Nexus 6001 for small DC as a collapsed core/distribution instead of 4500X
Hi,
I am looking for a switch platform for a small DC that can provide high density 10G and good L3 performance. I was thinking of Nexus 6001 as L3 performance is better thant 5548/5596 and it supports FabricPath. Than I have also looked at the 4500X but I think that it is more a campus switch than a DC switch. Moreover I would like to get rid of Spanning Tree ;-)
My last concern is what is the difference in the buffer capacity (when talking 10G to 1G conversion) when comparing the Nexus 6001 to the CAT4500X?

Collapsed Core / Distribution VLAN Config
Hi Guys,
I was wondering if you could provide me with some insight.
If I have 2 L3 devices in my collapsed core and distribution layer, how do I go about configuring VLANS?
Currently I have 2 Core/Dist Switches both running L3 and 5 Access Switches
I've configured STP and VTP accross the campus and all is working well.
Now, a sh run from core1 shows vlan information including ip address of interface for the vlan etc, but core2 doesn't, it's aware of the VLANs due to VTP but doesn't display any interface information.
If Core1 was to fail, how does my network know how to route?
is this design recommended?The following is only my opinion:
VTP mode transparent across all devices. Unless you are doing some sort of 802.1x authentication I don't see a need, just headaches.
Make one of the collapsed core members the STP root via the spanning tree prior 0 command for all vlans. Set the other member as a backup with the spanning tree prior 4096 or some other small value for all vlans.
Create a trunk between the collapsed core members trunking all vlans.
Create a trunk from each access switch to each collapsed core member and trunk the appropriate vlans, or all.
Create your layer 3 interfaces for the vlans on the collapsed core members and set up redundancy via HSRP or VRRP. -
Connecting a Dell B22 FEX to Nexus 6001 and storage
Hi Folks,
We have a setup where we are running a Dell B22 FEX in Blade enviornment and want to connect the B22 FEX to a cisco Nexus 6001 switch. As per NX-OS release note, B22 FEX and 6001 Nexus connectivity is supported.
Now after connecting to Nexus 6001, how do i get access to storage pool or SAN fabric ? As per another thread of discussion, Nexus 6001 does not support direct fabric attachment at this point in time. So how do we bridge these two elements to a storage fabric ??

Added support for the Cisco Nexus B22 Dell Fabric Extender for Cisco Nexus 6000 Series switches starting with the 6.0(2)N1(2) release."
This is the exact reason we bought it. We have a enviornment where we are running Dell B22 FEX. Idea is to connect the B22 FEX into Nexus 6001. We are confuse at this point. After connecting the Dell B22 FEX to Nexus 6001, how to access the storage network or storage fabric ??

The function should be the same for all FEXs regardless of what parent switch they connect to. to.

You can connect any edge switch that leverages a link redundancy mechanism not dependent on spanning tree such as Cisco FlexLink or vPC
FelxLink is a different technology that does not use STP, but not every switch platform supports FelxLink. FlexLink is not used very often, as other technologies like VSS, VPC and stacking has emerged.

Cisco nexus 6001 not a supported device on cisco prime infrastructure 2.1?
I have installed Cisco Prime Infrastructure 2.2 and Prime Infrastructure still doesn't seem to support the Nexus 6001 platform? Can someone tell me if Cisco Prime Infrastructure will ever support the Cisco Nexus 6001 platform or is there any plans to support it in any future device packs?
The Nexus 6001 isn't currently supported in PI 2.1. There's no workaround except to wait for a device or product update that adds support. Right now I know the 9000 series is on the 2.2 roadmap but I haven't seen any reference to the 6001 and PI.
Interestingly, Prime LMS does support both the 6001 and 6004. Reference. -
Anybody seen this or know how to get the switch to boot back into NX-OS? We upgraded a pair of Nexus 6001s to 6.0(2)N2(1)... one came up fine, the other keeps coming up to a BASH-3.2# prompt and we appear to have full root access.
I'm guessing this is not normal behavior but I'm trying to see if anybody has seen this while we get TAC on it. I attached a screenshot for your viewing pleasure.

Symptom:
Nexus 6000 might experience unexpected reload when the switch is getting booted up after being upgraded using
install all
command. It will take a long time for the switch to boot up. Instead of booting all the way, the console will boot in bash mode. Eventually the switch would experience a crash.
Conditions:
Issue happens after upgrading switch from
6.0(2)N1(2)
to
6.0(2)N2(1)
and when using
install all
command to upgrade.
Workaround:
power cycle the switch to restore services.

Need advice for starting a Managed Cloud Service for Small Businesses
I hope this is in the right forum. I have done a lot of research and searching but havent found anything that specifically answers, in total, what I am wanting to accomplish. I live in a small town and want to start a Managed Cloud Services for
small to small-medium business in my area (2-30 users for each business). I want to market this to have businesses replace their in-house server(s) to virtual ones I would host in a local Data Center with my own equipment that I would maintain. I
am just starting off so I don't have any clients I do this for currently, but I get asked about this frequently. I want to run a 2012 R2 Domain Controller and a Hyper-V 2012 R2 server. The virtual servers I will host are going to be for AD, RDS,
FTP, and files. Software examples that people are going to be using these virtual servers for are Quickbooks, Sage Accounting, Remote Desktop or RemoteApp, custom CRM or small database software, Office 2013, etc. No Exchange currently but will
probably configure something for that in the future (maybe run 1-3 virtually for now if someone asks, but will only do it if the user base is fairly small ~under 10 users). I only have 1 static IP to work with over a 100Mbps connection up and down.
For hardware, I am figuring something along the lines of this:
(1) 1U, single CPU w/2-4 cores, 8GB, 2x73GB SAS 10k RAID 1, Dual PSU, running Windows Server 2012 R2
Domain Controller
(1) 2U, 2x 8-core Xeon ~2.6Ghz, 80GB RAM, 8x600GB SAS 15k in Raid 10 for Storage (VHDX files, etc), RAID 1 small Basic drives (or USB stick) for OS, Dual PSU, Quad GB Nic which I can use for load balancing/teaming, Hyper-V

Most of my questions are about the best way to configure this. I am planning on managing my Hyper-V from the physical Domain Controller server. Each virtual server will have RDS & (possibly) AD services on a single server.
1) I want to replicate the physical Domain Controller. Should I get another server or just virtualize the replica in Hyper-V? I understand that if the Hyper-V goes down, so does my DC replica.
2) Should I use my Domain Controller to manage ALL users on each virtual Server, by creating separate Organizational Units for each business?
3) Should I setup my domain controller with Hyper-V management and then each Virtual Server I setup be a separate domain (Ex. mydomain.local, business1.local, business2.local, etc)? Each one has no connection to any
other, completely seperate. Or should I do subdomains (business1.mydomain.local).
4) What I have read is that Subdomains are a pain to manage with user rights, etc. I want to keep each server complete separated from one another over a network connection, I suppose the VLan through Hyper-V options
do this? I dont want wondering users to stumble upon another businesses files (I know they would probably be prompted with a login for that business/domain).
5) For each virtual server, I want to create and have an HTTP subdomain point to that server from my domain name. (Ex: business1.mydomain.com, business2.mydomain.com, etc.) I want them to be able to have access to
only their RemoteApps or be able to type that address in their Remote Desktop program as the host name. This would be for viewing the RemoteApp login page and RemoteApps for that business over HTTP/S through a browser.
6) If I do not have separate DC's in each virtual and my main DC manages each one, is their a way to connect up each companies RemoteApps using a single site that only shows what they are assigned to based upon their login?
(Ex. http://login.mydomain.com which then shows that user what they are assigned on their own virtual server)
7) Since each business will use the same ports for RemoteApp (443) & RDC (3389 unless I change it), how would I setup the subdomains to point to their correct server and not overlap for mess with any of the other servers
since its all over 1 static WAN IP for all servers. Thats why I figured setting up IIS subdomains would solve this.
8) For backups or Hyper-V replication, is it better to have software that backs up the ENTIRE Hyper-V server (Acronis Advanced Backup for Hyper-V) as well as replication or just backups? Or should I do separate file
backup on each virtual with a replica? Can a replica be a slower server since its just a backup? (Ex. 1x 8 core, 80GB, 8x600GB 10k SAS)
9) For the servers that will be using FTP, can I again rely on the subdomains to determine which server to connect to on port 21 without changing each FTP servers ports? I just want each business/person to type in
the subdomain for their business and it connect up to their assigned FTP directory over port 21.
10) If the physical DC manages DNS for all Virtual servers, can I forward sub domain requests to the proper virtual server so they connect to the correct RemoteApp screen etc. Again all I have is 1 IP.
I hope all of these questions make sense. I just want every business to be independent of each other on the Hyper-V, each on their own virtual server, all without changing default ports on each server, each server running RDS, (possibly) AD, (a few) FTP,
and all over a common single WAN IP. Hoping subdomains (possibly managed through IIS on the physical DC) will redirect users to their appropriate virtual server.If you really want to run your own multi-tenant service provider cloud, Microsoft has defined the whole setup needed.

experience with a Azure look and feel. It is not Azure, but the Azure pack is a series of applications, some of which came from Azure, the provides Azure-like capabilities only in a service provider type of environment.
Whether you use my document or not (which has actually corrected errors found in the Microsoft documentation), you should take a look at it to see what it takes to put something like this up, if you are really serious about it. It is not a small undertaking.

Do not Extract from PSA but Access Data Source (for Small Amounts of Data)

In the DTP, the above option is available for Full Loads for certain extractors but not for others, particularly, certain HR extractors?

There is no special setting for this, Please see the detail description:
Data is not extracted from the PSA for the DataSource; it is requested from the data source directly at DTP runtime.
Use
You use this mode for small data sets and full uploads, for example, small sets of master data. With file source systems, note that the file has to be available on the application server.
Dependencies
You do not have to create an InfoPackage in order to extract data from the source.
Data in the data source is accessed in "direct access mode". This has certain consequences, especially if you are extracting data from SAPI systems:
Data is extracted synchronously. This places a particular demand on the main memory, especially in remote systems.
The SAPI extractors may respond differently than during asynchronous load since they receive information by direct access.
SAPI customer enhancements are not processed. Fields that have been added using the append technology of the DataSource remain empty. The exits RSAP0001, exit_saplrsap_001, exit_saplrsap_002, exit_saplrsap_004 do not run.
If errors occur during processing in BI, you have to extract the data again since the PSA is not available as a buffer. This means that deltas are not possible.
In the DTP, the filter only contains fields that the DataSource allows as selection fields. With an intermediary PSA, you can filter in the DTP by any field.

Been using an Avastor HDX-800 for storage and backup, also a SUPERDISK for smaller stuff; recently the SUPERDISK does not appear on the screen, and the light blinks while you hear it spin, also the Avastor has started to have the same problem, both USB conncected, both worked well before, but both now spinning, blinking, and not showing up on the screen as before,
Interestingly they both appear in the System Profiler, but just not working the same as before
I have tried other USB ports, but the same responce,yes I did reset the PRAM, but no benefit, still the same problem
my usb devices are: keyboard, mouse, printer, SD-USB-M3, and LaCie d2 DVDRW:

Error when installing Lenovo solutions for small business [Screenie included]
Hello everyone.
Recently, I tried opening the pre-installed Lenovo solutions for Small Business software on my Lenovo e530 running Windows 7 Professional 64-bit version (Upgraded from Win 7 Home Prem 64-bit) but failed after getting a message for encountering a critical problem of some sort. I then tried restarting my computer and that did not solve the problem. And then, I decided to install an upgrade version of it from this website http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?DocID=DS030146. But before that I uninstalled the previous version by uninstalling Intel Small Business advantage customizations with Revo Uninstaller and I deleted all the related folders too with a thorough scan. Out of my expection, I got this message below saying that I could not proceed due to some unspecified error. Has anyone encountered the same problem before? Does anyone have a solution for this? I'm not sure if that's my computer's problem or from the driver itself. Thank you for your attention to this issue.Hi, dougy
This should be configurable under msconfig. This is a program that you can use to tell your computer which programs you want to start when Windows starts. To get to this program, type msconfig into the search bar in the Start menu. A window should appear. Check under the Startup tab and make sure that the Lenovo Solutions for Small Business program does not have a checkmark next to it. This should prevent this program from starting up when your computer turns on.

I was trying to use something like this: <img src="smallpic.jpg" width="100" height="142" style="padding-top:23px;" onmouseover="showtrail(310,440,'largepic.jpg');" onmouseout="hidetrail();" />
But you can't use img src or tag_small image in the display...Well, jusing javascript appears to be a problem in that , if I use js the item pops up but is within the narrow table cell frame of the small item display and is clipped. And CSS hover class doesn't seem to work either, even with a high z-index. Not sure it is possible with the way BC works with catalogs..? When I did get the js to work, it opens the large image of the last item on the page, not the one you hover over.
Anyone else get that feature to work?
