  • [SOLVED] Issue with eth0 (eth0: timed out)

    Hi there people, just installed Arch on my PC (again). The first time I had no problems with this, but now it is really bothering me. Well, my PC only access the net via wireless, so I have no wired connection for it. Here's my /etc/rc.conf:
    # /etc/rc.conf
    eth0="dhcp"
    wlan0="dhcp"
    wlan_wlan0="wlan0 essid MySpot key ABCDEFABCDEF1234567ABCDEFC"
    INTERFACES=(eth0 wlan0)
    Well, everything is working fine, I can get access to the internet on bootup. My only concern is that my system is taking awfully long to boot. It takes about 1-2 minutes on "::Starting Network", then it shows me "eth0: timed out". Then it takes about 10 secs to start my wlan0 interface and the system finishes booting. I had previously installed Arch 2008.12, and the Starting Network only took about 10 secs to start my wlan0. I have already tried commenting out the eth0 line and putting a ! in front of eth0 on INTERFACES, but doing that only shows me an error message for my wlan0 and render my internet unusable on system bootup. So, my questions are:
    1) Do I really need the eth0 interface for my connection (since I'm using wlan0 for wireless connection) ? Why can't I comment it out?
    2) If I really need eth0, how can I make my boot time go faster, or how can I make it not time out?
    Thanks in advance for any help given...
    EDIT: problem solved, see Post 8 below for answers...

    Thanks for answering. Well, I think eth0 is being detected correctly. Here is the output for ifconfig:

    Well, I hope that can help. Searched the net and the forums, and every problem related to this is with people who are actually trying to use the eth0 interface for connection. In my case, I don't think I need it, I only need the wlan0. What I'm trying to do is get rid of eth0 while letting wlan0 work.

  • Share with Vimeo is timing out

    I recently upgraded to Yosemite OSX and Final Cut Pro X will not Share with Vimeo. I get a "Vimeo timed out" error. I have been using that for a year now flawlessly and now it won't upload large files. I am a Vimeo Pro user. Size is not a problem.
    Any help? I have tried resigning in on Vimeo inside FCPX but it still won't upload.

    Sorry  not to be clearer. I meant the library bundle. When you share>Vimeo, FCP first compresses the movie as an H.264 MOV. That file is saved in the Share Items folder in the library until the upload is complete an the session has been closed out. I've never run into a timed out message with Vimeo – although I don't upload files as large as yours and I usually use the Vimeo uploader after exporting a master file.

  • How do I fix problems with iTunes Store timing out when I search for music?

    So, I downloaded iOS 7 not too long ago. However, when I tried to do a search on the iTunes Store app, it keeps timing out (it also stalls when I attempt view a song list on a specific album. My phone has no cosmetic or liquid damage, and. I have already performed a soft reset on the phone. Does anybody have a solution, or is this just a bug in the new software that needs to be fixed?

    Also having problems connecting to the App Store without it timing out.

  • Connection with mail keeps timing out

    Every time I check my mail it times out and I can't recieve mail, but can send it. The error reads "The sever error encountered was: The connection to the server "mail.mac.com" on port 143 timed out"" Anyone understand this?

    any firewalls enabled?
    if your email provider supports ssl, you can also try changing port to 993 and enable SSL to see if that allows you to get incoming mail (unde Mail/Preferences/Accounts/Advanced)

  • I have a problem with slow to timed out upload for emails with attachments.

    Hi,
    I hope I have landed in the right place?
    The problem is relvatively new not linked to any specific upgrade event that I can recall.
    I have an iMac in small office net, hard wired to a fritzbox.
    1. The slow upload is independent of email software (Thunderbird and OS Mail) - slow for both (account data has been checked and re-checked and is OK).
    2. Uploads from Ipad via WiFi appear normal and acceptable.
    3. Uploads from my mac mini in the office are OK, for all accounts.
    4. Sophos anti-virus reveals nothing sinister.
    Does anyone have any ideas of what might be casuing this tardy and very frustrating functionality?
    I must apologize if I have landed in the wrong place and would some kind soul might guide me to where I should be.
    Many thanks
    Mevado

    What app are you using? From the message it sounds like a specific site problem.. For general wifi problem:
    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
    Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
    least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Power off and then back on the router
    - Reset network settings: Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings
    - iOS: Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections
    - iOS: Recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers and access points
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up

  • Request timed out when purchasing music. Fresh install of Win7.

    For the past couple months I have have not been able to purchase music off iTunes without first going into Add/Remove programs and doing a "Repair" to iTunes. Windows Firewall wasn't blocking anything from Apple and even with the firewall totally disabled I would still get the "Request timed out" error. And at the same time I'm getting these errors, a Podcast can be in the background downloading or I can be previewing a song! I eventually gave up and just figured its some random windows bug that isn't very common or its just another example of iTunes sucking for Windows and Apple not caring. I just purchased most of my music off AmazonMP3 which I've been doing more and more of anyway.
    Yesterday I installed a new HDD and installed a fresh copy of Windows 7 Home Premium from my retail disc. I Installed all the updates then proceeded to install my software and put all my media back in-place. I'm a backup neat-freak so all this happen pretty easily and fast. I purchased a song off iTunes and was pleased to see it working again. Well here I am again suddenly having the issue with the connection timing out when purchasing a song. Firewall is configured fine and again I even disabled it. I know its not Windows now as there haven't been any new Drivers or Updates installed since I last purchased a song. I even tried different network adapters! What the heck is going on?

    This error is specific to RAS. The default CORBA request timeout is 10 minute = 600000 ms. When the RAS SDK does not get the reponse back from RAS server in 600000 ms it throws this message. Why it works in InfoView\CMC what I believe you refer to as "Front End' application is because InfoView\ CMC don't use RAS.
    1. First make sure that a smaller report wich runs pretty fast ( 1-2 min) works. This will confirm that there is no connectivitiy issues between RAS and RAS SDK.
    2. If you get the efrror for every single report, even the smaller ones, make sure the box running RAS and RAS SDK code( in case they are 2 different) can ping each other with IP, shortname and FQDN. If there is a firewall between them, the RAS port needs to be opened for bidirectional communication. By default RAS chooses a random port for communication with SDK but within CMC you can configure it to use a specific port and open it.
    3. If the issue is specific only to reports that are long running, typically more than 10 minutes, then you need to inclease the CORBA timeout to a value more than what the reports typically would take to process. This is done on client code side or IIS in this case.
    Here are the steps:
    Make the following changes on the application server/system.
    Open RegEdit by going to Start > Run and typing in regedit.exe. Then click Ok.
    Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Business Objects\Suite 11.5\Report Application Server\Client SDK\CorbaAdapter
    Change the value of SendRequestTimeout(ms) to 100000.
    Change the value of WaitReplyTimeout(ms) to 6,000,000 ms. The default value is 600,000 ms and may not be long enough.
    Restart IIS by going to Start > Run and typing in iisreset. Then click Ok.
    Retry the failing application.

    This error should be easy to fix

  • Losing Airport/ Get message "connection timed out" when try to re-connect

    This has happened several times over the past few days. First time, trying to re-connect, it didn't see my network name. Then re-entered name, selected/joined, password shows up, but connection times out. Tonight, it saw my name, password showed up, but wouldn't connect, not matter what, with message "connection timed out."
    Both times the only thing that worked was a re-start. Tonight, even after a re-start, got "connection timed out" message at first, but was able to get back on by clicking on the icon. I see the following logs.
    Error: airportd MIG failed = -6 ((null)) (port = 26123)
    Macintosh-3 Apple80211Agent[91]: Error joining .......: Connection timeout (-6 timeout connecting)
    Macintosh-3 airportd[673]: Error: Apple80211Associate() failed -6
    Until this happens, the connection is solid, usually with 54 mbs. I've googled around for these logs, but haven't seen anything conclusive. Any ideas? Thanks.

    Don't mean to add to the possible confusion here, but most newer routers (Apple included) allow their users to "hide" their network, so it's also very possible and likely in an apartment situation that you can pick up interference from a network that you or Air Radar cannot "see".
    So, trying to find the "right" channel becomes a bit more of guessing game.
    Understand that you need "g" for your devices. For the future though, you might watch the Air Radar screen for channels in the 36-48 and 149-161 range to see how much less activity is going on there.

  • Connection timed out, when server is present in  far-off place

    We have a web application on JBoss-3.2.3. It makes use of Applets. To paint the applet, a request is sent to a server using a HttpURLConnection. Evertyhing works fine when the browser(client) and the server are on the same network. However, if the client(browser) is in Australia and the server in India(i.e. long distance between server and client), then the Applet crashes with a Connection timed out exception. Any solution for this?
    The code looks something like:
    URL url = new URL(urlString);
    HttpURLConnection connection = (HttpURLConnection) url.openConnection();
    connection.setDoOutput(true);
    connection.connect();

    So I am facing the weirdest network/server problem ever!I have a customer which had a Supermicro server (Was there before me!). It was never used and they didn't know the password so i decided to format and re-install Windows Server 2012 R2 on it. I promoted it to a new domain and setup Windows Essentials so I could setup RDWeb for them quickly. They were up and running great. I also installed Trend Micro on the server and pushed it out to the client PC's. A little more info about my network before i get into the gritty. I have Brighthouse cable 35Mbps as an ISP with an ARRIS modem, a Ubiquiti Edgerouter Lite as my firewall and a cisco sg200-26 as my core switch. It's not a big location. We randomly started getting request timed out at the gateway level and the firewall level from outside and internet was dropping. We worked for weeks...

  • Timed out waiting for ccmexec service to be fully operational

    We are deploying Windows 7 in an SCCM 2007 R3 SP2 environment.  Some of the clients we target fail the task sequence with the error, "Timed out waiting for ccmexec service to be fully operational".  Below is the relevant part of the SMSTS.LOG
    file:
    Succeeded loading resource DLL 'C:\Windows\system32\CCM\1033\TSRES.DLL'
    Failed to create an instance of COM progress UI object. Error code 0x80040154
    Timed out waiting for ccmexec service to be fully operational

    Failed to wait for Ccmexec service to be fully operational (0x80004005)
    I have seen several posts with this error that say to create the "ConfigMgr Remote Control Users" group.
    Here is an example.  We have created this group locally AND on the domain, but we still see this failure on about 10% of clients that we target.  Any other ideas what might be creating this issue?
    Thanks,
    FP

    After a restart in the task sequence (not the same restart every time) the ccmexec process doesn´t seem to want to start again. The problem is intermittent and does not occure on every installation, though quite frequently.
    In the smsts.log you get "waiting for the ccmexec process to start" and "Waiting for CcmExec service to be fully operational", eventually it times out and the installation fails. If we start a command prompt and start the service manually
    the installation continues though.
    The strange thing is, this only seems to happen on a specific computer model. We have tried updating BIOS and drivers to the latest version, but no success.

  • 'Read timed out' oddity

    http://www.smgradio.com/core/podcasts/rss.xml?title=thegeoffshow
    Submitting this XML file returns "Read timed out".
    Curiously, if I change the URL to "www1.smgradio.com" then it work; that's one of the load-balanced servers that live behind www.smgradio.com. It also works correctly if I manually subscribe this address into iTunes.
    Anyone any idea what we're doing wrong?

    Mike,
    http://www1.smgradio.com/core/podcasts/rss.xml?title=thegeoffshow
    ...works fine.
    http://www.smgradio.com/core/podcasts/rss.xml?title=thegeoffshow
    ...doesn't work at all with a "read timed out" error.
    They're identical files, and both work when manually entered into the iTunes program.
    If it was me, I'd think that Apple's DNS isn't working properly; but it looks as if we're moderately blameless in terms of the links - would you agree?

  • Network Connection Timed Out when downloading from...

    I have only had BT broadband for a few months but am regretting it due to the huge number of dropouts I have - lose connection many times daily which is a big pain as I rely on this for my work.
    One specific problem that has reared its head recently is if I try to download latest iphone upgrade from Itunes then after about 30 seconds it fails with "Network Connection Timed Out' and the connection breaks. This happens every time I try.
    Also sometimes when I access sites I get TCP Network Error.
    I know these problems are to do with the BTHub Router because if I switch to using my old Netgear Router which is still running on another line in the house (I need the backup as BT fails so often) then all works fine.
    Can anybody help - or should I just throw it all away and try another provider?

    Hi can youplease do the following
    1 Bt quiet line test dial 17070 option 2 you should hear no noise any thing heard should be reported to Bt faults on 151 but do not mention broadband when you call once any noise is removed broadband should improve
    2 run a Bt speed test speedtester.bt.com andpost back here the results in full
    3 obtain your full hub stats byentering 192.168.1.254 into to your browser address bar and navigating to connection and post the full details back here then someone will be able to offer more help about your connection

  • Uploading to YouTube - Keeps "timing out"

    Hello, I'm trying to post the first video I made using iMovie 08 to YouTube. It's 9.06 minutes long and I'm using the Share > YouTube option.
    I've tried it several times and it takes approx 15 mins to upload then I get a message saying
    Communication Error
    An error occurred during communication with the server ("timed out"). Please make sure you are connected to the internet, and then try again.
    I have tried several times and my internet connection is fine. Each time I try it goes as far as "less than a minute" of upload.
    Is there another way of doing it? i.e, saving it (somehow) and using the YouTube uploader?
    Cheers

    I never would have guessing zapping the PRAM would have done anything. Just in case you haven't tried this, I would take a visit to the mobileme support site and see if there are any current issues (there are none as of writing this). The support site is here:
    http://www.apple.com/support/mobileme/
    I would go down to the bottom of the page and under 'topics' choose 'mobileme mail' then 'receiving mail'. Seeing as you've already removed the account completely and re-setup from scratch, I would give the 'Chat' feature a try. The fact that the AOL account is working, really points in the direction of the specific email provider your using; in this case Apple's. You could try setting up the account in a new admin user to see if the issuer persists.

  • Shake and Shuffle While Screen's Timed Out?

    Is the Shake to Shuffle feature not supposed to work when the screen is timed out?  If so, to me, this is incredibly restrictive.  I'd assume the shake to shuffle feature is added specifically so one can skip the song while performing some other activity - not requiring two hands.  If I have to 'wake' my I-pod when I want to skip a song, why even add the shake to shuffle feature?
    For instance.  I bought my Nano specifically to listen to while I go on my long motorcycle rides.  It's great.  I put it on a wristband and run the cord up my jacket.  I'd like to wear it on my left wrist and be able to give my left (clutch-hand) wrist a good shake when I want to skip a song, but I can't, as the screen times out pretty quickly and this disables the feature.
    Please, in a future firmware update, can this issue be addressed?  Either by allowing users to turn off the screen time-out, or by allowing a toggle to make the shake to shuffle feature work with the screen timed out?
    Thanks

    I just found this in the iPod's User Guide: http://manuals.info.apple.com/en_US/iPod_nano_6thgen_User_Guide.pdf
    Use “Shake to Shuffle”
    When the screen is on, you can give iPod nano a quick shake to skip to a random song. If the screen is off, press the Sleep/Wake button before you shake. “Shake to Shuffle” is on by default, but you can turn it off in Settings > Music.
    So what you are experiencing is the default or expected behavior.  If you are up to it, leave feedback to Apple on this using the form in this link.
    http://www.apple.com/feedback/ipodnano.html
    Is there a setting which will allow me to turn off the sleep feature and just have it go dim?
    There is not.
