Nexus M1 Series 32 port 10G Module Local Switching Support ?

Hi,
Ive got d 32 port M1 series linecard asic architecture slide below.
There seems to be a local fabric asic on this M1 series card. Anyone knows whether if this module supports local switching and what is the capacity of local switching ?
We are all aware that this module sits 80G on the chassis fabric modules.
Thanks.

4:1 mux is downstream from replication ASIC which has total 10Gb toward each front panel port-group. So correct you can never put more than 10Gbit/s in/out combined across the ports in one port-group.
As an example say ports 1,3,5,7 each receive 10Gbit/s unicast for ports 9,11,13,15 (1->9, 3->11, ..) The port-group only has 10Gbit/s upwards so incoming excess is dropped at mux and depending on packet ordering you'd get around 2.5Gbit/s out on each port 9,11,13,15.
This is why the module has an 80Gb fabric connection, as there is only 80Gb from replication down to front-panel ports the fabric ASIC will never see more than 80Gbit/s so doesn't need any more channels.
Cheers,
/Phil

Hi, Whether Cisco MDS 9222i 10G Module  DS-X9704 supports FCoE? i saw IP over FC in the data sheet of this module but not FCoE?

Also whether this 10 G interface can work as an Ethernet port and not just a FiberChannel port?

  • Can a Nexus 1000v be configured to NOT do local switching in an ESX host?

Before the big YES, use an external Nexus switch and use VN-Tag. The question is when there is a 3120 in a blade chassis that connects to the ESX hosts that have a 1000v installed on the ESX host. So, first hop outside the ESX host is not a Nexus box.
Looking for if this is possible, if so how, and if not, where that might be documented. I have a client who's security policy prohibits switching (yes, even on the same VLAN) within a host (in this case blade server). Oh and there is an insistance to use 3120s inside the blade chassis.
Has to be the strangest request I have had in a while.
Any data would be GREATY appreciated!

    Thanks for the follow up.
So by private VLANs, are you referring to "PVLAN":
"PVLANs: PVLANs are a new feature available with the VMware vDS and the Cisco Nexus
1000V Series. PVLANs provide a simple mechanism for isolating virtual machines in the
same VLAN from each other. The VMware vDS implements PVLAN enforcement at the
destination host. The Cisco Nexus 1000V Series supports a highly efficient enforcement
mechanism that filters packets at the source rather than at the destination, helping ensure
that no unwanted traffic traverses the physical network and so increasing the network
bandwidth available to other virtual machines"

  • WS-X4306-GB - Catalyst 4500 6-port GBIC Module & FC Tape Libraries

    WS-X4306-GB - Catalyst 4500 6-port GBIC Module & FC Tape Libraries
I have several Tape Autoloader Libraries from Dell which have Fibre Channel interfaces. I have loop switches that these connect to today. I also have a Catalyst 4506 with a WS-X4306-GB - 6-port GBIC Module. I would like to use the X4306 as a loop switch. Some of the libraries can also connect via point-to-point FC.
Can this be done? If yes, how do I start in making this happen?
    Thank You.

Sorry but the Catalyst 4500 does not support Fibre Channel connections on the WS-X4306-GB (or on any card). It's strictly an Ethernet switch. Reference
To mix and match Ethernet and FC interfaces, you'd have to be on a new platform like the Nexus 5k series - specifically the UP (Unified Port) variants.

    Hello Dhanesh,
    thanks for your reply.
We have 2 3548 licensed exactly as your Nexus.
After a reboot of the two Nexus the first 4 ports (of the two) had problems (no input packets, only ouput packets, so unusable). There was connected devices with GLC-T, so they worked at 1 G, not 10G.
We opened a TAC Case about this and, after remote session and many analysis, the engineer decided to replace the two devices.
Despite this I have still some doubt.
I found the discussion below and I post some logs of one of the Nexus, we use the 10 G not in a contiguous way.
    Thanks and regards

  • Ask the Expert: Different Flavors and Design with vPC on Cisco Nexus 5000 Series Switches

Welcome to the Cisco® Support Community Ask the Expert conversation.  This is an opportunity to learn and ask questions about Cisco® NX-OS.
The biggest limitation to a classic port channel communication is that the port channel operates only between two devices. To overcome this limitation, Cisco NX-OS has a technology called virtual port channel (vPC). A pair of switches acting as a vPC peer endpoint looks like a single logical entity to port channel attached devices. The two devices that act as the logical port channel endpoint are actually two separate devices. This setup has the benefits of hardware redundancy combined with the benefits offered by a port channel, for example, loop management.
vPC technology is the main factor for success of Cisco Nexus® data center switches such as the Cisco Nexus 5000 Series, Nexus 7000 Series, and Nexus 2000 Series Switches.
This event is focused on discussing all possible types of vPC along-with best practices, failure scenarios, Cisco Technical Assistance Center (TAC) recommendations and troubleshooting

    Hello Gustavo
Please see my responses to your questions:
Yes almost all routing protocols use Multicast to establish adjacencies. We are dealing with two different type of traffic –Control Plane and Data Plane.
Control Plane: To establish Routing adjacency, the first packet (hello) is punted to CPU. So in the case of triangle routed VPC topology as specified on the Operations Guide Link, multicast for routing adjacencies will work. The hellos packets will be exchanged across all 3 routers and adjacency will be formed over VPC links
    http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/switches/datacenter/nexus5000/sw/operations/n5k_L3_w_vpc_5500platform.html#wp999181
Now for Data Plane we have two types of traffic – Unicast and Multicast.
The Unicast traffic will not have any forwarding issues, but because the Layer 3 ECMP and port channel run independent hash calculations there is a possibility that when the Layer 3 ECMP chooses N5k-1 as the Layer 3 next hop for a destination address while the port channel hashing chooses the physical link toward N5k-2. In this scenario,N5k-2 receives packets from R with the N5k-1 MAC as the destination MAC.
Sending traffic over the peer-link to the correct gateway is acceptable for data forwarding, but it is suboptimal because it makes traffic cross the peer link when the traffic could be routed directly.
For that topology, Multicast Traffic might have complete traffic loss due to the fact that when a PIM router is connected to Cisco Nexus 5500 Platform switches in a vPC topology, the PIM join messages are received only by one switch. The multicast data might be received by the other switch.
The Loop avoidance works little different across Nexus 5000 and Nexus 7000.
Similarity: For both products, loop avoidance is possible due to VSL bit
The VSL bit is set in the DBUS header internal to the Nexus.
It is not something that is set in the ethernet packet that can be identified. The VSL bit is set on the port asic for the port used for the vPC peer link, so if you have Nexus A and Nexus B configured for vPC and a packet leaves Nexus A towards Nexus B, Nexus B will set the VSL bit on the ingress port ASIC. This is not something that would traverse the peer link.
This mechanism is used for loop prevention within the chassis.
The idea being that if the port came in the peer link from the vPC peer, the system makes the assumption that the vPC peer would have forwarded this packet out the vPC-enabled port-channels towards the end device, so the egress vpc interface's port-asic will filter the packet on egress.
Differences:  In Nexus 5000 when it has to do L3-to-L2 lookup for forwarding traffic, the VSL bit is cleared and so the traffic is not dropped as compared to Nexus 7000 and Nexus 3000.
It still does loop prevention but the L3-to-L2 lookup is different in Nexus 5000 and Nexus 7000.
For more details please see below presentation:
    https://supportforums.cisco.com/sites/default/files/session_14-_nexus.pdf
DCI Scenario:  If 2 pairs are of Nexus 5000 then separation of L3/L2 links is not needed.
But in most scenarios I have seen pair of Nexus 5000 with pair of Nexus 7000 over DCI or 2 pairs of Nexus 7000 over DCI. If Nexus 7000 are used then L3 and L2 links are required for sure as mentioned on above presentation link.
Let us know if you have further questions.
    Thanks,
    Vishal

  • SATA 1 port or SER 1 port?? Help

If I'm building a new rig and all I'm installing for a hard drive is a 160GB Seagate SATA drive but am not going to be using RAID at all, should I use the SATA 1 port or the SER 1 port on the mobo?  Does it matter?
And, do I need to load the drivers from both disks that came with the mobo or just the ones that apply to the particular port I use?  The mobo came with a Promise 376/378 Driver floppy and a VT8237 Driver Floppy.
    Here are some specs:
    AMD 64 3200+
    MSI K8T-NEO FIS2R
    Seagate 160GB SATA hard drive
    CD-ROM/DVD drive
I've been trying to build this computer for a friend for about two weeks and we've encountered some problems during Windows XP Pro installation.  After what we thought was a successful install of XP and several days of use, we got an Unmountable Boot Volume blue screen as XP loaded.  I ran diagnostic utilities for the hard drive which showed no problems with it.
The other day we did a fresh installation of XP but this time we received a Windows Logo Testing error message for the WinXP Promise SATA378 IDE Controller.  We also got Device Installer errors for the diskdrive, CD-ROM and battery.
What's weird now is that the CD-Rom is not even listed as a drive in the My Computer tab.  All it shows there is the C: hard drive and A: floppy drive.  If we put a CD into the drive, the light comes on for a few seconds but nothing happens.  Otherwise, I'm certain that the CD-rom drive itself is working properly.
    Can anyone help??

Okay, I've been testing out the RAM for a couple of hours now on Memtest86 while tweaking the BIOS settings.  The memory we have is 2x512 Mushkin 3200 Level 1.
So far, nothing has yielded perfect error-free test cycles in Memtest.  I've had a few cycles where i got as little as 4 errors.  Some full cycles yielded 6 errors, another one, 9.  Some were as high as 8,500+.
I have not tested the individual RAM modules yet.  I'll do that tomorrow.
This particular board seems to like the DDR333 setting better than DDR400 - at least as far as Memtest goes.  I've tested mostly in Slots 1 and 2 and then in 1 and 3.  When I put the sticks in Slots 2 and 3 I got a BSOD with some sort of Bad_Config_ message.  I found this interesting since the mobo manual on page 2-11 lists Slots 2 and 3 at DDR333 as a recommended combination.
Also, for whatever it's worth, most if not all of the Memtest errors are occurring during Tests 5 and 7.  I think the Memtest86 website notes this as being common among AMD64 CPUs.
Anyway, I have two specific questions:
    1) Should I be tweaking the CAS latency setting in BIOS?? I know this is memory related but I don't even know what it does.
    2) As far as Memtest goes, how good is good enough before I should consider RMA'ing a RAM module?  Should I expect perfect error-free Memtest scores??  Should I give the system to my friend and see if he experiences any crashes?  I'm not sure at what point to be satisfied that the memory we have is good or defective.
    Thanks.

  • Error on nexus 7k series " operation failed.the fabric is already locked"

getting following error on nexus 7k series switch: error is " operation failed.the fabric is already locked", while removing ntp commands (no ntp server 10.101.1.1) from switch. Please help.

I had the same error message, only in my situation Outlook would only open successfully every 4 or 5 attempts. When Outlook would open (versus just hanging at the splash screen), I would get two dialog boxes with the warning/error message.
After I clicked okay I could get into Outlook.
Previously I experienced this problem running my Office 2010 client with my Exchange 2007 mailbox on my old laptop.  The problem followed my mailbox through an Exchange 2010 migration (so new Exchange org), client upgrade to Outlook 2013, and a new
laptop (so I knew it wasn't a corrupt profile).  This led me to the conclusion that it was a corrupt item(s) in my mailbox.
To resolve the issue, I archived *everything* in my mailbox to a PST file, ran SCANPST to fix the corruption, and then uploaded everything back into my Exchange mailbox one folder at a time, stopping after each folder to close and restart Outlook so I could
narrow down which folder had the corrupt item if the problem recurred.  I'm happy to say my issue is now resolved.

  • 4002 - first define the numbering series in the administration module

    Hi all,
I have created the User tables and object type as Document and Document Rows.
While adding the records thru DI API objects using SAPbobsCOM.UserTable i am getting error like
4002 - "first define the numbering series in the administration module".
Is it possible to add the Document and Document rows tables or Master Data and Master Data rows tables thru DI API objects.
    Please confirm.
    Regards,
    Benjamin Rosary.B

As far as I know this is not possible. You can't add to a table that is not of type "No Object" using the DI API.

  • 10G Module for 3750X Hotswappable??

    Hey,
The Cisco documentation seems to be unclear on whether the 10G Module is hotswappable.
    Not
Not sure what they are saying here.
"Although network modules are hot-swappable, we recommend installing a network module before powering the switch."
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/switches/lan/catalyst3750x_3560x/hardware/install/notes/net_mod_note.html#wp128946
    What do you think?
    Thanks, Pat

    Hi,
I would agree with the comments above, first the modules are hotswappable, so they are designed to be able to be installed in a running system, however it is always preferable to not install modules in a running environment due to the risk of damaging the connectors.
    Hope this helps.

  • Catalyst 3850 Stack - 10G Modules

I have installed a (3) switch stack of Catalyst 3850 switches. I installed a 10G module in the 1st switch (the master) configured it and plugged it into the network and all works fine. Now I would like to add a second 10 Gigabit Ethernet connection to the stack in a channel group. When I install the 10G module into the standby switch (switch 3) I can do a "show inventory" and the 10G module is there. I can configure TenGigabitEthernet 3/1/3 and do a show run interface TenGigabitEthernet 3/1/3 all looks normal, but when I do a "show interface status" it is not listed and I cannot get the interface to come up. Is there anything I maybe missing when installing the 10G module or in my configurations?
    Thanks!

MARTIN HUERTER escribió:I have installed a (3) switch stack of Catalyst 3850 switches. Thanks!

  • Visio Stencil Request- Nexus 9000 Series

    Hello there,
I attempted to download the Visio Stencils for the Nexus 9000, but inside was the stencils for the ASR 1000 series. Has anyone else seen this? When can we expect the stencils for the Nexus 9000 series?
    Thanks in advance!

    Hi,
Sorry for not responding more quickly. Unfortunately, I don't know of any reason why this .vss would not open in OmniGraffle since it was produced using the same techniques in our standard production process. The file is saved in Visio 2002 "or later" format for maximum compatibility with Visio. The Omni Group is responsible for the conversion from Visio to OmniGraffle formats so they would be the ones to question about this. Our mission is to support Visio users and our operations are Windows based so we do not test the stencils on Macs although we do our best to produce files that can be used in OmniGraffle.

  • Infrastructure Nexus 7000 Series or 7700 Series.

    Dear,
I have a big question, now the data center infrastructure and equipment changes continuously creating new top models for processing named  Nexus.
I can consider an architecture with Nexus 7K, 5K and 2K for a datacenter or should jump and use Nexus 7700 Series and 9K leveraging its capabilities and new generation?
I've clear demand and size of the data center but what is the best option.
Someone could give me your recommendations.
    Best Regards.

The answer is driven by your business needs.
Install 9Ks if you need to leverage their SDN and ACI capabilities. You also need to remember that the N9Ks are relatively new to the market in comparison to the N7Ks and so their features are still maturing.
However if you don't need this functionality then personally I would install the N77Ks given that they are the newest generation of the N7K switch family.
Whether you also deploy 5Ks and 2Ks depends largely on your overall Top of Rack switch design.
If you choose a middle of row or end of row switch design then the need for these types of switches diminishes. This is based on the assumption that you don't need to leverage the N5Ks fibre channel capabilities.

  • Locale not supported

I updated tarantella native client to
    version 3.42 for solaris2.8.
Now I get the error message
<Failed to process Tarantella server information>
at login. (version 3.3 works fine)
    The command line shows warnings:
Warning: locale not supported by Xlib, locale set to C
Warning: X locale modifiers not supported, using default
It seems to be problem with locale settings, already described in a
    previous newsgroup posting.
Setting LANG=en_GB (or other values) did not help.
Where I can get correct locale-files?
(Not included in the client distributions)
    Thanks a lot,

Thank you for the solution that helped to solve
the locale problem. Unfortunally there is still
    the error
<Failed to process Tarantella server information>
    after approx. 20sec during login.
Our previous version 3.20 works correct
    with the same server/login/pw.
Is there a way to identify (debug) the problem.
    Thank you very much,
