Nexus 5k High Fan RPM

Hi,
The fans 1 & 2 in Module 1 on the Nexus5K are still experiencing the very high RPM and speed issue.
I have replaced the fan from another operational Nexus5K, and the fans are fine in the other Nexus. The replacement fans also have the same issues, so it is not a fan hardware issue.
There are no threshold alarms. the only log entry that is related to this is as follows:
%NOHMS-2-NOHMS_ENV_ERR_FAN_SPEED: System minor alarm in fan tray 1: fan speed is out of range on fan 1. 7950 to 12500 rpm expected.
I have provided the output for both the fan detail and the temperature.

Usually this error message means that your have fan tray fault.
Is the same fan tray working fine on the other nexus?
Can you try reseating it again? Once you done provide me the following outputs:
show env fan
show en power in
show logging last 100

  • Have you noticed high fan RPMs after installing Quadro 4000 ?

Just after I installed my new Nvidia Quadro 4000 for Mac I noticed that the fans are running at a much higher speed, everything else is working fine though, has anybody else noticed something like this ?, thanks

    Yes it has been reported.
We have some threads over the last months, and on MacRumors.
Do you have ATI 5770 in there also?
I would use SmcFanControl 2.2.2 and boost the fans to get moe air flowing to begin and prevent heat buildup.

  • Question about 970 fan RPM

I just got a 970 and so far I'm loving the performance, but I noticed something a little weird about how it controls the fans. My temps hover right around 60 when gaming, so I'm just at the threshold of where the fans kick in. When I look at the fan RPM graph in afterburner they are switching rapidly between 600 RPM and 0 RPM. I was wondering if this is harmful to the fans in any way, because from what I can see in afterburner the card is constantly turning the fans on and off. I'll post a pic below of what I'm talking about.

maybe overclock your card, let it reach a bit higher temperature, so the fans could remained spinning?

  • Huge CPU temperature, low fan rpm, is it normal?

    Hello!
    I'm a new mac user, I have a new macbook 2.0Ghz, 4GB Ram and a hdd 160Gb.
I compared the temperatures of my mac with other macs and my values are huge.
In normal CPU usage I get 60ºC, but when I turn on my virtual machine the CPU temp can go to 84ºC and the fan is only at 3265rpm!
For example, now I got CPU usage of 70% and it's at 80ºC and the fan is at 2456rpm, is it normal?
Above there is a list of CPU temp and respectively fan rpm
    84ºC - 3265rpm
    80ºC - 2427rpm
    78ºC - 2004rpm
    60ºC - 2000rpm
    45ºC - 1998rpm
    40ºC - 2001rpm

    Hello All, I have a early 2008 Macbook 4.1, with a 2.1 Ghz, 4G ram, and a 7200 RPM HD, and I am also frequently between 60-85 deg C. (140 - 185 deg F.)
My fans runs between 1800 rpm up to 6200 at higher CPU temps.
Sometimes I wonder if running the Macbooks wifi, bluetooth, and an external 24" monitor, increases the interior temp?
I have had on occasion, doing some encoding with a slew of programs running, had the temp up to 96 deg C (205 deg F), and it still was running fine, mind you I was freaking out.
But when I checked on the Intel site for max CPU temp for my model processor T8300, it said that it was 105 deg C as the maximum. 105 deg C converts to which is 221 deg F.
I figure that they must have some kind of CPU shutdown/slowdown mechanism so if it gets too hot.
And if it doesn't, my 3 year AppleCare will have to deal with it.
I am more interested in the Hard Drive temp, since if that cooks, there goes my "restore plan" into action. But it generally stays around 90 - 100 deg F.
My buddy has an iMac, and it runs between 70-100 deg F. Go figure, it's cold as ice
Just thought I would share my 2 cents worth, IAN...

  • Black Screen, high fans, then restart

    Hi,
A few days ago, my iMac went to a black screen out of nowhere and began having three or four 2-second pulsations of extremely high fan spinning. When the loud fanning ended, the computer restarted and I went on without seeing any obvious issues with my computer. I was not running any huge applications, maybe a few safari windows at the most, and it just happened. I thought that there was no issue, but today the computer did the same exact thing about 15 minutes after I started Word. The screen went black and the 2(or more)-second pulsations were back, but they lasted 2 or 3 times longer, about 20-30 seconds in total. The second time in 3 days has me fearing more than just an unproblematic crash. Has anyone experienced an issue like this, and how did it get fixed? If not, does anyone have an idea about the cause, or may it just be a symptom of a greater problem? Any ideas help. Just to add, I recently posted a message asking for normal computer temps, and my GPU temp seems to be a bit above normal (consistently at 62 celsius).
    Thanks,
    Matt

Nothing wrong with iStat Pro, but I use Bresink's HardwareMonitor.
It monitors temps, fan rpm, volts, amps, etc. and can display charts
of the measurement trends over time. IIRC, it cost about USD $10,
and you can try it out in advance with the free evaluation copy.
    There's also a trimmed-down freeware version, TemperatureMonitor,
    that only monitors temperatures.

  • Harmful fan rpm?

    Hi there!
I just downloaded a program called Temperature Gauge from app-store. The program tells me of how hot my computer are and how high the fan's rpm is. Right now i'm running Starcraft 2 and the fan rpm i almost maxed at 5900 rpm (the rpm bar is red and almost full). However the computers temperature is at 93 C.
My question is, does my macbook take harm from running it's fans this fast although the temperature doesn't seem to be too high?
Hope you understand the question and have a great day!
    mbp specs:
    2,4 GHz Intel Core i5
    8 GB 1333 MHz DDR3
Intel HD Graphics 3000 512 MB
    OS X 10.8.2 (12C60)

The fans are reacting to not just cpu temp though.  They are also influenced by gpu chip temperature and other sensors on the logicboard.  Often the gpu chip set can be generating a lot more heat then the cpu if you were doing something graphicly intensive like a game.
MBP's can get pretty toasty sometimes, but I've never had any heat related issues with mine (which is a late 2008 model bought in early 2009).  It can be a bit of a surprise when you first ever hear the fans ramp up to max 6000 rpm though!

  • Msi r9-290 gaming (fan RPM )

Hello can anyone help please . my r9-290 gaming dose NOT show the fan RPM any more in GPUZ or in MSI afterburner. it use to in 13.12 but now nothing shows on 14.1  (fan rpm = 0 ) fans are on and running on desktop they are at 18% and go to about 40% in game.
plus in MSI afterburner the gpu ram speed keeps going up and down like a yoyo.
here is a screen shot of what i mean.

    Hi hpipiw
I think the fans are actually fine, its definitely looking like a software issue, I didn't see this problem before installing afterburner, and setting a higher min fan speed seems to have cured the issue for now.
I can imagine that a fan thats seizing up might just stop at lower speeds, but I would think it would struggle to start up when touched.
Keeping an eye on it for now, will of course rma if I notice anything bad happening.
    Cheers for the comment.

  • Platinum sli 7125 - temp / fan rpm sensor playing up

Recently installed a new nexus fan and a psu into my system ( see sig) and finding the fan and temp sensor chip is giving me odd readings...
It was fine previously and reported the consistent values through corecenter, speedfan and everest
Now I am sometimes getting temps of -99 for cpu, fan rpms dropping to 500pm on cpu even though the speed is not changing.
All readings from corecenter, speedfan and everest tally
It is solved by a quick reboot so a little confused as to why it is happening?
I do have the latest bios 3A, which was put on 6 months ago, no changes recently apart from the new more powerful psu and a new rear case fan (replacing my older antec one) which is running off s_fan1 3 pin point rather than the antec one which ran off the psu directly
I may try swapping the nexus to run off the psu directly...
    thoughts welcomed
    thanks

    odd
all is back to normal it seems
I can only conclude that there is some spiking or irregular current flow via the 3 pin wires off the nexus...
it is now fine off the psu - good thing the nexus is only 22db at 12v ! as I could not bear to go back to the antec fan at 12v

  • HT1305 how can i turn down the fan rpm that's between the optical drive and hdd in my power mac g5 dual 2.3?

how can i turn down the fan rpm that's between the optical drive and hdd in my power mac g5 dual 2.3?

Ok, I saw that error in your logic. A Dual G5 2.3 or even a Dual Core 2.3 does NOT use LCS at all. Its air cooled and if anything if the OP is experiencing this problems could be due to possible heatsink paste drying up. He might have to re-apply MX 7 or Arctic Silver.
The only G5's that use LCS are: G5 dual 2.5 from Late 2004, the G5 Dual 2.7 from Early 2005, and lastly the G5 Quad-Core from Late 2005-end of September 2006.
    Hope this helps.

  • Still NO fan RPM after 13.12ccc?

hello i just want to know what happened to the fan rpm on my msi r9-290? it had fan rpm in CCC13.12 but anything above that i don't get it. even with the new full 14.4 drivers still no fan rpm?

Ok one more thing thats going on with the card now. IS after playing a game or video the card (msi R9-290 gaming) gets stuck on its full load settings at full power (977/1250 or 1007/125 at 1.248V) making the card hit about 56c when idle just on the desktop. i have to power off the pc to reset the gpu so it goes back down to 300/150 when idle on desktop. and to top it all off the fans don't go above 18% anymore??. only way to get them to go over 18% is to use MSI afterburner unclick auto on the fans and set it to 100%.
can someone let me know if theres a fix for this please. thank you

  • Sorry, BIOS is Rev 1.0, CPU fan RPM still wont show, on Promise SATA and I have no activity led??

Yes, everything is properly connected, CPU fan is on CFAN1 and the HDD is on the Promise and the front panel led connector is properly connected.
Anyone know what the heck is wrong?? maybe my board has LED on VIA and not Promise opposed to Promise having it and VIA not??
and why won't my bios display the damn CFAN1 RPM's??? I tried every connector also.
    any help?
    thank you

Ok, this is weird, the HDD led connector was connected as directed in the manual, black (ground) on pin 1 and red (+12) on pin 3, whats weird is that I flipped it upside down (red on pin 1 and black on pin 3) and now it works, that just weird but at least it works now. every other connector works when connected normally, funny that I have to flip the HDD led connector upside down haha.
Anyway, still can't figure out the CPU Fan RPM, why it displays 0 while the Fan is actually running?? I don't know why.
Have you heard of that problem??
    Thanks again guys.

  • Macbook pro 13" june 2009 fan rpm remains at 2000 rpm when temp is 85c

    Hi,
I've just bought a new macbook pro 13 inch and updated software vis software update.
I've noticed that the fan rpm went to 2700 rpm on every boot but
after a few minutes it goes down to 2000 no matter the temperature is
I'm using iStatPro to see the temp and fan
I've tried open youtube videos to raise the temperature to 71 but the fan remains the same at 2000
    Please advise.
    Thank you

    Thank you for the info
I've just tried resetting the SMC but no luck.
since this is my first mac computer so I'm not sure if this is normal or not
after an investigation with different scenarios of work load I found that
    room temp : 27c
    cold boot : cpu 45c
    : fan 2000 / 2700 rpm
    warm boot : cpu 58c
    : fan 2000 / 2700 rpm
    running parallels
    with windows 7
and visual studio : cpu 75c
    : fan 2000 rpm
The fan did kick in to 3500 rpm once the temp is 85c
I'm not sure if this is normal or not since my Dell M1330 xps
which running vista and visual studio shows only
    cpu: 58c
    fan: 3000rpm
    Thank you
I'm not thinking about using SMC fan control to set the default to 3000 rpm
and use it only when I work on Windows but not sure if the program will damage
    my new baby or not
    Thank you

  • No video, high fan noise on startup, for the THIRD TIME

For the third time in slightly less than three years, I have encountered the same crippling problem with my iBook G4 (1 GHz, June 2004 vintage). In essence, the screen will abruptly go black while in use (not screensaver) and no amount of keyboard/mouse activity will reactivate the display. If I power off by holding down the power button then restart, the screen stays black and the fans come on full speed.
Despite a bit of confusion on the details, this sounds like the problem described on the webpages below. In essence the Danish government has issued a finding that there is a design flaw which allows excessive logic board flexing, which in turn causes logic board failure.
This is, as I said above, the third time I have encountered this failure in less than three years. Worse, they seem to be coming closer together. The first was after about 1.5 years, the second 9 months later, and now seven months after the second repair. Since I didn't get Apple Care, paying for a third repair out of pocket would bring my repair bill up to the cost of a new iBook.
I do not abuse my iBook, and since the second repair I have been very careful with my iBook. Does anyone have any suggestions on getting Apple to acknowlege the problem or who I can appeal to? Apple's website doesn't seem to offer any e-mail tech support options and I'd rather not sit on hold for an age (again) if it can be avoided. While I don't want to abandon my iBook or Apple, I may be forced to if I can't rely on the hardware.
    Thanks

iBook G4 1GHz (early 2004)   Mac OS X (10.3.9)   blank screen, high fan noise on start

Well it doesn't sound like the Danish power problem since it will start up.
The ATI Mobility Radeon 9200 4x AGP graphics processor chips in these iBooks have been problematic. Usually it's the reball problem and it can be reballed for ~ $78. I've done 4 this year and they work just great. A cheap way to get nice laptops. If they respond to the "shim fix" then reballing will work.
A more troubling problem is with the 9200 chip itself. My reballer says that this chip is in itself the cause of some of these problems. He knows it since it's also used in IBMs, Compaqs and many other laptops and he's seen a lot of failures. My only failed reball was a 9200. I have a line on a replacement board or finding the chip in a broken PC.

I recently bought a new battery for my laptop and whenever I plug it in, while my charger is plugged in, the fan RPM increases as if I am using 100% CPU and 100% RAM. Could this be caused by the new battery?
I have an hp dv7-3111ea and bought this battery http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/140961851908 .

    Hi @CreaTivEuk ,
Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums and Welcome.  I have looked into your issue about your HP Pavilion dv7-3111ea Notebook and issues with the newer battery. Here is a link to test and calibrate the battery.
Plug the power adapter directly into a functioning wall outlet. Do not plug it into a power strip, surge protector, or secondary power source as this could cause and issue.
The link you sent does show me the correct battery for your HP Notebook.
I recommend to restore the BIOS defaults with this document selecting the reloading the BIOS default settings
