  • Cisco Nexus 5596 does not boots up after NX-OS upgrade 5.1.3.N1.1 to 6.0.2.N2.5 [CSCun66310]

    Hello Friends,
Just want to save your precious time & effort, while doing Nexus 5596 upgrades so wanted to share some useful info which you can have a look prior to your upgrades of Cisco Nexus 5596 device.
I recently ran into trouble when upgarding one of datacenter switch Nexus 5596 does not boots up and after investigation from Cisco TAC it comes out to be Bug documented below.
    https://tools.cisco.com/bugsearch/bug/CSCun66310/?reffering_site=dumpcr
My Upgrade path of device was : 5.1(3)N1(1)  to  6.0(2)N2(5).
Since this upgarde involves upgrade of Bios and Power sequensor, I was having some doubts to get this succesfully upgraded,  But there was more twist involved in this upgrade which I came to know after contacting Cisco TAC for my died Nexus 5596 device and got info that if you have below impacted version in your Nexus 5596 device and you are planning to do Upgrade, then you migh RUN into this serious BUG aftre which device won't come up at all and only Option left is to replace with RMA device.
PID                            Impacted                   Hardware versions      Updated Versions
    UCS-FI-6296UP                                            1.0                                       1.1
    N5K-C5596UP                                              1.0                                        1.1
    N5K-C5596T                                                 1.1                                         1.2
You can check hardware version using below command from your device.
    5596# show sprom sup | inc H/W
    H/W Version     : 1.1
So please be carefull when planning your Nexus 5596 upgrade and verify above things as this Bug is not present anywhere in Upgrade docuemntations unfortunately.
Hope this will help and save someone's precious Time.

Today "upgraded" our switch (N5k-C5596UP) to from 5.1(2)N1 to 7.0(5) and after reboot no life from the switch either. Even no console response. show sprom sup | inc H/W shows 1:0.
Only thing we could do is RMA the switch. So what must I do with these switches? Have still to do 3 of them.

  • CLI session limit 32 reached. Exiting. on nexus n5k

    Hi Guys ,
I'm having a problem with Nexus n5k , when i'm trying to telnet to the machine ,i get this error :
"CLI session limit 32 reached. Exiting."
I can connect to it by console ,but i don;t know how to clear all those sessions .
    Needs help
    Thanks ,
    Ron

I am also having this issue on out 5Ks.  We resolved the problem before by consoling into the system and doing "show users" and then "clear line (vty-line)".  This will allow you to ssh or telnet into the system again.  But I am wondering how I can determine why this is happening all of a sudden.  I have been working with our Nexus 5K for over a year and a half and have never had this issue.  Now all of a sudden it has happend two time in the last 3 months.  What do I need to look into to resolve this?  I am not not exiting properly and it is not killing the session?  Please advise.
    Scott

  • Please tell me how to connect with FCoE UCS-mini and Nexus N5k (N5K-C5548UP-B-S32)

I have UCS 5108 Blade Server Chassis (with two B200 M3 Blade Servers inside and two FI 6324) connected to Nexus N5k switch through 4x10GE links.
I want to configure the two aggregated channels FCoE (vFC) from chassi to switch.
All instructions I've been seen refer to the fact that UCS-mini must be in the FC end-host mode, but UCSM 3.0 version does not support this mode, what shoud I do?
I set up following the instructions www.cisco.com/c/en/us/support/docs/switches/nexus-5000-series-switches/116248-configure-fcoe-00.html
    But, after setup I have a fault on fabric: FCoE or FC uplink is down on Vsan 500;
And in Nexus: Vsan 500 is down (waiting for flogi)
When I do "show interface vfc 1" from Nexus CLI I see no 'Trunk vsans (up)', but
    'Trunk vsans (initializing)             (500)'
Unfortunately, I can't find technical notes for UCS mini (with UCSM v. 3.0), so may be You can promt any guides or suggestion for this?
    Thank You in advance!

The release notes of 3.0.1e, which is for UCS-mini,
    http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/unified_computing/ucs/release/notes/ucs_3_0_rn.html
    says:
    Unsupported Features
The following features are not supported in Cisco UCS Manager, Release 3.0:
Features, defect fixes, and platforms introduced in Cisco UCS Manager, Release 2.2(2c) and newer that are not explicitly called out in New Features or Resolved Caveats sections of this document.
Some features introduced in Cisco UCS Manager, Release 2.2(1b) and earlier releases:
    –Ethernet Switching Mode
    –FC End Host Mode
    – Private VLANs
    – Port Security
    – KVM Virtualization is not tested (although not explicitly disabled)

You are right, my N2 is N2K-C2248TP-1GE. I cannot change N5K-C5010P-BF software. I need to use 4.2(1)N1(1)
I have found more information in datasheet in Table 3. Cisco Nexus 2000 Series Gigabit Ethernet Fabric Extenders Product Specifications - Minimum Software  - Cisco NX-OS Release 4.2 (Nexus 5000 Series)
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/prod/collateral/switches/ps9441/ps10110/data_sheet_c78-507093.html
And I found information in Release Notes for 4.2(1)N1(1)
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/switches/datacenter/nexus5000/sw/release/notes/Rel_4_2_1_N1_1/Nexus5000_Release_Notes_4_2_1_N1_1.html#wp191436
•Support for the Cisco Nexus 2232 and the Cisco Nexus 2248
But i cannot find information about 4.2(1)N1(1) and N2K-C2248TP-1GE
I just need to be 100% sure.
    Thanks

    That makes sense.
    1. Restore the default VDC config.
    2. Create your second VDC.
    3. Restore the second VDC config.
Don't forget to have a backup of any license files that you may have purchased, for example MPLS.

  • Nexus 5500-UP licensing

I'm trying to build a config for a Nexus N5K-C5548UP-FA that will have a mix of FCoE and native fibre channel ports.  What licensing do I need to purchase for the chassis to support this functionality?  I'm not anticipating that any of the FC connections will be to other MDS appliances if that matters.
Specifically, when do I need these:
    N55-8P-SSK9
    N55-48PF-SSK9
    N5548-FNPV-SSK9
    thanks,
    ds

Current FC FCOE licensing model on N5K is honour based.which comes in increment of 8.
    (N5K-8P-SSK9)  8 port  FC license .
However future model is going restrict on port based lcienses.
After installing N5K-8P-SSK9  license file which is called storage protocol service license.
    you would see
"show license usage" output show as
    ENTERPRISE_PKG                Yes   -   Unused Never       -
    FC_FEATURES_PKG               Yes   -   Unused Never
N55xx-FNPV-SSK9 is only for FCoE NPV mode, not for FC NPV mode. If you'd like to run FC NPV mode you need the Storage Services License, this license also includes the FCoE NPV license.

  • Nexus 5596 reloads with redundant PS after 1 PS breaks down

    Hi All,
    We have a Nexus N5K-C5596UP with redundant power supply. 2 x N55-PAC-1100W.
Last week 1 of those PS broke down. When this happened the chassis reloaded. I wouldn't expect this to happen.
Does anyone have an idea of why this happened?
    Our NX-OS version is n5000-uk9.5.2.1.N1.1a.
    Thanks,

Hi, I have the same problem as you.

  • Nexus 1010 boot failed

    Hi all,
I tried to boot nexus 1010, but only cimc can login. The serial console did not show any information, and still no response. So I tried to connect keyboard and monitor, both are no response. In addition, the nic port is down too.
Have any idea? Or who to troubleshooting it?

    Hello Padma,
Has this server worked before ?
    -> Yes.
Are you able to access the N1010 host CLI interface by doing SSH to CIMC IP address ?
    -> Yes.
ssh admin@ "connect host" did not show any response, and console can not return to CIMC.
