  • Nexus 5000 switch-profile sync via SVI?

    Hi,
is it possible to use a Vlan interface (SVI) for syncing the switch profile on two 5596?
    I tried this:
    2 x 5596UP with NX-OS 5.2(1)N1(3)
    Connected with 2 x Twinax on ports Eth1/15 and /16, portchannel 3.
The Po3 is a trunk, allowed Vlan is 439. Both 5596 have a SVI in Vlan439 with an IP. I can ping between the two 5596.
    # ping 10.9.8.4
    PING 10.9.8.4 (10.9.8.4): 56 data bytes
    64 bytes from 10.9.8.4: icmp_seq=0 ttl=254 time=0.887 ms
When I try to to this:
    switch-profile k
      sync-peers destination 10.9.8.4
    I get:

I am now unable to make changes to the switch-profile config. I know exactly where the difference is in the config. It is the description on one of the Ethernet interfaces
    interface Ethernet173/1/44
      description *** Server D4 ILO 10.87.103.51 ***
      switchport access vlan 31
      spanning-tree port type edge
    interface Ethernet173/1/44
      description *** Server D4 ILO 10.87.103.62 ***
      switchport access vlan 31
      spanning-tree port type edge
How can I recover from this and sync up both the profiles to the same revision?

    Hi,
Manually fix the description on one side so that both side look equally. (just conf term not conf sync)
Then it shoul sync again. But try to sync from both switches - I've the situation that it config sync succseeds from one side but not from the other.

  • VPC trouble - link flapping between C3750 stack and Nexus 5596

    Hi All,
I have configured 1 vPC's between 2 Nexus 5596 and 1 stack C3750 switch. The links in the stack are distributed over both members.
    Gi1/1/1  -> Eth 1/44  NX 5596-02
    Gi 2/1/1 -> Eth 1/45  NX 5596-02
    Gi 1/1/2 -> Eth 1/46  NX 5596-01
    Gi 2/1/2 -> Eth 1/47  NX 5596-01
The same logic is for another stack C3750 to the same pair of Nexus 5596 switches.
The problem is that the links from the vPCs keep flapping at random moments - 1-2 times per hour.
The network is not loaded at this time and the same issue is on both vPC's.
the flaps in the nexus 5596 looks like this
    %ETH_PORT_CHANNEL-5-PORT_DOWN: port-channel108: Ethernet1/44 is down
%ETH_PORT_CHANNEL-5-FOP_CHANGED: port-channel108: first operational port changed from Ethernet1/44 to Ethernet1/45

    %ETH_PORT_CHANNEL-5-PORT_UP: port-channel108: Ethernet1/44 is up
%ETHPORT-5-IF_UP: Interface Ethernet1/44 is up in mode trunk
On the stack is just up/down the pair interface.
I started few debugs on the stack and captured the folowing output:

Do someone have any idea what happens here ?
The configuration is ok because i have another vPC connected to FEX's and is working fine.

I have tested the SFP's in use on a pair of 2960's & they work fine!
If i replace the SFP's for copper, then they work fine also.
Does anyone know of any incompatibility issue with this SFP?
    Thanks
    Colin

Did you try a different port such as e1/1?  Sounds like a bug to me

Hi all, I'm seeing messages like the following reported on a Nexus 5596:

Po10 is the uplink to the core switch:

      switchport trunk allowed vlan 64,94,104,124
      spanning-tree port type network
      speed 10000
      vpc 10
Any ideas on why we would be seeing these log messages?
    Thank you.

You need to trace this mac address: - 00ab.cdef.0123 and check if this has dual nic card if yes then check if nic teaming is configured correctly ...then shut down one of the link and see if you are learning the same mac address on two different ports?

I wanted to know if you know something about a problem with OSPF in next version:
      cisco Nexus5596 Chassis ("O2 48X10GE/Modular Supervisor")
Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU         with 8263880 kB of memory.

    Kernel uptime is 0 day(s), 2 hour(s), 25 minute(s), 35 second(s)

    Thank you very much.

OSPF logs say that your switch is fully adjacent with 180.101.250.26 and .29, this means normal operation.
Bi-directional communication has been established between the Nexus and 180.101.250.17 and .28. They are in the middle of the OSPF neighboring process.
Some interfaces are initializing, and Po111 and 112 have no member ports (the channel-group <111|112> command hasn't been issued on any physical interfaces).
More information about OSPF neighbor states can be found here.

  • SharePoint 2013 User Profile Synchronization service problem

After one week trying (three clean installs of SharePoint 2013), I haven't succeed to start "User Profile Synchronization service".
    Environment:
Domain environment with two Windows Server 2012 R2 domain controllers.
Fully qualified domain name matches NetBIOS name (domain.com - DOMAIN)
Two tiers: SQL Server 2014 enterprise on Windows Server 2012 R2, and SharePoint 2013 SP1 on Windows Server 2012 R2.
I'm using named SQL instance for SharePoint (<SQLSRV>\<SHAREPOINT>), and SQL alias on SharePoint app server.
All SharePoint prerequisites are installed successfully.
    SharePoint 2013 is installed successfully.
Hotfix 2760265 is installed (before configuring SharePoint)
    SharePoint is configured successfully
    Preparing MySites host:
MySites web application is created with separate AppPool, and with address https://my.domain.com.
Certificate used is wild-card cert (*.domain.com), issued by trusted local PKI
    Managed path "personal" is created
Site collection of type "My Sites Host" is created at root path
"Self-Service Site Creation" is enabled for https://my.domain.com web application
    Farm account permissions:
Local admin at SharePoint application server
"Log on locally" at SharePoint application server
"Replicate Directory Changes" at domain level
I've even tried with adding farm account into domain admins group :)
After trying to to start user profile synchronization service, service is in "starting" state about 5-10 min, and then returns to "stopped" state.
ULS log shows the following exceptions:

    Troubleshooting:
I've tried with clearing configuration cache
Assigning farm account to domain admins group
Installing form scratch three times, and thousand times from different checkpoints...
I've saw 'ERR_CONFIG_DB' like million times, but never "Started" next to "User Profile Synchronization service". Does anyone has actually succeeded to start this service? :)
I would really appreciate any help. Thanks!
P.S. I can't stop asking myself is it was really necessary to develop such complex, problematic, and log-tells-nothing software just for getting user info from AD? Honestly, after more then decade experience as software developer and software architect -
    I must say I doubt...

  • Anyone tried using LDIF file in the User Profile Synchronization Process?

Microsoft pushied an article recently talking about using LDIF file in the SharePoint's user profile synchronization.
Configure profile synchronization using a Lightweight Directory Interchange Format (LDIF) file (SharePoint Server 2010) http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff959234.aspx
Currently I am unable to obtain the required "Replicate Directory Change" permission set up by the AD admin.  So I thought of exploring this alternative since I still have AD search permission right now.
So far, I was able to set up the MOSSLDAP-LDIFMA, and use an import.ldif file to add, remove and update user profiles.  However, there are some problems that I can't resolve.  One of key problems is, the LDIF-imported records can't be
    sync'd with login-based records.
In my environment, when a user login SharePoint via Windows authentication, a new profile would be added, under the account name "domain\username".  Meanwhile, when an LDIF record imported, there will be another profile created under the account
name "domain:domain\username", or "domain:username".  That is, there would be two profiles for each user.
Based on my understanding, it is very likely the user profile synchronization is based on the user's account name.  But in document and sample files provided, I can't find out any clue how to prepare the ldif file so that it will update the
matching records, instead of creating new ones.
    Any help?  Thanks in advance.

Has anyone managed to get this to work?
It's nice that Microsoft offers the ability to import user profiles via LDIF into SharePoint, but it is useless if the account name is not correct after the import. I have tried multiple imports from the LDIF to get a user account to show up as  "domain\username" but
it always ends up as "domain:domain\username", or "domain:username".  or a variation
of these 2 with a colon separating the domain form the username. i see that multiple people have had the same problem, but unfortunetaly can't seem to find a solution. Also I see Bradley mentions that he was able to import accounts using get-QADUser,
but he doesnt mention what the accounts import as or if it resolved the domain colon issue.
Thanks in advance for any help or information anyone can provide.
    cheers,

  • FCoE with Cisco Nexus 5548 switches and VMware ESXi 4.1

Can someone share with me what needs to be setup on the Cisco Nexus side to work with VMware in the following scenario?
Two servers with two cards dual port FCoE cards with two ports connected to two Nexus 5548 switches that are clusterd together.  We want to team the ports together on the VMware side using IP Hash so what should be done on the cisco side for this to work?
    Thanks...

    Andres,
The Cisco Road Map for the 5010 and 5020 doesn't include extending the current total (12) FEX capabities.  The 5548 and 5596 will support more (16) per 55xxk, and with the 7K will support upto 32 FEX's.
Documentation has been spotty on this subject, because the term 5k indicates that all 5000 series switches will support extended FEX's which is not the case only the 55xx will support more than 12 FEX.  Maybe in the future the terminology for the 5k series should be term 5000 series and 5500 series Nexus, there are several differences and advancements between the two series.

  • Temp-Contract Worker User Profile Synchronization in SharePoint 2013

    Hi All,
I was wondering if anyone could provide some feedback on what is the best practice for configuring Temp or Contract worker user profile services in SharePoint 2013. We have had lot of issues within MySites when we make these types of workers AD account inactive
and then active again when they come back on projects. The user profile synchronization does not work correctly and MySites has issues loading the profile etc. Also in the same context are there best practices for Name/Title/Department changes as well.
    thank you for your feedback!

Given what you describe I assume you've created a user profile Sync connection filter to remove disabled AD accounts from the user profile sync.  That's why you are running into problems.  When a user is missing from the import their profile is
deleted within an hour or so, but their MySite isn't deleted for 14 days (to allow time for a manager to clean it off).  If the user is reactivated within the 14 day period their old mySite is still there, but is no longer referenced by the new profile
that is created.  So When the user goes to their profile it tries to create a new mySite where one already exists.  It can't do that.
The same thing will happen if you delete the contractor's user account, but then recreate them in AD when they return.  The only way to fix it is to make sure both the profile and mySite site collection in /Personal/ have been deleted before re-adding
    an old contractor.

  • What is the best way to migrate zoning from an MDS9216i to a Nexus 5596?

I am migrating from a MDS9216i to a Nexus 5596.  We have dual paths, so I can migrate one leg at a time and the full function for these switches is fiber channel attached storage.
What is the best way to migrate the zoning information? I have been told I can ISL the new and old switch together and then push the zoning to the new switch.  Is that better than just cutting and pasting the zoning information to the new switch?
Also, I have to move four Brocade M4424 switches to the new switches - they are currently attached via interop mode 1, but will now be attached using NPIV.  Has anyone done this before, and did you have any issues?
Any help or advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

Use an ethernet cable to connect the two computers, and set up file sharing. After that copying files from one computer to the other is exactly like copying from one hard drive to another:

  • Cisco Nexus 5596 does not boots up after NX-OS upgrade 5.1.3.N1.1 to 6.0.2.N2.5 [CSCun66310]

    Hello Friends,
Just want to save your precious time & effort, while doing Nexus 5596 upgrades so wanted to share some useful info which you can have a look prior to your upgrades of Cisco Nexus 5596 device.
I recently ran into trouble when upgarding one of datacenter switch Nexus 5596 does not boots up and after investigation from Cisco TAC it comes out to be Bug documented below.
    https://tools.cisco.com/bugsearch/bug/CSCun66310/?reffering_site=dumpcr
My Upgrade path of device was : 5.1(3)N1(1)  to  6.0(2)N2(5).
Since this upgarde involves upgrade of Bios and Power sequensor, I was having some doubts to get this succesfully upgraded,  But there was more twist involved in this upgrade which I came to know after contacting Cisco TAC for my died Nexus 5596 device and got info that if you have below impacted version in your Nexus 5596 device and you are planning to do Upgrade, then you migh RUN into this serious BUG aftre which device won't come up at all and only Option left is to replace with RMA device.
PID                            Impacted                   Hardware versions      Updated Versions
    UCS-FI-6296UP                                            1.0                                       1.1
    N5K-C5596UP                                              1.0                                        1.1
    N5K-C5596T                                                 1.1                                         1.2
You can check hardware version using below command from your device.
    5596# show sprom sup | inc H/W
    H/W Version     : 1.1
So please be carefull when planning your Nexus 5596 upgrade and verify above things as this Bug is not present anywhere in Upgrade docuemntations unfortunately.
Hope this will help and save someone's precious Time.

Today "upgraded" our switch (N5k-C5596UP) to from 5.1(2)N1 to 7.0(5) and after reboot no life from the switch either. Even no console response. show sprom sup | inc H/W shows 1:0.
Only thing we could do is RMA the switch. So what must I do with these switches? Have still to do 3 of them.

  • User Profiles Synchronization Error Event id 5553 - Every hour

I am getting these 2 events logged in the event viewer when the user profile synch is attempted:
    First event:

Does anyone know why this is happening and how it can be fixed?

When I run the stsadm -o sync -deleteolddatabases 5  <- no matter whst number is here I get:
"A failure occurred during the processing of this command. Check diagnostic logs  for more information."
There is nothing in the ULS logs
    Same problem here.
Hoping this will fix a slightly different issue though. My issue is the profile doesn't update with changes in Active Directory and therefore there isn't anything new for the content databases
    to sync with.
If I delete my personal profile in the UPS Service -> Manage User Profiles and then click on MySite -> MyProfile it recreates my profile with the new Active Directory values
(without having to do a UPS Sync) and I don't know why these values exist but of cause in doing this I lose all the non AD imported values.
I've been working on this for nearly a week now. I've learnt a lot about the UPS but still no solution. Great article on how the Sync works by the way if anyone is interested can be found here

I have been recommended to perform stsadm -o sync -deleteolddatabases in the following post but I am unable to do so.

  • Maximum number of interfaces in Port Channel on Nexus 5596

Let me preface this by saying I am not a network expert....
I noticed that our customer had configured a port channel on their Nexus 5596 comprised of 16 interfaces. I thought the maximum number of interfaces in a port channel was 8 interfaces? I see in the Nexus 7000 documentation that if you configure 16 interfaces, the remaining 8 will be in "hot standby." Is this the same behavior on the Nexus 5000 series?
    Thank you.

Same behavior on the 5500 series and other Cisco switches like 3750, 3850 , etc..
