Nexus 5k connected to dual 4506-E w/VSS

We're in the process of several upgrades. Part of these upgrades include turning on VSS in our core on two 4506E and installing a Nexus 5k with UCS in the data center. I'm planning to configure the links between Nexus and 4506E as layer 3 port channels.
My question is will the 4506E pair appear as one switch to the Nexus 5k? I would like to have a pair of 10G uplinks from the Nexus 5K to each 4506E...40G total. I'm wondering how STP will interact with the 3 switches as well. thanks....

If they're L3 portchannels, spanning tree won't play into that as it is L2. You will rely on ECMP for your IGP to load balance and all port between the layers will potentially be forwarding.
If they were L2 portchannels and you had VPC for all the relevant VLANs, it would look like one big 40 Gbps link - also with all ports forwarding. In that case the portchannel load balancing algorithm would distribute the traffic.

  • Cisco Nexus 5548UP connect to dual NetApp controllers using FCOE

Here is my setup, I have two 5548UP's connected via VPC peer link. I am tring to use VPC to connect to a NetApp with dual 10gb ports using FCOE, with each 5548 getting one of the connections.
I then want to use VPC to connect to a dell server that has dual 10gb ports using FCOE as well with each 5548 getting a connection. I am new to FCOE, any help would be appreciated. I am getting confused in the configuration for both. Thanks

    Erik,
Can you check the deployment guides from links pasted below -

Head to the Nexus 5k section and check how FCoE is configured, how vPC is configured..
Once you tackle 5k, depending on your Environment (from Netapp perspective), check how to create Interface groups.

  • Dual-active detection for VSS via enhanced PAGP

    Hello,
What is the configuration needed on an etherchannel PAGP trunk to enable dual active detection for VSS on 4500X ?
I have enabled it on my vss in global mode but I don't know which vlan to allow on the trunk towards my switch in PAGP.
Is it the native vlan that I should allow on the trunk ?
    Thanks for the help
    Jeremy

    Hi Jeremy,
You can allow all the vlans of specific vlans under the portchannel that connects to the access switches.  Usually, best practice is to allow only the vlans you are using on that specific access switch.
Dual-active detection command is applied under the VSS domain for the specific portchannel connecting to your access switches.  It is not per vlan.
    Have a look

  • Connect to Dual-Link DVI-D port on monitor using DVI-D to VGA adapter -- getting no signal

I have a T400.  I am trying to connect to a dual-link DVI-D port on my LG monitor via the VGA port on my T400 laptop. I bought a DVI-D to VGA adapter, but I am getting no signal.
Do I need some other method or adapter or cable?  Monitor works fine for VGA to VGA connection.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

I happened onto this thread while searching for a way to connect my T400 to my wife's 27" iMac. What I learned thus far is that Atlona makes a device (AT-DP400) that will convert dual link DVI to Mini DisplayPort. But Atlona says that one's graphic card must support 2560x1440. The T400 doesn't have a DVI out (nor does my current docking station), but it sounds like one can get a docking station that does. But that won't help if my card won't support 2560x1440. So are you saying that there is no way I will be able to use the 27" iMac as a monitor for the T400?

  • IChat screensharing won't fully connect with dual-monitor setup

I've read through several threads but none seem to match the peculiar problem I am having.
My mum just got a new "13 MacBook Air and an external LG LED (E2240T) monitor. I ran software update on it so her system is current, as is mine (late 2009 MBP/24" ACD).
Screensharing works fine when her external monitor is not connected but when it is plugged in and we try to screenshare the audio connection is established but sharing won't fully load and stops with this:
We tried unplugging the monitor and then plugging it in once the screensharing connection was established and that ended up with the image on my end freezing.
Anybody else have a similar problem? Any suggestions?
For what it's worth with her old (2006) MBP and old LG LCD we had no problems.

    Hi,
I have an old 17" Studio Display (The one with the ADC connector) and a 19" CRT Screen that I have On sometimes with my G4/1Ghz Dual Processor.
    This is running Snow Leopard.
If I share Screens using iChat with my MacBook Pro, the MacBook Pro puts the Screens Side by side as one picture (You cannot view just one screen).
iChat has a Software "Camera" that deals with the "Desktop" or what ever is on it as the pic for the Screen Sharing feed.
I have tried several Resolution settings on the CRT and iChat seems to cope (They are in a fairly narrow band though).
It might be possible that iChat is having difficulty if the two screens are vastly different in Size or resolution settings.
You seem to be describing using a 13" screen and the 21'5" one which may explain it.
There may also be differences in the Ratio.

  • Galaxy Nexus Not connecting to network

    Good Evening,
I just received a replacement phone for Galaxy Nexus. The phone is not connecting to network. I am able to connect to wifi but unable to make calls or send texts since having the phone activated last night.  When I was in the store last night I was able to receive and send a few text messages but since then haven't been able to communicate using my phone. I don't know if this an issue with the service in the area North Attleboro, MA or with my phone. Been on hold for 20 minutes with customer service.
    Thank you,

Thanks for the additional information jdeguilio!
No issues noted for North Attleboro. Please reprogram and test. To reprogram please pull the SIM card for one minute, then reinsert and power off/on. I see that you are using the same SIM from previous phone and this should not be a problem; however, if you accidentally touched the golden portion of the SIM card that could cause some issues. If reprogramming does not improve, try a new SIM card. You can get one for free at any Verizon Wireless http://bit.ly/3SdsA corporate store.

  • [Solved] Nexus 5 connectivity

Right, I'm trying to connect my Nexus 5 to my laptop for USB tethering and media transfer. Now the procedure is not hard, I used to connect my xperia x10 and and my s3 just fine. I have searched and found many threads on here, on Ubuntu's forum, and xda but my problem seems to be at a lower level. The suggestions is always to install a bunch of packages (which I've done).
Here is what I've installed :qtadb, libmtp, gmtp, android-sdk-platform-tools, android-udev. I'm running Arch 64 bit (KDE) and the problem is on both my T410 and PC.
What is really worrying me is that it seems the phone is not detected in any form or shape. It just draws power from USB. Here is lsusb with the phone connected. (lsusb with the phone not connected is the same)

Well, that output has nothing to do with connecting the phone.  Each time you connect, I would expect to see data such as this output caused when I connect my HTC:

Yours does not even try to connect.  There is no negotiation, no errors, nothing.
Either you have a bad cable, or the phone is not in a mode where it behaves like a USB client.  Does that phone work with other computers?

  • Nexus 5596T connecting to 3comm 5500

    Good Day all,
I have a query. Our customer will be changing out their 3comm core switch and placing in a nexus 5596 switch instead. There access switches will now be connecting to the 2 5596T switches that will be clustered.
Can a single 3comm switch be configured to connect two ports, one to each 5k? And will aggregating the  two ports on the 3comm end allow an active, active link to both 5ks?
Virtual port channels are supported on nexus 2ks and this can be used to connect to both nexus 5ks however will a 3comm allow this? I think it should be therethorically the 2 5ks are clustered and will be seen as one towards the 3comm.
    What are your thoughts?

    Hi,
the port channel is not coming up on the nexus and on the 3com side when a "display stp brief" is done i am seeing one of the links as blocking and one as forwarding. this configuration didnt include port channeling on the 3com.
Depends upon how the port-channel on the Nexus is configured, but I would say that's expected behaviour. If the 3COM isn't configured for link aggregation the Nexus port-channel is not receiving LACPDU so the ports would go into an Individual state. I expect if you ran the show port-channel summary command on the Nexus you would have seen the Individual (I) flag set for the two interfaces.
When port channeling is performed on the 3com end one of the links goes down. The same steps were performed on a cisco 3560 and it worked perfectly so i am not certain whats different with the 3com.
So how is the port-channel on the Nexus configured? On the physical interfaces are you using the command channel-group 12 mode active(dynamic LAG with LACP) or simply channel-group 12 (static LAG)?
Can you paste the output of a show port-channel summary, show lacp counters and show lacp neighbor? Also any log messages that are displayed on the Nexus when the link goes down would be useful.

  • Nexus 5548 SPAN Destination- Dual Homed FEX

I understand that order to setup a SPAN monitor session, only 5K local ports can be destination ports.  Our FEX are dual homed, so I know we have to have the monitor session configured on both 5K's.  We are wanting to connect an Infinistream sniffer to the destination port.  What I am confused about is do we also have to have 2 destination ports, one on each 5K connecting to the Infinsitream or can we just use one?

You cannot set more than one destination to a monitor session.  You can have multiple source interfaces, but only one destination.  Try this:
    destination interface e2/14
You will need to create two more separate monitoring session with the same source interfaces but set the destination to the other two interfaces.
    HQ-N5k-2(config-if-range)# monitor session 1
    HQ-N5k-2(config-monitor)# source interface e1/17 both
    HQ-N5k-2(config-monitor)# destination interface e2/14
    HQ-N5k-2(config-if-range)# monitor session 2
    HQ-N5k-2(config-monitor)# source interface e1/17 both
    HQ-N5k-2(config-monitor)# destination interface e2/15
    HQ-N5k-2(config-if-range)# monitor session 3
    HQ-N5k-2(config-monitor)# source interface e1/17 both

  • Juniper SSG 20 optical interface connection to Cisco 4506

Let me post the same issue to the Optical forum too:
    Hello,
    Here's the problem.
There's one Juniper SSG 20 firewall with JX-SFP-1GE-SX multimode fiber interface (850nm) (which I can control) and I have to connect it to Cisco 4506 switch which has WS-X4306-GB module and WS-G5484 GBIC interface (also multimode fiber).
SSG 20 shows link up. Cisco shows link down.
Unfortunatelly I don't have Cisco 4506 to play with, but I have to find solution for this system. Cisco 4506 show version is:
    #show version

I was able to replicate issue with Cisco 3524 swtich (SSG20 shows link up, Cisco link down, physical down), and solution that I found was to enter interface level command: (config-if)#no negotiation auto. After this command, everything was showing state as "UP" and working as expected (there was traffic going through the optic)
When I suggested this command as a solution, administrator from the other side was claiming that this command returns "invalid input detected at ^ marker".
Can anyone tell me is there any known issue between those two products, and maybe alternative to this command, so I can turn off this IEEE 802.3z negotiation if that's the problem.
    Thanks for assistance
    Cheers
    M.

So I found my solution, but I want to know why is like this.
The solution was to enter on Cisco the following command:
    (config-if)#speed nonegotiate
    From this link: http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/switches/lan/catalyst6500/ios/12.1E/native/configuration/guide/sw_int.html
I can see on section: Configuring Link Negotiation on Gigabit Ethernet Ports that this command is doing negotiation exchange of flow-control parameters, remote fault information, and duplex information. Link negotiation is enabled by default.
And the funniest thing of all is, this speed nonegotiate command doesn't deal with the speed at all :)
Can someone confirm me what are remote fault information and flow control parameters

  • I have a 15in MBP late 2013 w/ Mavericks installed.  At work, I was hoping to dock the MBP and connect to dual Dell P2414H monitors.

To do so I purchased (2) DisplayPort to HDMI cables and (1) Thunderbolt to HDMI adapter.  As for setup, I have one monitor directly connected to the HDMI port on the MBP and the other monitor connect to the Thunderbolt adapter.
I am getting no signal whatsoever on either monitor.  I've ensured that each monitor is set to DisplayPort.  I can understand a signal issue existing between the monitor and the adapter, but I cannot understand the issue with the monitor connected directly to the MBP via the HDMI port.  I checked System Report > Hardware > Thunderbolt and my Thunderbolt to Ethernet adapter shows, but port2 contains no connected device (this is where the Thunderbolt to HDMI adapter is plugged).  Does anyone know where I can check the status of the HDMI port?
I'm hoping that the issue isn't as blunt as the monitors not being compatible with the MBP.  I've used my previous MBP with another, older, Dell monitor via a Thunderbolt to VGA adapter with no issue whatsoever.  I've scoured the interwebs with the hopes of finding someone with a similar issue, but I've found nobody.

When the dock is defined as on the bottom, it will appear on the screen of the extended desktop that is lowest.
Move the second monitor where the bottom edges are equal or the Dell is lower and the dock will move there.

  • G5 Connecting to Dual Dell Monitors

    hello,
this is a no brainer for most, but i am new to Mac. I have 2 Dell Monitor i want to hook them up to my Mac G5. I have those white DVI to VGA convertors i connected to the end of the Dell monitors and hooked up to the G5. I'm not getting any picture on either one of them. Can someone please tell me how i can hook both monitors up to my G5? Thank you so much..
    Jeremy

Do the Dell monitors have multiple inputs? If so, you need to change the input settings to match how it's physically connected. For example, on my Dell 2405FPW, I have to set it to "Input 2" as that's the DVI input.
