast for ports 9,11,13,15 (1->9, 3->11, ..) The port-group only has 10Gbit/s upwards so incoming excess is dropped at mux and depending on packet ordering you'd get around 2.5Gbit/s out on each port 9,11,13,15.
This is why the module has an 80Gb fabric connection, as there is only 80Gb from replication down to front-panel ports the fabric ASIC will never see more than 80Gbit/s so doesn't need any more channels.
    Cheers,
    /Phil

  • HDMI port in Nexus 2000

All models of the nexus 2000 has HDMI port
Installation guide says it is for console connectivity. There was no special cable supplied with Nexus 2000.
anyone tried to use that port? I want to what type of cable connector to use to console in to the FEX. Anyone knows what type of cable to use??
I know FEX can be consoled in using attach fex 101 command on parent switch but then what is purpose of this HDMI port.

    Krunal,
It is not an HDMI port, though it kind of resembles one.  This port is utility port used by manfucaturing & TAC.  As the N2K is managed by the N5K which has your traditional console port, it's not necessary for console access direclty to the FEX.  It's stictly for diagnositcs.  These ports are standard on FEXs including the IO Modules within a UCS Chassis.
These cables are not supplied to customer or available for purchase.
    Regards,
    Robert

  • Port-security and Nexus 1000v

Is there really any true need for port-security on Nexus 1000v for vethernet ports? Can a VM be assigned a previously used vethernet port that would trigger a port-security action?

If you want to prevent admins or malicious users from being able change the mac address of a VM then port-security is a useful feature. Especially in VDI environments where users might have full admin control of the VM and can change the mac of the vnic.
Now about veths ports. A veth gets assigned to a VM and stays with that VM. A veth is only released when either the nic on the VM is deleted or the nic is assigned to another port-profile on the N1KV or a port-group on a vSwitch or VMware DVS. Now when the veth is released it does not retain any of the piror information. It's freed up and added to a pool of available veths. When a veth is needed for a VM in either the same port-profile or a different port-profile the free veth will be grabbed and initialized. It does not retain any of the previous settings.
So assigning a VM to a previsously used veth port should not trigger a violation. The MAC should get learned and traffic should be able to flow.

  • Single Nexus 5548UP- FCoE configuration with multiple server ports

    Hello Everyone,
I am new to Networking so please bear with me.
Here is some background information. We have a SINGLE Nexus 5548 UP switch to which we are connecting both the storage and the UCS C240 M3 servers (with CNA). Both the storage and server has 2 ports each going to this nexus switch.
We want to implement FCoE with this solution.
Below are the steps (for server ports) that I have followed to configure the nexus. But the port not logging into the SAN (no flogi) with the config.
    Enable Features
    config t
    feature lacp
    feature dot1x
    feature interface-vlan
    feature sshServer
    feature npiv
    end
    Confgure Ethernet Ports - Server
    configure
    interface ethernet 1/17
    description To_UCS_rack_server_1_FCoE_port_1
    switchport mode trunk
    switchport trunk native vlan 6
    switchport trunk allowed vlan 1,6
    spanning-tree port type edge trunk
    priority-flow-control mode on
    no shutdown
    end
    configure
    interface ethernet 1/18
    description To_UCS_rack_server_1_FCoE_port_2
    switchport mode trunk
    switchport trunk native vlan 6
    switchport trunk allowed vlan 1,6
    spanning-tree port type edge trunk
    priority-flow-control mode on
    no shutdown
    end
    Create VLAN
    configure
    vlan 6
    name FCOE_VLAN
    fcoe vsan 6
    end
    Setup FCoE QOS
    configure terminal
    system qos
    service-policy type qos input fcoe-default-in-policy
    service-policy type queuing input fcoe-default-in-policy
    service-policy type queuing output fcoe-default-out-policy
    service-policy type network-qos fcoe-default-nq-policy
    end
Create vfc for Initiators (UCS Servers)
    configure
    interface vfc 17
    bind interface ethernet 1/17
    switchport description virtual_fiber_channel_Server1_Port1
    end
    configure
    interface vfc 18
    bind interface ethernet 1/18
    switchport description virtual_fiber_channel_Server1_Port2
    end
    Adding vFC’s to VSAN
    configure
    vsan database
    vsan 6 interface vfc 17
    vsan 6 interface vfc 18
    Create Zonesets and Zones
    configure
show flogi database vsan 6      ----> Do not see any pwwn here???
    show fcns database vsan 6
Any help in the regard would be highly appreciated.
    Cheers,
    KS

Fixed the issue. "switchport trunk native vlan 6" was causing the issue. Maybe the storage and Servers were not configured with proper VLAN's. I removed the native vlan and everything logged in fine.
Any how I have configured a single zone with all 3 servers pWWN's. I know single initiator zoning is the way to go.
Can you please guide me if I can move these servers in their separate zones without any outages?  If it helps, all severs have 2 pWWN's. The current zoneset is active with that single zone.
Please let me know if you need any additional details.
    Cheers,
    KS

  • ISE 3355 Appliance use of both GigE ports

I am setting up six ISE 3355 appliances 3 in one datacenter 3 in another. They have just installed a new server farm infrastructure using Nexus 5596 and Nexus 2248TP top of rack switches.
I have been looking for documentation on how to do NIC teaming on the 3355 or some way to connect Gig0 to FEX101 and Gig1 to FEX102. Or do I just setup a port channel using LaCP between the two different FEX groups?
Sent from Cisco Technical Support iPhone App

    Hi,
This is not supported, you can not team or load balance or use redundant interfaces on the ISE appliances. You can only use a dedicated span port for ISE deployments, or use crossover links for an ipep deployment in HA mode.
    thanks,
    Tarik Admani

  • I am trying to re-set up my email account on my ipad (1st generation) but am having problems.  The mail server is a private one associated with my domain name and it has worked before on this ipad and is currently working on a Nexus 7 tablet.

The setup on the Nexus tablet asks for port numbers for both incoming and outgoing mail, but the email setup on the ipad does not ask for port numbers. Am I supposed to be inputting the port numbers by inserting them after a colon followed by the port numbers in both the incoming and outgoing mail server fields or is there something else I am doing wrong?

    Hey Garlicdaisy,
Thank you for the follow up.
