Nexus 5548P vs Nexus 5548UP

I have a question regarding Nexus 5548UP which is supported from NXOS 5.0.3 on.
I assume thats the absolute indentical hardware as the Nexus5548P which was available a little bit
earlier and had also the HW ready for support Unified Ports on all Ports (but was just enabled on expansion-module).
Is it possible by SW upgrade to 5.0.3 to make a 5548UP from a 5548P ?
Thx
hubert

Thx Lucien,
then there is absolutely no reason to buy the 5548P, because 5548UP has same price, and no reason to buy another expansion-module than the UP(has the same price as well compared to the other expansion Module ?
So I assume 5548P and the pure Eth-uplink Modul, and the mixed FC and Eth-uplink Modul will have very limited lifetime ?!
One additional Question: I read that in case a 5596 has L3-Modul built in , it no longer supports the maximum numbers of FEXes  it supports only 8 then.
Is this a limitation which will remain, or is there a chance new NX-OS Versions will break thhis limit

    regards.

    Hi,
A UP or Unified ports allow you to configure ports as  Ethernet, native Fibre Channel or Fibre Channel over Ethernet (FCoE)  ports. By default, the ports are Ethernet ports but you can change the  port mode to Fibre Channel on the following unified ports:
Any port on the Cisco Nexus 5548UP switch  or the Cisco Nexus 5596UP switch.
The  ports on the Cisco N55-M16UP expansion module that is installed in a  Cisco Nexus 5548P switch.

  • Cisco LAN Management Solution is required to support Cisco Nexus 5548P and 5596UP switches?

    Hi,
Could someone help to know what Cisco LAN Management Solution is required to support Cisco Nexus 5548P switches and Cisco Nexus 5596UP switches?
These new Cisco switches are being implementing on customer network and he ask us that he requires these equipments be supported on a LMS solution (customer currently is using LMS 3.2.1)
    Can someone help?
    Thanks in advanced,
    guruiz

Some very limited Nexus support is present in LMS 3.2.1 - see the supported device table here.
To get more complete support, including the 5596UP, they need to upgrade to LMS 4.x (e.g.  LMS 4.2.2 is the latest and is sold under the Cisco Prime Infrastructure 1.2 umbrella). The major upgrade from 3.x to 4.x requires purchasing an upgrade license.
Some functions (namely User Tracking ) will not be available on the 5k due to non-support of the requisite MIB on the device. I believe LMS still doesn't let you do VLAN management on 5k's - you need to use DCNM for that if you want to do it from a GUI.
See the table here for LMS 4.2 device support.

  • Does DCNM ver 5.2 on Nexus 7k manage nexus 5k??

    Dear ,
Does DCNM (DCNM-N7K-K9) ver 5.2 on Nexus 7k manage nexus 5k??
    thanks
    Ahmed

Yes. DCNM runs on a server though - not on a Nexus 7k itself.
DCNM for LAN Essentials Edition is free for Nexus 1000-5000 series and will manage Nexus 7000s with the fee-based license. See Table 5 on the Product Data Sheet.
Product comaptibility details are listed in the Release Compatibility Matrix .

  • Nexus 5548p at loader prompt

    Hi,
We have this c5548p switch working for a while. Then recently it started rebooting itself frequently and finally going to loader prompt.
Does any one know how to boot using tftp server from the loader prompt? I tried but said file not found. The switch network settings seems ok. Can anyone send me a doc which explains how to work on the switch when it is in the loader prompt? Logs from the switch.

    Hi Niranjan,
Nexus has same keystroke as MDS, either CTRL-] or CTRL-C .
Cisco Nexus 5000 Series switches that run Cisco NX-OS 4.0(0)N1(2a) or earlier releases, use Ctrl-B
    (Ctrl+Shift+B) instead of the Ctrl-].
We recommend that you set your terminal to a U.S. keymap first.
For loader state information, this is the boot sequence of a Nexus 5000. AS you can see loader is last step of BIOS before kickstart image starts:

  • Nexus 5548P with L3 Gateway

hello ,we have two nexus connected in vPC with HP Flex-10 to the servers and connected to two firewall in cluster, that firewall will be the gateway for our servers,if the port channel between nexus and FLex-10 will be in trunk mode ,how will be the link between nexus and that firewall who work in L3 ? because we have a virtuel ip address from the firewall cluster that will be the gateway.
    thanks.

    Hi,
If the firewall is where the default gateways for your servers are, than the connection between the 5548 and the firewall need be trunked.

  • Nexus 5548P Unified Port Support

Current 5548P Q&A document (http://www.cisco.com/en/US/prod/collateral/switches/ps9441/ps9670/qa_c67-618605.pdf) claims 16 Unified Ports will be offered via an expansion module targeted for Q1CY11. The problem is I already have installed an extension module which has 8 port 1/10G ETH and 8 port native FC, so I'd like to know if this 8ETH/8FC module is capable of firmware upgrade to unified port module when it is available. Thanks.

    Colin,
Unfortunetly not, unified ports will only be available on the unified module, due to architecture differences.

That is the banner size limit, no way to increase it at this time.

The module you are running requires a minimum software version of 5.1.
You are currently running 5.0.3 which is why the module is not
    recognized.

  • Galaxy Nexus Stuck On Nexus "X" Logo

I tried to upgrade my galaxy nexus using the jelly bean ota and now it's stuck and its been that way for over an hour. Has anyone else had this problem and were you able to find a solution?

Should be the GOOGLE LOGO not the nexus logo....yes it's dang slow, I drove to the V store walking in ten minutes later all of a sudden I saw the JB X in my screen, so I went home.
Still at this point it DOES have a much slower reboot cycle, it hangs on the google logo forever then to the stupid little x in the middle(how could they have such a nice update and a dinky stupid animation for the bootup process?)  I was doing what you did, pop the battery, I tried to restart in the safe mode but kept getting the start/fast bootloader/recovery section...that's when I headed to verizon and 10min later the x got there.
I would think that as long as the animation is moving, it's not stalled, but trying to complete the update....it updates all your apps on the first boot up......Any thing else, you'd better wait for a serious programmer to chime in, or V's tech support....but it won't probably be the first tier that helps.

  • Stackable switche options with Nexus range? - Nexus 3172

    Hi all,
We are looking at upgrading our Rack switches. We have 3 racks and need about 80 10Gig copper/RJ45 server ports per rack. We are fairly price conscious.
I am new to Nexus product range, but have a lot of experience with Catalyst switches.
We are considering Nexus 3172T switches. But I’m not sure if they are really suitable because they don’t stack.
I would far rather a switch model that we can stack together so I don’t need to manage each switch individually (much as you would do with Catalyst 3750). We did look at Catalyst 4500X but they are too expensive.
Initially we only need Layer2 switches, but I would really prefer stackable switches in case we move to Layer3 switches (I don’t want to have to muck around with HSRP).
It really seems to be a big hole in the Cisco product range. Every other vendor we have looked at has a Virtual Chassis (Juniper, HP, Brocade) system that would be idea. Cisco have VSS in the 4500x but its pretty rubbish as it only allows two switches.
What sort of options do I have with Cisco Nexus at a reasonable price?
    Simon

I would suggest you read this white paper which details the pros and cons of direct connect storage.
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/partner/prod/collateral/ps10265/ps10276/whitepaper_c11-702584.html   This paper captures all the major design points for Ethernet and FC  protocols.
I would only add that in FlexPod we are trying to create a highly  available solution and "flexible" solution; Nexus switching helps us  deliver on both with vPC and unified ports.
NPV equats  to end-host mode which allows the system to present all of the servers  as N ports to the external fabric.  In this mode, the vHBAs are pinned  to the egress interfaces of the fabric interconnects.  This pinning  removes the potential of loops in the SAN fabric.  Host based multipathing of the  vHBAs account for potential uplink failures.  The NPV mode (end-host  mode) simplifies the attachment of UCS into the SAN fabric and that is  why it is in NPV mode by default.
So for your last question, I will have to put my  Product Manager hat on so bear with me.   First off there is no drawback  to enabling the NPIV feature (none that I am aware of) the Nexus 5000  platform simply offers you a choice to design and support multiple FC  initiators (N-Ports) per F-Port via NPIV.  This allows for the  integration of the FI end-host mode described above.  I  imagine being a  unfied access layer switch, the Nexus team enabled standard Fibre  Channel switching capability and features first.  The implementatin of  NPIV is a customer choice based on their specific access layer  requirements.
    /Chris

  • Connecting 4 Nexus 2000 with Nexus 7000

    Hi ,
    I have two N7K-F248XP-25  going to be installed in one Nexus 7009 and I have 4 N2K-C2248TP-1GE (48x100/1000-T+4x10GE) .
In simple way, I have two F2 line cards within one N7K and 4 N2Ks. The N7K will be used as a parent switch and it has NX-OS version 6.0
So I want to connect the 4 N2K to the two F2 line cards in a redundant fasion, can some one tell me the best practice of how to connect those N2Ks?
I have read somewhere that I can only use two ports from each 4 shared ports but I am not sure if this is true. I will appreciate any input or a link.
    Thanks

That was Awesome link! Thanks indeed.
So can you please confirm if I am following the F2 + FEX rule
Again, I have only one Nexus 7009 and 4 x N2K , so I have two F2 cards on the Nexust 7009. Here is my connectivity plan:
    1st N2K to port 1 on the first F2
    1st N2K to port 1 on the second F2
    2nd N2K to port 2 on the first F2
    2nd N2K to port 2 on the second F2
    3rd N2K to port 3 on the first F2
    3rd N2K to port 3 on the second F2
    4rth N2K to port 4 on the first F2
    4rth N2K to port 4 on the second F2
So eventually , I am planning to use one group (4 ports) on each F2 card for all the connectivity to those N2K Switches.
Also, I will have a total of 4 port channels .. right ? 1 Port channel for each N2K
    I will appreciate your feedback!
