Nexus 2348TQ 100 base-tx
Hi Community,
Does someone knows if the Nexus 2348TQ FEX supports 100 megabit speeds?
In the datasheet there is no mention of it, however on the following link it looks like it is possible?
http://blogs.cisco.com/datacenter/introducing-nexus-5624q-switch-seamlessly-migration-from-1g-to-10g40g
Hi Reza, thx for the answer.
This would mean that we should choose the 2248TP-E for these connections.
How do we connect this to the 2348TQ with only QSFP's.
I suppose we can use QSFP-4SFP10G-CU1M (Cisco 40GBASE-CR4 QSFP+ to 4 10GBASE-CU SFP+ passive direct-attach copper transceiver assembly, 1m) or FET-10G 10G (Line Extender for FEX with breakout cable)?
Do we need to change the breakout mode for this? (interface breakout slot X port X-X map 10g-4x)
If yes, can this be done per port, or is it directly for the entire module?

please helpThe Integrated 10/100 BASE-T Ethernet LAN is not the wireless network adapter.
That is the wireless network adapter and has nothing to do with the wireless.
If you need a driver for the wireless network adapter, then please do this...
Go to the device manager and click on the Network Controller needing drivers.
Then click on the Details tab at the top of the network controller window.
Now you see a Property drop down list and it is defaulted to Device Description.
Drop down on that and select the second item on the list (Hardware ID's).

How to use Integrated 10/100 Base-T networking interface
I am new to Solaris, in fact I just installed it. I assumed that I would be able to connect to the internet immediately, but that isn't the case. I have an HP a1610n media center pc, and it comes with an Integrated 10/100 Base-T networking interface. Do I need to install a driver to use this network interface?
Can Solaris 'see' your device? this tool wil let you know. [Sun Device Detection Tool 2.1 |http://www.sun.com/bigadmin/hcl/hcts/device_detect.jsp]
If it doesn't see the controller, there are links on the device detection tool page that should help you find a driver - if one's available - for your NIC.

For almost a month I have been experiencing internet connection dropouts with my vDSL line, which had previously been stable for about six weeks since I changed ISP. I have an initially wired setup, from the router to my Time Capsule WAN port and from there to my 27" iMac Ethernet port. I bought new Cat 6 cables on setup.
During the router setup I was advised to set the active port at the Gigabit setting. Finally having discounted all other possibilities, the router manufacturer support engineer suggested I reset this back to the default 100 Base-T setting: and this has resulted in a stable connection once more.
Surely my iMac should offer functionality at Gigabit Ethernet transfer speeds? Otherwise the Airport home network is dependent on what my computer's Ethernet port can manage. If you Google for non Flash speed test site you will find at least two, I have no idea how good they are hence not putting any links in the post.
As for pin pointing the problem, the only way I know short of having access to the internals of the router and TC including firmware source and test equipment is by producing the fault and swopping the various pieces of equipment out. Having access to the internals is way beyond anything I can do and swopping the parts out seems expensive.
From past experoence of Gigabit issuses I had it was usually down to cabling or faulty connections in the RJ45 sockets, this was quite common. As for the incompatibilty, one way to test is to put a 1Gb switch between the router and the TC.
I would not presume either the router or cable are good until proved.
There is always the possiblity that more than one piece of equipment is faulty, rare but I I have had it happen before.
Not a lot else I can say, perhaps someone else as more thoughts and can help. -
Connecting a 100 Base FX transceiver to single mode fiber
I'm looking to connect to an ISP circuit. The fiber run is single mode and they have a 100 Base FX transceiver on their end.
I've looked up the specifications on that transceiver and it say's it should only be run on SMF.
Anyone had any success with this? You're welcome.
For a VERY short run your MIGHT be able to get a SM transceiver to work over MM fiber.
The coherent light ("single mode") from the laser that launches into much larger core of the multimode fiber (usually 50 or 62.5 microns vs 9 micron for SM and having different propagation and dispersion characteristics) may "punch through" over short distances.
I wouldn't do it in any production environment though as it would likely be unstable in the long term (and is definitely not how the equipment is designed to work). -
Wireless capability Compaq Presario SR1950NX with Integrated 10/100 Base-T networking interface
Wireless capability available for 6-year old Compaq Presario SR1950NX desktop with "Integrated 10/100 Base-T networking interface" ? How best to do this. Wireless adapter via USB 2.0 ? Have Time Warner's modem and my Linksys N750 router in another room, and want to use wireless printer in a third room. Router currently serves Smart TV and a Lap Top in different rooms.
Hi:
Yes, the easiest thing to do is to purchase an external usb wireless adapter.
I just got this one for my desktop.
http://www.linksys.com/en-eu/products/adapters/AE3000
You can read some customer reviews on the adapter at the link below.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16833124477
I am very happy with mine. It connects to my Linksys E4200 router at 450 MBPS on my N only 5.0 GHz band.
I believe that is the maximum throughput for the AE 3000 wireless adapter.
I also like that it comes with the 3' usb extension cable and cradle to position the device for the best reception. -
So I'm going to college this year and my dorm requires my computer to have a 10/100 Base T ethernet card. All I know is that it is some little green square in the computer that you plug a chord into. Does the Macbook have one of them?
This is what it includes, bothe ethernet and wirelss networking so you can use it at wifi spots. But it's not green it's black and right next to the magsafe connector.

Customer requirement is that they want to deduct some amount after the Taxes (after BASB) &t load this amount value after taxes on Material cost (hence accrual KEY can't be used). but with the addition of this new condition type (for deduction) it shouldn't change the base amount for Tax condition type (BASB).
Basic Problem : new condition type value to be load on material (after taxes). but this condition value shouldn't change the Net price of PO(amount in BASB condition of Tax) so that base amount (BASB) of Tax procedure remain unchanged.
(Since it is to be loaded on material hence i cant use account key definitely. Also this cost to be loaded on material after taxes)
Ex - PBXX = 100 base price
Freight = 20
Tax base amnt = 120
Tax (5%)= 6
Total = 126
Other Charges= 10 (this 10 Rs amount in this condition type required to be loaded on material cost, at the same time this condition value shouldn't change the base amount for the Tax (BASB)
Please suggest (purpose is to load the deduction on material cost after Taxes & same time it shouldn't change the the amount after Tax base calculation)Hi,
Your condition type is without acrual flag in M/06. No acrual key is maintained in the MM pricing procedure.
To achieve your requirement, maintain subtotal 6 against the condition type in your MM pricing procedure in M/08.
Maintain the base type calc procedure as 362 against your BASB condition type in tax procedure. Keep the field blank for the tax condition type (VAT or CST / ED etc)
Test the scenario again with a new PO. System will show the condition value in net amount field in PO, but the same wont be copied to BASB in tax procedure. Check the taxes pop up. Check the same and revert back.
Note: Similar requirement (not exact) for acrual conditions are mentioned in my doc: Tax Calculation on Freight - Different Scenarios You may refer it if required.

CPU change from Sat 1800-814 to 1800-100
I have a 1800-814 which has a duff motherboard (apparently very common). I picked up a 1800-100 base and was able to get it working with the 814's screen as a Celeron 800.
Can I use the 814's 1100P3 CPU and heatsink on the 100?Hi
If I am remembering well those two units have different CPUs and I think that something like that is not possible. By the way: generally the CPU replacement on Toshiba notebooks is not possible because of TCP (Tape Carrier Package). This is a permanent connection method.

"securely" use one ethernet interface for WAN and other for the LAN
I am reconfiguring our dual 2.7 Intel Xserve running MacOSXServer 10.5.4, and had a question.
Is it possible (or advisable) to use en0 to perform LAN services, and then configure en1 to only allow access to very limited service. VPN, FTP, CALDAV and later Mail.
I imagine that this is possible via a firewall configuration, but first I do not know how to specify interface in addition to ports, and second I don't know how advisable this would be.
Currently I have a DSL package from ATT with 5 static IP addresses. I have an Airport Extreme set up as one of those addresses providing DHCP and NAT to the LAN. I am using the LAN ports on the back of that to bridge my three switches (2 managed [clients and oce print server 100 base-T] and 1 unmanaged [ laser printers and copier 10 base-T]).
I have the LAN based on 192.168.0.x, with the Xserve at 192.168.0.5. I have DNS configured and working (Thank you Antonio Rocco)
I have 20 LAN clients, 18 mac 1 PC and one PC via Parallels. I will have no more than 1 or 2 WAN clients at any one time
I provide AFP, SMB, Directory Services currently. As part of the reconfigure, I desire to take better advantage of the collaboration tools to provide wikis and CALDAV services. I also want to allow our employees to publish their individual calendars, so that they can subscribe to them at home, or vice versa.
I would like to configure VPN, one for me to access configurations when I am away using Remote Desktop (I have used command line to some extent, but still feel more comfortable with the GUI tools) and second for limited access to content for certain users.
It would also be very helpful for us to have a FTP site. It is unnecessary for this the be a FQDN service, sending the IP address is perfectly acceptable as we only use a service like this 10-15 times a year.
(Related but unimportant in the grand scheme, is there a way to generate a link to the FTP server that you could email that not only is a link, but also a temporary username and password?)
Thank you in advance,
Ion WebsterFirst, I missed a zero in the network speeds, I have two managed GbE switches that have all of the GbE capable machines connected to them, and an unmanaged GbE switch that has all the 10 or 100Base-T connections. My apologies for the mistake. That was one of the reasons I went with the GbE capable Airport to bridge the switches.
Ok, I had been leaning towards a separate hardware firewall, but here is also where there is a hole in my knowledge. Do I need to look at something like the Linksys RVS4000 which bills itself as a +"4-Port Gigabit Security Router with VPN. Secure, smart Gigabit networking for growing business"+ I would like easy configuration, as I take care of these systems in addition to my job, rather than full time. This will be the first time I have set up a VPN connection, so even though I have spent a lot of time researching the manuals, and reading Schoun Regan (Apple Training Series) I don't have real world experience here. So if I buy more hardware, I want it to be the product that will provide the protection, and also allow me to configure it so that I can get these services running. All my VPN clients are running Macs, most on an AIrport connection and have their IP ranges in the 10.0.1.x range. all but one is on OS 10.5.x so I have a fairly homogeneous set of machines to make work together.
I will review the links you provided regarding static routing, but I do believe the hardware solution is a better one, and wish to pursue it, for all the reasons you give, and that in the brief perusal of the links, it is more than I want to tackle.
As far as FTP vs sFTP, I have no preference. I simply want a way to have online storage for transfer of large files on occasion. Ideally I want a folder, or a series of folders that are accessible for my LAN users to put items in and take them out, and for my (s)FTP users to do the same
So long story short, the hardware solution I would like to purchase, I need to be able to do the following:
VPN connections for content access and ARD access ( knew about and will ensure differing IP ranges)
(s)FTP
Calendar publishing
mail(at a later time)
Thank you for your help thus far.

We run a small network in our office consisting mainly of Intel iMacs we purchased several months ago. The server computer is a brand new Intel Mac Pro server with 4 500 gig drives raided together, two 2.66GHz dual core intel processors, all the other bells and whistles we could think of, etc. We added in two fiber-optic switches: one in the server room, one in the office. The switches connect to each other and the server with fiber optic cables, but the iMacs connect with ethernet cables.
We had the iMacs for a while but we just recently got the new server and upgraded our old 100 base switches. Afterwards we wanted to test out the data transfer speeds, as we plan to back up to the server frequently. We were dismayed to find that transfer rates capped out at 60 MegaBytes/sec according to the Activity Monitor's Network Activity tab. In fact, it would range mostly from 40-45MB/sec. None of us here have much experience with networking, but that seemed a tad too slow. My basic math tells me that a byte is 8 bits, and from that a Gigabit network should transfer data at 120 MegaBytes/sec, which is three times the speeds we were actually seeing.
We sent data both to and from the server in order to test this. Thinking it was perhaps a problem with the ethernet itself, we grabbed an external FireWire hard drive and transferred data from one of the iMacs directly to it and noticed exactly the same transfer rates. We plugged two iMacs directly into each other and transferred at the same rate, ~45MB/sec.
Well this was highly frustrating. All Macs supposedly ship with Gigabit ethernet since, what, 2002? Earlier? Why are our speeds so slow? We thought the hard drives might be slow, so we got info on the drives and googled them for their tech specs. The iMacs' Western Digital drives are capable of much much faster speeds according to everything we've read.
We started reading anything we could online that addressed this issue. Some information read the problem might be that the optical DVD-R/CD-R drive was only capable of slower transfer speeds. Since the optical drive and the hard drive are on the same bus it would slow down the hard drive's maximum transfer rate, much like having a Gigabit hub with a 10 base computer plugged into it would slow the entire network down (which is of course why we use switches instead of hubs). Is there any truth to this? If this is, in fact, the case, can we bypass this bottleneck somehow? I'm not talking about opening the computer and manually disabling the optical drive, as that's a waste of a perfectly good DVD-R/CD-R drive.
Also, if this is true, why in blue blazes is Apple flaunting Gigabit ethernet if the computer can only take advantage of 1/3 the speeds Gigabit ethernet has to offer?! I'll happily provide any more information that's relevant to the problem at hand.
Thank you
Mac OS X (10.4.8)Here's the specs for the default Hard Drive that Apple put in here:
http://www.westerndigital.com/en/products/Products.asp?DriveID=137
From that page
Buffer To Host (Serial ATA) 300 MB/s (Max)
Buffer To Disk 748 Mbits/s (Max)
I have no idea what signaling overhead for my data transfer protocol means.
The ethernet cords are no longer than 20 feet, are all Cat5E, and are well shielded. There is little to no ElectroMagnetic interference in any area they run. The longest cable is the Fiber Optic one, which runs about... oh... 40 yards? These were all installed by professionals.
I feel it's important to stress the fact that we tested an isolated direct computer to computer transfer with a single 6 foot Cat5E Ethernet cable and still experienced the same speeds that we experienced over the network. We tested multiple computers, multiple cables, multiple files. -

Microsoft Internet ExplorerYahoo toolbarISP offersThe m8226x seems to have a motherboard issue - specifically speaking with the capacitors going bad - generally 9 that are basically a dark brown color, barrel shaped, which you will notice that all the other capacitors are flat across the top of the cylinder, while these end up being pushed out or rounded on the flat aluminum surface (some might even have a little dark liquid coming out). This seems to be a common issue with many of the motherboards when the division that assembles them either uses sub-spec capacitors that end up over heating and ballooning on top a little or a poor design that is set too close to the capacitor limits or slightly above. There is another cause which is something else gave way and allows the capacitor specs to be overrun, which means something else is wrong. The capacitors would run you about a buck a piece from a electronic supply store (not like radio shack or Best Buy, but a really supply store that sells all kinds of electrical components like capacitors, resistors, circuit boards, chips, etc.) So you can try to repair it yourself buy replacing the capacitors that look bad and hope that you got them all (in mine it was 9). This worked for me but I went ahead and bought another motherboard and will replace the repaired one since I feel that there is a reason that the capacitors were going bad due to a possible design error. A newer or referbished board I would hope has the issues resolved in it.
Buying knock off capacitors seems to have been a problem with a lot of electronics since 2006 to around 2010. They save just over a penny for each knock off but you figure a penny each capacitor means a dime a motherboard times how many millions of motherboards, means a bit of money. Same issue with capacitors when it comes to flat panel TV's (LCD, Plasma, and LED styles).
So check your capacitors and if you see they are not flat I would say replace the motherboard unless you want to try soldering in replacement capacitors - make sure you get the same ones, but you could step up on voltage a little. They will be 105 degrees C so make sure on that too. Good luck. -
Incomplete Library on Itunes 8.0.1.11
Hi,
Sorry if this is posted elsewhere, but I am new to Itunes, after previously regarding it as a horrible application. So Why am I using it. The Iphone 3G. Need say no more on that one.
I have a collection of music that is just under 100GB that has evolved over the years, so although mostly tagged correctly, is missing Album artwork in some areas. This collection was previously being used through Windows Media Library.
I started simple and just dragged in what I wanted to sync with my iPhone, and this worked great. Then a couple of weeks later, I discoved the Itunes remote App on the phone, which is just too cool, so changed itunes to Sync just one playlist that i'll keep for stuff I want on my iPhone, and proceeded to import EVERYTHING to itunes. The music it'self is on a mapped drive on my server (I work in IT - so I have one in my garage!). Left it on overnight - worked great on my XP desktop. I also have a media PC downstairs that runs Vista Home, so I wanted to add a second library so I can control music on that one aswell. This is where it came unstuck. I did the same thing - File -> Add Folder to Library, however when I came back to it a few hours later, it had finished, but only added 30gb of files.
How can this be? Same software, same directory. Only difference is one is XP SP3, the other is Vista Home SP1. Oh and the Vista home one happens to be on 100 Base T right now, as I need a new switch for downstairs. The XP box get's to the server on Gigabit. Would affect speed, but can't see how it would affect the content of the library.
Would appreciate any suggestions, as would love to get this working properly, and having all my music avaliable via remote control on this box. Yes, I could use Windows Media and a media remote, but IR is oldschool right!, I want Wifi, and a common interface for ipod music, and controlling either PC.
Thanks anyone bothering to read this!
